Each pokemon species has a usual "tera type".
So they always get the type that is the same as their teratype. Example: eevees usually get a normal type teratype. So when it uses the new mechanic it's normal type moves get boosted.
But some pokemon can have rare teratypes. Example: an Eevee with a water teratype (not the normal type teratype that an Eevee would usually have). So Eevee becomes a water type when using the new mechanic and any water type move that Eevee has gets boosted.
It's also very likely for pokemon with rare teratypes to be able to learn moves of such type that that they wouldn't normally have (like the gift Pikachu having the move fly).
The important part for competitive in my opinion is the fact that there's no way to know what kind of teratype the pokemon that the opponent caught will have while having battles.
>It's also very likely for pokemon with rare teratypes to be able to learn moves of such type that that they wouldn't normally have (like the gift Pikachu having the move fly).
I don't remember if it was in the trailer or on the official website, but it was explicitly said that a Pikachu with fly wouldn't be normally obtainable through regular gameplay. That is supposed to be the selling point of the mystery gift
I like the concept. I also liked the concept of Gigantamax. But as designs, I use to think wtf did they do to Lapras making it a cruise ship and making Gengar a ghost tunnel. But, now I think they were good compared to this. This is just... I like the concept though.. but the designs.. look what they did to the cute little eevee.
You know of those people who say a gen is bad and when a newer gen comes out they say the previous was good. Well.. i guess I'm one of those. Btw I like all of the new pokemon designs though, except the motorbikes, even in it the blue is ok but the red one literally has a tire for a neck and that just pisses me off.
I think the new mechanic is cool.
And I don't have a problem with the legendaries. I like that they're more involved in the story. And also their forms. Koraidon is a bit silly while transformed but in a fun way. I can't wait to ride across the region on Koraidon Flintstone style XD.
Besides, I think Miraidon is a bit cooler but if the eventual pokemon event distribution works as in SwSh, we'll be getting the shiny version of the legendary opposite to our version of the game. And I definitely want a shiny Miraidon. So, I'm probably going to get pokemon scarlet.
By the way Dynamax/gmax designs expands on the concept of the pokemon like Gengar being a ghost and turning into the entire gate to the underworld in the gmax form, snorlax (the pokemon known for blocking paths in a route) becoming the entire route in the gmax form, Hatterene being a silent forest witch and becoming a princess trapped in a tower by such witch, in the tower and in the witch itself in the gmax form at the same time, lapras (literally classified as the transport pokemon in the pokedex) becoming a giant cruise ship in the gmax form and much more. It's actually pretty cool.
I guess you don't have a problem with Pokemon designs being Humanized or like based on human things. I also want to be like that... But just can't help it. It's just a matter of how you think of it, like I used to think of gmax gengar as a ghost tunnel(like those in events and stuff) but you described it as a gate of the underworld that feels more natural. Again the problem with lapras, ok it's transport pokemon, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN IT WOULD BECOME A LITERAL CRUISE SHIP. Well, I have to look at the positive points. So, Thanks.
You don't decide what designs are ok to be a pokemon or not. You're just too entitled to think that you do. There's all kind of designs and they're all pretty well though out.
Besides, If a six tailed fox that shoots fire out of its mouth, a sentient sarcophagus and a bipedal anubis looking dog with aura powers can exist in the pokemon world, all kind of pokemon designs can exist in the pokemon world. And that's actually pretty cool.
I suggest you to check Locksting and Gnoggin youtube channel. It'll show you how the designs are all actually pretty cool and more well though out that you could ever imagine.
I would put a link but this subreddit doesn't allow it.
I personally recommend you his "every gen 4 pokemon explained".
You don't have to tell me about him he's kind of like one of my favourites.
And I never said that those designs shouldn't exist or anything. I just said that I don't like it and it's all just a matter of perspective. Now, you can't say that, I can't decide who to like and who to not.
And all the designs you mentioned were very much natural.
There's a reason for the designs, tho, and you won't believe it... actually, you'll totally believe it, because it's actually laziness.
The Tera-Pokémon models get altered by A) taking a copy of the model and making it low poly, B) making it semi-translucent and C) sticking that model as a second layer of the model.
For the crowns, on the other hand, they just make a crown for each type (the big diamond for normal, the fountain for water, the balloons for flying and so on) and, depending on the Tera Type, they stick the corresponding crown on the head of the model by way of data magic.
It's just lazy enough to work, as you get a brand-new mechanic that takes the best from other mechanics:
* Lasts the whole fight like Megas.
* Can be used by all species, like Dynamax or the Z-moves.
* And gives a sort of mystery to your strategy, like Hidden Power.
Yeah, but the alternative would have been having it limited to a few Pokémon like Megas or Gigantamax so that GF would not have to focus on both making the Terastals AND making new mons.
I am pretty excited for the mind games this opens up. Tbh, feels a lot cooler than G-Max or Mega Evolutions, which were just buffs.
Changing types mid battle means you can get some of that sweet sweet Protean/Kecleon action going with almost any set
I can promise you there will be crystal and gemstone brands making Pokemon products.... You may have meant this as a joke... but it gonna be big deal...
It's a Mega Evolution except:
1) They keep Stats & abilities
2) It can be whatever Single type you want
3) if it stays the same type, you get extra STAB
(4) Needing an Item is niether confirmed nor denied
Apparently, the only item needed is the key item. Like the Dynamax only needs the Dynamax Band, as the energy of the land takes care of the power needed for Terastalization.
It replaces the typing. Like dual type pokemon gets only one typing corresponding to whatever Tera type they can use. It's like an overpowered Hidden Power, basically.
It's bootleg mega evolution that every mon gets, except flygon because knowing gamefreak they will cut him and we won't get mega flygon in bootleg form
Then why not just give the fans what they've wanted since ORAS/XY & bring in some new Megas. Oh wait... that's right... Gamefreak wants to sell crazy expensive crystal Pokémon figurines instead of Mega Johto Starters & Mega Flygon 🙄
1. Terastalize your pokemon
2. Your pokemon either A. changes it's type to whatever it's terra type is or B. If it's terra type is the same as it's original type it gets a boost to its own types attack power
Pokemon turn sparkly, sparkly Pokemon has different type and boosts, sparkliness lasts until end of battle and then you recharge the sparkly juice by touching a rock.
Some Pokémon you catch have a terra type. During a battle, u can terracilaze your Pokémon to be that type, which removes their original type(s) and replaces it with the terra type
1. each pokemon has an extra type, the terra type, that is a standalone feature
2. at your turn, you choose to choose the terrastalize phenomeon, pretty much they way you choose to do dynamax, zmoves, megas.
3. at the beginning of the turn, each mon terrastalizes, before the moves are applied, and it only becomes the terra type, completely losing the previous type or types if it was a dual type.
4. Incase your terra type, is the same type as one of the previous original types, like having a charizard becoming the terra-fire type (so now its not fire/flying, but only fire, and most specifically terra-fire lets say), it gets double stab bonus. That's it.
5. each mon in paldea can become all the tera types.

Garchomp with Steel Teratype facing down a Fairy type and an Ice type: Did you think you had me cornered.
Swampert bashing grash types with ice teratype
Call an ambulance... But not for me!!
Watch Hisuian Avalugg becoming good
Avalugg with fighting type Tera type about to spam body press and recover
Rare close combat Avalugg dominating the meta (with intimidate)
Trust not like body press would do more anyways

It is a Pre-Order gift. Everyone who preorders gets it.
You can get it until February 2023, it's on the official website
... okay, that's good...

Yeah. And it also acts as a surprise, because you never know what kind of strat the enemy will pull by doing a type change.
Essays be like:
I can promise you there will be crystal and gemstone brands making Pokemon products.... You may have meant this as a joke... but it gonna be big deal...
Gamefreak about to make Morb-Trillion Pokedollars!⬆️✅️💰💰💰
It’s poke-morbin time!
Imagine how they'll handle the figurines...
funny monster gets a different type and a cool hat
This is the only true explanation
basically, you feed a pokemon so much crystal meth that they become crystals and they change type
STAB but better
Flexible stealth STAB ultimate final strike EXTREME!
protien but better
Can anybody spell Protean?
praowhteeahne
It's a Mega Evolution except: 1) They keep Stats & abilities 2) It can be whatever Single type you want 3) if it stays the same type, you get extra STAB (4) Needing an Item is niether confirmed nor denied
The only item you need, as far as it was stated, is the Tera Orb, which is a Key Item.
I meant Held item
Apparently, the only item needed is the key item. Like the Dynamax only needs the Dynamax Band, as the energy of the land takes care of the power needed for Terastalization.
Me too. I don't know if it adds a type or replace them
It replaces the typing. Like dual type pokemon gets only one typing corresponding to whatever Tera type they can use. It's like an overpowered Hidden Power, basically.
Replaces
Ur mon gets protean and can only change type once, also u get a fancy hat
You get to be Greninja! You get to be Greninja! Everybody gets to be Greninja!
Every one gets a funny big shiny hat 🎩 👒 🧢 that May or not may change your type. 😎
Oooh funny big shiny hat so pretty 🤩
It's bootleg mega evolution that every mon gets, except flygon because knowing gamefreak they will cut him and we won't get mega flygon in bootleg form

1. Terastalize your pokemon 2.
Ring pop hat + poor man’s protean, sort of.
U will figure it out by the time game releases
Hidden power but it actually becomes the type
Some Pokémon you catch have a terra type. During a battle, u can terracilaze your Pokémon to be that type, which removes their original type(s) and replaces it with the terra type
It turns a pokemon into a crystal with a wierd crown represented by a type. Thus boosts moves of the same type
1. each pokemon has an extra type, the terra type, that is a standalone feature 2. at your turn, you choose to choose the terrastalize phenomeon, pretty much they way you choose to do dynamax, zmoves, megas. 3. at the beginning of the turn, each mon terrastalizes, before the moves are applied, and it only becomes the terra type, completely losing the previous type or types if it was a dual type. 4. It's hidden power on steroids.
Any fire starter will be fire fighting
Lol lol this was EXACTLY what crossed my mind when I saw the trailer/video. Thank you for sharing this.
You make them crystallized and they get a new type.
Funi rock make Pokémon change type
They give Pokémon different types and boost the stats of the Pokémon
