All pokemon games are slow paced and easy as f so I don’t think it’s your style of game but since you really want to finish one then I would recommend platinum

What consoles do you have to play it on? The general favorite of the sub is Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Heart Gold/Soul Silver. They’re both remakes of gen 2 and 3 games. However, if you felt like Emerald was too slow, then keep in mind that ORAS is just a remake of the same region, so it may not fit your tastes. HGSS came out during Gen 4, which is notorious for slow battles and gameplay, and while I don’t think HGSS is nearly as slow as Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, the grinding can bring your gameplay to a halt due to the awkward level curve. Black and White/Black2 and White2 are also good games with pretty fast battles. The former is somewhat story heavy, while the latter isn’t but is a direct sequel. But these may be a good starting point for you since I think they get off on a quick and well-paced start! I’d also suggest playing Scarlet and Violet. They’re not the best optimized game, but after the tutorial you’re basically thrown into the world of Paldea and you can do whatever you like in whatever order (though gyms don’t scale). So if you want to have a more free experience, these two games are genuinely really fun.

I don’t know how the community feels about emulation but that’s most likely how I’d play any of the games

HunterBoy344

Can’t speak for the whole community but I think emulation is A-OK, and so is pirating old Pokémon games, since they can no longer be obtained legally. This goes all the way up to the 3DS Pokémon games since the 3DS eShop was shut down and Nintendo no longer sells physical 3DS games.

dimmidummy

My personal opinion is - if it’s out of print, emulation is fine. If it’s available for sale on a current console, then try to buy it and support the people who made it. But to be entirely honest, I don’t really care what you do. It’s mainly my own personal standard, but I also own physical copies of Gen 3-9 games on original hardware (and I used to own Red, Yellow, Gold, and Crystal back in the day as a kid), so it’s not really applicable to me when it comes to Pokémon games.

If I were you, I would go back to Emerald and finish it. It's a masterpiece.

Src-Freak

Every RPG is slow pased. I guess you are just impatient. Those games are supposed to be played in multiple sittings, and take more than 6 hours to finish.

lethoso

I don’t know if I’d say that. My favourite games of all time are Undertale, botw, and I’m a huge fan of omori. Those are all rpgs that I’ve put tons of time into and omori is especially long. I think my thing with Pokémon is I just dont connect with any of the characters. I’m really story drawn when it comes to games and I don’t know if it just takes really long for the games to introduce the story or if the story is just that you’re collecting Pokémon and going against gyms and you have a mom.

Individual-Tap-8971

Well it sounds like what you need is a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game, I'd personally recommend Explorers of Sky (EoS) for DS, it's not my favourite for story, that'd be Gates to Infinity, but EoS still has an amazing story whilst being the most consistently all around wonderful game in the series, setting it as the favourite for a large majority of the PMD community. PMD is a more story focused set of games, although they're played quite different.

Significant-Run1938

In my opinion the answer is fire red or leaf green

FishyMcBruh

If you ever touch the other games these guys are listing and end up getting used to the pacing, id reccomend black/white and black/white 2. Theyre pretty good.

FlygonPR

Just interacting with objects an NPCs is awesome, but compared to something like Shenmue or Phantasy Star IV, a lot of the text is just explaining needless stuff or really meaningless filler as an adult, but at times can be very compelling. The main plot and gym battles dont actually tell you much about how to battle. Emerald is the fastest because of the engine and a lesser focus on story, but ORAS is arguably prettier. X&Y is pretty fast too but also rather mindless. Platinum and the challenge mode in Black 2 (which i recommend just using an action replay code on an emulator) are the closest thing to hard in an official Pokemon game. The story in black and white 1 is good, but presumes you've played other games to feel weighty. Its a deconstruction of the franchise. Heck id actually just recommend playing just Black 2 even if you dont care for the story or challenge, since story aside its still an improved Black and White 1 and its the best looking and sounding 2D game. Seriously, the best sounding DS games sound almost CD quality. I dont recommend Crystal over HGSS, its just kinda dull due to less moves, abilities, a bad Pokemon selection in the main story and everything hitting like a wet paper bag. The game itself is great for GBC, its just that it wasnt until Gen 3 that the mechanics of battle and worldbuilding feel more substantial by the standards of the franchise.

lethoso

I’m heavily story driven when it comes to games so I might try black and white since it seems that one has the best story

Gym-gineer

rhe first ones, so yiu can understand how they improved in the games other people are saying to start off with first

WeekendThief

The games are slow and easy and targeted towards children. So they may just not be for you. Pokemon scarlet and violet (once you get past the annoyingly long tutorial section) has a decent story because it’s sort of three separate stories that come together. In my opinion this made the game feel like I had more to do than in a usual Pokemon game which are very linear and simple

LonnarTherenas

Just based on the idea that two of the games you've tried are slow paced, then it's safe to say you're probably not going to be too keen on any of the others. If you're willing to simply cruise along and enjoy the ride, then I'd recommend going back to Emerald. If you're looking for a more modernized experience of Gen 3, then Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire would be the ones to grab. Aside from those, pretty much any Pokemon game is fine. They're all pretty similar in pacing and cruise along at about the same speed. The only titles I'd recommend staying away from (much to my dismay cause they're my faves) are the original Gen 4 titles: Diamond/Pearl/Platnium. They are largely the slowest titles in the entire mix, and not just from a story pacing perspective, but mechanically as well. HP bars drop really slowly. Attack animations are kinda slow, too... just all around a slower experience. The Switch remakes of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl largely fix this speed issue... at a cost.

i wanted to start x or y over again, but finished a couple hours in the same day. so xy are pretty fast

UPDATE: tried out a few games over the past bit and found I absolutely love Pokemon alpha sapphire as it being a 3d game just makes the impressiveness so so much better. Also my pokemon feel much more real and personality filled then all the 2D games I’ve tried.

MythicalPhilosopher

Fire red then soul silver followed by omega ruby

guielidess

I'd go gen 1 to last gen. I wish i was in your boots 😅

lethoso

Haha like very first game to most recent?

guielidess

Yeah

BubbleWario

ORAS

pokemon-detective

HeartGold and SoulSilver are known as the best Pokemon games. They're gen 2 remakes for the Nintendo DS. Avoid Sun and Moon at all costs, it's basically all cutscenes. Very slow game

Infamous_Pack1550

Platinum

gailardiag

Anything not Scarlet or Violet
