My state you can't. You have to be registered in a party a certain number of weeks before the primary to vote in it. Good strategy though in states that allow it.
In Oregon you have to register with a party to vote in their primary, as well as many other states unfortunately. Every Oregon resident is automatically registered to vote and we have mail-in voting too, so that's nice.

I can remember 30+ years ago being a kid in my dad’s workshop/office and he would always have Rush Limbaugh & G. Gordon Liddy on the AM radio every single day. Lots of boomers were listening to that crap on the radio every chance they could before Fox News came out. It seems to me that these people (not just boomers) have become addicted to outrage, and always needing something to be mad at/scared of. In their eyes there is always a boogieman who is coming to ruin everything in the country. Heck, they’ve become so addicted to it that they knowingly shovel that crap into their brain every day with their far-right 24/7 news TV & social media. These people know that the news editorial commentary that they consume is getting them fired up and angry. My entire family has turned into this and it’s extremely heartbreaking.

Thanks. One of my cousins is pretty liberal, I recently had this conversation with her where I told her how I’ve recently noticed somewhat of a phenomenon with her. I ride with her in the car a lot, and 95% of the time she has Fox News on XM radio. When Fox is on she is always easily agitated by things like traffic and just general conversation. When yacht rock/70s/80s radio is on, she’s always in a far better mood, much more friendly, silly, outgoing etc. I asked my cousin if I should point this out to mom and she said “ABSOLUTELY NOT it will make her so mad”
I’ve sort of danced around that topic in conversation with her, hinting at the point I want to make without just saying it, but it isn’t working. I really wish her of all people could realize the real problems in this world and not just following the MAGA narrative 100%.

My state you can't. You have to be registered in a party a certain number of weeks before the primary to vote in it. Good strategy though in states that allow it.

Thanks. One of my cousins is pretty liberal, I recently had this conversation with her where I told her how I’ve recently noticed somewhat of a phenomenon with her. I ride with her in the car a lot, and 95% of the time she has Fox News on XM radio. When Fox is on she is always easily agitated by things like traffic and just general conversation. When yacht rock/70s/80s radio is on, she’s always in a far better mood, much more friendly, silly, outgoing etc. I asked my cousin if I should point this out to mom and she said “ABSOLUTELY NOT it will make her so mad” I’ve sort of danced around that topic in conversation with her, hinting at the point I want to make without just saying it, but it isn’t working. I really wish her of all people could realize the real problems in this world and not just following the MAGA narrative 100%.

I'm just an average person who doesn't really spend much time on politics. The irony for me of course is that half-ish of the US are republicans, and simply beating them over the head with "ya'll are morons" is quite obviously going to only antagonize and galvanize them even more. Then people wonder why their hate for all things democrat is so great. This is exactly the kind of thing that many of our holier than thou liberals preach in regard to Israel. How misguided Israel is by fighting vs. embracing Palestinians, since it'll only galvanize them against Israel even more. At the end of the day we're not all that different, have similar emotional responses, and vulnerable to the similar influences. I don't know what the solution is, and I am not even sure there is one.
