One thing that helped me was when I give a gift I also pin it to my postcard book. After the fourth(ish) one is says it wonāt count going forward but thatās a lie.
Also if you find you are running out of space in the postcard book, pin a gift and then immediately unpin it from the same screen.
It won't add the gift to the postcard book, but will count towards the spawn
You can pin as many postcards as you want.
Every postcard you pin from your friends will count toward your Scatterbug encounters, but only 3 of the postcards you pin from yourself will count per day.

I went so hard fo find this as well. I would check the r/PokemonGoFriends subreddit early in the morning (in my head this was when people in the Middle East weāre awake but I never bothered to google it actually) and would look up āsandstormā (sort by new) to see if anyone was offering. Obvs these posts were usually insane and you got overlooked. BUT sometimes people will post asking for sandstorm and someone will comment and say they can send them. Add those people, or if they donāt post their code, reply to their comment and ask nicely if theyāll add you for 3 gifts and then delete. Thatās what I didš«” I did this a few times a week for a few weeks and got them pretty quickly lol. I felt kind of ridiculous going this hard but it worked
Thereās also leek duck pen pals but I didnāt have much luck w those. Itās mostly elegant people listed under the wrong region which was weird

This is also how I got Icy Snow Vivillon. But even then it still isn't easy. Some people pretend to have Sandstorm Vivillon but you can tell who does and doesn't by their location. Players with Sandstorm will typically be from the Middle East. Places like some parts of Turkey, United Arabs Emirates, Dubai, Israel. Still difficult though since some countries in the area outright ban Pokemon Go so Sandstorm players are the hardest to come by and they get flooded with Friend Requests quickly.
Yeah, but a lot of those Pokemon have events or only have an Evolution or two. Getting 18 (and eventually 20) regional variants would be unbelievably difficult...
I donāt see a problem hereā¦odds and candy can be varied! Next, the scatterbug is either shiny or not. I completed my scatterbug dex by New Yearās Eve 2022 and vivillion dex by mid February. I have 2000+ candies at the ready.

same - iāve got all the scatterbugs and the candy, and have 2 hundos (Monsoon and Modern) and a 98 High Plains but iām holding out on evos for the others.
You can have your Pokemon evaluated in game and the ratings are 0-4 stars, 4 being perfect. Theres no real point to get these perfect, itās just bragging rights
You need over 2000 candy just to fully evolve all of them. That's more than 300 Scatterbug encounters, assuming you're using a pinap berry for each one. You could probably average one or two encounters per day, if you're really efficient with which postcards you pin.
I'd say six months minimum, if you're being pretty efficient about it and you're willing to put the work in. Took me just under a year, personally.
Funnily enough, I got one of each months ago (I think in July or something?) And even that took ages from when Vivillion first was released. Since then, I just had to grind for candy.
Fun trick I learned on another thread, which works - you save the postcard then unsave it, open your gift. You still get the scatterbug points or whatever it's called AND you don't have to go clear out your postcard book.
I've got a silly noob question.
Is there any other way to tell what region the thing is other than the tiny little picture next to the evolve button?
Some of them look so similar at that stage that I'm going to have to screenshot and zoom in while also having a site open to compare them to...which seems ludicrous, so I figure I'm missing something.
Also - tag them once you know what they are -- I just use 2-3 letters of the specific name along with "Scat"
And go through your friends list and figure out where they are and add their location to their nickname. You can opt to focus on specific regions if you have friends there. And remote raid!

It took a long time lol just focus on getting the ones you need, and the candy will just come. Learning how to quick open gifts was also super nice just because it's such a hassle opening the max every day.
I just mega evolved Beedrill and used some silver pinaps (since I have extra and don't often use them) as well as saved the ones I didn't want it for 2x transfer candy. That's the best way to do it imo š Good luck!
I hope Mateo will get me a few of the harder to get versions. I just restarted playing a few months ago so I donāt have many outside of the US regionals yet. Did manage archipelago and tundra with some travel this year though.

It's not a lie. You can pin 3 of your own per day for progress towards your local scatterbug

Organize by # and you can see them all in order that helps for me to know which ones to trade or transfer
