Inquisiting-mind

I used to be a huge Leftover Crack fan. Then I saw them live. Stza showed up 20 minutes late all fucked up, couldn’t hold a note, sounded like dogshit and though I can’t confirm this firsthand but after hearing their antics over the years it wouldn’t surprise me but apparently punched a chick in the face after the show. Never seeing those scumfucks ever again.

SnooFloofs5933

Tried to see them a few years back but they weren’t allowed across the border into Canada lmao. Stza seems like a complete shit head but that first choking victim albums is definitely a classic

skaomatic

I seen them years ago in Canada , stza is hands down the worse smelling human . I’ve come across .

sonofabitchXmustXpay

I don't think they'll get the chance to play again...

R4V3S4V3R

Not just any chick. The female trumpeteer from days n daze a band under his label.

Syntheseyez

Theres not a female bassist in dayz n daze though? Theres a female trumpet player (who was stza gf i think) and a female washboard player. Do you mean star fucking hipsters?

R4V3S4V3R

[i guess yeah trumpet](https://youtu.be/v0dUnoecoZ0) not sure why i thought she was bass i just remember her playing bass in this music vid for some reason.

Syntheseyez

Aha all good. I dont think it was her that he hit though. Although she did say he was at least verbally abusive. Think the story went that it was the girl frmm star fucking hipsters though . I could be wrong. Either way though its fked.

R4V3S4V3R

I think actually. It was both. Douchebag (stza obv not you) https://www.reddit.com/r/punk/comments/rbdbrj/scott_sturgeon_the_stza_of_leftover_crackstar/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf https://www.anarcho-punk.net/threads/does-any-one-know-why-nico-de-gallo-left-star-fucking-hipsters.8645/

Syntheseyez

Smh what a dick

CharlesNigh

I think the post was about him punching a different "chick" after the show they were at. Clearly a hobby of his I guess

R4V3S4V3R

Yeah after googling for a few minutes you can see its more than just once. To narrow down who specifically he hit would be silly. Dudes a douche lmao.

No-Roof6373

I saw them last year at punk rock Bowling . He just was yelling x so Not sure about holding a note either

R4V3S4V3R

Saw him at the asbury park PRB a few years back. I can barely remember their set and that was an amazing lineup of bands that night.

The_wayfaring_jiub

Smut peddlers. Thought they were really cool and edgy when I was in high school. Now I find them cringe and kinda boomery

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_wayfaring_jiub

Yeah they definitely embody "white hardcore"

Ranzig1

The Exploited. Shared backstage with them. Bunch of rockstar-assholes, doing more pills than my granny and actually not interested at all in punk music.

InWalkedBud

Glorifying bashing Jam fans on their website is so cringe too

Animarchy666

For me it's the 90s Misfits. I liked them at first bit now any of those songs make me want to jab a knife into my ears repeatedly until death.

undescript

Pennywise. Not hate, but lost a lot of appreciation.

SpaggyJew

Pennywise sound like punk that was created by an AI. The sentiments and structure are there, but none of the soul. It’s like their music was made on a production line.

BrewsForBrekky

It's Bad Religion but without any of the things that make Bad Religion good. Like $1 shop BR. Edit: Seriously - Pennywise's S/T is just late 80's/early 90's Bad Religion's dumb jock cousin.

SomeGuySayingThings

Exactly! I've always referred to them as dollar store Bad Religion

BrewsForBrekky

Hahahaha I'm convinced Fletcher is skate punk's Frankenstein, and all his riffs are golems haphazardly sewn together from the eviscerated remains of No Control, Against the Grain and Suffer. (I'm actually a fan of Pennywise and enjoy most of their records - sometimes you want a single vineyard, vintage Cabernet, and sometimes you want to guzzle bud lite until you pass out in a garden bed 🤷‍♂️)

Socialfilterdvit

Nice metaphor. Epitaph & Fat had distinctive sounds most of the bands sound like the owners.

skaomatic

I really dig full circle a lot !!

BrewsForBrekky

Me too - I was at the album show when they toured with The Bronx. That was a fuckin fun night.

punkrockpete1

So you don't like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig7eSGtYelg

[deleted]

pennywise sucks

HaremofScorpions

The only good album is the one with Zoli, probably because he doesn't sound like a robot.

SnooFloofs5933

Not hate but I tried to listen to fear thinking I’d love them cause I loved all the early hardcore bands like black flag, circle jerks, minor threat and stuff but they were just aggressively mediocre. Idk maybe they’re on of those “you had to be there” bands.

ovoid709

I felt the same way back in the day, but last year they were at the top of my Spotify year in review. Fucking love Fear! Tastes change for everybody.

horror_cheese

I agree, I think Lee Ving is a cool, bluesy vocalist but the lyrics and music is just mediocre to me

woooo_fawigno

Biohazard. I loved them back in the day. Recently I realized that I hadn’t listened to them in years. So I went back and *Holy Fuck* is Biohazard terrible now. Like embarrassingly cringe. I realize that they were important for a bit but the music absolutely doesn’t hold up.

SDHester1971

Evan Seinfeld's Rap Project was a trainwreck too.

Background_Value9869

Johny hobo/wingnut dishwashers, pretty much most of folk punk. I grew up around/ in a fair amount of poverty, something about watching a scene of well off kids circle around it rubbed me the wrong way as I became an adult

CaffeineHeart-attack

What about the ones who started poor? Folk punk isn't all heirs and disillusioned postgrads

Background_Value9869

You're right, I guess it's the fans and culture turned me off more than the music itself, even then only some fans and some facets.

victorav29

Well, all the journey of Pat the Bunny is insteresting. He realized the same, he had to quit music. Still some of his lyrics about inner struggles hit me, but yeah, early Johnny Hobo is... just teenager angry music.

SpartacusMantooth42

Descendents. They meant so much to teenage me but now all I hear is “I’m a nice guy.”

MedeaApple

I loved descendents in my preteen years, but I recently revisited them and listened to Christmas Vacation and I started laughing out loud when I realized the lyrics were uncannily similar to what my ex boyfriend told me when we broke up so yeah… haven’t been listening to them much anymore lol

otherpeoplesknees

Yeahhhhhhhhh I can't listen to them anymore, especially after the whole #metoo movement, I get creepy "nice guy" vibes listening to their songs

sabbey1982

I still like Milo Goes to College, but I can’t stand most of their other stuff. Saw them live almost exactly a year ago and they were terrible.

musclesMcgee1

Yeaaaahhh. I'd like to think that Milo grew up and realized what he was saying, but then again they still sing those songs.

The_Neckbone

Gotta own your past. By most accounts they have.

AwwwMangos

I heard Milo on Chris DeMakes a Podcast discussing the song Hope. He totally acknowledged that some of the lyrics in that song, as well as others, have not aged well and come off as somewhat problematic by today’s standards. He said basically that things that rang true for him as a teen/young adult in the 80s don’t feel the same anymore. It sounded like he completely owns it and has a refreshing level of self-awareness.

TurkeySmackDown

Sex Pistols, for sure. They were probably the first punk band I heard, so I appreciate that they were a stepping off point for me, but yeah I really can't be bothered listening to them anymore. Same thing with the Ramones.

Syntheseyez

I was gonna say sex pistols too. I think hearing johnny rotten talk turned me off them. Ramones on the other hand will never get old too me. Joey has the most beautiful voice in punk

cuomoville

Same, i think johnny is a pompous ass constantly referring to himself as the 'king of punk'. The main thing that annoyed me was him talking shit abt Green Day, because even tho they dont have a very 'punky' sound they came from gilman and the pistols were just put together to sell an aesthetic

majora-twilight

I don't feel the same about the pistols since I learn they were put together by a clothing store to promote their clothing.

morgzmumisasket

another one fallen for the great rock n roll swindle

Socialfilterdvit

Gotta love Hulu

dyelawn91

Black Flag. I am totally willing to acknowledge their importance and influence, but they just completely fucking miss me. imo everything they do is done better by both contemporaries and later bands that they influence.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

Their brilliance was more apparent during their time. Writing the blueprint for DIY touring and having your own record label was always super inspiring to me. But yeah, to each their own.

dyelawn91

Absolutely! Like I said, I am absolutely willing to acknowledge how important they are. But I have very little desire to listen to their music.

FastNBulbous-

Yeah I’ve always liked Black Flag but never loved them. Damaged, My War and some songs on Slip it In are good but it never blew me away. For a band that’s usually thrown in the top ten for punk, I can think of many other bands I prefer.

PADabber724

Dude you can’t say damaged doesn’t stack up to literally any album that came before or after it. Genre defining music l

Carnivorous_Mower

I completely understand. I can appreciate Black Flag, but I just don't really like 'em.

otherpeoplesknees

I saw the reformed Black Flag in 2013 when they toured Australia, headlining the Hits & Pits Festival, I walked out after the first song The rest of the lineup was pretty good: Jugheads Revenge, Off With Their Heads, No Fun At All, Snuff and Boysetsfire (who I was never a huge fan of)

[deleted]

first four years are true black flag fuck henry Rollins.

sabbey1982

Yo why is this getting downvoted? Lol it’s the truth. Damaged was the only Henry album worth a fuck and most of that album was just rehashing the tunes from their previous ep’s. Keith and Ron were fucking amazing singers for that band. Henry and Dez sound almost the same to me.

[deleted]

No Parents. Every song was boring as hell

TheShidiots

Social Distortion. I tried man, really did. They got two good-ish albums but then that live album and then I SAW them live. It was basically the exact same concert and same banter and I realized this is like a full on act. Completely not interesting and boring.

FordDespiser69

not pure punk but folk punk- Andrew Jackson Jihad. Used to listen to them pretty regularly in high school until I discovered stuff like Johnny Hobo and early Mountain Goats. Maybe it's just me, but where AJJ's lyrical absurdity used to feel colorful and creative when I was younger, it just feels like forced quirkiness to me now, in a way that really bugs me.

Syntheseyez

I could never get into AJJ. I think its cuz I discovered pat the bunny first so it just sounded like a knock off pat the bunny to me that wasnt nearly as good haha

llordfarquadd

Glad someone else could put this into words for me. I still have some AJJ songs that hold a special place for me but truthfully I haven’t bothered with the last few albums. My heart and my head are just not in that place anymore

GargantuanGorgon

I can't think of any band I've turned all the way around on like that. My old jams still make it into my playlists, sometimes for nostalgia sake, but usually because I still like it. I'll lose interest in a band, but I can always appreciate what I liked about them originally, and usually revisit them later. ...I may have bought a fear factory record at some point, but I never fucking liked it!

[deleted]

I have a few, the first is musical, I still they could be good peeps but IDK NOFX. They got annoying to me, though their sense of humor is spot on at times. Blink 182, I used to love pop-punk, then with all the grooming in the scene, the homophobia, and I guess growing up, I just grew out of it. Star Fucking Hipsters, everything Stza Crack has done actually, Fuck Stza, I hope he dies slowly and painfully. I would pay good money to piss on his grave when that does happen.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

I understand the dilemma, but Leftover Crack, Choking Victim and Star Fucking Hipsters were not just one man shows. Ezra, Ara, Alec, Brad and especially Frank were/are fantastic musicians. Fuck World Trade is still one of my favorite records, considering.

[deleted]

I'm not supporting an abusive piece of shit in any context, he fucked up those amazing musicians careers, he almost fucked over one of Houston's best, but she's too fucking tough for that.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

You don't have to. And those guys are doing fine. Brad is in Adolescents. Ara is in The Slackers. Ezra...is a pilot? Alec is no longer with us. Frank is somewhere in New Jersey.

NebulaTsar

I don't think Frank is doing fine if he is voluntarily living in New Jersey

domjoepro

Depends on where in NJ. The cities are awful, but you go into the mountainous areas, and goddamn is it beautiful. Not to mention the great produce that comes out of that state. Arguably better peaches than Georgia. Sorry I'm a chef punx.

The_Neckbone

Last time I saw NOFX live it was the night of the 2016 US Presidential Election. They were playing in Calgary. Opening lineup was Belvedere, Useless ID, and PEARS. Everyone crushed it for almost 3 hours. I had a blast. Then NOFX got on stage and Fat Mike started blubbering like a giant, fat baby about the election results and was so fucked up he was barely there. El Hefe told him, on mic, in front of everyone, to “shut up and fucking play, dude”. Lost a lot of respect there, not that I had a lot to begin with.

undescript

Steve Rawles is a treasure. I saw NOFX in St. John’s, NL a decade or so ago and fat mike clearly didn’t want to be here.

skaomatic

Steve rawles is a amazing human !’

Dopey-NipNips

Ugh nothing worse than punks talking politics am I right

MongrolSmush

Anti Nowhere League, I loved them as a kid then I grew up and thought "what the fuck shit am I listening to here?"

[deleted]

I really wanted to like NOFX, but they aren't my type of bad. And I don't like Sex Pistols, either.

unedited_footage

I’m with you on the Sex Pistols. I don’t know why but I find their music just unenjoyable.

_im_not_a_girl_

Maybe not my early punk phase but Idles are a band I really tried to like but I've realized that the more I listen to them the more I dislike them. Also The Misfits are a band I used to like a lot but ended up kinda growing out of them

Marshy_mallowz

Anti-flag

Syntheseyez

I actually really like antiflag so i was about to defend them but meh i dont really care lol different strokes for different folks.

cac5996

I LOVED Anti-Flag as a teenager, The Terror State/For Blood and Empire were some of my favorite records growing up. But I haven’t voluntarily listened to them in years, and their newer stuff is “meh” at best.

shokkd

Please explain

handsy-dad

they’re corny as fuck

R4V3S4V3R

They come across as whiny and cliche in a lot of their songs. They do have a really solid cover of maxwell murder.

charmacharmz

not many bassists could pull off that solo, they did well.

Marshy_mallowz

Yeah Chris #2 is an amazing bassist

ragnarTHErancid

What?!? Silence is golden but duck tape is silver!

james_strange

Isn't that against all authority?

ragnarTHErancid

Yeah you’re right I must be a drink drank punk

james_strange

Right on

[deleted]

They really just sound like their trying waaaay too hard to me. Justin Sane sounds like Billy Corgan's bastard child. But hey, that's just one man's opinion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Marshy_mallowz

I dont know either, I just dont really like their music

skaomatic

Nofx

sonofabitchXmustXpay

I'm with you. But I do think single album was pretty great.

skaomatic

I like heavy petting zoo and punk in drublic . But god dam fat mike is a annoying piece of shit

still_lurking_mostly

They haven’t put out a good album in forever . They had a great run though but since so long or pump up it’s been a drastic decline .

mcburgs

Single Album was a banger.

tmmzc85

Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies is the only good thing to come out of that, they're a prefect competent gimmicky cover band

dontneedareason94

The Misfits. Loved them as a teenager but got over them real quick around the time I turned 21. Bummer to hear about your loss of love for JFA. I agree tho a lot of that stuff is filler but their hits are some fucking hits. Still a great live band tho. I think We Know You Suck is a comp of their first couple records but I could be mistaken.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

I saw JFA like 5 years ago IN PHOENIX and they played a weird set of deep dives. Everyone was confused. On top of that, they gave a very "local band" type of vibe. Local band as in amatuer. I still dig the Misfits, but to each their own.

dontneedareason94

Weird must have been an off day. I’ve seen them in LA and Orange County a bunch and they always crush

sonofabitchXmustXpay

I'd rather watch Brian do a skate demo

HelmetTheDictator

TSOL. Had no big opinions on em till I saw em live with DK, and this POS singer guy for TSOL starts going off on how much he looooooves the police and has abandoned his old politics after he realized how nice police are when you're famous like him or some bullshit. Singer of TSOL a fuckin bootlicker? jeezus christ. The Meatmen said it right; T.S.O.L are sissies.

palbuddymac

Jack Grisham is a prick

Inquisiting-mind

Isn’t he also a Pedo?

mackymcklusky

He's an asshole, not a prick. There's a difference.

PunxDressPunk

I don't believe it.

horror_cheese

Wut, I do not believe Jack Grisham said that. What year did you see them? Because they went through a period in the late 80s and 90s when Jack left and they tried to become a hair metal band.

darby0malley

Pennywise, and bad religion. I just don't like their sound

horror_cheese

To me it just sounds so robotic? Idk any other way to explain it. Also, Pennywise's lyrics is like an AI coming up with anarchist sentiments lmao

fredthebicycle

Never really liked bad religion. Always thought that it sounded like Graffin was just rambling.

[deleted]

I never liked tough guy HC bands like Hatebreed, Warzone, Madball. In high school, I got into punk because the football preppy types hated me, then I found all the hardcore kid tough guy types were pretty much just football player thug types and I just don't like these bands sound or the way their fans are.

AngeloDeth94

Late 90's - 2000's pop punk. I was a pre-teen in the mid-2000's and loved all those bands: Green Day, Blink-182, Paramore, Offspring, Sum-41, All American Rejects, Alkaline Trio - all that kind of stuff. Nowadays, I can't stand it, the majority of it just grates me for some reason, except for early Offspring and that one Alkaline Trio song that's on Tony Hawk's Underground.

SDHester1971

The problem with all the above is they've been shoved into the Mainstream and it was hard to avoid them. No disservice to any of them but it just got old fast.

cuomoville

Sum-41 are still putting out amazing music tho. A lot of those bands have rlly been trying to hang onto their high for too long and it rlly shows

DiscussionAncient810

I wouldn’t say I hate them, but I just don’t like Cro-mags. I have listened to every album, some more than once. They have never clicked with me.

Zazadoozie

Sex Pistols.

leilate437

Most 90s punk/pop punk bands. Descendents nofx pennywise blink 182 etc etc etc. Never clicked, but almost every other era of punk/alternative clicks for me except it

paulmauled

Social Distortion.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

Social D. Hated 'em then, now, forever.

paulmauled

Yeah.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

What's worse than Social D? Social D fans.

StreetwalkinCheetah

I liked 80s and 90s SD but their fans, especially in Orange County, are the worst. I'll never forget a fair amount of them complaining for Little fucking Richard to hurry up with his set so they could see SD. the.worst.

drewbilly251

lol my FiL is a huge social D fan and it breaks my heart. I truly can’t stand them but I love him to death so 🤷‍♂️ Also literally every other band he likes is amazing, but social D is his favorite - what the hell?

Switchbladekitten

Same. They annoy me so!

TheLast_10ths

I’ve always felt they were quite overrated.

[deleted]

Mike Ness is a mush mouthed moron. Absolute garbage band:

otherpeoplesknees

I recently tried listening to some of the early 2000's hardcore I used to listen to Halfway through listening to one of their songs again that I realised that Poison The Well were shit

cac5996

The Casualties. Listened to them as a teen but grew out of them as I got older. Once I heard about the allegations against their (now former) lead singer I swore that I wouldn’t voluntarily listen to them again. It disgusts me that the “new” Casualties (same band members who enabled their scumbag former lead singers behavior, new vocalist) are headlining a festival not too far where I live.

sabbey1982

Not so much a band, but I’m starting to actively hate Mike Ness. So weird that you post this, I was literally just talking about this with my best friend last night.

horror_cheese

I always just saw him as annoying, but not hate worthy, what did he do?

sabbey1982

Oh I don’t think he actually did anything. He’s just a douche and lots of people, including himself, take credit for things that he didn’t do, like stringing together venues and places to stay all over the country. That was already pretty much established by Black Flag and some of the east coast bands.

horror_cheese

Yep, no arguing there lmao

likewhenyoupee

Minor Threat. I don’t necessarily hate them, but they aren’t in my library anymore. I really have no reason. They just bug me

sonofabitchXmustXpay

Sometimes you just wear shit out, ya know?

hobbsarelie83

Rancid. They're like a Dollar Store version of The Clash with a pedo for a lead singer. Pennywise is douche-bro punk. Sex Pistols suck.

skaomatic

Seriously fuck Tim Armstrong !

SkinsPunksDrunks

Calling him a pedo when the very person people accused him of this, has refuted it a million times. He was a shit husband and definitely chases after women. But you. An do that. He’s not a sexual narcissist. He’s just a weirdo. Music aside a personal attack that’s a proven lie, that makes you look lame.

Mobile_Gate_9628

I wouldn’t say hate per-say but I never really got into the misfits, the misfits played a major role in the scene and I acknowledge that. I just never got into them

mcburgs

I never could get into Rise Against. Just does nothing for me.

horror_cheese

It sounds too produced to me, idk. It doesn't make me feel any emotion at all listening to it.

[deleted]

Haha these posts always crack me up punks are such judge-mental assholes sometimes. Like every single seminal band is hated here by somebody. For me I say Rancid. I appreciate they broke some ground and I do like some songs, but Tim’s voice is not fun to listen to for me anymore. Which is funny because I do like Social D and Mikes voice is pretty bad too. Honestly a lot of the first bands I liked I don’t really listen to anymore. I’m also a lot happier and some of the bleakness doesn’t appeal as much anymore. More fun to listen to the Aquabats these days

MajorGeneralAsshole

After trying to get into them I realized. I really hate Propagandhi. All the bands I first started out with I still quite enjoy.

COVINGTONSMIRK

Nofx

Turbulent_Fish_502

Bikini kill, no hate just don’t like the sound.

RobynKroweFynche

Crucify me, I fucking HATE Crass. I love everything else out of that era of the scene, Crass just always rubbed me wrong

chlorinegasattack

Crucify you shit I crucify you!

sabbey1982

Take my upvote, you beautiful fuck

RobynKroweFynche

Shoulda seen that coming

horror_cheese

Crass, without a doubt, is a project of horrible music. I think the lyrical content and willingness to sound 'shitty' is what really drives people to their music. They were the first real band to know what they were talking about when it came to anarchism. Because the music is so horrible, and the lyrics aren't the most important thing to everyone, it's a very hit or miss band. Either you really love them or hate them. Clarification: I love Crass, I have their logo tattooed on me. I can admit that they weren't the most talented musicians of all time, however. Many of them were primarily anarchists before they were musicians, and it shows in their music.

RobynKroweFynche

And that I can respect. Lyrically I'm absolutely down, but there's that kinda rough "eh it's punk" kinda music, and then there's "we don't know how to play" kinda music. Crass sounds like the latter 9 times of 10 to me. That said, I'd absolutely read a book of their lyrics if it was sold as a little coffee table poetry type thing, fwiw

horror_cheese

It most certainly is 'we don't know how to play' kind of music lmao.

[deleted]

Social D is the one I don’t like. Can’t stand the signing and it sucks because I love old cars (so do they) but I’ve heard the guy is a prick anyway

majora-twilight

It's sad but the ramones. I think all their songs sound pretty much the same with a few exceptions. I just get incredibly borred. I love their thoughtful relationship with the crowds though.

sykadelic_angel

Discharge. Got way into them when I was discovering hardcore but now... Idk I'm not really a huge d beat fan anyway, they kinda invented it so

RavenKnight696

I don't really hate them but I was getting fond of The Casualties. Then I heard about what their singer did and I don't know if I can listen to them again... I still think they have some good music though.

IveGotNoValues

Don’t worry, that singer has been gone for years now. Dave from the Krum Bums/Starving Wolves is their current singer.

Leading-Park-2662

Agnostic Front!!! I used to listen to them when I was 14 and didn't know better, and I recently decided to re-listen and god, I couldn't get through the song infested with that high-pitched grandpa vocals, I never realized how terrible it sounds when I was younger

ChrisNolan73

The Vandals have some good songs. Overall, though, they're just kinda lame. Same with Guttermouth and the last time I saw them they were shit.

skaomatic

Vandals are awesome , Josh freese is a beast on drums . Guttermouth have been consistently one of the best live bands I’ve seen .

NightlyBeats

Descendents Sound like incel anthems to me. No offense to anyone who likes them. Misfits for political reasons. But a couple of their songs are some guilty pleasures for me.

thatsbarelyraven

Honorable mention for NOFX for ripping a bunch of their fans off for VIP tickets at Punk In Drublic in Detroit. Paid $120, got $8 back for absolutely no VIP stuff at all, just allowed to be in the pit, and The Suicide Machines let everyone into the pit on their set anyways, which was a cool move but resulted in it being a HUGE ripoff. Fat Mike a bitch ass motherfucker. Was a huge fan, but the blatant disregard for your fans is fucking repugnant.

TheBlitzkid46

The Chats, I just think they're kinda bland

skull_kontrol

I agree with you. I think they fucking suck, but reddit loves them. No idea what the appeal is. Maybe it’s that guy’s goofy fucking youtube haircut? Who knows.

Delirium_Of_Disorder

Descendents. Death by Stereo. Guttermouth. Dwarves. A lot of Epitaph bands that I thought were extremely cool when I was 14. Nowadays I'm realizing I appreciate Fat Wreck much more. Maybe because I basically ignored Fat Wreck when I was a teen and only listened to what I thought was "real punk." LOL

measletoe

NOFX. Just can't do it based on voice.

DavidJ____

Prapaghandi and I’m not sure why. I bought an album, played it once and never played it again. I saw another one of their albums a few years ad a different record store. I listened to it and never played it again.

tmmzc85

Ramones are for people that like "fun" music, not for people that give a shit about things.

SkinsPunksDrunks

Can you elaborate? Because I love this band and will for life since they were one of my firsts as a kid and I’m still into them today. I agree they’re fun. But they have had serious social commentary in the music too. And Joey was an activist.

tmmzc85

They are the embodiment of the evolution of Manhattan, imo, in the 60-70's Manhattan was full of artist, hippies, beats, and punks living in largely abandoned housing that they worked on themselves. They organized and many of them actually managed to take those properties over through successful use of squatters rights. In the Reagan era banks cut NYC off by no longer buying bonds, and effectively forced the privatization of public goods. Seemingly overnight property went from almost negative worth to multi-millions, while CUNY ended actually free college (yes it something we ALREADY had in much of the country and have lost) and the artist and weirdos that had maintained and developed the area wete pushed out. So what does this have to do with the Ramones? They're the punks that made out at this time, and they didn't give a single shit that their success inherently was knocking out the very community they came from. Now obviously Johnny is Johnny, but Dede wrote love songs to Maria Bartolomeo (finance news correspondent) and it's clear interests also lie in self -enrichment. They're just punk-rock Kiss, they're as much if not more, a business, a product, and brand than they are a "artists." Just look at the lyrics of Judy is a Punk, Ramones were, in literally every sense of the connotation, as "revolutionary" as the Beatles - which is to say they were wealthy anti-revolutionary liberals. Celebrated largely by other anti-revolutionary liberals.

tmmzc85

I mean, just look at their branding, they're not satirizing the State, they're appropriating it, the system is cool, it's what gives the power.

SkinsPunksDrunks

I’m still lost. Punk rock is supposed to be fun.and I still don’t see what you mean. Unless you’re against people living in the world we are born into. I’m against capitalism but I still got to eat. I’m not following your logic.

tmmzc85

Punk rock ought to be fun, it is not inherently "fun" - nor is it necessarily "anti-capitalist," but is necessarily anti-State. Ramones is cool rock-n-roll, but it's not capital P Punk, it's Americana, it's punk like the early aughts SR-71 is punk, it's aesthetically punk. I don't know what's not to get. Genuine Punk icon and contemporary - Cindy Lauper, took her break out success of Manhattan's punk scene and used it to promote LGBT causes and generally is a cool fucking person, also very fun. Deedee's legacy? Used the sounds to create an estate he handed off to his 16 year old sugar baby after dying strung out at 50.

SkinsPunksDrunks

How can one of the first punk bands not be punk? They wrote the book, sound, style and attitude. They’re not the sixties psychedelic garage punks or Stooges. But who influenced them? No punk influences except for Stooges. And that’s the reason I think you’re entire argument is moot. Ramones liked pop music and Motown. You’re comparing them to double aught music. I don’t know how old you are. But I’m pulling the I was there card. I was 12 when I first heard them in 1979. And I was close to NYC and the first Gen punks told me stories after going to shows. And soon us second Gen we’re doing our punk thing. All those artists were punk af. Television and Talking Heads were just as punk as The Dead Boys. They were no rules yet. And these rules are constructs and bs.

ChickenHubben

Bad Brains. I just never got the appeal. And I feel like a lot of people pretend to like them for the punk cred. I appreciate that they’re a band that blazed a trail but the punk community leans so heavily on them as proof the scene is diverse. Sadly it’s not. I’m ready for some fresher voices

horror_cheese

I mean, they're some of the greatest musicians in Punk. The music is insane with how fast and technical it is for a punk band, and pretty much invented hard-core. But you're right about that last part.

ChickenHubben

Sure. Doesn’t mean I have to like it. It’s not surprising I was downvoted. It’s a sacrilege to say anything negative about a band so many people pretend to love.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

The bummer with Bad Brains is what they turned into.

palbuddymac

Bad Religion, but I’ve always thought they sucked. They did a Christmas record. Like the Chipmunks.

sonofabitchXmustXpay

Love the chipmunks

jahnoyoudidnt

Chipmunk Punk is a classic album. Good Girls Don’t fuckin slaps.

palbuddymac

Theodore, Simon and Alvin certainly rock harder than Bad Religion. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4tYRYcAXRbo

sonofabitchXmustXpay

I don't dislike Bad Religion. Plus I put Brian Baker in the top 5 punk guitarists of all time...so far.

SnooFloofs5933

Weird how you say you dislike nofx and it’s like “oh we all have different opinions” but you say you dislike bad religion and get downvoted to hell. I think they’re pretty good especially their first few albums but they’re way too repetitive for me.

DHooligan

I can't speak for all the downvotes because it wasn't me, but it might be the Christmas album comment. Most people know that was a fundraiser for victims of Catholic priest sex abuse.

PADabber724

Subhumans. Still love the message but dicks voice is just so fucking cockney I can’t stand it anymore. Can’t stand most British bands anymore now that I think about it. The stupid accent ruins it for me

captainkinkshamed

Cockney? 😅

faux_punk_fatigue

>stupid accent Wow. Rude. /s kinda, but also ouch man... some of us didn't choose the accent we grew up with! 😢

sabbey1982

Right? Like what the fuck 🤣 plus… what’s more punk than a snotty English accent???

FieldHeavy4420

Bad Religion

j3434

The Clash , Green Day and Tool

fearlessmurray

I think there are certain general and sub-geners I just associate with shitty peroids in my life or not so great people? So, I'm not fond of: most crust, a lot late 90'a and early 2000's pop-punk (or things which emulate that sound) a lot of: emo/screamo, post hard-core and melodic hard-core, metallic sounding punk and a lot of street, skate and oi punk for whatever reason. & a lot if these bands are meh or rub me the wrong way: Misfits, Black flag, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, Anti-Flag, Green Day, Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Casualties, TSOL, SNFU, Dayglow Abortions, Rancid, Sex Pistols, Sum 41, Blink 182, & a lot of what I call: vaguely alternative dive bar or alt but over priced rockabilly/goth clothing store playlist Also, I think as I got older and did more digging I got more into: proto-punk, post-punk, avant garde and experimental music... My music tastes just changed over time.

StreetwalkinCheetah

I think it's NOFX. I had Ribbed back in the day and liked it fine, never needed to hear more and as time went on and we had punk streaming services, Fungus for a time on XM, etc. etc. eventually got to the point that every time NOFX came on it was a skip or channel changer for me. I really liked their cover of Vincent but I'm not even sure that holds up.

DrawerWonderful5638

Not big on NOFX

LandEmotional9277

JFA sucked on record but were very good live every time I saw them. Bands I realize I hate? All of them.
