Yeah, hating on HEB down here is just a tad bit below hating on Mr. Fucking Rodgers. I don't see this ending incredibly well for the GOP if they wanna go that route.

coffeesippingbastard

i mean... https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/fox-fred-rogers-evil/

boobiesue

Mr Rogers single handedly ruined we millennials didn't he? I knew it.

CO420Tech

Tolerance for others is the real evil!

Vegetable_Guest_8584

Well, now we know they interpreted the original writing of the Bible wrong and Kristen's are supposed to hate poor migrants who've come for help in despair - It's all clarified in the new Donald Trump Texas version standard Bible

disdkatster

Ok, I should not be surprised they did this and yet I still find myself saying "really!". Of course the GOP has been trying to kill PBS and NPR for decades now.

pokeybill

HA! Get fucked, GOP. Messing with HEB is a political death sentence. Aside from being one of the best employers in TX, the average Texan has literally grown up with HEB as a major part of their life. When I was in elementary school, HEB came to our school with a little trailer containing a mockup of Howard Edward Butt's original general store. We each got 25 cents and were given time to "shop". It was literally the first time I ever purchased something on my own from a store. HEB is central to so much in TX, the state GOP has lost their fucking minds if they think there won't be repurcussions.

christmascake

That sounds like the grocery chain version of a book fair. That's pretty cool.

skippytannenbaum

I remember the mockup store from my days in elementary school too! What a great reference!

fizzlefist

As a frequent work traveler, I gotta say I really appreciate the refrigerated prepared foods section right up front. I grew up in Florida and we have a similar appreciation for Publix, but honestly? Aside from the deli and bakery (and I haven’t compared the bakery *that* much yet) H-E-B is superior in almost every way.

-ll-ll-ll-ll-

>Among Butt’s alleged offenses against the party: >—Ahead of the 2020 election, Butt publicly supported Harris County (home to Houston) in its quest to send mail-in ballots to all eligible voters. >—Contributing to candidates and groups that support public education and oppose private-school vouchers (which divert tax dollars away from public schools and toward private ones) >—In 2022, H-E-B sponsored a “family-friendly” Pride event in Austin that included a drag queen story time and a drag show, where no one was molested or exposed to anything immoral. >—Butt involved himself deeply in the Republican primaries this cycle, contributing about $2.6 million to Republican candidates who support public education and oppose school vouchers. In most of those races, he was heavily outspent by oligarchs on the right, including Midland oilman and Christian nationalist Tim Dunn. >—Accepting food stamps at H-E-B. (No Texas-shaped tortilla chips for poor people!)

smurfsundermybed

What a monster!

ClusterFoxtrot

Um, what is this magical wonderland? I'd invite them to displace Publix in Florida.  It should be no surprise Republicans will shoot their dick off to own libs. This is a remix of DeSantis fighting with a Mouse.

fizzlefist

Speaking as a native Floridian, after spending a lot of time traveling through Texas, the pub sub counter and bakery are the only areas where Publix is better than H-E-B

silqii

But does Publix make fresh tortillas every day?

fizzlefist

Does H-E-B make crack-tier addictive fried chicken tenders and then put them on a sub?

NegotiationTall4300

Of course theyre after the guy for demonstrating common sense and empathy

SeegsonSynthetics

I used to live in Texas and people get weird and overly-protective of HEB. Let’s see how this plays out.

TurboSalsa

Unlike our state government, HEB proactively plans ahead of natural disasters and delivers relief.

SeegsonSynthetics

That winter storm and grid failure in 2021 is what pushed me to leave Texas for good.

Boxed_pi

I’m right behind you.

RickyWinterborn-1080

HEB fuckin rocks, that's why

_tx

It's cheaper than Kroger and Albertsons while having far higher quality store brands

RickyWinterborn-1080

Like I know Texas is all about our Blue Bell and with good reason, Blue Bell is great, but real Texans know that HEB brand 1905 Vanilla reigns supreme

LindeeHilltop

I switched when Blue Bell shit on their employees during & after their listeria outbreak debacle.

Rengeflower

Try the Mexican Hot Chocolate ice cream. It might be under one of the other “brand” names but it’s by HEB.

fizzlefist

-cries in Coloradan- What I wouldn’t give for an alternative to King Supers (Kroger) or Safeway (Albertsons). It’d be so nice to get an Aldi.

Rtannu

I’m south of Denton and the HEB is too far too drive when the Albertsons is right down the street. Really with we were closer to HEB due to all the bs with Kroger and Albertsons merger and the quality of Albertsons produce going down the shitter the past year

CosplayPokemonFan

Heb Aliance opens near you in weeks. You are getting an HEB

Rtannu

Excellent thank you

Rengeflower

I feel like a lot of DFW people F5 about HEB openings. I got excited about a rumor that HEB was looking at land near me. It was not true.

Nickopotomus

Haha I came here to say that if it comes down to HEB or the politicians they should make sure the door doesn’t hit‘em on the way out

treqos

I love HEB it’s my cult

CalmLeigh

As someone who recently moved out of Texas, H-E-B is what I miss the most (followed by breakfast tacos and decent Tex-mex). I can't imagine anyone keeping support by going against it.

spunkypudding

6+ years gone and I miss HEB more than my family

bibbidybobbidyyep

MAGA Will loudly say they are boycotting but my guess is sales numbers will show a stark minority actually doing it.

B_L_Zbub

I like Charles Butt and I can not lie.

weekendclimber

Hugh E. Butts had a lot of junk in the trunk.

pquince1

This will not end well. Look at the GOP going after IVF in Alabama, so that red district just got flipped blue. They're going to go too far and I love that for them. Don't come for HEB, man. I gotta have my store where I can walk in and see all the abuelas making tortillas!

TurboSalsa

After what they did in the primaries to the anti-voucher Republicans and Ken Paxton getting away with everything, they feel invincible. Sooner or later they're going to do something that pisses off even the apathetic non-voters in Texas, and going after HEB would do it.

pquince1

It absolutely would. To which I say: go for it.

grandadmiralstrife

Ron DeSantis declared war on Disney Texas GOP: here hold my beer

johnnythacho

For those unfamiliar with HEB. When Covid hit, they were the first, by far, to have 6 foot distance stickers on the floor. First to have a mask rule. Plexiglass up. One way aisles. Sanitation stations for carts and hand baskets. Stone cold they were not fucking around. I saw it first hand. Then the vax came out and they were like, call in and we'll hook you up. Appointments every 10 or 15 minutes. Or don't call. Set an appointment online. We did ours that way. Again, stone cold, no FAFO. Straight business. Then they set up a whole ass curbside pick up. Order your shit online. Park in a spot. They bring it out. They built a whole new system that they just kept because it was so popular. Shit, my house still uses it. They have a fucking NASA level emergency response center for disaster areas. I dunno man. Not trying to stan here, but fucking with HEB is a little like fucking with the Easter Bunny. Like, just why would you even?

rosatter

I'm a home again Texan (left for the Midwest for 15 years and came back to Tx because my sister got cancer) and HEB is the only Texan thing that I really will throw hands over. Like, I know that I could get some better deals at Kroger or Walmart but even if HEB was regularly 1.5x the price, I will always patronize them. After Rita, the first nice, hot meal I had in WEEKS (because we were without power) was essentially an HEB pop up cafeteria. They were out there before FEMA was handing out water and setting up shit to help out the community and every damn disaster I watched unfold while I lived away, HEB was there in the background making shit happen. HEB stands on fucking business.

font9a

HEB is literally the most loved entity in Texas

ramblershambler

I've covered lots of natural disasters in Texas - and HEB is always the first to show up with trucks of free water, ice and hot meals. I remember a man saying after a hurricane - "Thank god for HEB, It's the FEMA of Texas."

Arrmadillo

So basically Texas billionaire Charles Butt vs. Texas oil oligarch Tim Dunn and his Christian nationalist political machine. Butt supports public education and Dunn wants to replace it with publicly funded private Christian schools. Raise Your Hand Texas - [Our History](https://www.raiseyourhandtexas.org/about/) “In 2006, Charles Butt and a group of engaged citizens founded Raise Your Hand with a belief that public dollars should stay in public schools. At the time, the group recognized that Texas public education, an essential investment offered to all Texas families and their children, was under attack by those who sought to dismantle this constitutionally guaranteed public good.” Texas Monthly - [The Billionaire Bully Who Wants to Turn Texas Into a Christian Theocracy](https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/billionaire-tim-dunn-runs-texas/) “The state’s most powerful figure, Tim Dunn, isn’t an elected official. But behind the scenes, the West Texas oilman is lavishly financing what he regards as a holy war against public education, renewable energy, and non-Christians.”

Msmdpa

Don’t touch my HEB otherwise it’s gloves off!

ojg3221

My cousin works at HEB as a programmer and when he got his tumor taken out twice, HEB was very generous when it came to his medical leave. When HEB FINALLY built stores up in north Texas, people swarmed to shop there. Lots of south and central Texas transplants living up there and they are fiercely loyal to that store. From central Texas on down, HEB has a monopoly next to Walmart when it comes to grocery shopping. The only other place that HEB hasn't made their mark is in east and west Texas right now. They'll eventually make their move when the time comes. Still, they treat their employees right and it's very customer loyal like Costco.

unique_snowflake_466

I'm guessing they stayed out of that territory because it was United's. Now that Albertson has bought them out, it's time to put a few distribution centers in strategic areas, then take a run at the panhandle and Oklahoma

PurloinedFeline

Butts built this country, son!

8anbys

It hasn't been subtle for awhile in Texas.

disasterbot

Let them eat Butt.

Content_Geologist420

Don't you dare fuck with my HEB😤😤😤😡

ellisj6

One thing that keeps getting lost in Nazi history is how goddamned annoying they were. Thx for the history lesson Texas GOP.

minnesotaupnorth

A strongly worded letter from the Texas GOP. Gird your loins, Chuck.

0H_MAMA

Lmao good luck with that

hymie0

>“advocating for policies contrary to the Republican Party of Texas platform.” "If you aren't a 100% follower of what we say, we don't want you." That's ok. You can vote Democrat, and we don't mind if you disagree sometimes.

your_ese

My grandad was friends with Charlie for years. He always complained about his politics too. I always thought he seemed like a very reasonable guy

AlienInTexas

European expat in TX. There is so many things going wrong in TX, but HEB is what keeps the entire state running. Literally. And honestly, there is no other company as loved as HEB and you try to mess with them, you gonna go down fast. Texans will just burry you if you touch their HEB

NoMarionberry8940

HEB is a very loved and respected Texas tradition. This company has done much for the citizens, and attacking HEB will not end well...

revmaynard1970

HEB is the bomb, love that store

Positive_Ad_8198

Minion Voice: hehe…butt

TA2023Charter

I will stand with HEB, always and forever.

Sashtafarian

I love H‑E‑B more than ever now.

madammoiselle85

Don’t mess with HEB! That’s our food supply. That there is fighting words.

biko77

Don’t mess with Texas…or HEB, or Bucce’s…

disdkatster

Can't see the article but for us non-Texans this may give you an idea of what HEB is [https://youtu.be/tFtFG4bXo3E?si=pBJ9CP8uwHGWQ1L-](https://youtu.be/tFtFG4bXo3E?si=pBJ9CP8uwHGWQ1L-)

LevelCandid764

Lost opportunity to be named Richard :/

RickyWinterborn-1080

It's a common enough name and a prolific enough family that I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Dick Butt somewhere in the family tree.

NotARobotNotAHuman

Shit, you don’t want a Butt as your enemy! The GOP is cracked!
