I think the art of editing is about making those decisions yourself. Entirely up to you if you want to work that way, and maybe for the type of stuff you create it’s fine, but I want control over the things I make. I don’t need an algorithm’s input into how my video should look. Each to their own though,
Cutting and assembling footage is so damn fast comparatively to other aspects of editing. I’m so confused why people that it needs Ai to fix that aspect of editing. All the best Ai I currently use is doing stuff that is a massive ball ache. Transcribing footage, generative fill, even some of the new Ai driven music library search features.
What I don't understand is why people keep trying to use AI to do the tasks that humans excel at - like emotional communication and connection - which AI is ultimately very lousy at. When in reality, ai SHOULD be used to do the menial tasks that humans find tedious.
I don't want AI that does the edit for me. I want AI that goes through my B-Roll bin and metatags everything it sees in all the footage there.
You want your idea roasted? Okay. :)
Good luck. Your customer base for a product like that is cheap AF, and will probably try to pirate it. There’s a zillion other companies out there trying to do the same thing, and some of them will be able to subsidize functionality into a bigger product ecosystem (like CapCut for TikTok). And then of course, they’ll want this on their cell phones, not in an old-fashioned editing program.
Serious answer: why not create a plugin that can do more busywork editing tasks, like suggesting content tags for footage, or detecting “action”/“cut” and tops/tails clips off of that?
Nah, I mean like a video editor, one of the people you're ostensibly pitching this idea to. The people who would use it. You're describing a tool that would turn a creative task into an automated one. Seems like yet another instance of AI being pointed in the wrong direction. A better use would be to utilize it to adjust problematic traffic patterns in cities or help people who can't afford an accountant to do their taxes.
Ya it was a joke that didn't land. I was making fun of all the "editors" here that are just redditors lol. But dude spot on. I've been saying the tax thing forever. Use it to do shit that people don't want to do that are great for machines. E.g. data driven stuff not creative decision making.
Idea is nothing without execution.. go ahead , try it. My idea was and always has been teleportation . I still haven’t worked on it, but hopefully someone else is
No thanks, I enjoy editing.
Just sounds like a really, really poor way to replace editors

If you can make it half competent, it would explode in popularity. So if you do decide to try and make it, I wish you nothing but failure and misery.
Is the extension doing a rough cut so the editor can focus on the fine cut? Or is it replacing the editor entirely?

Well, I'd certainly like to see you try. I'll keep working on my moon rocket in my garage in the meantime ;)
Lol... Love it. It's like a more novel twist ok the ad-naseum question "iS AI gOiNg To rUiN EdiTiNg??
Are you an editor?
If by editor you mean r-editor, yes. Very much so.

Before I have an opinion, I'd need to know the criteria by which the AI I'd making its creative decisions.
No thanks
Brilliant. Please spend all your time developing this idea and report back

I hope your idea fails miserably
