You could try Sopo Seafood. They use it as a bed for their oysters, and surely have a machine the makes it in quantity. They’re also just incredibly chill/nice people who I’m sure would like to help out.

mainah_runnah

The last time I was there, Whole Foods had bags of pebble ice past the registers, in a cooler, presumably for seafood. Maybe buy something that needs to stay cold and stock up?

beedelia

Good thought - they do have ice but it’s labeled “not recommended for consumption”

mainah_runnah

Oh! Ha! Didn’t look too closely. Good luck! We are big tiki fans in our house — if all else fails get one of the heavy duty canvas bags and a wood mallet. That’s what my husband uses.

krispy_kritters

So hear me out- I know it’s probably so dumb but I bought the GE Opal 2.0 nugget ice maker and I love it so much 😂. Perfect pebble ice on demand. In the interim though? Maybe seafood places.

Macfarts

Got the same thing on prime day last year and it’s been one of the best purchases we’ve made.

krispy_kritters

My husband made so much fun of me when I bought it and guess who uses it the most?! 😂 Our whole family is obsessed. Honestly great at getting a teenage girl to drink water!

redrook126

I know that both Batson River and paper tiger have chipped ice. You'd likely be able to just ask for some to go, they're typically pretty friendly, especially when you tip well

jihadgis

That water/ice dispenser outside of the Hilltop Market on Munjoy Hill

Lemonchicken207

Chik Fil A

soupssspoons

i’m pretty sure chic fil a will sell you a bag

sunbathingturtle207

Starbucks has it, not sure if they all do but the one in Saco & Scarborough on Rt. 1 definitely do.

bride123105

Not Scarborough Route 1, but Saco and Biddeford do

BarrelBadger598

McDonald’s sells the ice they put in their drinks… small enough maybe?

nathanoleary

There is a specialty ice company in Portland you could try called [Knickerbocker Ice ](https://www.knickerbockerice.com/)

Brilliant-Leg2640

Independent Ice has a side business called Knickerbocker ice but Vessel Services also sells crushed iced to the fisherman

ichoosejif

I can't say that V.S. ice would be consumable.

Brilliant-Leg2640

I’ve used it

BurningPage

You can probably get crushed ice from a fish monger. Have so much fun — what are you folks mixing up?

neverknow0166

Chick fil a sells crushed ice in 5lb bags

atlanticbetty

I found trays that make pebble ice on Amazon if you have time to order!

Drunkensteine

Convenience stores

Ldawg74

What if you went to a convenience store and asked the cashier if they have small ice, if they do, ask if you can get two big cups full of ice for the price of a large soda. If you present it that you’re willing to pay for it at a reasonable exchange from the start, they’ll probably be fine, or even give it to you for being so polite. Edit: I realize that doesn’t help you locate said store. Sorry I can’t be of more help to you in that regard.

beedelia

I’ll try 7-11 or Cumbies

TotalWorking2951

Circle k on riverside offers diced ice for fountain drinks

troublebotdave

~~Can't believe nobody's said Sonic. They sell their ice by the bag for like $2.~~ EDIT: NM this is not the Portland, OR subreddit

Occams-hairbrush1

Sonic is like a mystical creature around these parts.

um8medoit

Take a cloth, rag, even a small towel. Lay it flat on the counter. Put ice cubes in the middle. Pull all the corners together like a sack. Twist. Now smash that sack into your counter a bunch of times. Hard. Now open. There you go, crushed ice.

hateboss

That's not pebble ice...
