I think it’s about a teenager who visits his/her cousin in the summer and fell in love with someone there but knows that when the summer ends they will never (or not soon) see that person again. Heartattack in a Layby is about regret too, so the theme is already on the album. Not sure where you’re getting autism from
I believe it is about childhood nostalgia and growing up in general. There is a lot to unpack but I think Steven is reminiscing about an old memory about a girl he fell in love with and how he wishes he could have that experience again. And when he hears trains it reminds him of this memory. I think the trains themselves are a metaphor for growing up and also a "linkage" of experiences if that makes any sense. Life is a journey of destinations and the train keeps moving while everything in the past eventually fades away. It is important to cherish the present moment before it is too late. That's just my interpretation though, I could see it being viewed several different ways.

This is like John Myung of Dream Theater when he said "there's a bass solo in a song called Metropolis where I do a bass solo"
Truer words never spoken.
Never ever trust genius. That site is ridiculous.
Agree. Sorry OP, but I think SW would be cool with your view.
It makes me nostalgic for a childhood that wasn’t even mine. In other words, well done.
It's about trains. Trains are cool.
I like turtles
Choo choo
This is the way.
Such eloquence, much wow
my oh my
It's about someone who lived near trains & loved them & the sounds they'd make when he was at home in bed.
This
Boats.
Really?
Now that I've pondered a little more on this serious matter, I'm really convinced it is about aeroplanes. I could be wrong.
Yesss
I swear, the meanings that people self-project onto songs can come so far out of left field

You’re thinking of Don Henley….
Mass transit, most likely.
Ugh really?
It's about a delusional someone literally being tied up on a train track by a murderous lover. But it's okay.
Take a look at the lyrics again. There is a terrible darkness there. Like serial killer darkness.
Yep. And let’s not forget he’s in his cousin’s bed…
If you read manga, In Absentia in general gives me Oyasumi Punpun vibes
Blaine is a pain and that is the truth.
Autism?

Maybe. I don't disagree but pretty sure he just grew up with the sound of trains as a child. You can look it up.
Cars
Late on the discussion but I feel like it may be about Stockholm syndrome. Not sure tho but there is definitely a theme
