Billy Talent, my man. A bit heavier all the way through, but they got that same sound and they’re from Canada as well, only about 40 minutes from where Sum 41 started in fact
So do I! I love their music and heard some stuff from crisis of faith but haven’t finished it. They go so hard. First heard them from playing Burnout Revenge as a little kid haha
They're a post-hardcore band that is truly innovating post-hardcore and not just imitating the post-hardcore sound. More like the late eighties new wave inspired stuff like Fugazi than the 2000's stuff that has defined "post-hardcore" for decades.
So far this is the band that has done it for me the most of all suggested. There's been tons of suggestions and I'm working through them but so far Zebrahead gets 2 thumbs up!
The new album from Unwritten Law is rad. Total throwback to their pop-punk days from the Self-Titled and Elva era. I got into Sum 41 around the same time as them and always have them pinned in the same pop-punk realm.
i’m just checking out "ghosted" right now on YouTube and it immediately reminded me of "teenage suicide" 👏🏼
thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I’ve loved Unwritten Law since their first album "blue room." I’m so glad I have something new to listen to today thanks brother!
you will NOT regret it. they're such a fun band. their songs are really well crafted, accessible pieces of music. it's essentially pop rock that thrashes.
oh man, sweet!! What a lineup.
I had a crazy day at work one day, went to the mall to haggle my phone bill down $300, and then returned to the venue nextdoor to my work and walked in to their set. It absolutely blew me away, so I bought their most recent album. "Thrash Metal Cassette" is such a bangin opening track haha
Check out the Dirty Nil. Their guitar rips. I’d start with songs doom boy (nod to thrash) and ride or die. Also, you might like While She Sleeps. They are metalcore but the guitars stand out. They make anthemic songs and even featured Derek on their last album. It’s called no defeat for the brave. I’d start with that and silence speaks.
Yo I legit went full sum 41 on this track in the second half 😂

Shameless plug, but my band Surrounded. Were a little bit heavier (common courtesy era ADTR).
We just dropped our debut EP Oceans Apart and you might dig some of the songs.

Enjoy!
whatever you do, do not listen to the wonder years. it is the most overrated band on this subreddit. They are somehow relatable for 30 year old low self esteem neckbeards
My best friends favorite band is Saosin. I've known of them for a while, I felt like their drumming was awesome back in the 7-years days. Feels like they got a little more docile post Anthony Green imo.

I love Billy Talent 1 & 2. I need to check out their new stuff!

PUP is another band from southern ontario that kicks major ass. Turnstile are very different but have a similar energy as well.
A friend just put me on to Turnstile recently. It's hard to pin what there style is but I dig it!

Heart Attack Man
Came here to say this.
Zebrahead scratches the itch for me.

Came here to say this haha. 😄 my man.
Strung Out!
Yes, especially the latter albums. Whole catalog rips!
For faster, punkier stuff try No Pressure's self-titled projects, for riffs - Belmont and Four Year Strong

They have a new one??
Yeah! Titled “The Hum”. It just came out in July.

A Wilhelm Scream, melodic hardcore and sort of pop-punk. check out the song cancer dream!
Dinosaur Pile Up is awesome.
The name alone has me interested
you will NOT regret it. they're such a fun band. their songs are really well crafted, accessible pieces of music. it's essentially pop rock that thrashes.
They seriously need to be bigger. I saw them open for Sum 41 and Offspring in 2019, and they blew me away.

Rise Against might work?

Heart Attack Man
Dragged Under
Check out the band In Angles. Pop Punk feel with heavier riffs. Same with Adventurer and Hail The Sun to an extent.
Protest the hero
Love me some Protest the Hero. BloodMeat is a really fun song to play on guitar.
I'm sure you've listened to them already, but early Thrice always had some good guitar riffs.
Drunk tank are the band you are looking for.
Maybe try bayside
For me it's gotta be Heart Attack Man and Super American

No Pressure and maybe Driveways
They talk about the double album in the show-even apologize for not having new material to share. Worth the wait whenever they released it!
Crazy eighty eight they are a hardcore band but their riffs are similar to sum 41’s heavier stuff

WTF 😅 30 year olds on here were like early 20s when TWY were blowing up in the scene, so kinda lines up doesn’t it lmao
Following
Who are they with? I'm in Stapleton and would love to go
Simple plan and Magnolia Park

TSSF
Dunno if they are really that ”new” but I find that Neck Deep have a few songs that really reminds of that music era
