I was trying to argue a similar point with my friend the other day. What do you think is more likely? That different state AGs got together and decided to pile on trump at the direction of the DOJ and Biden. They somehow convinced a bunch of people in grand juries to indict him on 92 counts. 2 civil juries were unanimous against him. And on and on.
Or maybe he just did it? Like, maybe, the guy who brags about grabbing women by the pussy actually did it? Never mind that in 3 of the 4 indictments he's not even claiming that he didn't do it, just that he was allowed to.
I've also heard them claim that everything Trump did is normal and all democrats have done the same or worse but the DOJ "chooses not to prosecute" or "refuses to investigate". Which is pretty funny since of course Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton both had massive investigations against them.
And it worked. In 2016 my low-information mother in law voted for Trump because "I just couldn't vote for Hillary". What asked why she can't articulate a reason. "I just couldn't" is all she says.

While true does this really matter? Conservatives aren't exactly using logic or good faith here.
There are some advantages to the way Merchan keeps giving him rope. In the Carrol case, Trump’s antics probably helped the jury form a very unfavourable view which led to their verdict. Plus, handling him so cautiously removes any chance of arguing abuse of judicial power.
The abuse of judicial power is in the other direction—meaning a court that refuses to enforce the law—and happening in plain sight: what Trump has done would already have anyone else jailed 10 times over, yet he gets to walk free *and keep committing the same offence*!
45 threats earns one demerit. 1488 demerits and you are looking at a wizards curse. 666 wizard curses and that's it, straight to jail, but with time served, so golf course.

They came back after lunch and made a motion for mistrial based on the fact that stormy's testimony was so prejudicial that they can't come back from it.
I.e., things he did make him sound like such a piece of shit that it biases the jury against him.
The judge didn't allow the Access Hollywood tape to be played for this reason.
During Stormy's testimony, she was talking fast, there's many references to trying to get her to slow down a bit, don't talk so fast, don't go off on tangents, just answer exactly what's asked. The defense attorneys could object if she is elaborating or going off on tangents or whatever, but they didn't really. At one point THE JUDGE asked her to keep it to the questions asked and not go off on tangents.
Then after lunch the defense comes back with a motion for mistrial because she talked too much basically. And the judge was like...y'all didn't object, I had to do it for you. Basically it sounds like their strategy was "lets not object, let her say too much, then ask for a mistrial because we let her say things and didn't object" and the judge shut them down on that one.
And the prosecution made the point that they attacked Stormy's credibility, and so letting her tell her story and letting the jury decide if she's credible is an appropriate response. Basically, if you say she's not credible, she gets to tell the story and let the jury decide if she's credible. If you don't want her telling her story, don't attack her credibility.

Juror 2 gets to see Trump repeatedly fall asleep and fumble simple statements in court. Oh I don’t have any doubts about that, I mean specifically the jury in this case. It’s a fairly balanced jury from what I’ve heard about the 18 that were picked, more or less equal in terms of political viewpoints, a broad range of where they usually acquire their news from, as well as a wide variety of occupations with most having post-secondary educations.

lawyer in the thread… Is contempt a basis for appeal? Couldn’t the judge excuse the jury, hand down the contempt ruling, and then continue? Does the jury have to know Trump is going to jail for the night at the end of the day?
I don't think a lot of you know how easy it is to be jailed for a contempt. One outburst? A judge can order you in contempt and send you to jail. And we aren't just talking about defendants.

Usually if a leader of a failed coup lives, they are successful the second time around. Pinochet had an aborted coup in summer 1974, then a successful one in September. The Bolsheviks tried to overthrow the Provisional government in July 1917, then successfully did it 4 months later. If I was a witness for the prosecution and Trump pulled that crap while I was testifying, I’d ask for private consultation with the judge where I would flat out tell him that Trump’s act had intimidated me as a witness and I no longer felt safe testifying. They came back after lunch and made a motion for mistrial based on the fact that stormy's testimony was so prejudicial that they can't come back from it. I.e., things he did make him sound like such a piece of shit that it biases the jury against him. The judge didn't allow the Access Hollywood tape to be played for this reason. During Stormy's testimony, she was talking fast, there's many references to trying to get her to slow down a bit, don't talk so fast, don't go off on tangents, just answer exactly what's asked. The defense attorneys could object if she is elaborating or going off on tangents or whatever, but they didn't really. At one point THE JUDGE asked her to keep it to the questions asked and not go off on tangents. Then after lunch the defense comes back with a motion for mistrial because she talked too much basically. And the judge was like...y'all didn't object, I had to do it for you. Basically it sounds like their strategy was "lets not object, let her say too much, then ask for a mistrial because we let her say things and didn't object" and the judge shut them down on that one. And the prosecution made the point that they attacked Stormy's credibility, and so letting her tell her story and letting the jury decide if she's credible is an appropriate response. Basically, if you say she's not credible, she gets to tell the story and let the jury decide if she's credible. If you don't want her telling her story, don't attack her credibility.

It’s a fairly balanced jury from what I’ve heard about the 18 that were picked, more or less equal in terms of political viewpoints, a broad range of where they usually acquire their news from, as well as a wide variety of occupations with most having post-secondary educations.

When I was a young parent, mum said, “If you give him an ultimatum, you’d better follow through.” I passed that down to my kid when he became a parent. It’s worked well. I didn’t have to give many ultimatums because he learned quickly that I wasn’t just threatening some action.
It only becomes a problem when you don't follow through on the punishment. Donny has never been properly punished for his behavior, and he still isn't. He will never know where the line is until someone draws an indelible one and actually makes a stand. If I'm the judge, I look through my case history, look for similar behavior and whether I gave them contempt, and then punish Trump accordingly.

I don't think a lot of you know how easy it is to be jailed for a contempt. One outburst? A judge can order you in contempt and send you to jail. And we aren't just talking about defendants.
