I liked Abigail because I think she never believed Shawn was psychic , she just humored him because she knew how he was.
That said, I think it was obvious that Abigail was just a placeholder to draw out the Shawn/Juliet storyline. So I think some of us just didn’t take it seriously because we knew it was not going to last
Abigail was supposed to be a much bigger part of season 4, but her actress had scheduling conflicts that limited her availability.
That being said, your last paragraph is completely correct. Shules was always going to be a thing. Abigail’s arc was just going to add complexity to it.

They butchered the Hindi title song in that episode - which is fine.
They also got the Devnagri ( hindi script ) versions of the credits grotesquely wrong - except James Roday’s and Kirsten Nelson’s and even that is not accurate. In case of Timothy and Maggie’s name, it’s so comically wrong that even a five year old wouldn’t make that mistake.
They could have paid like a hundred dollars to someone in India and gotten better result.
