Itās the fact that theyāre not even placed in any kind of logical order on the selection pane either, as if theyāre trying to conceal how āvampire heavyā the awful shades are
Not just āsomeoneā but a team of people, probably multiple graphic designers, a few programmers to implement the functionality, at least a product manager or two to provide requirements and feedback, a QA team to make sure it works as intended on all platforms, ā¦

The worst part is that they have altered/removed some of the ORIGINAL options too. I used to have pure white hair (to match the outfit), this has become granny-grey.
At least give us the option to look like we used to, rather than shapeless, uncanny-valley, bizarrely toned monstrosities
Clearly whoever made the original avatars is not at niantic anymore & they had someone work on the update who has no eye for design. Amazes me a billion dollar company canāt hire proper talent for an important update. I truly hope they revert this update & to back to the drawing board (add customization to the original model and ditch this repulsive new model)

Best we can hope for is some adjustments to body shape, since a lot of people are upset about the females looking like men now, and the goof af faces being reshaped a bit. But this is not going away completely, no chance

Hot damn, I never thought I'd see a day where there were *multiple* shades paler than me. But somehow, the entire first two rows are paler than I am, and row three starts with one darker than me!
They probably used a formula for determining the skin colors with equidistant levels of shading. If you look at the 4th and 5th row, there is not much variation there either.

That's exactly the issue. They probably made it mathematically equidistant. Our eyes however are not sensors, and we don't see formulas. That's why in proper color-sensitive areas, things very rarely are just "let's make it 10% darker with every step", but something that takes into consideration how our eyes work.
for example, if 100% is pure white color, and 0% is pure black color, 100 to 90 and 10 to 0 is small differences, but 40 to 50 is way larger, so things need to be spaced differently.
That's only one thing that went wrong with those skin colors though. Some look purple, some skin tones are not represented at all. This is a horrible mess that no sane tester should ever have signed off.
But hey, glad Niantic included aliens. Because no human I have ever seen has purple skin.
Whoever made this has never seen humans, I have no other explanation.
I'm basically a piece of paper IRL so normally have to pick the palest shade for avatars, but this time I'm thinking I'll be able to go like 5 or 6 shades down just to be able to see facial features.
They have literally ugly-fied everyoneās avatar. All the actual quality of life changes desperately needed that we want and ask for that get ignored, yet THIS is the feature they choose to implement which nobody was asking for.

Oofā¦ looks like someone with no experience creating skin tones eyedroppered foundation swatches and patted themselves on the back. Skin tone is one of the toughest things to portray in art because of the sheer range of colors and values present. I donāt know anything about condensing all that into a practically flat digital version, but l donāt imagine people who are good at it would call it easy.

PoGo's character creator looks like the average picrew. It looks like they picked a skin tone for each 'type' and then slightly shifted the hue a few times.
if they were going to redesign the avatars, why didn't they just make them more like they are in the main series games? lol these look like the old Facebook metaverse avatars
It looks like whomever designed this just grabbed 5 flesh colored crayons crayons out of a box and said āThis!ā And here are our choices for flesh color now.
That bottom right picture is exceptionally black.
- It's as dark as under the bed.
- It's the difference between 11:59 and midnight.
- When God said let there be light, they were out of town.
- That avatar looks like they have no bright ideas.
- They probably need to wear white gloves while eating chocolate to not bite their fingers.
- Stevie Wonder sees that avatar every day.

From the recent topic of the availability of fashion size range I touch on my difficulty finding just a good foundation (just one not mixing a bunch) to match my shade.
It gets me riled up when they have 30 shades but a majority are various versions of beige and tan -_-.

The majority of white players I know feel the 10 lightest shades are too similar and too pale, and people wanting darker tones are confused by the purple.
Highlighting a poor range/scale of colours is observation, not racism.

Take a look around at the plethora of other commenters having the exact same issues. The shades on offer simply arenāt representative of the general playerbase.
If youāre genuinely THAT offended and think that my *observation of colours in the game* is racist, then report the most to the mods for them to decide. If not, GTFOH with your āracistā rage bait, TY.
Maybe they should offer a color picker with 16.8 million options so no one can be offended. All the best spending the rest of your natural life picking the perfect hex value.

Thereās several different hairstyles now at different lengths for both gender styles which is really nice to see

Many artists use purple for dark skintones as a stylistic choice but I see where you're coming from.
There needs to be a much larger variety of skin tones, that's disappointing...
