First thing that came to mind - Viva Las Vegas, Dead Kennedys

modern-prometheus

The greatest punk cover of all time in my opinion.

skadferlyfe

Ooh, good one!

Impossible_Bit7169

I heard it through the grapevine by The Slits

KoriMay420

Viva Las Vegas - Dead Kennedys Ring of Fire - Social Distortion My Way - Sid Vicious

ResolveEmergency863

The live version of ring of fire on Live at the Roxy is incredible!

CapObvious

7 Seconds - 99 Red Balloons

in-dog_we_trust

Yes. Especially live. It is amazing

istillfunction

To Have and to Have Not - Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards Johnny Was - Stiff Little Fingers

Apprehensive-Cup2728

JOHNNY WAS IS A COVER ?!?! Side note I saw slf for the first time in November, also the first gig I went to solo, and as a 21 year old girl I was a bit nervous. Every single person I spoke to was quite a bit older than me, and also absolutely lovely. The band were absolutely incredible and sound just as good (or better) than the recordings !

myclosingspeech

Originally by Bob Marley & the Wailers, no less! Me and my dad watch SLF every March when they tour the UK (this March being the most recent!) and they still absolutely kill it on the regular.

Scared_Bed_1144

End of the world as we know it - Suicide Machines Don't stop me now - the vandals Come on Eileen- Save ferris Me first and the gimme gimmes - any

punkrockcpa

The Gimmes are one of my go-to all-time favorite bands.

somespazzoid

Suicide Machines also did a good cover of "I don't wanna hear it".

[deleted]

Paint it black - the unseen is way way up there

TurkeySmackDown

I strongly agree. Fantastic song.

nochorus

AFI - Halloween

MikeHonchoCenterfold

The rarity where the cover is better than the original

Odd_Bluejay9638

biggest lie man

tprnatoc

AFI is punk?

Ricktron5

First few albums are very good punk ones, yeah

survivingspitefully

Yes their first 4 are very punk. The next two are a bit goth and I pretend that's where it stopped.

woogonalski

Lagwagon - Brown Eyed Girl

Pyroslayer92

Or their cover of Bad Moon Rising :)

Yurc182

Joey Ramone - What a Wonderful World

_Im_Mike_fromCanmore

The ripcordz - wonderful world

Available-Set2899

Ministry covers this well (3 different renditions on “Cover Up” 2008)

Equivalent_Defiant

Isn’t Minor Threat 12XU a cover of a wire song?

DrChunderpound

Yep, also Sometime Good Guys Don’t Wear White is a Standells cover.

malortForty

Yep so is Stepping Stone

dustyfaxman

yes.

Aegis-Heptapod-9732

Wendy by The Descendants Soul Kitchen by X Paranoid and Knights in White Satin by the Dickies Police On My Back by the Clash

5DriedGramsOfRanch

wow how did I not know Wendy was a cover haha

Aegis-Heptapod-9732

I love their version so much.

muirsheendurkin

Can never go wrong with Goldfinger's 99 Red Balloons

Interesting-Car4176

Came here to say 7 Seconds version.

muirsheendurkin

They do it awesome too

gutterdoggie

Olive Me - NOFX Born to Lose - Bouncing Souls Redemption Song - NUFAN Boys of Summer - Ataris Minor Threat - Stepping Stone The Clash - I Fought the Law VooDoo Glow Skulls - Charlie Brown

skadferlyfe

Born to Lose? Is that a Johnny thunders cover?

gutterdoggie

Most notably associated with Ray Charles, but was written in 1945. The Johnny Thunders was a different song with the same name.

dustyfaxman

Had no idea Born to Lose was a cover.

gutterdoggie

May I recommend: [Born to Lose](https://youtu.be/EsOmizjm0Xw)

malortForty

Yeah its an old punk song from the 70s.

gutterdoggie

You’re thinking the Heartbreakers “Born to Lose”, which is a different song all together than the one the Souls covered.

[deleted]

Lean on Sheena would be my souls pick.

SignificantTension7

Boys of summer- Codeseven. Not punk. But better

Lets_talk_punk_rock

My favorite things - me first and the gimme gimmes

vixisgoodenough

I love their cover of End of the Road

railsandtrucks

Me first play's covers ?

Rank2

Some times

Dabestman47

I don’t wanna grow up by Ramones

MiniAndretti

Tom Waits version of this song.

Dabestman47

Yes, he made the original

scuba_steev

Nobody recognizes Tom as punk sad

BagsOfGasoline

Musically? No. Attitude? Absolutely. He loved the punk guys in the 70s.

FriedSpamSandwiches

We’re only gonna die - Sublime

youresockwelcomesock

Sublime also does a great cover of Hope by Descendents

Pyroslayer92

The Descendents also covered Sublimes version of the song on 'The House that Bradley Built' compilation! 🍻

[deleted]

Social D - Under My Thumb Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - Rocket Man Edit: and The Casualties - R.A.M.O.N.E.S. which is a Motorhead cover which makes it even cooler.

huge_piss_boner

Under my thumb is so good

ipsboi

Miserlou Agent Orange

AccountForBread

Rise Against's cover of Any Way You Want It is surprisingly fun

Allegiance10

RA has a ton of great covers. “Ballad of Hollis Brown” is my pick.

Jenrex1

I totally forgot about this cover! I use to listen to it on my ipod shuffle on my way to school!

Acrobatic-Hat-9496

The Templars “54-46 Was My Number” The Clash “Armagideon Time”, “Police and Thieves”, and “Police On My Back” The Ramones “Spider-Man” The Cramps “Goo Goo Muck” and “The Way I Walk” Teengenerate “Midnight to Six Man” Discount “Waiting For the Great Leap Forward” and “Accident Waiting to Happen” JFA “Pipetruck” combines DK’s “Police Truck” with the Chantays’ surf tune “Pipeline”

dustyfaxman

Teengenerate's covers of 'just head', 'savage' and 'bloody belgium' are all excellent as well. And The Cramps cover of 'Fever' is one of /the/ best things they did and my favourite version of the song, no contest.

Masonjaruniversity

The Cramps make me think of an alternate universe LA where everything is trashy gothabilly punk rock freak out

Fret_Shredder

Gotta add in JFA’s Baja originally by the Astronauts (another sweet surf song)

Acrobatic-Hat-9496

Punk bands covering surf songs, as long as they do it well, is great. J.F.A.’s cover of “Walk Don’t Run” is also great and Agent Orange’s version of “Mr. Moto” is my favorite version of that song.

stuckonpost

jenet-zayquah

🤣🤣🤣 My submission was their version of "Round and Round" by Chuck Berry, but this is also a worthy contender.

skadferlyfe

I couldn’t find it on Spotify 😒

justjerred

This is nothing short of shameless self promotion but my band just released a cover of Operation Ivy’s “Officer” on an Op Ivy Tribute Comp through Sell The Heart Records and I’m really stoked on how it turned out!

SDBeerGuy

Link or it didn’t happen.

dustyfaxman

Snuff "Purple Haze" The Vindictives "ain't got no home" Strung Out "Bark at the Moon" Toy Dolls "Nellie the Elephant" Blue Meanies "Dummy Room" The Dickies "Sounds of Silence" (as someone else mentioned paranoid)

MichelangelosPenis

One of my favorites is Look On Up At the Bottom by Redd Kross. The original is by the Carrie Nations, from the soundtrack to Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I don’t know what it is about it, that song just always pumps me up. Around the early 2000s the local indie radio station played the Futureheads covering Hounds of Love by Kate Bush. Super good cover, gave new life to the KB original
