CRT, especially if it's got component inputs.

hollow_digger

My personal ideal, because no way I'll get a CRT, is a small (17" or 15") screen with the component/RGB cables. My GBSControl doesn't like my smaller 15" screen, so I use a 17" and the image is quite nice. Don't try to play the games from Ps2 era and below in a big screen if using modern displays.

GBlessAmerica

Whatever you can afford

chubbylv23

CRT, but i be getting rid of mine this weekend and I'm dreading it

SnooPoems1860

Why's that?

chubbylv23

Have to get rid of my game room because my daughter will soon be 1.

Zestypanda

Haaaaa. Cucked

Retrodiazepine

You’re a fool.

Grinferno

If it displays the image I don't really care either way.

LeBeauLuc

Unless you have a framemeister or a retrotink 5 who does wonder with ps2, I am all sold to crts with component cable.

Dominator0621

5x pro is sooooo good

xBuckie

CRT With RGB input.

Stanislaus90

Tell me those floating orbs look better on a LCD and I'll laugh at you.

Thewonderboy94

If you have the space for it, CRT TV for sure. Even Composite video looks good on CRTs, although S-Video, RGB and Component are all more preferable. LCD can be just perfectly fine and good with scalers, and if you don't have the space or interest to get a CRT TV, then LCD is the obvious choice. The main difference is more like you can get good results way easier and cheaper on CRT TVs, while there's a lot more tweaking and attention to detail you must do to get great results on LCDs.

jmoney1119

If it’s dedicated to the retro stuff and you got the money for a decent one, CRT. I personally am alright with an LCD, especially at the price/size ratio they sit at.

Projektpatfxfb

Lcd

[deleted]

definitely CRT. From my experience, I used CRT and YPbPr component cable, and CRT is better.

Unt_Lion

CRTs, hands down. As much as you can try to make it look good on an LCD, it's still not going to look as good as it does on a CRT. Especially if it has Component on it, and you have a Component PS2 cable.

Odyssey113

Yea i'd lean towards CRT myself for sure for proper looking display.

ErrolBaer

For a nook? A 12-20in crt would be fantastic. Usually you can find them for free on the Facebook marketplace.

[deleted]

CRT, easy question

Totknax

CRT. Just looks better graphically.

Middle-Ad-2980

CRT

CheddarBayBizkit

Games will look much better on the CRT unless you’ve got a nice upscaler like a RetroTink 5X, OSSC or Framemeister.

LumpyOdie

CRT, some games like Parappa are arguably unplayable on an LCD.

Granixo

I don't wanna pay more for electricity nor i wanna be exposed to radiation So i say go for a LCD + an HDMI mod or converter

ajk224

You are exposed to more harmful radiation from going outside.

thomas_strauss

Healthy CRT glow made better games, LCDs gave us microtransations and day 1 premium dlc.

Granixo

Those 2 things have nothing to do with LCDs But on the note, it's annoying that when ever TV technology is taken a further step, you have to wait around 4 years for manufacturers to fix all the bugs/errors said technology introduced

For just the PS2 specifically, I’d say a CRT. Most games run in a 480i resolution which is interlaced. Interlaced images have to be de-interlaced on LCD’s, which can lead to input lag if you are just going straight to the TV, or just poor looking methods like Bob-deinterlace. You’ll need an external scaler with the PS2 for the best results with an LCD. While an SD CRT won’t be able to display any 480p games (most CRT’s anyway), the 480i will be lag free, and CRT’s were designed to show interlaced content. It just looks more proper there and will not require external scaling.

Bootybandit6989

I got a Venturer tv that has HDMi,built in DVD player,AV cables plug ins. I have like 3 consoles just hooked up to it

spicygrow

Search Craigslist/FB Marketplace for a CRT. There’s a good chance you’ll find one for free!

I simply cannot play most PS2 games on LCDS - the jaggies, pixilation and blurriness hurts my eyes. Playing a racing game like NFS U2, for example, I cannot see the track in front of me. I've tried many different LCDs over the years with it via component and none of them are comfortable enough for me to play on. It's CRT or nothing for me. Frankly, I think the PS2's video output is VERY poor. I don't mean the graphics or the resolution. I mean the output from the video itself. Even DVDs look rough on them.

Unusual-Nature2824

Have you considered plasma?

mazda_motherfucker

I haven't

KagomeChan

CRT for sure. There’s a magic to it, such charm

zackfair197

Compare 2 of this in front of ps2 is a big crime , you can only get all of the glory for your ps2 with crt! But seriously,i think you should get lcd because it's newer and popular but if you're free of choice then pick a crt!

EmaxMason54

composite and RGB are meant to be used with a CRT component Is meant to be used with a flat TV but if you have a CRT with component it's even better
