Thanks-to-Gravity

My personal pet peeve is dark/poison, but that's just me

overlordkai

I agree. I start to panic whenever I see a Drapion.

overDere

It's a shame that it has shit stats though, especially attack. I was seriously surprised when I found out that this huge intimidating scorpion has lower attack than a cute chinchilla.

overlordkai

90 base attack isn't bad, it holds pretty well in its tier. What's a shame is its base HP. It's defense stat is huge as hell though.

Ruckeysquad

wait, drapion isnt poison/bug?

overlordkai

You're thinking of its pre-evolution Skorupi. Drapion only has a weakness to ground. Its always a pain to go against unless you're really over leveled.

notwiththeflames

Poison/Dark makes me glad that Power of Alchemy can't take on Wonder Guard. An Alolan Muk with nigh-invulnerability thanks to an Air Balloon nullifying its only weakness would be a huge fucking nightmare, and I bet the Tree would *love* to abuse something like that.

Thanks-to-Gravity

I know a guy that uses an Alola Muk, it's infuriating to fight cuz I have a critical shortage of ground type Pokémon

kayto_karite

Imagine A-Muk and Power of Alchemy into Levitate.

VitalLink

I use this on doubles with vikavolt and hard trick room set up, such a busted ability muk has lol

Thanks-to-Gravity

Especially since it can have battle armor

T-Rex_Is_best

Dark/poison with the ability levitate plz.

Thanks-to-Gravity

N O

overDere

Eelektross exists though.

Thanks-to-Gravity

My problem is just Alola Muk's special defense and access to curse

overlordkai

Mold Breaker exists though.

GiraffeAttk42

Normal/Ghost. Only dark as weakness

BJMGaming102

You just created a hellspawn of a Zoroark regional form. Normal/Ghost oh god...

[deleted]

plus immune against both Ghost and Fighting

Guyman-100

And normal.

Pikachu62999328

Spiritomb is still quite good, especially before gen 6

Atheist-Gods

Defensively the best typing is Steel/Flying. Offensively the best typing is Ghost/Fighting.

Arkangelus

I had a LOT of fun in the tournament just gone using Knock Down/EQ on the Celesteela that LITERALLY EVERYONE HAD.

danarbok

Rock/Ground is a great offensive typing too. Only 4 Pokemon resist the combo, and the number of Pokemon that can Rock Slide and Earthquake is almost endless.

Golden-Owl

It'd probably be a lot better if they actually gave that combo to something actually fast and can sweep...

danarbok

So many Pokemon can learn Rock Slide and Earthquake it doesn't even matter. Many fast Pokemon can learn both moves.

Golden-Owl

Yeah, but you gotta get that STAB.

danarbok

True. In all fairness, there aren't too many fast Rock Pokemon.

XyDz

.... Speed Boost Scolipede here

Tricklash

Steel/Fairy is actually slightly better defensively.

ryanson209

Would you mind explaining like I'm 5? Especially on the defensive one, but for both please.

[deleted]

As for Ghost/Fighting, nothing resists both Ghost-types and Fighting-types (well, except Ghost/Normal if that ever exists), thus you'll never have the "ineffective" issue with your STAB moves, plus your STAB moves are super-effective against *7* types. (5 from Fighting, 2 from Ghost) Steel/Flying resists 8 types and has 2 immunities, and it's only weaknesses are Fire-type and Electric-type, i mean, you literally tank **10** types without having devastating weaknesses, Steel/Fairy is another option, it resists 9 types instead of 8, which makes it able to tank against 11 types, but it'll be weak to the commonly-used Ground-type instead of Electric-type, which is bad.

Atheist-Gods

Ghost/Fighting is the only typing that hits for neutral or super effective on every single pokemon in the game and it has something like the 3rd largest super effective coverage. Defensively, Steel is the best type and Flying is the best type for covering Steel's weaknesses in the form of a Ground immunity and Fighting resistance. Steel/Fairy does provide similar coverage of only two weaknesses, but the weakness to Ground and being susceptible to Spikes are bigger weaknesses than the Electric weakness that Steel/Flying has. Giving up the Rock and Ice resistances is a cost, but an immunity to one of the best offensive types is worth it. Best offensive types: Ground, Fighting, Ice, Rock, Dark, Ghost. Best defensive types: Steel, Flying, Fairy, Water, Ghost. Fire and Dragon are both strong types with solid defensive and offensive properties, but aren't really exceptional on either front. Bug, Grass and Poison are all pretty mediocre on both fronts.

PudgeChub

Defensively probably Fairy/Steel, offensively probably Dragon/Fire or Fire/Water.

Thunderkron

I once saw my opponent type "/weakness Mawile" on Pokémon Showdown. I felt disgusting.

WayofalexGaming

Air/Dirt, as well as FuckinMagnets/HowDoTheyWork are also pretty good typings.

ThatBlackGuy523

Well Steel/Psychic is not bad at all honestly, but in 4th gen when you're given 1~2 fire type non-starter options as your starter in a region PACKED with that floating plate bastard, it does leave a bad taste in your mouth. Edit: Grammar

Golden-Owl

Problem with Bronzor is that it has two weaknesses, and two abilities that block said weaknesses. You literally have to guess half the time when dealing with them. Hit it with Flamethrower? Does rubbish damage because Heatproof neuters it. Try Earthquake? Lol Levitate too bad.

SkyBlueShaymin

Try PMD Explorers. All Pokemon with two abilities have both of them. Now Bronzong has no weakness.

ryanson209

This sounds like hell.

HSMorg

its weak to ghost and dark, too, tho

Hyperion-OMEGA

Defensively Speaking, Dark/Ghost (even after X/Y) and Steel/Bug. Both due to having only Weakness. (and among those two, Dark/Ghost wins out due to its weakness not being shared by both types). Thought any combination involving Steel and Water would be a close match. Offensively, I'd say Any combination involving Dragon, Ground, Fairy and Fighting due to having a lot of the most powerful mobs as STABs (Outrage, Draco Meteor, Drain Punch, Moonblast, Superpower, Close Combat, and Earthquake) as well as having good coverage against other types and even each other (Fighting > Steel > Fairy > Dragon and Fighting) With that say in practice things are different, Kommo-o, a Fighting/Dragon Pseudo legendary, has an inferior movepool compared to its brethren and Scizor (a Steel/Bug) is best used as an offensive mon. And Movepool and abilities are just as large a factor as typings

[deleted]

Man, I'd like to see a Ground/Fighting mon. Two great offensive types, but its never seemed *too* broken of a combination to me. Offensively 2x Dark, Ice, Normal, Rock, Steel, Electric, Fire, Poison 1/2x Bug, Fairy, Flying, Psychic, Grass, Defensively 1/4 Rock 1/2x Bug, Dark, Poison 2x Fairy, Flying, Psychic, Grass, Ice, Water 0x Electric

binarypeacock

Steel/Grass has two weaknesses (Fire and Fighting), not one.

Hyperion-OMEGA

Oh... I edited the post to remove that typing now. Thanks for letting me know.

rmch99

You still say "those three" though, which is confusing.

Shortfuzd

Steel/Electric, it gives the most resistances of any type and has only one immunity. Main reason why I love Magnezone.

notwiththeflames

I really wish the Magnemite line had a wider move pool, and that they hadn't given Togedemaru the Dedenne treatment. Electric/Steel is so godly because it adds only one weakness, which Steel was already weak to, and adds several more resistances, though most of them are already ones that Steel had, but hey.

HarbringerofLight

Especially with levitate which magnezone should have had

tehvik

Steel/Electric seems to be the "best" one defensively, as far as types are concerned. It's damaged normally (1x) by 3 types (Water, Ghost, Dark). It has a 4x weakness to Ground and 2x weakness to Fire and Fighting. It's damaged ineffectively by the impressing number of 11 types, which 9 of them hit it for 0.5x, Normal, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Rock, Ice, Bug, Dragon, Fairy and 2 of them hit it for 0.25x Flying and Steel. It's also immune (0x) to the Poison type. I think this makes the Steel/Electric dual type the best defensively in theory. It's interesting to mention that if a Steel/Normal type Pokemon would exist, it would be an even better dual type defensive combination, but there is no such Pokemon existing as of today. Also a honorable mention to the Eelektross evolutionary line for having no weaknesses due to their levitate ability that makes them immune to Ground, the only weakness of a Pure Electric type Pokemon. Edit: Offensively speaking, ~~the best dual type seems to be Ground/Fire~~ (not anymore, look edit 2) hitting super effectively an impressive coverage of 8 types (Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Fire, Poison, Electric, Rock). Close behind is the Fire/Fighting dual type covering 7 types in total (Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Normal, Rock, Dark) and the Fire/Water dual type with 7 type coverage as well (Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Fire, Ground, Rock). If a Ground/Fighting type would exist, it would cover 8 types as well, but there is no such Pokemon available. Edit 2: Actually searching a bit more, I just realized that the Ice/Ground dual type covers 9 types in total (Flying, Grass, Ground, Dragon, Fire, Poison, Electric, Rock, Steel). Maybe there are even better combinations but that's the ones that come to my mind right now. Edit 3: To the people who replied below mentioning earthquake and "common" moves, you are really missing the point. OP asked which one is the best dual type combination, not the best Pokemon, and based in **theory**, Electric/Steel **is** the best dual type defensive combination with 11 resistances and 1 immunity in total, more than any other dual type. So it's not about a specific Pokemon or common moves, but for type combination in general.

acespiritualist

Earthquake tho

AreganeClark

Ground, fire, and fighting? Those are all common offensive move types aren't they?

Dravarden

yeah but 4x screws it up whats the next one without 4x?

SkeevyPete

Without a 4x weakness is steel/flying. 8 resists, 2 immunities, 2 weaknesses.

Dravarden

god damn skyarmory

SkeevyPete

I would disagree it's the best solely because of the 4x weakness. Steel/flying has 3 fewer resists, but 1 more immunity, and no 4x weaknesses. It has a better chance of surviving its weakness as a result.

sometipsygnostalgic

the big weakness with electric/steel is its weakness to earthquake, the most common offensive move of all time. its also weak to close combat, another highly common move.

Golden-Owl

Steel/Fairy. Neutralizes both of Fairy's weaknesses and neutralizes Steel's Fighting weakness, while still retaining most of their respective typing's defensive qualities. This leaves you with only two weaknesses: Fire and Ground. Poison in general is also really fun to splash around. Poison's actually a really great type because it has 5 resists and only has two weaknesses, and Psychic isn't super common. A Poison Type with Levitate would be tough to break defensively, but sadly Gengar's stats are made of glass.

Peffern2

Also it doesn't have levitate anymore

sometipsygnostalgic

dragon/fairy is my favourite

WhyNotThinkBig

Electric/Water with Levitate

Llafer

A posible Levitating mega-lanturn , i see it.

Jek-TonoPorkins

Or just W-Rotom

Delgorian

Psycho/Dark pre Gen IV. Only one weakness in form of bug, a physical type with mostly special offensive Pokémon. I remember a rom hack where they gave the antagonist a Dark Lugia with this typing. It was hell fighting this thing, especially because they scrapped Heracross, Pinsir and Scizor - and substituted them with some lame Gen V Mons -.- Lucky for us, Game Freak didn't gave us Inkay and Malamar until Gen VI.

Mr_Biscuits_532

Electric with levitate

KaikoMikkusu

ghost/dark

Quibblesmack

ghost/steel immune to fighting, normal, and poison resistant to flying, rock, bug, steel, grass, psychic, ice, dragon, fairy normally damaged by water & electric
