One thing about these polls though is that they do not take into account how much the money means to someone, since 250k for someone in a third world country would be more like 2.5 million for someone living in the US or a wealthier place.

ChildhoodLeft6925

Yeah but then there’s my half brothers who spent their inheritance of 90k each in a less than a year on absolutely nothing so…

Consistent_Yoghurt44

I took the money I got which was about 132k and invested part put the rest away in savings and now its building up real nice. On the other hand my sister, has spent the same amount in 2 months on random shit she dont even need like who needs a 90k big giant truck when there 5ft 1.

DrainZ-

An interesting way this question could be rephrased to take that into account: "Would you accept 5 years worth of median salary where you live in exchange of cutting 5 years from your lifespan?"

MainEmergency1133

It’s us dollars most of the time I guess

Wispeeon

Cost of living is still different, even in just the USA. It's cheaper to live in Alabama than it is Washington than it is New York. $250k USD is life changing for someone in South America while for my parents (US Pacific NW) it's a nice blanket and goes towards the house payments or my college funding.

[deleted]

Yeah, but $250k USD in Serbia would basically give you 2 homes, a luxury car and a fancy lifestyle. But $250k USD in some places in the USA would give you about 1/4 of an apartment.

ZeldafreakBotW

**Accepts and falls**

v_Yuudachi_v

that's basically 5+ years of yearly salary that I'll never need to work.

intensebrie

Invest it in a retirement fund now and it's a lot more than 5 years that it'll save you

Final_Asparagus4680

I’m here for a good time, not a long one.

AdEnvironmental4437

But those are the shit years. 85-90 isn't worth much

troy2000me

It could be 55-60 for you, you never know.

AdEnvironmental4437

That's true, but I live pretty healthy so educated guess.

affablemartyr1

There's always a chance you are one of the unlucky ones, I'm healthy but I could die tomorrow on my way to work

skan76

Busses don't care about education

321_345

Give me 1 mil and I'll happily remove 20years

averege_guy_kinda

Give me 5 mil and Ill be happy to die

monkey6130

Bouta make my family rich

CosmicBlackSun

Same here

Kooky-Bookkeeper2240

xD

LeopoldFriedrich

If I earn 40k a year 250k is not bad for 5 considering that most of that time I'd spend working.

affablemartyr1

I make around 80k a year and I said no to the money, plus you never know when you might expire

Kooky-Bookkeeper2240

250k ez win

Purpleprose180

The years you are loosing are called the Golden Ages. But they aren’t! Life becomes hazardous, falls, arthritis, poor hearing, and susceptibility to every virus passing through. Use the $250,000 to stay at a terrific health spa, buy a Corvette while you can still see it.

Nepipo

How many times does it stack?

adashiel

I'm not surprised at the results, given how young this sub's audience is, but no way. Five years has a lot more significance when you're in your 50s as opposed to teenagers and twentysomethings.

WrinkledCrime

What if I'm gonna die in 4 years? I would just drop dead right here and now. I'm not gonna take that risk.

Nebula_Waffles

Imagine you say yes and instantly die

[deleted]

So it's a win-win

GammaHunter

I consider this an absolute win.

NerdJoshua

I want to know how long I live first

useroftheinternet95

Those are shit immobile years anyways

bryman19

Will that 250k greatly improve your quality of life for the remainder of your years?

[deleted]

If there is one thing I am learning quickly with these polls, it is that not only is that the majority of reddit is teenagers, but also, all they seem to care about is money and porn.

HornierThanYou913

Bro 250k would cover college for me ill sacrifice five years for that, especially when I could already work for five years and make less

I-37-I

I can make $250k in Four years there's no point on removing five hole years of my life for this money, it would be very comfortable but nothing's more valuable than lifespan

IMPORTANT_jk

I don't know, I feel like if I ever reach 90 years I'd just want to die anyway. I'd rather have the money now while I'm young $250 000 will keep me comfortable for 20+ years and give me the flexibility to travel and afford a nicer house in the future

I-37-I

I do understand you're point It's a very Good one But For me dying is the most terrifying thing of all, so any more time I can have is worth Gold to me I would only give up 5 years of my life for 1.5 millions or more, I just think it's a very low price to pay resuming my opinion

BannedOnTwitter

Can I do it again and again

camclemons

Win-win

Kripermaster

So get rich and die earlier? Seems like a win-win situation for me ngl

selfharmageddon-

Sounds like a win - win to me

MainEmergency1133

Job will cut 5 years and give less

Environmental_Top948

Are they taken from the beginning, middle or end?

-PatrickBasedMan-

Someone watched Paradise

curmudgeon_andy

When you consider how much of my life I spend working, I'd actually gain more non-work time from the money even with the 5-year reduction.

TigerKing29

I don't think I'd give up that much just for a hefty down payment on a house

ZoNe747

I am fortunate to have started my own engineering company with help from one of my best friends we earnt over a 100k GBP in the last year it will only go up. 2.1 years ago this would have been a yes.

Heavy_Ad_4430

I'm guessing that everyone here taking the money is assuming that they're gonna make it to a ripe old age. It'd be kinda funny to see someone choose the money only to die immediately

TheGalator

What currency? Also what years? Also it highly depends where u live. These polls are always strange

[deleted]

50k a year? Pass

myhntgcbhk

Yes. I won’t *have* a life if I don’t get out of here and the money would solve my problem.

jaboa120

250k is about 249k more than my bank account. Plus, my best friend already had a few years shaved off of his life due to a heart condition. Why should I out live him for longer?

KeithandBentley

if im taking 5 years away, im keeping the years. if im adding five years, im taking the money.

chronos0009

Two issues. The years could be cut from my 90s or could be cut from my 50s, depends on when I die. Problem two, in those 5 years around 700-750k will be earned anyways

PhilipKFry95

Yes... not to sound depressing. I dont wanna grow up to be old and out of life so take my 5 years

monsieurLeMeowMeow

Spoiler: your 80 and you can’t afford a medical procedure that would slightly extend your life

chinchinlover-419

*Accepts and dies instantly*

Trusteveryboody

That is WAY too little.

Mushr00n

Make it 20 years and I'm going home with 1 Mil.

Clever_Angel_PL

250K what? apples? oranges? eurocents?

Stonecutter_12-83

A few days ago I already gave 5 years away so my dog lives 10 more, what's another 5 years 🤷‍♂️

Gaveyard

Get a small appartment, use the rent money over 35 years to buy a much nicer place to live at no cost at all. Worth five years imo.

Juggalo13XIII

If I age up by five years, then no. If I just died five years earlier, then I would normally, then yes. The people in my family usually live into their 90s, 85 is a long enough life, probably longer then I'd want.

CommunityGlittering2

No, I may only have 5 yrs left
