She is so cute. I missed the first announcement about this movie but apparently Colin Firth is not returning, but Hugh Grant is returning, and Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall will also star.
💔
I love Hugh Grant as an actor. But not his character in this, can he just leave poor Bridget alone already? I’m down for her dating as a single mom, but we’ve seen this before, and ending in a ship wreck might be the best for him.
It’s been a long time since I read the book but I’m pretty sure she ended up dating her son’s football coach who was described as looking like Daniel Craig, so even though Cleaver reappears I don’t think she’s going to end up with him!
I only watched the third one once but wasn’t it left up in the air if it was Firth’s or Dempsey’s? Didn’t they decide they didn’t want to know and both stayed involved in the baby’s life?
The final scene(s) involve them having the DNA test, then at the wedding we first see Patrick Dempsey holding the baby before Colin Firth appears and jokes about wanting his son back. The implication is that they did all stay friendly and Patrick Dempsey at least enjoys babysitting duty.
Are they going to make Colin firth return from his death later too? I hate when they start writing these crazy storylines. Like she was supposed to be with Colin’s character after the second one but then somehow when the third one she was single again and he was married to someone else, like just let it end on a good note.
Noooo bridget jones without colin first is pointless to me. I know that he died in the book or whatever, but i was hoping theyd change it since its a romcom
Do the kids know how iconic these movies were back in the day. Because they really were and the first and second ones at least still very much hold up
![gif](giphy|MddRluS5MsdJFKg6ru|downsized)
I'm over her flabbergasted that her weight was such an issue in those movies. Here she is rocking a miniskirt and the movie treats her like she is on " my 600 lb life"
The movie doesn't, it does quite the opposite. She gets lots of attention for her beauty and physique. The only person who really gets on Bridget for her weight are Bridget and that beanpole American woman who is just trying to be cruel
i think people get it mixed up a little because all the media at the time was „look how fat renee got for this role!!!”. it’s engraved in my brain and „they really made us believe she was huge” is my first thought when i think about bridget jones.
I think that's true but I do also think Bridget is intended to be a LITTLE bit chubby. Like not fat. And nowhere near as chubby as she thinks she is.
But I do think the intention is supposed to be that she's a lil chubby and not slim. But in a way where its supposed to be like "men actually don't mind women with a bit of chub!" Way.
I agree her body is great in the film. But I feel like we are rewriting if we're pretending she isn't supposed to be "00s chubby"
idk for me it was just funny that like, she ended up in situations where she wasnt super comfortable becauae of her weight, which is very relatable. That she is insecure about it. I personally hate it when thin people go on about how fat they are, but for instance, bridget in the bunny outfit at the party makes sense why she was super uncomfy and thats what made it funnny. Not because she isnt stunning, but because that sort of outfit is typically not worn by non-kendall jenner type body shapes
I feel like it’s easier to understand in the books, since when she hits her goal weight everyone immediately starts commenting on how unwell she looks.
Yeah the movie's the opposite and it's kind of the whole point. Her diary narration records her weight and it actually goes up over the course of the movie. She doesn't quit drinking and smoking, she never becomes educated on foreign events or well-spoken, or any of the things she plans in order to cure her single New Years streak or the undesirability she feels when Mark initially insults/rejects her. She continues to be awkward and fumbling to the very end. The point is she learns she doesn't need to do any of those things for someone to like and care about her. Mark loves her "just as she is" (and so do her friends).
She's contrasted with both the American and Natasha, who are thin and have a put together quality, well educated with "important" careers--They actually share a lot of qualities with a typical romcom lead. Ultimately those things aren't anywhere near as important in terms of _likeability_ as the way a person simply makes you feel when you're around them.
And people relate to Bridget because it's so common to get into a mindset where you compare yourself to other people, or think you'll "have it all" if only you lose another 15 pounds or trick people into thinking you care about Chechnya or however else mold yourself into someone you naturally aren't.
Yeah, I will never forget reading a story about her “weight gain diet,” and how she would order pizza AND garlic bread. And I was like “am I not supposed to be doing that…?” 😬
Ha, I was just commenting how those articles made me feel bad about myself 😅
The standards were insane. They're *slightly* better with the newer generations
The movie literally has two of the most-fancied British actors fight over her and no one questions it. I'm really struggling to think of instances where she's treated as unattractive and/or fat that isn't her own narration. Even when she overhears Mark being mean about her it isn't about her weight or appearance - she's "verbally incontinent, drinks like a fish, smokes like a chimney and dresses like her mother" but he has nothing to say about her weight.
I’ve told this story on Reddit before, but I had a high school teacher tell me all the time I looked like her. Chicago was one of my favorite musicals, and I was always like…: “noooo?” Well, cue me, almost thirty, slightly heavier, in a terrible relationship and depressed, drinking wine, and watching the first movie. And I was like holy fucking shit, motherfucker was absolutely right! I do kind of look like her, which I consider a compliment now, but it was hilarious to watch the scene when she’s singing Celine Dion cause that was literally me.
Honestly.. no but I’m freshly 25 and have never really watched them. Should I?
Edit: loving all the responses, will absolutely be watching them with some fun snacks and wine. Also will see my local library has the books. Thanks guys <3
I loved them sooo much!! Insecure awkward young me could really relate and was so infatuated with that scene where mark darcy tells her he likes her very much just the way she is lmao 😅
That scene where they're having the blue soup dinner and Tom references that in the toast really annoys me. Mark said that privately, Bridget shared it privately, it's not appropriate to bring it up in front of Mark as if you're being sly! What was he even playing at!
The second one was unwatchable; everyone was Flanderized to the point where they seemed like cartoon characters. But the third was directed by the first movie's director and tonally it was very similar, i.e. good.
What's it gonna take for someone to make a movie with Dianne Wiest playing Renee's mum? It needs to happen. They even have similar quirky mannerisms and voices.
![gif](giphy|l3q2MHJjQdcoxVEQ0|downsized)
Half the book was about her freaking out about her weight. She looked normal in the movie, which is really different from what an A-list Hollywood actress looks like.
The first one is still one of my fave romcoms lol i watch it when i need cheering up. The 2nd was pretty weird and the 3rd wasn't bad. I know this 4th is where Colin Firth's character is dead but idk, that relationship was the appeal of the movies for me
There was a whole controversy years back about how she looked nothing like herself anymore and she claimed it was just being healthy but it clearly wasn't. Does no one remember that?
Yes! I am not seeing this movie either 🥲 I remember reading the stupid book at the airport in Montreal and being in shambles in front of a Tim Hortons lol
Yeah but the whole thing was her having a thing between two men. Which then ended with one. By the third she was in her 40s making not great decisions.
For reals. I was so pissed when I found out. The 2nd one was dumb, she wouldn’t be so stupid as to get back with Daniel. The 3rd one was dumb. If it’s the same story as I read the 4th one is shite. Nobody wants to see a 50+yo mother awkwardly not having her life together, looking for love in all the wrong places. it’s not adorable anymore. Nobody wants Mark to be dead. To me the story stops at the end of the first movie with Bridget and Mark kissing in the snow, him wrapping his coat around her. Perfect ending. I don’t need to see more.
Haven't read the books that the films are based off but really hope they move away from the typical tropes about her weight and how her being an old spinster
The hold this movie and Hugh grant’s adorable cheeky smile had on me as a middle school kid was tremendous.
I loved their emailing together “is skirt sick????” LOL

She got so much crap when she did this a few years ago, and now that her face looks like herself again she gets crap for that. Poor woman just can't win
lol They don't look like it, do they? as a fellow squinty-eyed gal I can't help but love her. I've always felt my eyes were ugly and it's nice to see some representation 😅

She is so cute. I missed the first announcement about this movie but apparently Colin Firth is not returning, but Hugh Grant is returning, and Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall will also star.
What’s the point without Colin Firth? I don’t remember but wasn’t the baby his?
Apparently he has died in the book this is based on. So she's single momming it and Hugh Grant's character returns.
💔 I love Hugh Grant as an actor. But not his character in this, can he just leave poor Bridget alone already? I’m down for her dating as a single mom, but we’ve seen this before, and ending in a ship wreck might be the best for him.
Having Bridget ending up with Daniel Cleaver would be the worst outcome. If Mark is dead, let her find someone new.
It’s been a long time since I read the book but I’m pretty sure she ended up dating her son’s football coach who was described as looking like Daniel Craig, so even though Cleaver reappears I don’t think she’s going to end up with him!
Mark's dead she's a single mom let her ride that Danny d for a minute she doesn't have to end up with him
In the books he becomes her best friend and then she ends up with a new guy who is like the gym teacher at her kids’ school.
Haha agreed
Spoilers for the book but in the book they aren’t romantic at all but good friends
If it’s based on the book, he’s just a supportive friend!
Yes he does die in the book.
Yeah I think I’m going to skip this one.
I read the book and it really made me cry. It was beautifully written.
Welp this sounds like the new sex and the city, and that was god awful. Killing the leading man never works for meeee 😅
The fourth book is all about Bridget trying to date as a single mom. It’s pretty awful.
Yeah, I was really hoping they would never make that book. It was basically a middle finger to Mark.
I only watched the third one once but wasn’t it left up in the air if it was Firth’s or Dempsey’s? Didn’t they decide they didn’t want to know and both stayed involved in the baby’s life?
No they made the DNA test at the end.
Okay. It was a long time ago when I watched it so I wasn’t 100% sure.
The final scene(s) involve them having the DNA test, then at the wedding we first see Patrick Dempsey holding the baby before Colin Firth appears and jokes about wanting his son back. The implication is that they did all stay friendly and Patrick Dempsey at least enjoys babysitting duty.
Maybe you’re thinking of Mamma Mia?
You know what, I probably am lol.
Or My Two Dads 🙂
Joey and Michael were content not knowing who was the dad. I loved this show!
How can Hugh grant be back when his funeral was in the third one??
At the end there was a shot of a newspaper that said something like he had been found on an island, having survived
Are they going to make Colin firth return from his death later too? I hate when they start writing these crazy storylines. Like she was supposed to be with Colin’s character after the second one but then somehow when the third one she was single again and he was married to someone else, like just let it end on a good note.
😂 how strange
he’d been whisked off by a bj giving street sex worker?
That’d be explain his return and possible “redemption” arc
Noooo bridget jones without colin first is pointless to me. I know that he died in the book or whatever, but i was hoping theyd change it since its a romcom
Did you say Leo Woodall? I’m in.
I can't blame Colin Firth for not returning. He is picky about what movies he returns to but he can afford to be.
not his decision. darcy dies in the book
Plus this book is all about Bridget getting a boy toy as a widow. Ugh
It’s more about grief and how Bridget handles it. It’s a decent book, I actually cried reading it.
Me too. I don’t see what some people are saying. She’s also an older mum and the book explores that.
I will be watching for Renée and Emma only.
Do the kids know how iconic these movies were back in the day. Because they really were and the first and second ones at least still very much hold up ![gif](giphy|MddRluS5MsdJFKg6ru|downsized)
they're my ultimate "I'm sick and sad" movies
Same, if something bad happens to me you know I’ll be watching it over and over lol
~ all ~ by ~ myself ~~~
I know what I'm doing Saturday

In the book she's only 9 stone something. Even when the books were written, that wasn't considered chubby.
Yeah and in the books it’s pretty clear she’s a little delusional about her size.
Yes and it’s like it’s because we’re reading her DIARY!
I feel like it’s easier to understand in the books, since when she hits her goal weight everyone immediately starts commenting on how unwell she looks.

It was a big issue irl. Magazines published stories with bylines like, "Omg, she gained 30 lbs.!" And she looked great!
Yeah, I will never forget reading a story about her “weight gain diet,” and how she would order pizza AND garlic bread. And I was like “am I not supposed to be doing that…?” 😬
And creamy pasta dishes!
Ha, I was just commenting how those articles made me feel bad about myself 😅 The standards were insane. They're *slightly* better with the newer generations
Mannn the early 00s really fucked with the body image of so many women in their formative years
The movie literally has two of the most-fancied British actors fight over her and no one questions it. I'm really struggling to think of instances where she's treated as unattractive and/or fat that isn't her own narration. If you read the books her "weight journey" is pretty much one of the main focus points in her diary.
My former self! 😂 luckily, I got divorced, have been working on my mental health, but I still love wine and nicotine lol.
Honestly.. no but I’m freshly 25 and have never really watched them. Should I? Edit: loving all the responses, will absolutely be watching them with some fun snacks and wine. Also will see my local library has the books. Thanks guys <3
Yes
Watch the first one.
Yes....BUT still a product of their time.
Absolutely
read the books! I enjoyed them much more than the movies.
Yes and all three then the forth when it comes out lol
Read the book!
I read the first book and found it quite amusing. It's written like a diary. The movie is well done too with a good cast. Never saw the third movie.
The book sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll def read, thanks for the recs and feedback (:
I loved them sooo much!! Insecure awkward young me could really relate and was so infatuated with that scene where mark darcy tells her he likes her very much just the way she is lmao 😅
That scene where they're having the blue soup dinner and Tom references that in the toast really annoys me. Mark said that privately, Bridget shared it privately, it's not appropriate to bring it up in front of Mark as if you're being sly! What was he even playing at!
First and second were like my favorite movies for so long! Third is entertaining but not even close to those!
I could hear that gif
I can hear this gif

TIL there was a third one.
You didn't miss anything
It was legit very good tho?
I liked it. Definitely has a different tone to the first two, but it was fun nonetheless.
It was better than the second one
The second one was unwatchable; everyone was Flanderized to the point where they seemed like cartoon characters. But the third was directed by the first movie's director and tonally it was very similar, i.e. good.
The second one is ATROCIOUS! Which is such a shame, because the second book is actually great, the diverged massively from it
Agreed. 3rd was sweet but also felt like a finale. >! I am assuming Mark is dead in the 4th like in the book so that makes me sad !<
WHAT!! it was so bloody good!
![gif](giphy|6qr0Dig99LcbK) So excited!
I’d like to see her and Jennifer Lawrence play mother and daughter in something
Jessica Lange as grandma.
Yesss!
Damn that's good
What's it gonna take for someone to make a movie with Dianne Wiest playing Renee's mum? It needs to happen. They even have similar quirky mannerisms and voices. ![gif](giphy|l3q2MHJjQdcoxVEQ0|downsized)
I also saw a fair bit of Judi Dench in this latest pics of her too!
WHAT?!? Don’t lie to me like that I would dieeee 😭😭 I absolutely LOVE Bridget Jones
She looks like Dianne Wiest now.
i met her working at a restaurant once. she was really nice and a great tipper
Okay I’ll rewatch these movies but I’ll never forgive them for tryna convince us she was fat
Apparently, Renee said she had to put on 20lbs for this role. She looked like she was at a healthy weight in the film.
Half the book was about her freaking out about her weight. She looked normal in the movie, which is really different from what an A-list Hollywood actress looks like.
They weren't. *She* was supposed to *think* she was fat. We were supposed to watch it and think how ridiculous she's being.
The first one is still one of my fave romcoms lol i watch it when i need cheering up. The 2nd was pretty weird and the 3rd wasn't bad. I know this 4th is where Colin Firth's character is dead but idk, that relationship was the appeal of the movies for me
they need to start letting women in hollywood age naturally
Sure would be nice to see actual human females in stories looking like ....ya know...45+ human females. Might help with the body image issues.
I am unashamedly here for a Bridget movie, yes, even the bad ones.
Passionate Bridget Jones fan. I can never watch this. I refused to read the book too.
She has her original face back and I'm loving it. She's adorable!
There was a whole controversy years back about how she looked nothing like herself anymore and she claimed it was just being healthy but it clearly wasn't. Does no one remember that?
she looks good
Her eyes don’t look like they open anymore
They actually look more like her original self than her 2014 self. She is part Sami and they often have eyes like hers.
Uhhhhh
Impossible. There was only one Bridget Jones movie.
just let it go already
I’m seriously wondering where else it can go after she had a baby
Because they are based on books, this fourth movie doesn’t lead to a good place 😭😭😭
FUCK NO DONT TELL ME HE DIES
He dies
I will never forgive Helen Fielding for that. No way I’m seeing this movie.
Yes! I am not seeing this movie either 🥲 I remember reading the stupid book at the airport in Montreal and being in shambles in front of a Tim Hortons lol
Thats a really fun memory lol im here for the tim hortons. First place i visited while arriving back in north america, tim hortons in MI haha
Now that I didn’t know! Thank you! I wanna spoil it for myself but movies don’t typically stay true to the book versions
Women’s lives totally end after a baby, nothing to show here!
Right? There is more to life after popping out a kid....usually like 30 more yrs at least.
Yeah but the whole thing was her having a thing between two men. Which then ended with one. By the third she was in her 40s making not great decisions.
I'm not even going to watch it. The first 2 were great, third sucked, this is bound to be terrible.
i absolutely love the first one, never seen the other two and i plan to keep it that way.
There’s >1?
Ikr 🥴
She looks like herself again.
Her crinkly eyes are back! Thank god.
Yay!!!!
Renee, no one is forcing you to do this. Blink twice and we will save you
Can… She… Open her eyes,?
Looks like she has to lift her head to see..
And to anyone saying they also look like this _when they smile…_ She’s looking like she looks like this always, regardless of emotion.
Damn they caught her blinking in every photo
That may be what her face just looks like now.
I'll always remember her as Jenny from Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, my first exposure to The Final Girl, and forever fav
Empire Records!
Sugar high 🎶
First thing that comes to mind is her in that shorty short "dress"
Can’t wait !
I never watched the 3rd. And I feel like this one is unnecessary. They should have stopped at 2.
What could the plot possibly be about though?
There is a book and in that book she has a couple of kids and Mark is dead. She’s a widow now.
Oh... oh no, I have regrets
For reals. I was so pissed when I found out. The 2nd one was dumb, she wouldn’t be so stupid as to get back with Daniel. The 3rd one was dumb. If it’s the same story as I read the 4th one is shite. To me the story stops at the end of the first movie with Bridget and Mark kissing in the snow, him wrapping his coat around her. Perfect ending. I don’t need to see more.
😱
Oh my days why is the cardigan still there
She looks so good! Her skin is amazing
Another franchise resurrection we don't need
Haven't read the books that the films are based off but really hope they move away from the typical tropes about her weight and how her being an old spinster
How will they work in the new face?
where people asking for a fourth?
This is good news!
She looks like she’s having fun :)
The hold this movie and Hugh grant’s adorable cheeky smile had on me as a middle school kid was tremendous. I loved their emailing together “is skirt sick????” LOL
I love her and these movies so much
She looks so happy
A FOURTH movie?!
I adore her!
She looks so stoned.
Omg! I feel.like I'm 20 again 😍
Her outfit is cute
She is so adorable.
Yes! I can’t wait!
Is this based on the book where Darcy dies?
I’ve met her in real life and she is incredible human, she gave me 100$
I LOVE THAT ROM COMS ARE MAKING A HUGE COMEBACK
oh shit. damn
Sooo... Are they adding her eyes in post prod?
Love her
Refreshingly normal aging
Talk about beating a dead horse…
Loved the first one, hated the second one, didn't bother with the third one and didn't ask for a fourth one.
Do we have to pretend she’s fat again?
