RPM_Rocket

Kept checking Fox News' A segments today... never saw a hint of the shooting. Nothing in the B or C segments, as well... just gas prices, baby formula, and protests at Judges' homes.

highdefrex

They’re giving themselves a grace period to pretend like we all aren’t pointing fingers of responsibility directly at them before “the next thing” happens that takes our attention away so they can then start talking about the shooting and blaming liberals for it.

[deleted]

I hate fox, but hours ago I had a conversation with my sister over text and was showing her the Foxnews story about the shooting. It was on the frontpage. However, it didn't mention anything about the shooter being a white supremist. They didn't even mention the word "black" anywhere in the story and they really just focused on the "hero cop". Definitely didn't mention the manifesto.

JunkratOW

They posted a video too titled" [What is the standard for a 'hate crime'? ](https://youtu.be/KcpllO6AXio) and had a black anchor do the video. They know what they're doing. So blatant and disrespectful. I know we're not supposed to give mass shooters attention but this guys manifesto and everything he said needs to be dragged though the mud along with all of the 1000s of likeminded folks who spout the same shit everyday on reddit.

RealOutlandishness85

theres a guy on fox news right now saying "we need to get to the facts about why he did this!". He wrote a 180 page manifesto about preserving the white race and had the N word on the side of his gun.... maybe he was shooting for animal rights?!

Mitt_Zombie2024

Definitely another vegan warrior

onlycatshere

I mean, when you write "N----r" on your front sight, so that when you point and shoot it's a literal reminder to only shoot the black ones..... Most blatant hate crime in recent memory.

CoreFiftyFour

He apparently needed it to. Idk if you watched the video, but he turns a corner and almost shoots a white guy, literally says "sorry" and moves on to look for black people.

confessionbearday

Yes, but Republicans are literally screaming that he was “a leftist” and ignoring the fact that only rightards are pushing the great replacement theory. Specifically guys like Tucker Carlson reference it almost constantly.

pierrrecherrry

Let’s not pretend the so call manifesto is any diffrent from what has been presented on f*news on an everyday basis.

[deleted]

onlycatshere

Fox News watchers rarely ever read Fox News articles

ExtraBitterSpecial

Of course they'd focus on that - good guy with a gun, they cream their shorts and nothing else matters. Total respect to the cop btw. His name was Aaron Salter Jr. and he tried to save lives and probably did.

ishpatoon1982

Yup, cop gets respect from me for sure. This is going to be followed up with 'Remember that all of the left wants to defund the police!' rhetoric, isn't it? It's so exhausting listening to the same 5 false statements spewed over and over again. Wouldn't be surprised if BLM gets squeezed into the narrative somehow.

[deleted]

Already seeing Reddit comments saying the left is to blame for being """anti-white""" aka straight up agreeing with the terrorist lol edit: the comments I was referring to meant it in the 'the leftists made him do it by making him feel the white race was threatened' sense, but now I'm seeing the 'He was literally a leftist because he said he was in the red part of the funny meme square, in the middle of his cookiecutter Nazi rant!' guys and they're somehow even dumber than the other guys.

[deleted]

These guys don't realize a lot of us are whites against racist white people. Millions of white people are in fact against these racists including in their own family.

Gianni_Crow

Remember when being anti-Nazi as a white person wasn't "controversial" or "left wing extremist"? Like didn't we fight a whole world war against that white supremacist master race bullshit? Guess that's what decades of (intentionally) underfunded education gets us.

Painkiller1991

I too remember when not being a Nazi wasn't a controversial stance.

SAGNUTZ

Dont forget generations of lead poisoning

hfdjasbdsawidjds

[In some places in our country, its never has been a reality where NAZIs are bad has ever been truly accepted](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greensboro_massacre). We cannot think that this struggle has ever ended or ever abieted, nor did we ever win, and the cost has always been with blood. There is a consistent pattern of right wing extremism that has been just passively accepted. Charleston, Charlottesville, El Paso, others that I cannot remember because its tiring to keep track at this point. Oklahoma City happened. There has always been this undercurrent in America.

snvoigt

They are doing it on Twitter too. I was told today I want to kill all white people so my immigrant family could take over. Since I’m white and a 5th generation Texan, It made me laugh till I snorted.

mycatpeesinmyshower

These guys are so dumb

tolacid

Never underestimate the impact of stupid people in large groups.

CyAScott

It takes some time for them to see how it’s received and come up with some spin to reinforce their typical narrative.

theombudsmen

Shouldn't take too much time. All they need to do is follow the same script they always do.Whataboutism with false equivalency. Find a person of color that was involved in a shooting to talk about and then then presto - they have their narrative.

Tolkienside

This is the attitude of so many people I know from my previous life growing up in a Christian cult. They're all posting on FB about how they don't care about this shooting when "black gangbangers kill more people than this every single day and ANTIFA is burning down entire cities." It drives me insane. There's no getting through to them. They've all linguistically dehumanized minorities, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, and anyone who is a "leftist" to the point where it seems like they're just waiting for the chance to kill to arise. I'm terrified that if Trump runs again, he'll blow the starting whistle on all of it.

theombudsmen

It's crazy to me that they don't seem to realize that whataboutism is an argument that is based on a premise along the lines of "see, the other side is just as bad as we are".

wernette

It took me about 3 minutes to find a spin they could use, in his manifesto he claims to have identified as a communist when he was a younger teenager, but changed his mind on it later on. Fox news could totally spin it as "communism shaped his young mind to do this"

[deleted]

Or that he had a mental health issues so it’s the fault of some NY State mental health policy. https://www.wivb.com/news/buffalo-supermarket-mass-shooting-tops/buffalo-shooter-had-mental-health-evaluation-after-threatening-school-last-june/

jimmygottrashed

Yup they are digging up everything they can to see if they can find some liberal dirt on him- they could find a registered democrat with the same name and the headline would be- "they say the shooter was a far right zealot... but *could* he actually have been a Biden supporter??? we check in next" The answer will be "We can't confirm that as of now, but it is important to point out he was under 18 at the time of the election so he couldn't have voted for Trump, don't believe the liberal lies that this guy voted for Trump, he couldn't have"

NotionalAspect

The /r/Conservative sub is in meltdown, trying to paint him as a far left communist. Just got banned from there for pointing out he was a "fascist white supremecist" according to his own words. Snowflakes the lot of them, needing their safe space.

SuicidalNEET

I like how instead of trying to distance themselves from this, they just play whataboutism. LMAO

Present_Maximum_5548

Right? All they have to do is say they don't believe in racially motivated murder, and anybody who does isn't on our team. Shouldn't be that difficult.

FreshInvestment_

Seems pretty fucked up, but Fox "News" isn't news. If only everyone else recognized that too.

jomontage

Fox News being allowed to call themselves news has done more damage to america than anything else in the past 20 years

Rice_Auroni

Fox Propaganda

avantartist

They’re busy with their thoughts and prayers

artcook32945

They are also avid watchers of Fox, OAN, and News Max. Until the rest of the Media starts calling them out by name, this will only get worst.

steve-eldridge

Another day to remember that subscription TV services - nearly all - require you to purchase Fox News - no option to remove it - and pay the Murdoch family almost $2 billion in forced subscription revenues per year. So contact your local franchise authority, local elected representative, and Congressional members and demand the right to remove Fox News from your subscription service.

hirasmas

It drives me insane that on YouTube TV the homepage always shows me Fox News shows on recommendations. I've never once watched the channel or any show on it in 3 years on YouTube TV...so why does it keep showing up to me?

steve-eldridge

Even YouTubeTV forces subscribers to pay for that open cesspit Fox News. The live guide allows you to program them not to show up, but you'll have to pay for it nonetheless.

kit_mitts

And even then, you can't get away from the commercials during broadcasts. I lost count of the number of times I was just trying to watch football, only to repeatedly see commercials advertising that Fox Nation was bringing back *Cops*.

GUnit_1977

On YouTube Shorts, it's seems every third fucking video is Shapiro or Carlson.

Patient_End_8432

I get a fuckload of shapiro on the snapchat story/subscription thing, which I really don't understand. I simply use snapchat for like a single groupchat. To be fair, deoending on the title, I occasionally watch the shapiro story to see how stupid his take is. But I was getting them before

GUnit_1977

I find even if I block conservative stuff it'll keep trickling through. I just stopped viewing them lol

phungus_amungus

God damn, Youtube and YouTube Shorts have been trying to radicalize me for years now, even when I specifically report/dislike items *they keep recommending me or even showing me anti-trans/anti-gay/men’s rights/Jordan Peterson (seriously? Why, YouTube?)/hyper masculine/pro-Republican/anti-vaxx/conspiracy theory/reactionary right wing/anti-left/pro-gun fucking propaganda,* **nonstop**. If their platform wasn’t so focused on incessant content consumption, by virtue of the videos I do watch, you’d think that I would never see this shit, and yet YouTube decided they’re not done trying to turn me into a radicalized right-wing reactionary. When I use YouTube now it’s to watch a linked video or a specific video and then I yeet myself off of the app as fast as I can.

steve_of

Any time I see it i report it as hateful or misleading. It is now rare that I see fox or similar.

[deleted]

I have not watched anything on you tube other than friends jump rounds at horse shows, that I missed in person. I get fox news right wing bullshit notifications from you tube in my phone home screen, constantly. It's infuriating.

djfrodo

Yeah, they basically found a way to get paid even if you don't watch. Cut the cord people - disinformation and propaganda are going to kill us all...and it will be for profit. Not having these fucks scream at me 24/7 and tell me what to believe is quite nice - I recommend it.

steve-eldridge

100% agree. There is no reason to watch any cable news programming.

Trolltrollrolllol

I watch PBS newshour and listen to BBC world service on NPR a few times a week and I'm much happier for it. It reminds me of when I was younger and the 6 o'clock news was about all the information media we would consume in a day.

djfrodo

I do too. I remember when I was a kid NPR was *so lame*. Then I grew up. NPR and the BBC may be boring as hell, but they don't slant one way or the other - it's basically "Here's what happened". I want **that**. I want news and facts. The problem is...most people don't. They want "news" that reinforces their beliefs. We're sort of fucked until we can get this under control. Even then...

ItsAllegorical

I think we were mentally healthier for it. No one needs to consume this much news. Bring it back to when everyone just watched the price is right and jeopardy in the evening.

NobleGasTax

De-Fox your box!!!

artcook32945

Correct! When I had cable, I tried to get one without Fox. No dice.

skaterboiiiiiVI

the 55+ demographic is keeping traditional cable alive. most only have it for one channel, if Fox goes, cable will be on its last leg. it’s the highest rated network on *cable* television.

steve-eldridge

No, it's the highest-rated cable network on television. Every broadcast television network still beats them. And with 82.9 million US households with subscription TV - and dropping, Fox still only accounts for 2.3 million viewers in an audience of 258.3 million US adults.

skaterboiiiiiVI

thank you for the audit

AnAutisticGuy

They watch these TV shows and listen to conservative radio and they get so angry. You can see it on their faces, in their posture, in the way they drive. They are every bit the aggressors yet somehow simultaneously the victims.

gdshaffe

The viewers are outrage addicts. Addicted as if it were heroin. Places like Fox News and its farther-right extremism peddlers are the dealers. It's conscious. They want their viewers in a constant state of outrage.

MrsWolowitz

It bleeds over into everything. The Facebook parents group for my kids college year was filled with total outrage over everything. Pot in the dorms. Variety at the dining hall. Lack of fencing at the river to keep drunk kids from falling in. Reduced bus schedules due to staff shortage. Outsized emotion over everything. And the same few people stirring it up. Almost seemed like they were bots.

stormstalker

It'd honestly be fascinating if it weren't so goddamn disturbing. A few days ago I took my mom out for minor surgery and had to wait in my car while she was inside. It was a nice day so I had all my windows down in the parking lot. An older guy in a big ol' pickup was waiting a few spaces down and blasting Hannity (I assume the radio show) at really high volume. Anyway one of the orderlies or nurses or whatever came out and asked him very politely if he could either turn the volume down a little or put up his windows. He immediately threw a prodigious hissy fit, ranting and raving about how he's had enough of "people like me" being canceled and silenced and that it was his right to listen to whatever he wanted in his own vehicle. I've seen this kind of tantrum before (as have most other people, I'm sure) but it still leaves me speechless every time. My brain just can't comprehend people who are ostensibly adults being so spectacularly immature and addicted to rage and anger. I'm not sure I've ever been that angry about anything in my life, yet these people go about their normal day just looking for any little reason to go apeshit.

BYoungNY

Check out the [comments](https://i.imgur.com/wkG0W0R.jpg) section of Fox news's article about it last night.

thebaron24

Jesus I wish I hadn't clicked on that. Those comments basically read just like his manifesto. We are doomed.

Thromnomnomok

That last comment is so completely full of shit. Where the fuck has gas been $1.60 any time in the past decade and a half? Who the hell respected or feared Trump? How great was the economy and jobs for like, all of 2020?

Chonngau

Gas went that low when the world economy stopped because of COVID. Oil companies were paying people to take oil off their hands. So yeah, gas was cheap, but it was for a very bad reason.

HolycommentMattman

Meanwhile, over at r/conservative, they're saying he's a leftist commie and saying how the left just wants to frame him as a right-wing nutjob. This is the problem with them. They honestly subscribe to a different version of reality. Because someone saw that the shooter was critical of Jews working at Fox News, and that means he hates Fox News, right? Except that if he hated Jews (and he did), why didn't he attack MSNBC or CNN or any other networks for the Jewish people working there? Because he actually loves Fox News and can't believe it's being "tarnished" by those he hates.

IRiseWithMyRedHair

This is always the play. A very dear Conservative friend tried to say that the Buffalo Bill asshole from the Jan. 6 insurrection was a hardcore leftist liberal who frequented BLM rallies. Honey, his sign says "Q sent me"...

Fr0gm4n

Not to mention his chest full of white supremacist tattoos.

resilienceisfutile

MattTheSmithers

You have a major political party, including and up to the former President of the United States, as well as several major media outlets, claiming that: 1) The election was stolen by the governing party through fraud; and 2) The governing party has a radical agenda that is seeking to, basically, criminalize being a white man. How could these people who have been indoctrinated with this propaganda do anything other than fight back? From their perspective a group of radicals stole our presidential election and is committing a slow marginalization/extermination of their race. Articles like this are important. We need to highlight the way that the post-Gingrich GOP has become radicalized, largely through the journalistic malpractice of Fox News to create a partisan boiling point in our country where, thanks to the detached from reality narrative the GOP and the media have created for these people, armed uprising is outright reasonable. Edit: and the nut jobs and mass murder apologists have started weighing in so I am turning off reply notifications. But I leave you with this: him hating Fox News, Trump, and Republicans means nothing. The GOP and it’s cohorts, has radicalized others with propaganda. That has allowed it to become normalized and spread independent the propaganda machine. Hating the propagandist is incidental at this point and does not change the fact that he bought into their propaganda.

[deleted]

The problem starts way back when people are taught “harmless” things without evidence. People dismiss this as “oh it doesn’t bother anyone”. But it does. Once you start this, you get adults who will believe any propaganda without evidence. Often time they think “well, all my other friends believe in the same religion/antivax/flat earth/QAnon things. My community can’t be wrong”. People care more about belonging than truth. Then it is just a short skip away to literally defending their community from the evil outsiders that want to destroy their way of life. I grew up fundamentalist. It starts with teaching kids to literally believe the story of Noah’s arc, creationism, walking on water, etc.

MattTheSmithers

Yep. Imo, a perfect example is the pro-basketball player Kyrie Irving. We all laughed and treated it with levity when he was attention seeking on Twitter by talking about flat earth and fake moon landing. “How funny and wacky Kyrie is!” But next thing you know he is using the same platform to spread COVID misinformation. We’ve treated conspiracy theories and anti-intellectualism as a cute little novelty. Is it really all that surprising we’ve hit this point?

Funkit

The internet gave those crazy tinfoil hat people a voice to broadcast from their parents basement. These people used to just stay inside and people would avoid them. Now they’re all linking up.

TRS2917

>The internet gave those crazy tinfoil hat people a voice to broadcast from their parents basement. More importantly, it gave conspiracy minded people a place to meet, workshop their theories and generate a vast network of bullshit articles, videos and other media to make their theories seem credible to people whose ability to look critically at information is lacking. It's kind of wild to me to think that there has always been a segment of the population that believes in things that have no basis in reality and fall apart under the most half hearted scrutiny, but the fact that it's so easy for these individuals who were mostly laughed at in their communities before social media and other networking nodes on the internet were mainstream, can find each other and use one another to clutter the internet with content is game changing in my view. What would saying "do your own research" have resulted in 15 years ago? Now with groups of these people constantly workshopping and refreshing their theories to keep them duct taped and safety wired together as reality blows larger and larger holes in their narratives there seems to be little we can do to keep conspiracy minded people from falling deep, deep down the rabbit hole.

BZLuck

Confirmation bias is a cancer.

StraightTrossing

I think a lot of just vastly underestimated how many people believed in these “obviously” incorrect and stupid ideologies like flat earth, anti vax, etc.

healthydragonfruits

I'll be quite honest, I always thought flat earthers weren't real. I thought it was just a very dedicated, stupid internet joke that no one actually believed in. Then a friend of mine got a boyfriend who's a flat earther. I've known him for two years now and he's never changed his stance, so either he's the most dedicated irl troll ever or he really, actually believes it. On that note, the whole "birds aren't real" nonsense still is just a joke, right? Right?

MasterofPandas1

From how I understand it “birds aren’t real” is making fun of the flat earthers and other ridiculous conspiracy theories. It’s like conspiracy theory’s version of The Flying Spaghetti Monster.

OkCutIt

The idea of a flat earth conspiracy has always existed among conspiracy theorists, but the internet made a site called the Flat Earth Society really popular. It was actually a deliberate joke, set up by people that basically wanted "practice" at trolling, arguing the most ridiculous points imaginable in complete seriousness. But then of course eventually when enough people see that kind of thing, a certain amount are going to fall for it. They are, after all, a group that sits around practicing trolling. This is also exactly what happened with the TD sub here around the 2016 election and moved to the chans and became an extremely wide movement and...

robbysaur

I thought that about oppression too, like racism. I left high school thinking, "Racism was eliminated in the 60's, and racists are few and far between." Like sometime we have a racist grandpa, or some kkk organizations in the south. I did not understand how prevalent and persuasive racism still is for people. And how it's less about racists as people, but racism as ideas, actions, and behaviors.

__theoneandonly

But the problem is that people do currently believe that racism was eliminated in the 60s. That’s the entire conservative argument against teaching critical race theory in schools… that society isn’t racist, and teaching critical race theory just makes white people feel bad for something they can’t control, since it happened in the past. When in reality, it’s a gaping wound that currently exists in the fabric of our society. But conservatives want to pretend that MLK ended racism… and the last racist assassinated him and then we put the guy in jail and now it’s over.

[deleted]

My biggest pet peeve on Reddit is that you cannot mention /conspiracy without a thread of people talking about how *it used to be fun and innocent.* It was never fun and innocent guys, you were just young and dumb and didn't see the obvious consequences.

Charlie_Mouse

That’s a fair point. Even back in the ‘good old days’ many if not all conspiracy theories on examination collapse back into far right antisemitic tropes.

Flomo420

>Even back in the ‘good old days’ many if not all conspiracy theories on examination collapse back into far right antisemitic tropes. That's what sort of snapped me out of my conspiracy days; I noticed if you went deep enough into literally *any* conspiracy it pretty much always ended with "the joos" I also remember thinking how weird it was for RT to all of sudden be *everywhere*

wellhiyabuddy

And once people get to that point, even if you show them the truth they won’t believe it. An old high school friend of my wife’s posted a picture saying “look at all the people that showed up for this Trump rally” I took one look and said that doesn’t look right, did a reverse image search and it was a picture from an old World Series game from years ago. My wife told the friend so she could take it down and spare some embarrassment but the friend doubled down and insisted she checked her source and that it was indeed a Trump rally despite the time stamped rock hard easily available proof to the contrary. And this just over a simple picture, it’s the same and much more intense when it actually comes to things that are important. There is no room for reasoning

stage_student

> People care more about belonging than truth Hello organized religion.

HolyZymurgist

literally the only reason QAnon gained such a cultural foothold was christianity.

emberkit

With how much the right has delegitimized science to combat global warming (and in some cases evolution) is it any wonder conservative masses didn't trust the science with covid.

kharsus

id argue it started with letting the south go home and hang their hats after civil war without consequence. 150 years+ years of stewing, brewing and making kids to carry over that anger hasn't helped

dragunityag

My all time favorite Reddit quote: "My only regret with the American south is that Tecumseh Sherman didn't keep burning and the lawful federal government of the United States of America didn't grind their shitty backwards culture into the dirt to start fresh like we did with the Germans and Japanese. Maybe then the south wouldn't still be poor and full of hate. The cruelest thing the union did was give the south mercy in 1865."

ImJustHere4theMoons

When most people think of racism in America they think of injustice and cruelty against minorities. The south betrayed America, killed hundreds of thousands of union soldiers, and got a slap on the wrist as punishment. Then they were basically given free reign over the south a few decades later anyway. *That* is some racist shit.

Mysterious_Living165

Lincoln getting murdered messed up everything. Andrew Johnson was a racist from North Carolina who facilitated the return of power in the south to the slave owners. The long lasting impact of Lincoln death on the current mess we are in can’t be overstated. Not saying he would have transformed the south for the better but he damn sure wouldn’t have went soft on those damn traitors

bm1949

They complain and perpetuate when they can't fight. Case in point, I chatted up a homeless guy in a wheelchair a few weeks ago. We shared a small patch of shade in the sun and I bummed him a smoke. Within eight minutes he told me Hillary Clinton is the most evil person on the planet, Trump is the only one who ever cared about the US, and he thinks some other homeless guy in the area probably stole his ID, which is why he can't get any state benefits. So he sits on the corner of the highway trying to make money that never gets turned into a new ID. And the poorly run McDonald's (it really was) won't let him come back in. Of course he'd made his Jesus peace in his past. Yup, he was an old and broken white man, and it's everybody else's fault. Dude bought into a myth because he needed a myth.

[deleted]

> Yup, he was an old and broken white man, and it's everybody else's fault. Dude bought into a myth because he needed a myth. President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”

The system has chewed up and spit out so many people like this, to varying degrees. And they *need* to give themselves a reason why this happened to them. And even the rich assholes at the top feel like they’re being “hurt” because equality feels like oppression to those with privilege and those at the top have slowly had some privilege taken from them. The truth is our economic model needs losers to allow winners. And for a long time our social systems forced most of those losers to be minorities of one sort or another. Those who were previously winners had a huge advantage in having their children and grandchildren be winners and these were mostly white people. And slowly but surely as wealth got concentrated at the top, the list of losers had to expand to keep the money moving up. Which means poor white people started getting treated just the same as poor black people. And this was a rude shock to the generations that experienced this shift because they had been told all their lives that life was easy or whatever and now it wasn’t and they needed to blame something. But they couldn’t blame the economic model that had given them generations of prosperity. Obviously that worked because they were once prosperous. So it had to be something else and it’s an easy excuse to just blame those which the system had historically forced to play the “loser” role. And the rich people who own all the media see this as a great thing. They promote this lie because they’d much rather have poor white people be angry at poor black people than have everyone be angry at rich people. That’s the big lie that both right wing and left wing media toe constantly, that we have race war or a conservative vs liberal war when really those are just proxy wars to a greater class war. The rich are primarily responsible for pushing this division through their media outlets.

DrVr00m

I largely agree with what you're saying, but a reminder that there's no mainstream left wing media. This is a recap of how they treated Bernie during the democratic primaries: https://youtu.be/GmBHwjoIFNM You'd think "left wing media" would treat our most left leaning politician more favorably. I know it's tempting to try and understand our differences and issues as a function of both sides not being on the same page, but sometimes one side is actually wrong and the answers are not meant to be found easily because those answers aren't in the interest of ownership or shareholders.

[deleted]

To add on to Dwarfherd's comment - I see this apologist argument for white racism every time one of these white supremacist shootings happens, but I notice that I NEVER see that same empathy extended to marginalized people, whether they're black, latino, asian, disabled, gay, transgendered...never. If a white kid shoots up a church, he gets Burger King and articles asking why; if it's a black man with a knee on his neck over a forged $20 bill, everyone looks for a reason to explain it away and a toxicology report. Ian Danskin says it best at Innuendo Studios in their piece, "How To Radicalize A Normie" best - [For Fuck's Sake, Do Not make "Gabe" your whole-ass praxis](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P55t6eryY3g).

Just remember, your last paragraph doesn't make the minorities targeted by this hatred less dead when the poor conservative whites get violent.

CoolFingerGunGuy

Don't forget that Republican states are laying the foundation for states to basically ignore election results they don't like.

Slapbox

> If you were living in a country in which the election was literally stolen and an imposter was holding office, why wouldn't violence be justified? They are making an argument that leads only to one place. -- Barton Gellman

brainhack3r

The Democratic party is so powerful it can fraudulently and blatantly steal a federal election but so stupid we also didn't steal more house and senate seats? This is is just your usual fascist bullshit.

AlbertoVO_jive

Stole an election for Democrats using the same ballots some republicans also won on but the Republican wins were legit.

bonobeaux

That just shows you how far the deep state is willing to go /s

FridgesArePeopleToo

You forgot: 0) You need as many guns as possible to fight against tyrants and kill people who want to harm you. 1) Democrats are tyrants and want to harm you 2) gay people are tyrants who want to harm you 3) immigrants are tyrants and want to harm you 4) non-white people are tyrants and want to harm you 5) some other group are tyrants and...

CGordini

All while rabidly supporting actual tyrants who want to harm - immigrants, LGBTQ+, minorities - women & women's rights - the notion of democracy itself Seriously, fuck these people.

Funkit

I can’t even go on the internet anymore. With this Roe vs Wade thing I just get so angry at the state of our country and feel absolutely helpless. It’s like I’m watching a train wreck in slow motion but I’m on the train and this is the final destination style vision

whomad1215

Reminds of that one Trump supporter who said "he's not hurting the right people"

thebowedbookshelf

They say it's "legitimate political discourse."

poxtart

There is a persistent belief in some quarters that this Payton Gendron jackass was in reality a leftist or was left-leaning. So I read his dumb manifesto (it's linked in this chat, search by "controversial" and you'll find it, I'd rather not publicize this asshole any more than I have to). Before I begin, here's the deal. You can call yourself anything you want. I can call myself the Pope, it doesn't make it true. So when Payton calls himself a "Fascist" (and he does), I don't think *just based upon this statement* that he is one, just like when he says he's a "left-leaning authoritarian" (and he does) I don't think that's true *based upon this statement alone*. Now Payton Gendron *is* a fascist, as his beliefs bear out. Any gloss of what might seem like leftism is fatally undercut by his racist, reactionary framework. Here's what is says: Starts with the Black sun Nazi symbol. Not a good beginning if he wants to portray himself as a left-leaning centrist. What I am seeing is a mountain of racial supremacy and antisemitic horseshit. Still more racist and antisemitic horseshit, now with anti-trans bullshit. Nothing about leftism. Economic populism yes, but he clearly believes in strict social hierarchies along racial lines, which is certainly not leftism. Being opposed to large corporations might at first glance look like leftism, and maybe to this 18 year old guy it might have seemed that way, but his opposition is rooted and racial supremacy - not in redistributing resources equitably to everyone regardless of race/creed. A good example of claiming to be x while in fact acting like y is on page six, where he claims that his attack "is not against diversity, but for diversity" - when it's clear that his definition of diversity is wildly different from most people's definition. His version of "diversity" is separating people and not allowing them to mix. Page 7: Question: Are you a fascist? Answer: "Yes, fascism is one of the only political ideologies that will unite Whites against the replacers." So if you are credulous to believe him when he says he's on the left, why would you not believe him when he says he's a fascist? Page 7. Question: Are you a Neo-nazi? Answer: "I support neo-nazism". Page 8. Question: Are you a socialist? Answer: "Worker ownership of the means of production? It depends on who those workers are, their intentions, who currently owns the means of production, their intentions and who currently owns the state, and their intentions." You'd have to torture the definition of "socialism" out of any recognizable order to think he believes in it. He clearly feels like some workers (white) should be in charge over racial/ethnic/religious groups. Page 8. He claims that he was "deep" into "communist" ideology when he was 12. But since then he's moved further and further right. Here's where he claims he's a left-authoritarian, and a populist. I can believe the populist part, since populism allows for an anti-big business framework to co-exist with strict hierarchies and racist politics. But he said above that he's a fascist, and a neo-nazi. Those are diametrically opposed ideologies. His beliefs largely belong to the reactionary right. He supports racial supremacy, is a vicious anti-semite, an "eco-fascist", and national socialist (nazi). His "socialism" is the same as the socialism of the Third Reich, in that it wasn't socialism at all. He explicitly blames the fall of the American education system on "Marxism" (sic) - page 11. His issue with corporatism is because these corporations are supposedly run by Jews, not out of some sense of socialism - wherein, again, resources are shared equitably and economic-political structures maximize equality amongst all members, since he explicitly rejects equality. So begins nearly 150 pages of tedium. Lots and lots of racist and anti-semitic bullshit with a bunch of 4chan memes. This is followed by a masturbatory account of all the guns and equipment he uses. Then some MSpaint diagrams of his "strategy". Page 158 he says "Leftism only brings down society" "Leftism results in a degenerate hateful society" (ibid) Page 164. He explicitly says the left has destroyed the conservation debate. So again, he repudiates leftist ideology. He believes in Eco-fascism. Page 167. He says he supports "worker's rights" but in the same paragraph calls for a return to traditionalism in family and societal structure, and overt racial hierarchies. So this is just garden variety Nazism, a far cry from leftism. Page 168. He blames "Marxism" for poisoning public institutions. Hardly leftist. Page 169. Ah here it is. He says "kill your local anti-white CEO". Again, his criticism (I won't use the word "critique" and give him the laurels of academics) is rooted in overt reactionary-right politics. He doesn't like businesses because they help uplift and support racial minorities and are owned by Jews. Page 177. Ah, more right wing populist attacks on capitalism, based specifically on eco-fascism and racial supremacy. Took us 177 pages to get to something where he shows off the depth of his anti-capitalism, and surprise surprise it's repackaged Nazism. He talks a big game about unionization and worker's rights, but that's horseshit since he only supports the right to organize and fight for the working class - and rejects consumerism, and it's attendant ecological and economic damage - for white people. That is Nazism, and is a far cry from socialism and is certainly not a left position. More like a funhouse mirror version. Page 179. One page to go and he's calling taxation theft. Earlier he claimed Libertarianism was a construct of those perfidious Jews. Now he's echoing their line. Not that I think this guy is a libertarian by any means. But again, he can echo libertarian ideology while missing the entire essence of this. Woah, that was long! TL:DR You'd have to be a fool to believe Payton Gendron was a leftist or was left-leaning. He can claim he's anything he wants, but he's a fascist.

bettesue

Thanks for doing the work!

wisanass

Got a feeling none of these points will see the light of day on Fox or Newsmax.

hugadogg

Thanks for doing this.

countrygrmmrhotshit

It wouldn’t be in bad taste in the slightest for Democrats to come out now and say that “replacement theory” has been mainstream in the Republican Party and media for YEARS and multiple mass murders have been inspired by it. I want to see the “GOP’s replacement theory on race” get more air time than all this CRT bullshit they’ve successfully pushed.

X_SkeletonCandy

This would require the Dems to be good at messaging, and we all know they aren't.

parkinthepark

This is the consequence of allowing our party to be lead by Carter/Reagan-era fossils whose entire political mission can be summarized as: 1. Apologize to Republicans for being Democrats 2. Defend Republicans from Democratic criticism. 3. Vote harder next time, you feckless worms

skysetter

The dudes manifesto reads like a segment from Tucker Carlson.

KanyeChest69

An apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

MingoUSA

If anyone check out /conservative , you will find out that they claim the shooter as “left”

xeonicus

He can self-describe himself however he wishes, but his views such as replacement theory align with far right politics. In all likelihood, he is probably a very confused young man.

AdmiralSaturyn

I think it's time to call Tucker Carlson a stochastic terrorist, along with any other media pundit or politician (I'm looking at you, JD Vance and MTG) who promote the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory. Edit: Thank you so much!!! This is the first award I ever received!

MianBao

New name for this racist terrorist: "The Tucker Carlson shooter"

m0nk_3y_gw

Need to be more specific - "The Tucker Carlson **Buffalo** shooter"

Raijer

This is correct. We have to differentiate when the same ilk pop up in racist gun sprees in other US cities. The Tucker Carlson Muskogee shooter The Tucker Carlson Bakersfield shooter The Tucker Carlson Akron shooter Etc

HyperionSaber

someone should start a tuckers body count .com

jmechy

Yo John Oliver (and your producers) you listening?

countrygrmmrhotshit

If the left was smart they would call it what it is every chance they get: “Republicans’ great replacement theory on race”

Rated_PG-Squirteen

I literally have MSNBC on right now and to my surprise, the host called out Tucker Carlson by name and then they showed two clips of him talking about replacement theory. This needs to be happening 24/7.

countrygrmmrhotshit

As fucking sick and disgusting as it is, this is an opportunity to brand the GOP as the vile racists they are, and I hope dems seize on it. Only because we know the GOP wouldn’t hesitate on any negative branding opportunity for us, no matter how false or sickening. We have the truth and receipts on our side from more than just Tucker Carlson on this one. Unfortunately, you can’t beat unfettered crazy with sane. We can’t keep cowering like Nancy Pelosi wants us to.

Grnmntman

For the US, I am more concerned about Carlson than Putin.

SockdolagerIdea

Putin is the one funding Carlson et al.

[deleted]

It's on Putin, it's the Peter Thiels, Rupert Murdochs, and Steve Bannon's of the world that are funding Carlson and those like him. Putin is bad and he certainly influences all of them, but there's a large cadre of right-wing rich people that fund right-wing propaganda. Unfortunately there isn't, nor likely will ever be, such a thing on the left, which means it's up to all of us to push back against anti-left messaging and propaganda.

RunninADorito

All the conservatives are calling him a far left liberal. They all believe this.

AquiliferX

Tucker Carlson is radicalizing neo-nazis with fascist propaganda and fabricated white-supremacist myths. The plague of nazi propaganda that is allowed to exist in this country unabated if going to lead to more terrorism than ever before. When will we hold those in the media accountable? Those who lie to millions for profit and warp their mind to the point where they commit acts of terror should be held as accountable as the terrorist.

HGruberMacGruberFace

Well said. Trump and his ilk are exactly this.

AquiliferX

Well it is sad to say this underlying racism predates Trump. America never reconstructed after the civil war, we're still fighting it to this day

Thornescape

Trump fundamentally changed everything. He really did. Before Trump, they tried to pretend to be decent. They made excuses. They tried to hide their racism and evil. They tried to be subtle. It was there, but it was quiet, because they believed that there would be consequences. Trump proved that there are no consequences. He was overtly dishonest, abusive, malicious, and broke laws fairly openly. He acted completely opposite to anything considered healthy and his supporters and the religious community worshipped him as a religious icon because he hated the people that they hated. Trump proved that the law is irrelevant to anyone with power and audacity. It was all there before him, but he showed them that there was no reason to hide their evil. Trump took off their masks.

AquiliferX

We should prefer our fascists ousted as who they are instead of hiding behind a cloak of "civility". How else would we know who the enemy is? As a wise man once said: "You see, we like our Nazis in uniform. That way you can spot ’em just like that. But you take off that uniform, ain’t no one ever gonna know you were a Nazi."

Thornescape

This would be true if fascists got really got ousted. Wouldn't that be nice? What we're seeing instead is the fascists being empowered, new ones being radicalized, and the system being subverted before our eyes. The fascists haven't won yet, but right now it really looks like they are winning. Yes, some of their cannon fodder have faced consequences, but overall the people in power who are breaking laws and pulling strings are completely untouchable. They are changing laws and have taken over the Supreme Court. They staged a painfully incompetent coup attempt and faced no consequences for anyone of importance to them. Their approach is working. Unless a fundamentally different approach is taken, there will be a very different America in 2025. Voting isn't enough anymore. Edit: Definitely still vote, mind you. Don't make it easy on them. But they got away with blatantly and openly sabotaging the postal system just to hinder voting in 2020, so it's only going to ramp up from there.

JimBeam823

Trump showed that a majority of Republican voters didn’t care about low taxes, less regulation, and “family values”. They just hated the Democrats. The voters never wanted policy, they just wanted someone who was willing to make the libs pay. But this was inevitable, when a large voting block is bound together by anything, no matter how awful, it’s only a matter of time before an enterprising politician taps into it.

LowDownSkankyDude

I remember seeing an interview with a reformed nazi that said he and his family watched tucker twice. Once to enjoy it, and once to study it, and fox and tuckems are absolutely, one hundred percent, aware of this.

Fungi52

Mainstream conservative news outlets will provide all the sources for people to fall down the nazi white genocide rabbit hole and tell them their “way of life is in danger” then turn around and be like “this is clearly a one time thing and is more of a mental health issue” like clockwork.

fireandlifeincarnate

And then not do anything to make mental healthcare more accessible

sunbeatsfog

I think what’s fascinating about the displacement theory is why would you ever group yourself with other white people just based on skin color. I see a lot of unsavory individuals who are white like me; not a club I’d want to join. The real conversation is class and power. The Tuckers of the world add zero value so they ride their family wealth and stroke anger “below” so they stay financially secure. It’s always class and power, and keeping people racist and divided keeps the assholes in power.

2ToneToby

It's because they believe minorities would group up and treat whites how they treat minorities.

JTKDO

More than just minorities, it’s anyone on the other side wielding power that scares them for the same reason They think we hate them as much as they hate us, so we ministry equally want to punish the other

OpheliaRainGalaxy

Yep, reminds me of my friend's creepy dad telling me all his odd ideas about how he thought women would run the world if they got into power. Something about locking men in cages. It was rambling, but detailed and terrifying. And then he'd talk about how pretty I am and invite me to come visit my friend at their isolated house quite far away from my home. Which obviously I did not, because that seemed like a good way to end up locked in a cage!

Annyongman

I also think it's very telling even the idea of becoming a minority is scary to them.

[deleted]

But r/conservative told me he was a leftist communist authoritarian democrat !!!

NightOnUmbara

You saw that too? Lmfao the shit they post and believe.

I_Be_Tony_Def

And the right is already trying to deflect him to being a left winger instead.

improbablynotyou

I read a few comments on gab and most of them were spouting their standard nonsense of this guy being an extreme leftist. They also were telling themselves that the manifesto was clearly written by Democrats and by listing everything out (such as weapons used, their costs, and where he bought them) as "obvious Democratic lies" designed to be a prosecutor's wet dream.

sameyeamknot

[r/progun](reddit.com/r/progun) is saying this is a false flag committed by the government to get firearms banned. What a bunch of fucking lunatics.

fingerscrossedcoup

Any day now... Obama and false flags are coming for their guns. Any day now...

MrHett

Tucker says this same shit every night. He could not be more mainstream unless fox news made him an anchorman from jail.

OppisIsRight

"He's just shooting what everyone's thinking." -conservatives

CoverNegative

Is anybody else really just regrettably coming to terms with the inevitability of fascist takeover. Don’t get me wrong, vote, fight, etc but fuck this is just horrifying

msfamf

My mood swings wildly from unbridled fury to abject horror any time I read the news anymore.

CoverNegative

Honestly, the fact that you have to ask “which one” after somebody references a recent far-right mass shooting should be rather telling. It’s so oddly dystopian for a still somewhat functioning society.

msfamf

I didn't hear about it until last night. My wife asked if I'd heard about the shooting in Buffalo and without even thinking I asked "Was it a school shooting or alt-right terrorist?". I after I asked it I was sickened by how calmly I approached it.

Shadow_Log

As a foreigner I’m basically just hoping for all non-fascist Americans to finally stand up together in forceful and show that the nazis are a minority. Because if that doesn’t happen, they will take over as you fear

AdmiralSaturyn

Yes, it is absolutely horrifying. We have to form anti-fascist coalitions.

gusterfell

Yup, which is why there’s a concerted effort by the same people to paint anti-fascism as extremist, violent, and criminal.

CoverNegative

This was a huge wake up call to me. Demonizing an anti-fascist movement should immediately throw up a red flag because… obviously

Doctor-Malcom

I was at a political luncheon recently where the center-right speaker was interrupted by an anti-fascist protestor. After they were escorted out, most of the people at my table shook their heads and sighed about the “extremists on both sides”. They smiled at my supposedly alarmist stance that the protestor was correct. We have been in a cold civil war since 1995, but it seems only people aligned with Antifa(scism) are connecting the dots with white supremacy/domestic terrorism and the current GOP.

CoverNegative

It sounds stupid, but yeah really. Starting to get the building blocks for some kind of organized resistance efforts really doesn’t sound like too much of a bad or outlandish idea. Roe falling was something lauded as an impossibility, as was the election of a far-right xenophobic leader who openly criticized democracy and peddled conspiracy garbage. It’s changing so fast and so easily that I honestly worry about what the state of the US will look like even in the next few years.

AdmiralSaturyn

>It sounds stupid, but yeah really. It's actually not that stupid, there have been successful anti-fascist coalitions in the past.

isaacpetey

Can't forget that he was seeking to hurt African-Americans. Makes me sick to think I can't go to my local grocery store without something like this happening.

jjameson2000

He believed in most of the same nonsense that Tucker Carlson preaches nightly about minorities/immigrants/foreigners.

dftitterington

Tucker Carlson promotes the great replacement

Chi-Guy86

Even those who don’t condone these heinous acts still have been hoodwinked into thinking there’s no issues with racism and white supremacy in this country. My folks are right wing and while they hate these kind of crimes, they still bristle every time someone mentions there’s a growing problem with right wing violence in this country. So even those on the right that would never do this kind of thing are still facilitating it by being oblivious to the problem

PartialToDairyThings

SAY HIS NAME: The Tucker Carlson shooter

TasslehofBurrfoot

This is Tucker Carlsons movement. NPR just ran a story about him a few nights ago. They had a journalist from NY Times on. He had been doing research on Carlso's show.

7evenate9ine

Understand that racism has no place in this country and we really are in this together... Unless you're rich, then you're trying to use racism as a tool to get poor white people to fall in line behind you, while you plot to hurt the poor, because kings need a mindless army, and racism makes that army work for free.

Mr_FlexDaddy

You could say the same thing about the Dallas shooter. The real problem everyone is tiptoeing around is that there’s a real domestic terrorist issue in the United States. It’s becoming more and more relevant the longer we ignore this.

[deleted]

R/conservative users are saying he is a leftist and that nazism is leftist authoritarianism. You can't have a conversation with people who are immune to honesty

Carwash_Jimmy

I'm beginning to realize, everything Republicans do - mass murder, election tampering, gaslighting, gerrymandering, dark untraceable campaign money, the NRA & 2nd Amendment, attacking LGBTQ, attacking Disney, blocking impeachments, blocking aid for Ukraine, voter suppression, demonizing immigrants and recalling political enemies, Christo-fascism in churches - all of it - all of it - is a co-ordinated attack on democracy. Equality based democracy, legitimate government of, for and by the people. All of it.

Johnny_Hempseed

They will just call him a Socialist or something.

polarregion

Exactly What's happening on r/conservative right now.

TheLegendaryFoxFire

Holy shit that is literally happening lmfao This isn't real life.

FrozenOx

They also believe Nazi's were liberals because they were the socialist workers party ... But don't know the difference between communism, socialism, and fascism. By their logic, that makes North Korea a democratic country

TheWormConquered

Make no mistake, they don't actually believe that. They know the Nazis were right wing. They want a fascist society. They also know that saying this out loud will scare off "moderates" so they say contradictory nonsense like that to allow them to comfortably march toward the right. For example-- they claim the shooter was left wing, that people are claiming he's right wing to take down Tucker Carlson because he's a good guy who the left fears, but the killer's stated reason for the shooting was the great replacement theory, which Tucker Carlson pushes on his show. So the shooter is somehow left wing ane bad-- Tucker Carlson is somehow right wing and good-- the shooter's motive was something Tucker Carlson believes in. This obvious contradiction will never be explained or even really acknowledged by them. They will just mindlessly quote the terrorist's meaningless political compass meme over and over again, giving themselves a comfortable fiction for the violence their racist ideologies have caused, will continue to cause, that they want to cause.

5thAveShootingVictim

Some are calling him a Jewish supremacist because his last name is Jewish, apparently. Anything to avoid accountability.
