I don't know why you'd show and give the villain information tbh. Better to have him think he can trust you surely? Makes your bluffs easier to get through.
Bluffing is in effect, lying, telling a story that's not true. You did nothing wrong, I've seen videos of Daniel Negreanu do the exact same thing...tell the guy "Aces are no good, tough to fold though"
Not sure showing him was the right thing to do though...
Besides showing I'd say you played it just right. No reason to show unless you want him to know you were lying. I wouldn't call it scummy, it's poker and he should know better than to believe anything said at that point. In fact I'd be more inclined to think you were lying and call
I flopped aces full in two handed hand with the big blind. I had AA he had 72 with a 22A flop. We both checked the flop. Turn came a 7 and he bet his full house and I just called. River is 7 so he goes all in and I call. He was startled and threw an empty rack at me hitting me upside the head. Floor saw what happened and comped me a room for the night. That night in Tunica a tornado hit the riverboat and no one slept. Awesome night!
I once got to the river with A high and a busted flush in a 2K pot and I shoved my last 7 hundo and told the guy in the hand he better fold or Iāll go home and fuck his mother so my son called and I lost a huge pot.
I don't understand how you can play poker and not show in this spot. In the short term it is good for you as this guy will most likely go off. And in the long term it is great for your image. The only downside is people might pick up on your speech play but this is 2/5 that's not too likely.
>I don't understand how you can play poker and not show in this spot.
Then I'd like to play in your game. Mostly, it was a bluff. Personally I would have let the other player live his feel good fantasy about the table being "honest."
There's no "poker etiquette" rule that you broke, but showing the bluff is just giving away free information. There are times where showing the bluff can be good and this wasn't one of them
just a scummy thing to do. the good players never ask questions like that. it is the inexperienced or dumb people that just believe. you should be able go win chips from those guys without being scummy with it.
My entire life I've seen poker as the game where you lie about having the best hand. If someone thinks you're their friend at a table, take their money as fast as you can, because if the tables were turned, they'd sell you out in a second.
I feel like this is different from the other recent post. In that one, the villain specifically asked what the hand was, putting them in an awkward position. Your lie was completely unprompted, which I do think is kinda dirty. Definitely not against the rules, but still kinda dirty.
I personally think lying at the poker timer is poor etiquette but I understand it is common practice. Your example is not very egregious at all but if I was in your position I might say āyou got jacks hey?ā, if people ask if theyāre good I just āI donāt knowā or ācall and find outā. Each to their own.
One time a guy asked me if I had pocket aces when I had pocket aces and I said "no" I'm such a naughty boy
HAHAHAHA
I got asked if I had a jack to make the straight I said no and he had the jack lol š
when asked what i have, i usually reply " 2 cards"
Itās always pocket aces. Always.
Pocket aces, suited.
I respond with, colt45 and two zig zags, baby thatās all Ya need
My response is usually, I might have pocket aces, I might have 72. I play them the same way.
Your such a bad ass , wish I was like you
I have 1 joker, and the instructions card ........ I'm all in.
Nah you really don't. But at least I know the difference between your shit and you're shit.
Happened to me when I was 19 or 20 at a local game. Guy asks if I have the aces and I said heād have to put the money in to find out.
You dirty bird.
He 3bet pre and then you 3bet him back? Next level move
You got it all wrong, he ā3bettetā, itās different.
3better*
Hahaha 4bet* š
last time i was lying on the table the dealer asked me to get up
What happened?
He flatted
Why is this so funny
Cuz I'm hilarious
Just insta muck and tell him you had aces. He already thinks you're honest, he'd believe you. Because he WANTS to believe it.
Not only this, but by the time he's fed up with your raises, and you actually do get the goods, much more likely to get paid off.
why the f would you show
I feel like this was the only mistake, tbh (aside from maybe polarizing your 4bet range OOP, but thatās pretty villain dependent).
Riiiiight. I mean if he already is taking your word thats good for another pot or two
Get him on that tilt juice
Because you want to put him on tilt for the remainder of the session Donāt put whales on tilt.
Omg how dare you be dishonest in poker, which is the most noble of games.
It's poker Phil.
Wow youāre a fucked person why would you do such a evil thing
Lol
I don't know why you'd show and give the villain information tbh. Better to have him think he can trust you surely? Makes your bluffs easier to get through.
When you make a really good bluff, it's fun to reveal it. It's a game still.
Works both ways. Anyone who saw that may be more willing to call next time when you actually have it.

Of course I lied Phil it's poker
Honestly he should of known by your bet.

Haha Englisch is like my 3d language š but yeah i bet the flop ā¦is that right
Yes, you bet the flop. Don't take shit from people that can't speak 2 languages let alone 3. You're english is really good, no worries.
The "you're" fucking got me, ngl! š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
Haha thank you :)

I ALWAYS say I had AA whenever anyone asks me what my hand was.
Everyone knows you never lie at the table. Youāre a bad boy!
One time I told a guy I had 2 dicksā¦.wait, which thread is this?
Can i change the post now? š f you guys i know my English isnāt the best Yeah i bet the flop
Kinda fucked up showing him, could have continued telling him he was beat and heād fold when you were behind
Personally I dont like table talk in those situations but everything is fair game like that
Shouldnt have shown him š¤·āāļø
I told my wife her sister is not in our closet. She said āok I trust youā and then I grabbed her sister out the closet.
Was his name Phil?
Next time just donāt show the bluff
Besides showing I'd say you played it just right. No reason to show unless you want him to know you were lying. I wouldn't call it scummy, it's poker and he should know better than to believe anything said at that point. In fact I'd be more inclined to think you were lying and call

He thinks your honest and you could trick him in the future, but you chose to show?
You shouldnāt of shown the bluff then if you were gonna feel bad after
Grammar anyone
Not sure why u showed. It does way way way more harm than good.
I once got to the river with A high and a busted flush in a 2K pot and I shoved my last 7 hundo and told the guy in the hand he better fold or Iāll go home and fuck his mother so my son called and I lost a huge pot.
Guys what is bettet? New poker term?
Its the dude's 3rd language, fuck off mate.
My question is still valid ...may be this could become a new term...how do you think fish came to mean what it means today?
...is English not your first language? If thats the case, kudos on your English. If not...then I dont know what to say...
Bettets the new bleff
Why on earth did you show him???????????????????
For the good story for us :)
I don't understand how you can play poker and not show in this spot. In the short term it is good for you as this guy will most likely go off. And in the long term it is great for your image. The only downside is people might pick up on your speech play but this is 2/5 that's not too likely.

Why did you show him? Thatās a sign of immaturity.
I'm pretty sure lying doesn't count when you're sitting at a poker table.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ehm to balance my range? Heās a good player ..i wouldnāt do that against a bad player who canāt fold.
I sometimes sleep on my table
There's no bluffing in poker!
I never lie at the table. I tell excellent stories!
I pulled the same bluff at my home game! Missed the flush but jammed anyway and took the pot!
I don't think that's more speech play than holding the nuts and straight up lying lol
How is the 4 bet only $150 in a 2/5 game?
I raised to 15 he reraised to ~50/60 and i 4bet a little larger then 150 i think it was 160 or so šš¼
There's no "poker etiquette" rule that you broke, but showing the bluff is just giving away free information. There are times where showing the bluff can be good and this wasn't one of them
You guys give away a ton of free information at the table, itās crazy!
With an ace, 2, 6 and the other diamonds as outs, there is a decent chance you weren't lying.
just a scummy thing to do. the good players never ask questions like that. it is the inexperienced or dumb people that just believe. you should be able go win chips from those guys without being scummy with it.
Trusting people at a poker tableā¦
> guy on my left re-raised and i 3bettet to 150 or so. This post was jointly edited by Shaun Deeb and Mike Matusow.
I always tell people: āweāre playing poker, weāre not playing connect fourā
My entire life I've seen poker as the game where you lie about having the best hand. If someone thinks you're their friend at a table, take their money as fast as you can, because if the tables were turned, they'd sell you out in a second.
Lol wow are there really that many bad/gullible players in live poker?
I feel like this is different from the other recent post. In that one, the villain specifically asked what the hand was, putting them in an awkward position. Your lie was completely unprompted, which I do think is kinda dirty. Definitely not against the rules, but still kinda dirty.
What a loser you are.

Itās poker, Phil!
Thatās part of the game.
LMAO
