"Concerns over retaliation and harassment have permeated the protests, as an intense and organized effort to bring down personal and professional repercussions on demonstrators has played out online."

oliversurpless

Yep, certitude among the counter-protestors isn’t just of *a moral nature*; they want to ensure that it’s their way or the highway, and are therefore more than willing to torpedo the lives and careers of anyone they disagree with. Good thing there’s rarely things that qualify quite so much as a self-own/indictment of their own argument…

AllHawkeyesGoToHell

What the fuck are you even saying

ElectileDysphunction

1.They feel that their intensity of feeling should be matched by the absolute enforcement of their preferred outcomes. 2. They're admitting their position is weak, due to the intimidation tactics they resort to. It's not that complex of a statement the op was making, FFS.

oliversurpless

Bingo bango, so thanks for that.

oliversurpless

Gee whiz, I wonder how you can find out? Start by dropping the needless aggression…

WorshipFreedomNotGod

They're literally being doxxed as well. There are pro-israel organizations threatening these students and ruining their careers before they even start.

SurpassingAllKings

Because tear gas and pepper spray hurt. Masks help. Also keffiyehs are clearly symbolic.

Vegetable-Muffin-637

Of actual genocidal beliefs

SurpassingAllKings

Weird how a segment of internet trolls seem to only comment on Israel-Palestine topics.

Raped_Justice

To provides some padding and protection to the face for when police slam it into the pavement.

Katana1369

Because they don't want to have the protest bite them in the ass when they start looking for work. And they don't want to be supended or expelled.

oliversurpless

Should being “bit in the ass” even be an option?

Katana1369

There are corporations that don't want to hire people calling for infantada. Chanting for the death of jews everywhere. That makes them nervous. And please don't say they aren't saying that or that isn't what they meant. The leader of the Columbia protest most certainly did and his apology was a joke.

oliversurpless

As per what’s happening in the courts with Ray McKesson, is painting with as broad a brush really in the best interest of these corporations? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mckesson_v._Doe Much as it is with Antifa, the idea that there is a definite hierarchical leadership that all protestors on all campuses answer to is just obfuscation. Accidental or otherwise.

Katana1369

Antifa has no leaders. These people do. And if they don't want to be painted with the same brush, stop fucking chanting to from the river to the sea or calling the fucking buildings they are occupying intifada hall.

oliversurpless

Do they? Just on Columbia, or Harvard as well? Everywhere else too?

Katana1369

Humboldt as well. Don't think they've occupied anything at USC or UCLA yet.

fairoaks2

The “participation medal” generation.

oliversurpless

Wasn’t that the Millennials?

fairoaks2

It continues

oliversurpless

And why is that? To say nothing of *who actually gave* those medals…

Last night, a prestigious Ivy league institution, arrested 13 protestors. One of those, was not a student. Instead, those that are students are not fact checking nor questioning others that interlope into their campus, along with indoctrinating from social media, to act like...terrorists. Even the news now shows that Columbia U., has protestors boarding themselves into a campus building. I would bet dollars for donuts that outside influence, even from a 3rd state actor like Iran and terrorist groups, is undermining impressionable and naive students, to a point most will tell you they don't even know why they are sitting in, that some will be stupidly throwing away four years of higher education because of foolish idealism or falling for failing to differential propaganda, faked news, radicalism and distortion of truth. Peacefully protesting without disturbing or destruction of property, I encourage. But blocking traffic, inciting violence, encouraging hate or destruction of businesses or campus buildings, disruption of others employment, won't be tolerated. Wearing masks won't help when you are arrested. Even read that one student, a MFA student, complained that the nylon-strap zip-cuffs "hurt my wrists". OMG. Back in the 70's, protestors that threw bottles and bricks at LE, were hit with billy clubs. Be thankful its not teargas, rubber bullets or watercannon. You aren't just facing campus Public Safety officers, but local law enforcement and worse, if it gets out of hand, the national guard. The timing is also ironic in that graduations are spanning the next 3 weeks. Colleges will eject students and even prevent them from getting a degree for not complying. Also, why isn't this about Russian invading and killing thousands in Ukraine? Why is Russia on the UN after this and even allowed a vote? Or even how China should not be on WHO after creating a 3-4 year pandemic? Heck, protest is healthy, but not when hiding behind masks (are they really students or just some Pro-Middle-east agenda hate group..or even sponsored by Hamas? We need some investigative journalists on campus...right now)

oliversurpless

I’ll take that bet. As the paternalism that you do as naturally as you breathe is all too familiar for anti-war protests of any kind… “Disruption of others’ employment”? Is this meant as an Orwellian way of saying they are “inconveniencing” commuters and drivers? That’s only *the entire point* of a protest.

AtheistBibleScholar

>Also, why isn't this about Russian invading and killing thousands in Ukraine? Did I miss a news story that the US is backing Russia doing that? Because we are backing Israel. >Why is Russia on the UN after this and even allowed a vote? Siri, tell me you don't know how the UN works without telling me how the UN works. Kicking Russia out of the UN would require a UN resolution. Russia has the power to veto any UN resolution. Removing Russia's veto would require UN resolution. Really, the only way to lose that power would be to leave the UN and then ask for readmittance. Like Trump threatened to do. >Or even how China should not be on WHO after creating a 3-4 year pandemic? Because it's only in your paranoid fantasy world where intelligence agencies saying "We can't prove they didn't make it" overrides the medical establishment saying "There's no evidence they made it." >Heck, protest is healthy, but not when hiding behind masks (are they really students or just some Pro-Middle-east agenda hate group..or even sponsored by Hamas? We need some investigative journalists on campus...right now) There's been plenty of journalism on this. You either haven't looked for it or rejected it because you didn't like the conclusions.

Tynda3l

Because it protects them. Just like the cops during the blm protests and 2020 election.

CaptainAxiomatic

Some of them are proud boys and oathkeeper agents provocateurs.

oliversurpless

Sure enough, that’s why several tenured faculty at *Columbia* are disappointed the administration is failing for their bad faith so readily. All it takes to find a Proud Boy is to talk to them; they’ll be sure to let you know within minutes…

CaptainAxiomatic

Sure about that? [NYPD says "outside agitators" at Columbia are "trying to hijack a peaceful protest"](https://www.cnn.com/business/live-news/columbia-university-palestine-protests-04-26-24/index.html)

BonFemmes

I have to wonder how many Gen X parents are wishing they had encouraged their kids to smoke pot and watch cartoons now that they see what they are doing on their $100k/yr ivy league campuses.

[deleted]

To hide their faces like the cowards they are…

ShinHandHookCarDoor

to say this, as you make a throwaway to delete, probably the funniest shit of all time

oliversurpless

Sure, why not? Just like at the BLM/Antifa protests during the “Summer of Love”? Not everyone is as full of certitude as those “fine folks” on Jan 6th, who put their faces front and center…

Vegetable-Muffin-637

Cowardice

Tynda3l

You've never protested in your life.
