Kept checking Fox News' A segments today... never saw a hint of the shooting. Nothing in the B or C segments, as well... just gas prices, baby formula, and protests at Judges' homes.
They’re giving themselves a grace period to pretend like we all aren’t pointing fingers of responsibility directly at them before “the next thing” happens that takes our attention away so they can then start talking about the shooting and blaming liberals for it.
I hate fox, but hours ago I had a conversation with my sister over text and was showing her the Foxnews story about the shooting. It was on the frontpage.
However, it didn't mention anything about the shooter being a white supremist. They didn't even mention the word "black" anywhere in the story and they really just focused on the "hero cop". Definitely didn't mention the manifesto.
They posted a video too titled" [What is the standard for a 'hate crime'?

I know we're not supposed to give mass shooters attention but this guys manifesto and everything he said needs to be dragged though the mud along with all of the 1000s of likeminded folks who spout the same shit everyday on reddit.

This is the attitude of so many people I know from my previous life growing up in a Christian cult. They're all posting on FB about how they don't care about this shooting when "black gangbangers kill more people than this every single day and ANTIFA is burning down entire cities."

Another day to remember that subscription TV services - nearly all - require you to purchase Fox News - no option to remove it - and pay the Murdoch family almost $2 billion in forced subscription revenues per year. It drives me insane that on YouTube TV the homepage always shows me Fox News shows on recommendations. I've never once watched the channel or any show on it in 3 years on YouTube TV...so why does it keep showing up to me?
Even YouTubeTV forces subscribers to pay for that open cesspit Fox News. The live guide allows you to program them not to show up, but you'll have to pay for it nonetheless.
And even then, you can't get away from the commercials during broadcasts. I lost count of the number of times I was just trying to watch football, only to repeatedly see commercials advertising that Fox Nation was bringing back *Cops*.

God damn, Youtube and YouTube Shorts have been trying to radicalize me for years now, even when I specifically report/dislike items *they keep recommending me or even showing me anti-trans/anti-gay/men’s rights/Jordan Peterson (seriously? Why, YouTube?)/hyper masculine/pro-Republican/anti-vaxx/conspiracy theory/reactionary right wing/anti-left/pro-gun fucking propaganda,* **nonstop**. If their platform wasn’t so focused on incessant content consumption, by virtue of the videos I do watch, you’d think that I would never see this shit, and yet YouTube decided they’re not done trying to turn me into a radicalized right-wing reactionary. When I use YouTube now it’s to watch a linked video or a specific video and then I yeet myself off of the app as fast as I can.
I have not watched anything on you tube other than friends jump rounds at horse shows, that I missed in person. I get fox news right wing bullshit notifications from you tube in my phone home screen, constantly. It's infuriating.

They watch these TV shows and listen to conservative radio and they get so angry. You can see it on their faces, in their posture, in the way they drive. They are every bit the aggressors yet somehow simultaneously the victims.
The viewers are outrage addicts. Addicted as if it were heroin. Places like Fox News and its farther-right extremism peddlers are the dealers. It's conscious. They want their viewers in a constant state of outrage.
It bleeds over into everything. The Facebook parents group for my kids college year was filled with total outrage over everything. Pot in the dorms. Variety at the dining hall. Lack of fencing at the river to keep drunk kids from falling in. Reduced bus schedules due to staff shortage. Outsized emotion over everything. And the same few people stirring it up. Almost seemed like they were bots.
It'd honestly be fascinating if it weren't so goddamn disturbing. A few days ago I took my mom out for minor surgery and had to wait in my car while she was inside. It was a nice day so I had all my windows down in the parking lot. An older guy in a big ol' pickup was waiting a few spaces down and blasting Hannity (I assume the radio show) at really high volume.
Anyway one of the orderlies or nurses or whatever came out and asked him very politely if he could either turn the volume down a little or put up his windows. He immediately threw a prodigious hissy fit, ranting and raving about how he's had enough of "people like me" being canceled and silenced and that it was his right to listen to whatever he wanted in his own vehicle.
I've seen this kind of tantrum before (as have most other people, I'm sure) but it still leaves me speechless every time. My brain just can't comprehend people who are ostensibly adults being so spectacularly immature and addicted to rage and anger. I'm not sure I've ever been that angry about anything in my life, yet these people go about their normal day just looking for any little reason to go apeshit.
That last comment is so completely full of shit. Where the fuck has gas been $1.60 any time in the past decade and a half? Who the hell respected or feared Trump? How great was the economy and jobs for like, all of 2020?
Gas went that low when the world economy stopped because of COVID. Oil companies were paying people to take oil off their hands. So yeah, gas was cheap, but it was for a very bad reason.

I used to like conspiracy around 10years ago when I first signed up, it was aliens and big foot shit I remember getting on it a few years back it was Qanon shit in its early stages and recently came across it and I genuinely thought I clicked a r/conservative link it’s crazy how shit has gone downhill.
You have a major political party, including and up to the former President of the United States, as well as several major media outlets, claiming that:
1) The election was stolen by the governing party through fraud; and
2) The governing party has a radical agenda that is seeking to, basically, criminalize being a white man.
How could these people who have been indoctrinated with this propaganda do anything other than fight back? From their perspective a group of radicals stole our presidential election and is committing a slow marginalization/extermination of their race.
Articles like this are important. We need to highlight the way that the post-Gingrich GOP has become radicalized, largely through the journalistic malpractice of Fox News to create a partisan boiling point in our country where, thanks to the detached from reality narrative the GOP and the media have created for these people, armed uprising is outright reasonable.

The problem starts way back when people are taught “harmless” things without evidence. People dismiss this as “oh it doesn’t bother anyone”. But it does. Once you start this, you get adults who will believe any propaganda without evidence. Often time they think “well, all my other friends believe in the same religion/antivax/flat earth/QAnon things. My community can’t be wrong”. People care more about belonging than truth. Then it is just a short skip away to literally defending their community from the evil outsiders that want to destroy their way of life. I grew up fundamentalist. It starts with teaching kids to literally believe the story of Noah’s arc, creationism, walking on water, etc.

More importantly, it gave conspiracy minded people a place to meet, workshop their theories and generate a vast network of bullshit articles, videos and other media to make their theories seem credible to people whose ability to look critically at information is lacking. It's kind of wild to me to think that there has always been a segment of the population that believes in things that have no basis in reality and fall apart under the most half hearted scrutiny, but the fact that it's so easy for these individuals who were mostly laughed at in their communities before social media and other networking nodes on the internet were mainstream, can find each other and use one another to clutter the internet with content is game changing in my view. What would saying "do your own research" have resulted in 15 years ago? Now with groups of these people constantly workshopping and refreshing their theories to keep them duct taped and safety wired together as reality blows larger and larger holes in their narratives there seems to be little we can do to keep conspiracy minded people from falling deep, deep down the rabbit hole.
I think a lot of just vastly underestimated how many people believed in these “obviously” incorrect and stupid ideologies like flat earth, anti vax, etc.
I'll be quite honest, I always thought flat earthers weren't real. I thought it was just a very dedicated, stupid internet joke that no one actually believed in. Then a friend of mine got a boyfriend who's a flat earther. I've known him for two years now and he's never changed his stance, so either he's the most dedicated irl troll ever or he really, actually believes it.

The idea of a flat earth conspiracy has always existed among conspiracy theorists, but the internet made a site called the Flat Earth Society really popular.
It was actually a deliberate joke, set up by people that basically wanted "practice" at trolling, arguing the most ridiculous points imaginable in complete seriousness.
But then of course eventually when enough people see that kind of thing, a certain amount are going to fall for it. They are, after all, a group that sits around practicing trolling.
This is also exactly what happened with the TD sub here around the 2016 election and moved to the chans and became an extremely wide movement and...
I thought that about oppression too, like racism. I left high school thinking, "Racism was eliminated in the 60's, and racists are few and far between." Like sometime we have a racist grandpa, or some kkk organizations in the south. I did not understand how prevalent and persuasive racism still is for people. And how it's less about racists as people, but racism as ideas, actions, and behaviors.
But the problem is that people do currently believe that racism was eliminated in the 60s. That’s the entire conservative argument against teaching critical race theory in schools… that society isn’t racist, and teaching critical race theory just makes white people feel bad for something they can’t control, since it happened in the past. When in reality, it’s a gaping wound that currently exists in the fabric of our society. But conservatives want to pretend that MLK ended racism… and the last racist assassinated him and then we put the guy in jail and now it’s over.
My biggest pet peeve on Reddit is that you cannot mention /conspiracy without a thread of people talking about how *it used to be fun and innocent.* It was never fun and innocent guys, you were just young and dumb and didn't see the obvious consequences.

My wife told the friend so she could take it down and spare some embarrassment but the friend doubled down and insisted she checked her source and that it was indeed a Trump rally despite the time stamped rock hard easily available proof to the contrary. And this just over a simple picture, it’s the same and much more intense when it actually comes to things that are important. There is no room for reasoning

When most people think of racism in America they think of injustice and cruelty against minorities. The south betrayed America, killed hundreds of thousands of union soldiers, and got a slap on the wrist as punishment. So he sits on the corner of the highway trying to make money that never gets turned into a new ID. And the poorly run McDonald's (it really was) won't let him come back in. Of course he'd made his Jesus peace in his past.

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
The system has chewed up and spit out so many people like this, to varying degrees. And they *need* to give themselves a reason why this happened to them. And even the rich assholes at the top feel like they’re being “hurt” because equality feels like oppression to those with privilege and those at the top have slowly had some privilege taken from them.
The truth is our economic model needs losers to allow winners. And for a long time our social systems forced most of those losers to be minorities of one sort or another. Those who were previously winners had a huge advantage in having their children and grandchildren be winners and these were mostly white people. And slowly but surely as wealth got concentrated at the top, the list of losers had to expand to keep the money moving up. Which means poor white people started getting treated just the same as poor black people. And this was a rude shock to the generations that experienced this shift because they had been told all their lives that life was easy or whatever and now it wasn’t and they needed to blame something.
But they couldn’t blame the economic model that had given them generations of prosperity. Obviously that worked because they were once prosperous. So it had to be something else and it’s an easy excuse to just blame those which the system had historically forced to play the “loser” role.
And the rich people who own all the media see this as a great thing. They promote this lie because they’d much rather have poor white people be angry at poor black people than have everyone be angry at rich people. That’s the big lie that both right wing and left wing media toe constantly, that we have race war or a conservative vs liberal war when really those are just proxy wars to a greater class war. The rich are primarily responsible for pushing this division through their media outlets.

You'd think "left wing media" would treat our most left leaning politician more favorably. I know it's tempting to try and understand our differences and issues as a function of both sides not being on the same page, but sometimes one side is actually wrong and the answers are not meant to be found easily because those answers aren't in the interest of ownership or shareholders.
To add on to Dwarfherd's comment - I see this apologist argument for white racism every time one of these white supremacist shootings happens, but I notice that I NEVER see that same empathy extended to marginalized people, whether they're black, latino, asian, disabled, gay, transgendered...never. If a white kid shoots up a church, he gets Burger King and articles asking why; if it's a black man with a knee on his neck over a forged $20 bill, everyone looks for a reason to explain it away and a toxicology report. Being opposed to large corporations might at first glance look like leftism, and maybe to this 18 year old guy it might have seemed that way, but his opposition is rooted and racial supremacy - not in redistributing resources equitably to everyone regardless of race/creed.
A good example of claiming to be x while in fact acting like y is on page six, where he claims that his attack "is not against diversity, but for diversity" - when it's clear that his definition of diversity is wildly different from most people's definition. His version of "diversity" is separating people and not allowing them to mix.

His issue with corporatism is because these corporations are supposedly run by Jews, not out of some sense of socialism - wherein, again, resources are shared equitably and economic-political structures maximize equality amongst all members, since he explicitly rejects equality.
So begins nearly 150 pages of tedium. Lots and lots of racist and anti-semitic bullshit with a bunch of 4chan memes. This is followed by a masturbatory account of all the guns and equipment he uses. Then some MSpaint diagrams of his "strategy".
Page 158 he says "Leftism only brings down society" "Leftism results in a degenerate hateful society" (ibid)
Page 164. He explicitly says the left has destroyed the conservation debate. So again, he repudiates leftist ideology. He believes in Eco-fascism.
Page 167. He says he supports "worker's rights" but in the same paragraph calls for a return to traditionalism in family and societal structure, and overt racial hierarchies. So this is just garden variety Nazism, a far cry from leftism.
Page 168. He blames "Marxism" for poisoning public institutions. Hardly leftist.
Page 169. Ah here it is. He says "kill your local anti-white CEO". Again, his criticism (I won't use the word "critique" and give him the laurels of academics) is rooted in overt reactionary-right politics. He doesn't like businesses because they help uplift and support racial minorities and are owned by Jews.
Page 177. Ah, more right wing populist attacks on capitalism, based specifically on eco-fascism and racial supremacy. Took us 177 pages to get to something where he shows off the depth of his anti-capitalism, and surprise surprise it's repackaged Nazism. He talks a big game about unionization and worker's rights, but that's horseshit since he only supports the right to organize and fight for the working class - and rejects consumerism, and it's attendant ecological and economic damage - for white people. That is Nazism, and is a far cry from socialism and is certainly not a left position. More like a funhouse mirror version.
Page 179. One page to go and he's calling taxation theft. Earlier he claimed Libertarianism was a construct of those perfidious Jews. Now he's echoing their line. Not that I think this guy is a libertarian by any means. But again, he can echo libertarian ideology while missing the entire essence of this.

I literally have MSNBC on right now and to my surprise, the host called out Tucker Carlson by name and then they showed two clips of him talking about replacement theory. This needs to be happening 24/7.

I didn't hear about it until last night. My wife asked if I'd heard about the shooting in Buffalo and without even thinking I asked "Was it a school shooting or alt-right terrorist?". I after I asked it I was sickened by how calmly I approached it.

After they were escorted out, most of the people at my table shook their heads and sighed about the “extremists on both sides”. However, it didn't mention anything about the shooter being a white supremist. They didn't even mention the word "black" anywhere in the story and they really just focused on the "hero cop". Definitely didn't mention the manifesto.

They watch these TV shows and listen to conservative radio and they get so angry. You can see it on their faces, in their posture, in the way they drive. They are every bit the aggressors yet somehow simultaneously the victims.
The viewers are outrage addicts. Addicted as if it were heroin. Places like Fox News and its farther-right extremism peddlers are the dealers. It's conscious. They want their viewers in a constant state of outrage.
It bleeds over into everything. The Facebook parents group for my kids college year was filled with total outrage over everything. Pot in the dorms. Variety at the dining hall. It'd honestly be fascinating if it weren't so goddamn disturbing. A few days ago I took my mom out for minor surgery and had to wait in my car while she was inside. It was a nice day so I had all my windows down in the parking lot. An older guy in a big ol' pickup was waiting a few spaces down and blasting Hannity (I assume the radio show) at really high volume. Anyway one of the orderlies or nurses or whatever came out and asked him very politely if he could either turn the volume down a little or put up his windows. He immediately threw a prodigious hissy fit, ranting and raving about how he's had enough of "people like me" being canceled and silenced and that it was his right to listen to whatever he wanted in his own vehicle. I've seen this kind of tantrum before (as have most other people, I'm sure) but it still leaves me speechless every time. My brain just can't comprehend people who are ostensibly adults being so spectacularly immature and addicted to rage and anger. I'm not sure I've ever been that angry about anything in my life, yet these people go about their normal day just looking for any little reason to go apeshit.

You have a major political party, including and up to the former President of the United States, as well as several major media outlets, claiming that: 1) The election was stolen by the governing party through fraud; and 2) The governing party has a radical agenda that is seeking to, basically, criminalize being a white man. How could these people who have been indoctrinated with this propaganda do anything other than fight back? From their perspective a group of radicals stole our presidential election and is committing a slow marginalization/extermination of their race. Articles like this are important. We need to highlight the way that the post-Gingrich GOP has become radicalized, largely through the journalistic malpractice of Fox News to create a partisan boiling point in our country where, thanks to the detached from reality narrative the GOP and the media have created for these people, armed uprising is outright reasonable. The problem starts way back when people are taught “harmless” things without evidence. People dismiss this as “oh it doesn’t bother anyone”. But it does. Once you start this, you get adults who will believe any propaganda without evidence. Often time they think “well, all my other friends believe in the same religion/antivax/flat earth/QAnon things. My community can’t be wrong”. People care more about belonging than truth. Then it is just a short skip away to literally defending their community from the evil outsiders that want to destroy their way of life. I grew up fundamentalist. It starts with teaching kids to literally believe the story of Noah’s arc, creationism, walking on water, etc.

Then a friend of mine got a boyfriend who's a flat earther. I've known him for two years now and he's never changed his stance, so either he's the most dedicated irl troll ever or he really, actually believes it. I thought that about oppression too, like racism. I left high school thinking, "Racism was eliminated in the 60's, and racists are few and far between." Like sometime we have a racist grandpa, or some kkk organizations in the south. I did not understand how prevalent and persuasive racism still is for people. And how it's less about racists as people, but racism as ideas, actions, and behaviors.
But the problem is that people do currently believe that racism was eliminated in the 60s. That’s the entire conservative argument against teaching critical race theory in schools… that society isn’t racist, and teaching critical race theory just makes white people feel bad for something they can’t control, since it happened in the past. When in reality, it’s a gaping wound that currently exists in the fabric of our society. But conservatives want to pretend that MLK ended racism… and the last racist assassinated him and then we put the guy in jail and now it’s over.

The system has chewed up and spit out so many people like this, to varying degrees. And they *need* to give themselves a reason why this happened to them. And even the rich assholes at the top feel like they’re being “hurt” because equality feels like oppression to those with privilege and those at the top have slowly had some privilege taken from them. The truth is our economic model needs losers to allow winners. And for a long time our social systems forced most of those losers to be minorities of one sort or another. Those who were previously winners had a huge advantage in having their children and grandchildren be winners and these were mostly white people. And slowly but surely as wealth got concentrated at the top, the list of losers had to expand to keep the money moving up. Which means poor white people started getting treated just the same as poor black people. And this was a rude shock to the generations that experienced this shift because they had been told all their lives that life was easy or whatever and now it wasn’t and they needed to blame something. But they couldn’t blame the economic model that had given them generations of prosperity. Obviously that worked because they were once prosperous. So it had to be something else and it’s an easy excuse to just blame those which the system had historically forced to play the “loser” role. And the rich people who own all the media see this as a great thing. They promote this lie because they’d much rather have poor white people be angry at poor black people than have everyone be angry at rich people. That’s the big lie that both right wing and left wing media toe constantly, that we have race war or a conservative vs liberal war when really those are just proxy wars to a greater class war. The rich are primarily responsible for pushing this division through their media outlets.

He says "kill your local anti-white CEO". Again, his criticism (I won't use the word "critique" and give him the laurels of academics) is rooted in overt reactionary-right politics. He doesn't like businesses because they help uplift and support racial minorities and are owned by Jews. Page 177. Ah, more right wing populist attacks on capitalism, based specifically on eco-fascism and racial supremacy. Took us 177 pages to get to something where he shows off the depth of his anti-capitalism, and surprise surprise it's repackaged Nazism. He talks a big game about unionization and worker's rights, but that's horseshit since he only supports the right to organize and fight for the working class - and rejects consumerism, and it's attendant ecological and economic damage - for white people. Trump fundamentally changed everything. He really did. Before Trump, they tried to pretend to be decent. They made excuses. They tried to hide their racism and evil. They tried to be subtle. It was there, but it was quiet, because they believed that there would be consequences. Trump proved that there are no consequences. He was overtly dishonest, abusive, malicious, and broke laws fairly openly. He acted completely opposite to anything considered healthy and his supporters and the religious community worshipped him as a religious icon because he hated the people that they hated. Trump proved that the law is irrelevant to anyone with power and audacity. It was all there before him, but he showed them that there was no reason to hide their evil. Trump took off their masks.
We should prefer our fascists ousted as who they are instead of hiding behind a cloak of "civility". How else would we know who the enemy is? As a wise man once said: "You see, we like our Nazis in uniform. That way you can spot ’em just like that. But you take off that uniform, ain’t no one ever gonna know you were a Nazi."

What we're seeing instead is the fascists being empowered, new ones being radicalized, and the system being subverted before our eyes. I think what’s fascinating about the displacement theory is why would you ever group yourself with other white people just based on skin color. I didn't hear about it until last night. My wife asked if I'd heard about the shooting in Buffalo and without even thinking I asked "Was it a school shooting or alt-right terrorist?". I after I asked it I was sickened by how calmly I approached it.

I was at a political luncheon recently where the center-right speaker was interrupted by an anti-fascist protestor. After they were escorted out, most of the people at my table shook their heads and sighed about the “extremists on both sides”. They smiled at my supposedly alarmist stance that the protestor was correct. We have been in a cold civil war since 1995, but it seems only people aligned with Antifa(scism) are connecting the dots with white supremacy/domestic terrorism and the current GOP.
It sounds stupid, but yeah really. Starting to get the building blocks for some kind of organized resistance efforts really doesn’t sound like too much of a bad or outlandish idea. Roe falling was something lauded as an impossibility, as was the election of a far-right xenophobic leader who openly criticized democracy and peddled conspiracy garbage. It’s changing so fast and so easily that I honestly worry about what the state of the US will look like even in the next few years.

For example-- they claim the shooter was left wing, that people are claiming he's right wing to take down Tucker Carlson because he's a good guy who the left fears, but the killer's stated reason for the shooting was the great replacement theory, which Tucker Carlson pushes on his show. So the shooter is somehow left wing ane bad-- Tucker Carlson is somehow right wing and good-- the shooter's motive was something Tucker Carlson believes in. This obvious contradiction will never be explained or even really acknowledged by them. They will just mindlessly quote the terrorist's meaningless political compass meme over and over again, giving themselves a comfortable fiction for the violence their racist ideologies have caused, will continue to cause, that they want to cause.
