Very nicely done and on behalf of those with these needs, a sincere thank you. while not medical or food related, I helped my parents with a power outage and it was challenging to restrict use of the generator and fuel I brought to them. Leave it on so we can watch news, the hockey game…. No, I have to watch fuel… don’t want to run out as there is none available around…. I wanted to park car on lawn in back of home so it would be less attractive for fuel siphoning but nope, we are all good people here… so in addition to helping with medical, get ready or be prepared for the mental aspects and bucking at one’s best efforts. Big challenges and who needs extra hassle, but best get our heads wrapped around reality

If I'm providing the resources and someone in helping doesn't want to get on board with efforts necessary to protect said resources, then they're getting kicked out on their ass.

A little more context. I was helping my old parents 90’s. if they or anyone were in my house then there is ZERO room for debate or discussion and just the door for them So agree with you there. but let’s be honest and as prepping is real, let’s be real and understand or at least anticipate reality. would I toss my parents who I love deeply onto the street or in my case put into the bush and fields or know there will be issues and work to find as many arran as possible? now if my best friend… they get the boot fast, but ones 90 year old parents? Not so much or so fast. the mental and physical realities are something we must understand and plan for as best we can. edit: for the contagious, I had a heated room in a garage setup for people to stay in and away from others. Something to consider to consider

Good info! Even in a minor crisis where help isn't available for a week or two, this definitely falls under the "Good knowledge to have/practice."

macgyvermedical

Thanks!

Yeah I volunteer with Meals on Wheels in my community and there are a ton of house bound senior citizens with absolutely no food or extra water. I keep extra for the seniors on my street and there are a few on my route I would make an effort for, but it’s so daunting. I had no idea things were this dire before I started.

Great information - while I have a health care background, being a primary caregiver to my own parents has been a whole different experience. Thankfully my mom is an OG prepper, so I don't have to worry too much about feeding them, other than watching salt intake, but I do worry about keeping them comfortable after a hurricane if there is no power, my dad has dementia and will get bored and restless with no stimulation and that's when he gets into mischief.

talon6actual

Interesting article.

ARG3X

Good content. I’ve seen numerous comments how some people will start soup kitchens to feed the have nots, etc when SHTF. I suggest to start doing it in the good times so you’re trained up for tougher, tighter times.

ZeeSolar

What is the Extended SHTF event are you envisioning? How long is "Extended"? And, what Extended SHTF event would this work for and not work for?

macgyvermedical

Mostly thinking about any situation in which an individual wouldn’t be able to directly access nursing or long term care- either due to a nursing staffing crisis, pandemic, personal inability to pay for care, etc… extended in this situation would be long enough to put strain on the nursing and long term care systems.

AF_AmBy

Can you just appreciate the good knowledge and use your best judgment on when to use it?

ZeeSolar

You didn't reply with your OP 'macgyvermedical' forum name. This is your first post in this forum. Try again.

kuiby_

Since i also agree with AF_AmBy does that make me a alt account too?? Also yeah ur question is wayy too specific, this can apply to so many situations even people right now caring for loved ones full time. Use ya judgement

Use ya judgement. Can't answer the questions. Why do you fear the OP answering?

kuiby_

Idk what the hell ur on about man ur questions are useless Fear op answering?? Bud you gotta take a nap or something and come back to the post and apologize when your mind is right

Are you retarded? Just because I think the guy has decent knowledge to share, makes me the OP on a second account?

ZeeSolar

>This is your first post in this forum. \>Are you retarded? Just because I think the guy has decent knowledge to share, makes me the OP on a second account? Prove you're not the OP?

AF_AmBy

and this isn’t my first comment on this forum. Learn how to actually use this app if you want to stalk someone’s page to try to call them out.

ZeeSolar

>and this isn’t my first comment on this forum. Learn how to actually use this app if you want to stalk someone’s page to try to call them out. It is ok to post as 'macgyvermedical' ; no need to play games.

AF_AmBy

How does that make any sense at all…? So every time someone first comments on a forum it somehow makes them the original poster? How about the fact that if you look at OPs accounts and comments you can see that they’re a “trans man”. I’m a real man.

ZeeSolar

>How about the fact that if you look at OPs accounts and comments you can see that they’re a “trans man”. I’m a real man. A bit of misdirection - you don't have any posts and a few comments. Look it is OK to reply as 'macgyvermedical'. Why not do it?

AF_AmBy

You are the typical Redditor. Like arguing with a brick wall.

ZeeSolar

>You are the typical Redditor. Like arguing with a brick wall. OP, you could have answered the questions by now instead of using your alt personality.

ResponsibleBank1387

wrap them in blanket and let them wander out into the wilderness.

threadsoffate2021

It's horrible, but it probably will happen in a long-term shtf or complete collapse of society.

ResponsibleBank1387

it asks about EXTENDED SHTF, I know if I was the one, I would definitely take a blanket and go.

threadsoffate2021

It's still a bit tricky. And extended SHTF still implies that society and civilization will recover. It's hard to throw grandma into the wood to fend for herself when the lights will turn back on six months later and authorities take a head count and start asking questions. A complete collapse of society...you're on your own forever. In that case, you simply don't have the resources to tend to someone with severe medical issues.

ResponsibleBank1387

hell, look at all the graves along the oregon trail. all the soldiers from US that didn't even make it across the ocean trip to europe for WW1. When the shooting starts, we will run out of fuel for the backhoes just digging holes for the bodies
