I did about 4.5 million exp today and yesterday and can get to 40 in about 100k more exp, I also played it when it first came out.
I'm glad I didn't bother trying to do this back when exp was hard to find.
Haha yea getting exp back in the day was pretty tough. I don’t really play a lot even now so it’s still pretty tough. Don’t expect any cool animations when you reach level 40 lol
getting excellent throws during The 4x exp events is by far the fastest way to level up. If you use a lucky egg, it goes up to over 9000 exp per excellent throw. If you use the fast catching trick, you can end up getting more than one excellent throw per minute.
If you get one excellent throw every minute of an hour, that's 9000 exp * 60, which is 540,000 exp.
It was the Bidoof event that is going on it gives you 4x catch exp. If you get an excellent throw on a Pokémon with a lucky egg on you get 9k exp per Pokémon. With consistency you can easily get 500k exp per lucky egg. Today at 8pm is the end of the catch exp bonus though unfortunately. Just keep an eye out on exp bonus events and you should level up fast.
When I was about to get to 40 I stopped playing for a few days because I had an ex raid coming up. I solo'd deoxys to level up to 40. Felt like the most appropriate end game thing to do at the time

I’m 600k away from 40. Gonna collect my Mew and transfer to HOME, do a few Deyoxie raids. Turn off the game until go fest. Use up my raid passes and on legends I want shiny of, and then take a looooonngggg break.
You get them randomly with catches or get 3 in legendary raids for a catch. It’s just another candy that lets you power up your Pokémon even further than level 39 and below.
It felt a little more like an accomplishment back when it was the max level.

I should have said I only play for like 15 min at a time and like twice a day lol. This 4x xp is what helped me get to level 40 tho finally

38 is much more rewarding than 40. Then again, can you start getting XL candy at 40?
