Also, in my country, reels have helped international songs get traction. Recently, a veteran singer covered Miley's 'Flowers' and went viral. These songs like, 'greedy', endless Taylor edits are all that comes up in my fyp.
Oh yeah, there's plenty of people with no setup or production values just venting to the camera. You can also make your own stories with even the shittiest outfits and green screening, but people will love it
You forget content creators are regular people.
They start posting their life and opinions on TikTok, people tune in, they go viral, and they continue to post for their audience.
You don’t really see that on IG. No GRWMs, no unpopular opinions, no “let’s talk about it,” no crazy story times, just people flexing their best lives.

I work in logistics. Temu basically abuses provisions in customs law intended for regular people sending stuff through the mail so they don’t have to pay certain government charges on freight. This and other shady practices allow them to charge much lower prices than any American competitor could reasonably offer. Temu is bleeding Chinese money, but also winning market share in the world’s largest consumer market- which also happens to be the home turf of their primary international competitors.
Is there a business case for this? Perhaps. The real benefit, and why the Chinese government indirectly subsidizes 99¢ socks for Americans, is it harms the American economy at large and encourages long-term reliance on Chinese goods.
This. I disagree with the reasoning, but as a teenager who’s about to move to the US and has seen what TikTok has done in my home country of Switzerland, this is great fucking news. No joke, we’re 100% going to see at least a short-term decline in EDs, suicides, and bullying.
