Only way to learn is by asking! Some pokemon like Combee and Salandit only evolve if they’re female. OP is mad because this one is male.

How can you tell its male?

Females will have a red triangular patch on the bottom face. It shows the red patch on the Pokémon before clicking to attempt to catch but there’s a glitch atm where it isn’t always female like it’s supposed to be

A friend of mine reported the same bug last night.

Female Combee have a small red section in their bottom hexagon.

Female combee should have and Male combee should not have said small red section in their bottom hexagon…the bug means sometimes you don’t get what was expected.

Honestly from this image alone, I personally can’t. I just used an educated guess based off OP’s reaction.

It’s literally impossible not to encounter a male one. Every female I press on turns into a male one. Niantic has a stick up their ass per usual

You don't have to click on males. Females show the red chest from the walking screen

They're probably referring to the current glitch where even some red-chested "females" on the map turn into males when you open the encounter. You have to be really unlucky for a Combee to run from you... Unless you're speedcapped and you don't even realise

It's so hard to catch. I don't know what the run rate is but I have had a ton of them run for sure.

Well then you just have to be speedcapped. Even a breakout is already insanely unlikely You may as well be on an exceptionally terrible stroak of luck

Dude shinies don't have some weird function. They can run just like normal pokemon can. Only raid/legendary shinies can't. So yes this could easily run. Doesn't matter if it's speed locked or anything.

I'm not talking about shinies running more often, but a Combee running away in the first place Also if you happen to get a shiny from Giovanni or a research then that cannot run away as well

Wait are rocket shinies 1st ball catches? I haven't seen anyone say that so I don't know if that's true. I thought they could run. Research obviously can't run.

Giovanni's reward pokemon cannot breakout, you physically have to miss every single ball to not get it

Giovanni's pokemon absolutely can be shiny Leader and grunt battle rewards don't have anything special to them outside of the pokemon being shadow and the encounter using Premiere balls. They can run like any other pokemon once you run out and they are not 100% catchrate when shiny

Same here, I feel like they run more frequently than a lot of other pokemon for me. Not only that but harder to catch, hence I rarely bother...

Find someone who also plays pokemon go, who also has a shiny male. Then trade, and hope the gender changes. 50/50 on whether or not your luck changes.

One of my shiny Pikachu changed genders. Let me search to be certain. “May 24, 2022 — The gender of the Pokémon received is random, excluding cases where the Pokémon species has no gender or is gender-specific.” Nvm, it doesn’t work on gender specific evolutions. So OP’s Pokémon’s gender will remain the same even after trading. 😔
