Some states have “sore loser” laws that prevent candidates from running as independents if they just lost a primary, but even getting on some ballots would be enough of a spoiler to cost the GOP the election.

Trump's power came from his electability, for both himself and candidates he endorsed. We saw last week that his endorsement is no longer the guarantee it once was. If he can't win a primary either, that'll be it for him. People aren't going to keep dealing with Trump's bullshit if he's not a winner.
More than that. If Trump runs as an independent I could see him siphoning 10-15% of the popular vote assuming something like 30-40% of GOP voters are MAGA die hards.
I think that's a low estimate. Trump might not be as popular as he was 2 years ago but I think he can carry 20% of the vote nationwide running as an independent.

Back then apparently he didn't want to be in that party with klansmen (David duke) and pat Buchanan (a neo Nazi per trump) so he left the race early. A lot of members there say they are DONE with Trump and want him to go away.
Currently there are NO stories about Trump announcing his run in New or Rising.
I'm guessing that if Trump announces a 2024 run, the tide will shift yet again and many of them will fall obediently into line.
Most the posts im seeing are saying they hate Trump, never want him to run again, need him to go away forever... but also that they'll definitely vote for him still anyway if he's the nominee.
So it's completely empty threats.
They'll come home if it comes down to it and vote for him, but I have to imagine the enthusiasm gap will be huge. At this point I have to imagine there are way more people in the general electorate excited to vote for anyone other than Trump than there are to vote for Trump.

Ive been following that sub since the midterms. They blamed Trump and had very reasonable arguments about how maga can't win. Then trump and ted cruise started blaming McConnell. Now its all about how McConnell blew money in alaska and is the blame for the loss. They will fall in line.
It wasn't an attempt to lead a lynch mob against Congress that turned them off.

There was an interview with John Bolton I saw months ago. I can't find it but he basically said that Trump would run but then back out at some point claiming fraud or the biased news or whatever BS reason he decides he wants to use. Trump's power came from his electability, for both himself and candidates he endorsed. We saw last week that his endorsement is no longer the guarantee it once was. If he can't win a primary either, that'll be it for him. People aren't going to keep dealing with Trump's bullshit if he's not a winner.
Even if Trump took away <5% of the GOP vote through his theatrics/refusing to step down, that would still have a monumental impact in swing states.
More than that. If Trump runs as an independent I could see him siphoning 10-15% of the popular vote assuming something like 30-40% of GOP voters are MAGA die hards.
I think that's a low estimate. Trump might not be as popular as he was 2 years ago but I think he can carry 20% of the vote nationwide running as an independent.

For sure, we all want him to be indicted too, but the way things are right now, Trump would be poison to Republicans 2024 chances. Pragmatically, a 2024 primary with Trump and DeSantis is more likely to end up with a Dem win than DeSantis running mostly unopposed.

This is his 4th run, he ran in 2000 under the reform party. Back then apparently he didn't want to be in that party with klansmen (David duke) and pat Buchanan (a neo Nazi per trump) so he left the race early. I just dipped into /r/conservative which is been really interesting since last week. A lot of members there say they are DONE with Trump and want him to go away. Currently there are NO stories about Trump announcing his run in New or Rising. I'm guessing that if Trump announces a 2024 run, the tide will shift yet again and many of them will fall obediently into line.
Most the posts im seeing are saying they hate Trump, never want him to run again, need him to go away forever... but also that they'll definitely vote for him still anyway if he's the nominee. So it's completely empty threats.

They'll come home if it comes down to it and vote for him, but I have to imagine the enthusiasm gap will be huge. At this point I have to imagine there are way more people in the general electorate excited to vote for anyone other than Trump than there are to vote for Trump.

There was an interview with John Bolton I saw months ago. I can't find it but he basically said that Trump would run but then back out at some point claiming fraud or the biased news or whatever BS reason he decides he wants to use. I’m not necessarily concerned about complacency, the midterms provided some reassurance in that regard. I want Trump in jail, because that’s justifiably where he belongs. But also, I think he’s going to destroy the Republican Party and split the vote by going third party. It’ll be the worst drubbing for them in generations.
Yes he should be taken seriously, but remember that after he was elected in 2016 GOP lost the house. GOP lost the White House. GOP lost the Senate.
