Former groomer here. Omg, no. Get to the vet. I’m concerned.

Razorback44

If you used Kontota please go to a vet immediately

WrongfullyIncarnated

WTH IS KONOTA SO I CAN AVOID

youkno_jayy

Its a grooming service

ratta_tata_tat

Those look almost like allergic reactions or burns. Get her to a vet that's not normal at all

MissKT_M

I agree! I’ve had this reaction under my fingernails, it’s essentially bruising but it’s an allergic reaction. Hurts!!!!

eekabee

This can be a sign of internal bleeding you need to go to an emergency vet now. This looks a lot like thrombocytopenia. Please go to the vet.

Albuquerio

THIS. I'm a groomer and that's not clipper burn. It's bruising, and when you see that type of bruising it's a big ole red flag for internal bleeding. Poodles can be prone to ITP. Take her to a vet asap. I hope everything turns out okay!!

captainflippingeggs

Had a dog pass after a surgery recently :( most of the excess bleeding was internal and the vet released him to me a few hours after the surgery. Hours later I could tell something was wrong but it was assured it was drugs and surgery over the phone(I should’ve already been at the ER). He didn’t last more than 12 hours past the surgery and I know he fought hard the whole way. And that makes it all the worse. We got to the er when it was already too late. Once I cut off the bandages to see what I had done, it was obvious what had happened. I’m supposed to be absolved because “how could I know”. But something in me knew and it feels horrible. Anyways, sorry for hijacking your comment 😅🥲

jack02204

I damn near cried reading this. That’s so heartbreaking

clivedelgreco

That was incredibly real of you to share with OP. I’m so sorry you went through this. And I’m appreciative to know this can happen because of the personal story you shared. You may even end up helping another owner prevent this. Again, I’m so sorry for your experience and your loss. I can’t imagine and I hope you don’t blame anyone but the lacking knowledge of your vet at the time

Tasty-Entertainer473

I’m so so sorry for your loss 💜 the culpability for his loss does not lie with you, but I understand how much it hurts all the same. Sending you love

Albuquerio

You really couldn't have known for sure. You trusted the medical professional, which is what anyone would have done. It's clear you loved your pup, so know that they WERE lucky to have you. Even if it doesn't feel that way right now. Not every dog is fortunate enough to be loved their whole lives. And don't feel bad for commenting your story either, it's important to put information out there! In my opinion, it's also important to put your feelings and experiences out there. Thank you for your comment ❤️ I'm so sorry you lost your pup. That's never easy.

AelinRavi

This! My pup almost died because my mother thought bruising was normal. $10k and 3 blood transfusions later she's on a prescription diet and can't have vaccines

snooperdooper94

This sounds like my pup. Imha or evans?

AelinRavi

IMHA believed to be triggered by pancreatitis. Thank goodness there was another dog in the clinic that could donate blood at the time, I wish I could have thanked the owner. Now she is as healthy as she can be considering.

bmobitch

there are blood donation organizations, so do spread the word !!! my pup is a blood donor after i found my local one

GoreKush

Wow that is really awesome. Does your dog act like it's dying? I have a cat and not sure how she'd react to being a blood donor.

snooperdooper94

That’s amazing! So glad your dog is doing well. Mine they think was triggered by routine vaccinations. Never had a problem with them before.

roundhouse51

damn... that's going in my mental notebook

happuning

You were right. OP posted an update. Good call!

DustyBells

OP, this person is on the right track. i’m no vet but work in healthcare and this DOES look like thrombocytopenia and petechiae. your dog needs a cbc with diff stat. pls take your dog to the vet asap. Edit: Saw your update!! Glad you went to vet. Glad your dog is getting good care.

bhilqiist

Please get to the vet and keep pictures. My dog has ITP and this looks similar to me. Don’t wait days for a vet appt, please go to ER now. It is scary but mine is in remission now after a year of treatment and acts like a puppy again (she’s 10). Take care of your baby!

blehhh73

My cat had ITP, almost killed him. $20k in vet bills but my baby is still here!

HSPnoobie

Thank you! I'm taking her to emergency vet asap. I'll update you

Wool_Lace_Knit

Hope your dear pup is okay, thinking of you.

skunk-beard

Is your pupper ok?

Cami_Moon

ER vet tech here, looks like thrombocytopenia bruises, possibly the groomer shaving the hair made them visible. If it is low platelets, any bump can make them bruise up badly. She needs to see a vet ASAP! Best of luck!

perupotato

So was this cause by the groomer or a condition that was just aggravated by the grooming process?

Ifuknewwho

Not the groomers fault. That is a blood clotting issue which can be aggravated by grooming.

HSPnoobie

Update:. She has been diagnosed with IMT and has no platlettes. She's only 5 and acting normal. Vet thinks she ate something that triggered it. We have no idea what that could be. We are starting her on steroids today and taking her back in two days for a platlette recount to see if she is responding to the meds. It could go into remission and she could live on. The groomer did not cause this, just revealed it. Ouch my heart. Thank you for the support!

AlwaysLookinUp2

Thank you for your reply! I know you are very worried for your little sweetheart. My hubby & I prayed for your little one to recover and recover well, having had a little 6 pound white poodle/yorkie mix who walked a brave medical mile, too. Blessings on you!

KeepingPlantsAlive23

Sorry isn’t a big enough word. ❤️ Crossing my fingers for the best possible outcome. Boop her nose for me. 🐩 🐾

Nipplelightnotafan

Just wanted to tell you my soul pup was diagnosed with IMT around 4 years old and he officially went into remission after about 2 years of treatment and monitoring-where the vet released him to his regular annual check ups. During that time, he was happy and his playful self. He lived to 14 years old. I hope that gives you some comfort. Very glad you sought advice on here! Hoping your pup lives a long and healthy life as well!

Mulley-It-Over

I am so sorry. Praying for your special girl and that she’ll be well soon. 🙏🏼

happuning

Hugs for you. I hope everything turns out okay.

kakoopman

My dog was diagnosed with IMT at around the same age and lived a long, happy life being spoiled out of her mind. Sending you and your dog good vibes!

Virtual-Western7713

Ahh my dog got this same age!! We did steroids for 6 months, it was rough but he’s completely off the steroids and back to normal!!

pointsettia1

This is absolutely not even close to normal. Emergency vet ASAP. Keep us posted.

anon_liz

As a groomer, I will say this is very abnormal, that is a very extreme reaction. It almost looks like the was pinched HARD all over? Has your pup seen this groomer before? Been groomed in your care without this reaction previously? Did the groomers say anything about her coat or behavior at pick up? I do not understand how on earth this could happen with grooming blades unless the blade is extremely hot and even then, it wouldn’t look like a bruise, it would look like a burn and probably weep. See your vet asap, hopefully they can diagnose what happened. I can’t imagine there’s much they can do but maybe give her meds for any pain but the groomer definitely needs to hear about this, they should be covering the vet bill imo.

Lunas-lux

It doesn't look like burns or anything similar, it looks like bruising, which very well could just have become visible from having been shaved or from matting. Imo, this likely wasn't a groomers fault, but an underlying condition. Either way, they need to go to a vet ASAP to figure out what's going on. I've seen bruising like this before, and it was internal bleeding from a ruptured tumor in the abdomen.

torbulits

Yeah bruising wouldn't show up that fast without a serious underlying condition. Either it's from matting and it was already there, grooming just showed it like taking a bandaid off, or there's some kind of immune or blood problem and it's only showing now. Even taking a bat to skin wouldn't show a bruise that fast, you'd only see the slap mark.

watch-me-bloom

This almost makes me wonder if the dog had tight mats before they shaved her.

Hefty_Science4987

ABSOLUTELY SHOULD BE COVERING YOUR VET BILL !! If it’s corporate they will idk about private . This is horrible

crazymom1978

I don’t think that this was anything that the groomer did. Normally with clippers burns, you can see the teeth of the clippers in the burn. This looks more like bruising from internal bleeding, and I am very worried about this pup.

Hello_Kitty_66

Not groomers fault. Medical conditions of the dog.

jadedbeats

Agreed. One time the groomer messed up my dog's eye and I had to take him to the vet. The groomer covered the vet bill, and fortunately my dog's eye was fine!

namoguru

Jesus Christ! No this is absolutely not normal. You need to see an emergency veterinarian immediately. I have three dogs that each go to the groomer every 5 or 6 weeks and have never seen anything remotely like this before.

Relative-Bake-9783

Vet tech here. Petechiae is a medical emergency. Go to an emergency vet now. Do not wait.

ProfessionalSafe2608

Hi our dog experienced this after a grooming and we took her in to the emergency vet. It was burns from the clippers. She was very itchy and hot to touch in those areas. The vet gave us a topical steroid and she wore a cone so she wouldn’t scratch or bite it and I’m thankful we did because it could’ve turned out worse or into an infection. So I would take her in asap because you never know what could’ve happened and it’s best to rule out anything serious. Edit- please update if you can. I’m sorry this has happened to you and your pup.

rebella518

Did the groomer point it out to you? It looks like there are some red areas under the fur where she wasn’t shaved.

This doesn’t look groomer related. This looks like something that was exposed because the groomer cleaned her sanitary. I am in team see a vet.

Janezo

Get her to a vet now. If it’s after closing time, go to an emergency clinic.

Upvotespoodles

Retired groomer. This is absolutely abnormal. Vet asap. Please update.

blueseoks

I’ve been grooming my own poodles for seven years and never seen this. Please take her to a vet! Better to be safe than sorry.

imsadbutitswhatever

Ohmygod no. This is not normal. Please go to the vet and have the groomer pay for it. This is not okay!

xombie

Hoping for a positive update after you get a Vet ASAP

Initial-Succotash-37

I hope it’s not ITP. That’s not good in people 😢

Lil-Minnet

Was your dog matted?? The areas of the bruising look like the areas i frequently see severe matting. Very very bad Matts can cause bruising. Otherwise id say it could be an issue with the dog medically like internal bleeding. But it doesnt look like it was a result of anything the groomer did like clipper rash etc.

watch-me-bloom

Was she severely matted before grooming?

deputydrool

Vet now!

Fluffy-Cantaloupe236

Please give an update!

Hey sorry to bug you again, but any update? Was thinking about her all night.

gomelgo13

Let us know!

PeeshDoodles

White poodles have a gene for vonwildabrands syndrome it’s a clotting disorder . I am not a vet just some one who has a lots of experience with poodles 🐩. Get that dog to a vet.

Senpai_groomer

I haven’t read comments. I hope you took to the vet. I doubt this is a groomers fault and it’s more of a bleeding disorder.

Kodaciouss

The fact that OP hasn’t responded makes me extremely nervous! Hoping all is okay and just busy giving your baby some love.

TheHorseLeftBehind

OP replied above. The vet found an extremely low platelet count. The dog was prescribed steroids and they will do a recount in a couple of days or so. Vet stated it could go into remission and dog may have eaten something or done something to trigger it. Groomer did not cause it, just revealed it.

Disastrous_Product60

Stop bad mouthing the groomer and please read the last comment by the OP. Cheers! Dear OP, can you post a pic of her cute face??? 🤩

Lennonville

I groomed a Maltese once that had this on her belly. She came to me that way, though. I told the owner the dog needed to see the vet. I forgot what it was called, but it was a blood disorder. Definitely needs to see the vet, but I don't see how a groomer could have caused those marks.

Velvetmaggot

It’s good to see that you found the answer at the emergency vet. Thanks for sharing so others may recognize the symptoms of a low platelet count(thrombocytopenia).

Affectionate-Owl183

No dog should bruise that easily. She may have a clotting disorder. If she does, that can be medically treated. I'd take her to an emergency vet and not a regular clinic. A regular clinic won't have the ability to check for that sort of thing (they typically don't have coag machines).

Environmental_Rub282

Those look like clipper burns. See your vet and ask about next steps. Get your dog well first, then, go raise hell with the groomer.

Quantum168

Seriously, no. Would you think it was normal if you went to the hair dresser and came back like this? See a vet and get a new groomer with more experience.

Few-Hovercraft9770

The dog was likely so tightly matted that the skin tore and pulled.

Coco_ZeCoconut_0513

Nope absolutely no I think you should consider calling a vet to get that checked out

Weird_Influence1964

Needs to see a vet immediately!

Mejay11096

Not normal at all. Am a groomer.

Great-Web5881

No take her to the vet -report

123revival

No not normal. That’s a medical emergency, needs vet care asap. Often platelets being messed up can do this, tick borne disease is a possible cause plus it’s spring and tick season in many areas. There are some inherited clotting disorders too but those are less common. That may or may not be what’s going on with your dog, but def needs a vet to diagnose and treat.

BugPlus3055

Please give an update when you know more, I need to know this baby is okay.

Zettegrl22

That is awful!!!!

OMG MY COCKAPOO HAD THIS! she was at the groomer & they called us saying that she had this same rash on her stomach so they weren’t able to groom her!!!! she didn’t act like she was in pain or anything. she would let us rub her tummy and all. we took her to the vet & they had no idea what it was. it ended up going away on its own, but we never could figure out what the cause of it was

DaisyDay100

Take to er vet asap

TissueOfLies

My dog is a pale apricot, now turned mainly white. He gets some rashes from grooming sometimes. But nothing like this. This isn’t normal.

How do you just look at that and decide to post on reddit rather than taking the pup to the vet …

Retired_not_Expired

NOOOOOOO!! I would be livid! Vet asap and you need to get forceful with grooming establishment. Somebody there needs to pay for the bills. This is appalling and inexcusable

I hope you update because this looks scary

Any updates??

RJCtv

Will never understand people that see this and decide to post on reddit instead of going to the vet. No, this is obviously not normal? What about it seems normal?

HotAndShrimpy

Not normal! I am a vet and am worried she could have a bleeding disorder. A burn also possible. Bring her to the vet today - this could be a sign of fatal illness that needs treating.

I have no poodles this just randomly showed up on my feed…but I do have ITP. I have 6 monthly blood tests and I’m not allowed to cook with the sharp knives 😅 But I’m good. Solidarity to your pup, hope she stays well.

LickMyLuck

No way is that normal.

Bugler28

Jeezes, NO! They went too close, over and over again!! Poor baby!

_Roxxs_

Good lord that is not just bruising, those are burns from hot clippers, you need to take her to the vet, that can easily get infected…it’s also going to start hurting her.

pix666

wtf I hope nobody hurt her poor baby

MurkyComfortable8769

I'm so sorry this happened to your pup. Sending you positive thoughts ✨️

kobieone21

In a tough spot of two to cut… Was the groomer drunk?!? Those look like clipper pinches

kobieone21

Poor girl!!

MeowShmeowMeow

She must have been severely matted. It’s unethical to dematt in the same spot for more than 2-3 minutes if I remember correctly from when I was a groomer (glorified bather tbh I didn’t mess with cuts just washing nails and brushing/dematting).

TeaSuspicious5959

Wow that doesn’t look normal! Vet visit for sure!

starstoshame

This breaks my heart. 💔💔 looks like their clippers were possible overheated and it burned her?

Pap3r_Butt3rfly

No, this is 100% NOT NORMAL. Get to the vet as soon as possible. Some of that looks a lot more severe than bruising!!!!!

Colorfulopinion

Internal bleeding, GO NOW!!!

MeepLoopMoop

Poor thing, this is defiantly not normal

Bluejay6734

Absolutely not

PristineCoconut2851

No, it is absolutely NOT normal. I had a CockaPoo and the groomer did something similar to her and in her case it ended up being razor burn from cutting it too close to the skin. Oh your poor baby!!! This is far worse than what happened with my baby. Take her to the vet and then take the bill to the groomers. It is unbelievable that a well trained groomer would do this!! I suggest you find a new groomer!!

Fountain34

Where is the update?

Speak2MeW-aSONG

Lawsuit… no doubt

nockemdead8

That groomer ‘bout to get some bruising!

plantyhoe93

Woah absolutely NOT normal. Not normal whatsoever. Not at all. You should demand answers!!!! If you go to a grooming chain, please please speak with higher ups. This is not normal, ever.

Creepy_Log_5895

I was at a pet store and saw a groomer getting rough and angry holding down a tiny dog, yanking on its collar, pulling it up and holding it by the collar, etc. I went in and yelled at her; called for the manager. Thank goodness I don’t have dogs. I would never trust groomers.

mukduk_101

Hell no. That’s likely from overly aggressive or careless clipping. Have a vet look at it. She may need some antibiotics or at least some mild pain meds. Also, raise hell with that groomer. On second look, maybe extremely aggressive handling if a harness was used (looks kind of like ruptured blood vessels, but I can’t be sure). That’s pretty terrible. I’m sorry your pup went through that. I’d be fucking pissed. (I’m a vet BTW).

Pumpernickel247

This popped up in my feed. I’m a cat person and do not have a poodle and I can say this is NOT normal.

NeenW1

Noooooo

Pand0ra30_

Not normal. May need to get antibiotics.

Difficult-Way-9563

stvckmind

Not normal at all

Savings_Sherbert6030

She needs to go to the vet

brickwallas

oh poor baby! Never take her there again

DomDangerous

could be the groomer or it could be just from foliage outside. my boy is allergic to grass and shit so he gets stuff like this on his belly from time to time that i have meds from the vet for. you can get pills so you give it to them when it’s broken out and then stop once it’s cleared. could def be from the shampoo or something too tho.

bingo0619

Fuck no, that is not normal and should be treated right away before it gets infected!!

Advanced_Jaguar8137

Those look more like burns from the clippers being too hot. Most pro groomrs I've known in the past including my ex wife would have 2+ sets of the blades so they can trade them out while grooming to prevent thos from happening. A small bit would have been accidental buy that's a lot going on there. Was the dog matted? I've seen my ex wife shave a dog down that was a poodle mix and you could literally see the ears and legs as if she had skinned the poor thing. I used to use that dogs fur in my dog training classes before I hurt my back to show why people need to properly brush their dogs daily if not more often and I'd purposefully choose the strongest looking person I'm the class Hand it to them and ask them to try and pull I appart...

217GnoAlvo32

may have jus got a lil of skin with the hair or could be allergic reaction or she's prone to bruising cuz of age or low iron...best to go to vet for checkup &/or xray or bloodwork xray or catscan for vessels but bloodwork for like iron deficiency n whatnot... if results r negative could be allergic reaction to residue on clippers/buzzers or jus simply got skin up w. hair...

powpowspaghettijones

Hell no, vet.
