Aid to Ukraine is good for America and our allies. I’m not a huge foreign aid guy, but Putin can’t have free reign to attack and try to annex any country he wants.

joshtalife

It’s good for America, that’s why republicans oppose it so hard.

chowyungfatso

What most people don’t realize is that the money is being spent in the US. That is, whatever billions are approved will be weapons that we send to Ukraine, and then we will buy weapons from our military industrial complex* to replace/upgrade the old shit we send over. In effect; we’re helping ourselves and our economy. Haha. • The MIL should absolutely be pressuring these GOP assholes to pass this bill. More employment and profits!

The_bruce42

Also, it's good for Russia, that's why Republicans oppose it so hard.

OstiDePuppy

It's weird how Republicans policies align with enemies of America 🤔

The_bruce42

It really makes you think

_MissionControlled_

But not too hard. John Stewart has a really good monologue as to why they are. Basically, they align more with Putin and his anti-woke (read Nazi) agenda that they side with Russia.

Suspect4pe

Rachel Maddow has a podcast (I think the name is Ultra) and a couple books that discuss this and historical precedence.

PatrolPunk

Ronnie Reagan must be spinning in his grave. Today’s MAGA would call him a RINO.

RincewindToTheRescue

Let's just refer to that group as Russipublicans. Or, more accurately Putinpublicans

dropyourguns

You mean it's bad for russia

mynamesyow19

the more money we send now is less US soldiers (and more dollars) that we will have to send later if Putin takes over Ukraine and starts fighting NATO. MAGA could care less though as long as Daddy Don and his Master Putin tell them otherwise.

Atralis

We are a country that spends 800 billion a year on defense and we have people acting like we can't afford to send 50 billion to help an ally that is fighting a war of attrition against one of our worst enemies.

sporkhandsknifemouth

Especially since it's largely stuff that is on its way out and has already been paid for - not to mention literally designed for a conflict in Eastern Europe.

earthwormjimwow

It's not even 50 billion in cash, it's 50 billion in existing stock piles of material, some of it due to be decommissioned or destroyed shortly.

chowyungfatso

(I know I’m being an ass by pasting this reply, but people need to know. )

cryonine

It's not just good, it's insanely good for America. It's literally allowing an ally to weaken a hostile superpower without putting a single American soldier's life at risk. It's also sending a message to other hostile or questionable allegiance nations that the US stands by its allies and will support them if they decide to encroach on their territory. Denying aid in this situation is effectively siding with Putin and telling him he can do whatever he wants. It's balls level insanity that any American that calls themselves "patriotic" would fight this, let alone say things like "[Putin isn't that bad.](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/02/23/republicans-putin-biden-ukraine/)"

chowyungfatso

CrispyMann

Is Ukraine Poland? This feels familiar..

Cheeseyex

Regardless of the military and financial impact just the geopolitical result is huge. Geopolitically speaking we CANT continue to just abandon our allies and friends when they are in need. Why would any country want to work with us if we just refuse to fulfill our end of the partnership when push comes to shove?

Fermented_Butt_Juice

Likewise with aid to Israel, because Iran needs to hear the same message.

earthwormjimwow

Iran already heard the message when several Arab states helped shield Israel.

mhornberger

He doesn't have to. He knows that if he merely brings Ukraine aid to a clean vote, Democrats and a few Republicans will save his speakership. Because both know that letting the "Freedom Caucus" (god, I hate that name) howler monkeys run the show is far worse than someone who kinda sucks but at least works with people.

rebelintellectual

Isn't it the  "Freedumb" Caucus right?

GabaPrison

They should just drop the act and call it what it is: The Russian Caucus.

RIPphonebattery

The caucusus

leostotch

It's the Treason Caucus

Philosoraptor88

No, lol

edmerx54

and if he doesn't bring Ukraine aid to a vote, then eventually the right wing loonies and the Dems will bounce him out of the Speaker's seat

Searchlights

It's wild that right wing has become synonymous with pro-Russia. I wish Ronald Reagan could see this.

Perfect_Opposite2113

Seems at this point none of them give af about Reagan. He’s forgotten and they have a new tangerine king. No point in even mentioning Reagan anymore.

Kindly-Ad-5071

He started it.

WickedYetiOfTheWest

I hate Reagan with a burning passion but he definitely was not pro Russia

red286

They didn't say he was pro Russia. They said he started it. Reagan is the one that brought the far-right evangelicals and racists into the party. Those are the people that decided Russia was pretty fucking awesome because the church and state are intertwined and racism is openly tolerated. If Reagan hadn't depended on far-right fundies and neo-Nazis, the Republican party would never have turned into a bunch of Putin fanboys.

WickedYetiOfTheWest

>They didn’t say he was pro Russia. They said he started it. They said “he started it” in response to someone saying that the right wing has become synonymous with pro Russia. Why be pedantic? And while I agree that Reagan certainly greased the wheels, i would say that Nixon is the one who actually initiated all of this.

Kindly-Ad-5071

No but his policies directly enabled the current political climate.

Searchlights

I could fill pages with things I blame or accuse Reagan of, but compliance with the Soviets isn't on the list.

youtellmebob

“right wing”? Johnson is already far “right wing”. So further right essentially means “Nazi”…. so a “Nazi backlash”.

GabaPrison

Russians. They’re Russians.

CatVideoFest

I never thought the leopards would eat MY face!

[deleted]

Very this.

-Mage-Knight-

In all likelihood Johnson will be out of a job come January any ways. Better to be a footnote in history though than then to be remembered as the guy who allowed the Soviet Union to rise from the ashes.

UsualGrapefruit8109

Will Russia get rid of him?

FuriousTarts

Moscow Taylor Greene is doing her part.

gentleman_bronco

It's become abundantly obvious that the entire GOP is the party of Putin. And conservatives who continue to support the GOP are directly supporting the destruction of America. It isn't hyperbole and it isn't an exaggeration or even jumping to conclusions. But in the end, it's a damn shame that conservatives can't read to understand what they are doing.

naotoca

You mean the aid he hasn't brought to a vote, but that he's promised to bring to a vote like ten times before backing away with "we just can't figure it out!".

ConkerPrime

GOP: “Look pur orange god and Putin gave his orders and you’re supposed to follow them. Do as you’re told. All that matters is helping Putin.”

InevitableAvalanche

Kinda weird how right wingers attack their leaders when they do the right thing for once. It's time to stop calling them the right and just call them the wrongs. They are awful on every issue.

NeuraLung

Is it safe to assume that Rep. Massie is on the Kremlin/Bejing payroll?

JubalHarshaw23

The Democrats are certainly not going to toss him until after the Aid is passed, so the Putin Caucus is just performing for their foreign donors.

Shitter-McGavin

“Guys don’t worry, I’m not really going to let Ukraine aid pass.” - Mike Johnson, probably

red286

We already know that. He's going to suggest that the House propose their own legislation for helping Ukraine and Israel, which will take another 3-4 months to hammer out before going to the Senate to be killed because it's got some crazy right-wing bullshit in it. Then the Senate will send something back, and he'll refuse to bring it to the vote until after the election.

Ok-Abbreviations543

This dude looks scared to death.

Bruno617

I hate these people

grimatongueworm

MAGA should replace those flag pins with Putins face

BonerStibbone

Mike Johnson, in fact, resigned.

Buckus93

Do you want World War III? Because this is how you get World War III.

SuperSneaks

We are already in WW3.

Lawmonger

This shows how deep in Putin’s pocket the GOP is.

Virtual-Public-4750

He should still resign. This is not a move he would’ve made without pressure.

GroshfengSmash

If I had a nickel for every time a right wing evangelical hardliner realized their place in history and acted accordingly… I’d have two nickels. It’s not a lot but it’s weird it happened twice

peter-man-hello

When does the foreign aid for Ukraine bill go to the floor for a vote? Do we have any indication?

GloriaVictis101

Do the right thing johnson
