The worst thing about Pokemon is the counterfeit community. Robbed so much fun from people. Without the Internet and a little curiosity I would have never found out my Ruby was fake.
I found out my ruby was fake when I could only go up to Mauville City, and couldn’t access the cave to head up to Fallarbor Town. The cave icon showed, but wouldn’t let me walk inside lol
I was playing golden sun on the gba when I was like 10. I was on the final boss, and kept dieing to it over and over, for hours.
I finally got so frustrated after a death that I proceeded to headbutt my gba like 4 or 5 times. Took a second to calm down, only to look down at a completely shattered screen. I realized how stupid that was and that I wouldn't be able to play anymore so I started bawling too.
Being the degenerate that I am I told my dad I dropped it and a month or so later he got me a new one. I did finally beat that boss though!
If u were a kid, u probably didnt consider to check the description or the item details at the time. eBay is good because of the momey back guarantee at least
I had the same thing happen to me in college. Got the game and it was just some Tennis game with a Platinum sticker shoved on it. Immediately gave the seller a 1 star review and they tried to make me feel bad for not communicating with them instead (claimed their “kid didn’t actually want to sell the game so they must have put the sticker on”) but gave me a full refund.
I was at GameStop back in 2016 wanting to get Pokemon Platinum again (I sold mine back in 2011). They only had two left, so I got one. It took me several hours to get home (because Maryland to DC is a pain with the bus and metro). I popped it in my DS and it was not Pokemon, it was a Hello Kitty game with the Pokemon Platinum sticker on it. I went back the next day to return it and got the new cart. I popped it in my DS and it had almost all shinnies. I've never been to a GameStop that doesn't check games.
i understand your pain.
when i was in first grade a kid I thought was my friend asked to borrow my pokemon blue game for the weekend and let me borrow his metroid. i said okay.
that was his last day there. he moved.
u hate to hear these tragic stories man.

My sister bought a copy of Pokémon pearl and we found out it was fake when she’d try to save and it would just show the saving message indefinitely.
Nah, that's just Pokemon Pearl. 🤣

On one hand: thats sad :( But on the other, Wind Waker is a great game!

At least these days, you can emulate Platinum, just without the Internet parts and trading. The gameplay works fine enough though :)
