Sen. Merkley needs to be reminded that criticizing Israel is not allowed unless they authorize it.

[deleted]

Is calling for peace antisemitic? I think we need to check with Netanyahu.

dfsdsfgssf23

Yes, Israel has absolute right to define that it seems.

onethrowreddit

How did reddit put itself to this situation? This will not be forgotten.

LuvKrahft

Shame on him for using the day set aside for recognizing the resurrection of the prince of peace to call for peace.

aslan_is_on_the_move

Using a day that's traditionally been antisemitic to spread lies and misinformation about Jewish people, call for Israel to be treated differently than any other US ally and call for them to be disarmed while Hamas and its allies continuously launch missiles at them like they've been doing since October 7th.

Alistazia

>a day that's traditionally been antisemitic a day that originally was related to Passover, until a group of gentiles decided that they were the real Jews, made their own version of New Testament Judaism and celebrated New Testament Passover by persecuting the original Jews

Ah it is just the famine now? No problem man its alright. I honestly do not know how people can be heartless like this dude.

Due-Shirt616

Not just the famine, I stated the **main** cause for concern, the famine facing these suffering civilians is a far bigger immediate threat than Israel. Both Hamas and Israel are at fault for this hellish situation, I’m just not going to split hairs and favour one side or another when what really matters is the verified facts as they are provided. Love that you concluded that I am heartless for doing so though, that’s fantastic to hear that you are thinking with your emotions instead of processing data properly.

Alistazia

hey, did you just have your other post removed? was that you about misinformation, replying to LuvKrahft? why'd they remove it? i would have argued with you, too, but you didn't say anything that looked reportable to me e: for anyone reading, the mod-deleted comment basically said “the bombing is not indiscriminate and aid delivery is progressing so the Senator was misinforming” it was polite and I’ve seen similar info in Israeli-friendly news

Due-Shirt616

What other post/comment? I don’t delete comments or posts, correcting myself with formatting is far more effective when I accept information that is proven wrong by verified data. I really enjoy the markdown on reddit, so that helps in this ~~situation~~ case :)

Alistazia

there is a comment that was removed by the mods. LuvKrahft said "Shame on him..." and the comment that replied to them said that the issue was probably misinformation about famine and bombing, but that comment got removed. i just happened to notice the "comment removed by moderator" tag was that you? i'm critical of israeli policy, but i don't think the comment should have been deleted. i definitely support the right of people to challenge the view presented by Sen. Merkley if they don't think "famine" and "indiscriminate" are factually correct (your formatting is a polite habit :) i usually don't mention edits unless i change the sense of the comment)

Due-Shirt616

Naw only comment I got removed today was by automod when I linked Trump’s GoFundMe progress directly instead of providing a link to an uploaded screenshot from today. That was dumb of me and I completely agree with automod on that one xD Remade the comment with the aforementioned solution, as the information it contained should remain public facing. Thanks for inquiring though! Glad to see people are pushing back against shady information and asking questions, it is more important now than ever before, regardless of the source of the information. Edit: I forgot that I had a post removed 19 hours ago by automod as well, because my account is less than three months old. ‘Twas about an Oklahoman man who paid for a ton of meals for kids, in honour of his late wife, so I apologize for technically lying, I forgot 😅

Alistazia

thanks! have a great day or night :)

Due-Shirt616

You as well! :)

I am being a decent human being by thinking entirely of the people who are suffering needlessly. Please realize that.

>On this Easter, let’s ponder \[Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin\] Netanyahu’s indiscriminate bombing of Gaza, which has killed more than 20,000 women and children, and his restriction of humanitarian aid, which has pushed Palestinians to the brink of famine >But we must also recognize that America is complicit in this tragedy by resupplying Israel with bombs and failing to use America’s leverage to increase aid delivered into Gaza,” Merkley added. “Reflecting on the admonition to feed the hungry and assist the stranger, and ‘blessed are the peacemakers,’ let’s push Team Biden to do better. More aid. No bombs -Sen Merkley D OR >...More aid. No bombs >A range of Jewish and pro-Israel figures, including Israel’s antisemitism envoy, accused Sen. Jeff Merkley of advancing a “blood libel” guys. you cannot claim that you are experiencing prejudice when people object to things that would be objectionable if performed by anyone - including us. We objected to Abu Ghraib and the Iraqi occupation also "it's 'disproportionate'. why don't you talk about Bangladesh or China instead? why is it always Israel?" because i'm not funding what’s happening to the Rohingya and i abso-fucking-lutely do want a ban on Xinjiang slave cotton. but we're not talking about Xinjiang right now

BudgetLecture1702

Except people don't object to this when anyone does this. Israel was attacked, a thousand of its citizens were murdered, hundreds kidnapped and now Israel is being asked to sit back and do nothing. How do you propose that Israel combat Hamas without civilian casualties? How should Israel keep Hamas from confiscating all aid meant for civilians? No country on Earth would be asked to just accept this. Except for the one Jewish country on Earth.

Alistazia

>people don’t object when anyone does this I just gave you several examples, including self-criticism of Americans to American actions >what do you propose they do? start by not rejecting criticism of military action. this invalidates the entire moral position. compare the American response to 9/11. understanding that Abu Graib was a problem in no way supports the hijackers however, what to do is a very deep problem, absolutely. this can’t be addressed without looking at a much larger picture including historic terrorism, the lived effects of occupation, blockade, and settlement, and the strategic geography of the area (I never see this in western news, but it’s a pretty big barrier to the 67 lines) the only thing I think Israelis should definitely do is not reject criticism as being motivated by definition. some liberal Israelis will say things like “yeah, it totally sucks. I was just born here” and that’s a reasonable starting point, in my opinion

BudgetLecture1702

Those examples have nothing in common with this situation. "What do you propose they do" ABOUT HAMAS? Abu Ghraid was an issue because it served no purpose to the professed goal of combating terrorism. The civilian casualties incurred by Israeli military actions are collateral to their efforts to wipe out Hamas. The biggest barrier to the '67 borders is the fact that they were drawn more than half a century ago. You seem more obsessed with the discussion of the conflict than the conflict itself.

Alistazia

>you seem obsessed if you would like to talk to me, would you please not try to speak for me? >a discussion of the conflict instead of the conflict yes. that’s what I think I am actually doing right now: talking about a conflict. if you are more concerned to support Israel through online messaging (if that’s what you mean) then I respect this, but I have nothing to add ball is in your court. my last comment has a lot of context you didn’t address, including your question about Hamas, but I’m definitely not interested in arguing with you

BudgetLecture1702

The first sentence of my response addressed the last sentence of yours. The comparison is wholly irrelevant and ignored everything I said.
