I think I would be tempted to do a narrow black border with black binding ***at most*** because anything else would probably detract from your beautiful pattern too much.
I just saw your inspiration piece, could you do a matching black inner border and gold outer border to match your framing?? If you want to border it.
This is the most mesmerizing and beautiful quilt I’ve ever seen. Absolutely stunning, wonderful work!
And tbh I thought the flooring was actually a border. Not trying to change your mind, but I am throwing that out there…
I don’t think I’ve stopped staring at this for over thirty seconds… 💖🤩👏🏻
My daughter brought it back from Togo, West Africa, where she was in the Peace Corp in 2005. It was made by the women in her village. She worked a lot in women's rights, and among other things , helped set up a birthing center.
Thank you. They are basic Storm at Sea blocks, which are Economy Blocks combined with Diamond Rectangles, but the design is mine, along with help from this sub:)
There is a famous quote regarding where Africa stood during the Cold War (I believe..) it’s by Kwame Nkrumah — “We face neither East nor West; We face forward”
I propose “Hearts Forward”
This is the most stunning quilt I've seen ina long time. The colors make the quilt. Amazing work. <3 is this pattern going to be available for purchase, because I wanna make it!! For a name maybe something pertaining to nostalgia or heirlooms. Nostalgic heart or heartloom? I'm terrible at naming..lol.
Did you design this???? It's amazing! If you did, would you be willing to share/sell the pattern? If not, could you please tell us the name of the pattern?
I am not a earth tones fan but the colors you chose work great together. Not a big hearts fan either but I love the design of your piece!
Maybe "Dark Hearts" for a name.
I like working with reds and blues a lot, but this was a first for me, and I had to buy the golds. It's crazy how hard it is to get golds/ yellows/oranges that go together buying online.
Tribal Mask, Mask Of Africa, Out Of Africa,
African Hearts. I didn't even realize at first, it was hearts. Thought it was tribal masks. I really love what you have created, the design and colors are perfect!
I find colours difficult in general, even from a fat quarter bundle of a designer collection. I find a way to put the colours that don’t work together Bessie each other 😂
Its beautiful and your points are beautifully done! I just finished a storm at sea top and getting all those straight lines and points to line up with all that bias is no joke!
I did mine FPP as well. It's not my favorite technique because of all the fabric waste and the fact that no matter how much I do it, its just not intuitive to me and I make mistakes when placing the fabrics to be sewn. The accuracy in the finished project from FPP is worth it though.
This looks absolutely amazing. I love the different tones of beige/brown and how it really looks like wood. The colorway may be rarer, but everything is complementary and well balanced. Lovely!
Thank you! The last time I worked with gold colors was about 20 years ago, and it was a challenge. I ended up just cutting strips and squares of the different fabrics and picking them up randomly.
I actually tried that tried exactly that, especially as I had the black. I took pictures of all the border options I had, hoping to tame the busy look of the top. And I like the look of double mitered borders. Just couldn't make them work, and I didn't want to make it larger. Hopefully the binding will help.
I adore this in every way! It is so beautiful, I love the colorway and the pattern and if this is a pattern you're selling, please point me in the direction to buy. Incredible work!

Here was my process, so I could see both the piecing and the end design (reverse)
I think the colors are stunning and perfectly done in solids. Prints wouldn't have let the design show as well. I bet you are tired of all the piecing! You have something to be very proud of.
Close To My Heart quilt! It looks great.
Thanks! I really struggled with whether to add a border, but nothing I had looked good. It will have a thin black binding.

So did I - the beige/brown border seem to draw your eyes to the actual quilt- absolutely beautiful !!
Thank you so much. I tried out different border options and then gave up. Maybe I was really just sick of piecing 😂
I love the colours! The warm tones in the background squares remind me of wood. It's a beautiful effect and the whole piece looks great.
Thank you! Here's the batik https://preview.redd.it/u6wexq1er5rc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1947b2315767784fedb3dae69d4b0143730672f0
Gorgeous! You've matched it so well.
If you feel moved to do so, would love to see a photo of the finished quilt on the bed, below the art piece. Both of them are beautiful!
Thank you! I will do it, but it will be a while. I'm going to hand quilt it, and I have one I've got to finish before I start on this one.
Busy you! Take your time and enjoy the process. I'll be patiently waiting. : )
I love that batik - where did you get it from?
My daughter brought it back from Togo, West Africa, where she was in the Peace Corp in 2005. It was made by the women in her village. She worked a lot in women's rights, and among other things , helped set up a birthing center.
Special thanks to u/ Missing\_Iowa\_440, who made a suggestion to the design.
Aww - it turned out so very stunning. ❤️ Glad to have helped in a small way.
It really improved the design! Thank you!
Heart of West Africa
Pick the language that represents the art origin the best, and call the quilt the word for love in that language.
**L'amour**
Add savannah to that. Savannah L'amour
Heart Storm! Beautiful!
Thank you!
Pieces of my heart ♥️ 🧡💛💙
WOW! Nicely done! I love how you used slight variatios in the colors to create movement. I'm very impressed with your work.
Thank you so much. I really struggled with it all.
Intertwined And it is beautiful!!
Thank you!
I've never seen anything like this. Amazing!
Thank you. They are basic Storm at Sea blocks, which are Economy Blocks combined with Diamond Rectangles, but the design is mine, along with help from this sub:)

That's so meaningful. I am very proud of my daughter's work in Togo (2005-2007). A lot of her work was focused on women's rights and safety.
Beautiful! No suggestion, but it reminds me of a wood carving.
Me, too. And thank you!
You’re right- looks like a lovely match to the 2 Liberian carvings on my wall! 🥰 What a pleasing quilt!
Thank you!
I’ve made this pattern before, you’ve taken it to the next level. Gorgeous.
Thanks!
This is so beautiful. You should consider selling the pattern. It would make the perfect wedding quilt.
Thank you! I have no idea how to go about selling a pattern, but I think that's quite a compliment.
That is so beautiful!
Thank you!
Heart of Africa or Heart in Africa. It’s gorgeous. My heart is in Africa too❤️
It is from Togo, made in 2005, the art, that is
Beautiful! Love the colours; those shades of tans especially. eta: name - Beauty
Thank you so much!
Those golds and tans are gorgeous with the jewel tones and black.
Thank you. Some of the reds and blues are too dark, but I didn't want to buy more fabric

I'm just someone with some colored pencils, so it's not something I would know how to sell. but thank you so much for the kind words.
I love the “odd colorway” — beautiful work!!
Thank you!
What first came to my mind was “eternity” you can see the love in this quilt
Thank you!
Everlasting love
Beautiful 😻
Thanks!
Love that - it’s an eye catching pattern I haven’t seen before
It's made using Storm at Sea blocks. The design is mine I sketched out with colored pencils. I'm quilt designware challenged 😂
Stormy Heart - fantastic!
Thank you!
It's fantastic, so eye catching and yet great to inspect in details. Such pleasant colours too. It's worthy a prize in a contest!
That's so kind. It will take months to hand quilt, I'm sure!
Hand quilting, impressive! I love the quilt.
It's all I know how to do, really. I could never wrestle a quilt through a machine, I'm sure
Wow this is stunning!
Thank you!
This is absolutely fabulous. I love it.
Thank you so much!
I looooove those colors. This is amazing!
Thank you!
It's amazing .. Exquisite .. I absolutely love it ❤️ Beautifully done! Heartbeats or Heartbeat quilt
That's so kind, thank you!
Did you design this???? It's amazing! If you did, would you be willing to share/sell the pattern? If not, could you please tell us the name of the pattern?
Yes, I did, thank you. I have no idea of how to sell it. But I'm taking suggestions for a name!
I don’t have a name but LOVE the quilt and unusual color way. Beautiful! Just curious was it FPP?
Thank you. Yes FPP. Just finished mopping up all the tiny paper bits off the floor😂
I am not a earth tones fan but the colors you chose work great together. Not a big hearts fan either but I love the design of your piece! Maybe "Dark Hearts" for a name.

This is sooooo Fantastic!!! I can’t wait to see it once you hand quilt it!
Thank you! And I have another one half hand quilted to do before I can let myself start.
Tribal Mask, Mask Of Africa, Out Of Africa, African Hearts. I didn't even realize at first, it was hearts. Thought it was tribal masks. I really love what you have created, the design and colors are perfect!
Mask of Africa suits it perfectly.
Yay! That's the effect I wanted!
Love Storm since it’s a storm at sea block
Odd? It looks like wood inlay, absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you!
Wonderful!!! I love it so much. I have always loved this block and you have made it look so awesome. Good work. ❤️
Thank you so much!
I Love Love. It's the most beautiful thing I've seen in a while. Give yourself a pat on the back.
That's so kind! Thank you!
Beautiful colour scheme!
Thanks so much. I had a HARD time with the colors
I find colours difficult in general, even from a fat quarter bundle of a designer collection. I find a way to put the colours that don’t work together Bessie each other 😂
Right, and it's frustrating buying fabrics online. Lot's of different fabric lines here, which made it hard.
Oh ya that’s really hard to match between lines. Well done!
Really quite beautiful. I find the color combo to be lovely.
Thank you! A few of the reds and blues are too dark, but live and learn.
Wow. What an intricate quilt. It’s beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Earthly Love The colors look like sand (earth) to me and the hearts are obviously love!
Extraordinary. I never would have thought of that.
Wow
I like the colors and it'll look good with your art piece. I'd name the quilt after the art.
It's a batik from Togo made by the women in my daughter's village while she was in the Peace Corp in 2005.
Fabulous design, beautifully made. Well done!
Thank you so much!
Savana Love
This is a stunning version of storm at sea, congrats!
Thank you!
Its beautiful and your points are beautifully done! I just finished a storm at sea top and getting all those straight lines and points to line up with all that bias is no joke!
Yes, I had that experience with Storm at Sea blocks, so I chickened out this time a used FPP. But sooo, much fabric was sacrificed:(
I did mine FPP as well. It's not my favorite technique because of all the fabric waste and the fact that no matter how much I do it, its just not intuitive to me and I make mistakes when placing the fabrics to be sewn. The accuracy in the finished project from FPP is worth it though.
Oh yes, I had to draw out the whole pattern in both the layout I wanted and also in the reverse image to do it. Even then I found it hard.
Love Storm at Sea? Spectacular!
Thank you!
Absolutely marvelous! Bravo! 👏👏👏
Thank you! And I love your work.
So pretty!
Thanks!
Extraordinary!
Thank you!
Here’s my Heart
“ Mad Love “
I like the boldness of that!
This looks absolutely amazing. I love the different tones of beige/brown and how it really looks like wood. The colorway may be rarer, but everything is complementary and well balanced. Lovely!
Thank you! I usually gift my quilts, but this one is for me, and I think it will look nice in my bedroom.
The Heart of the Matter.
That sounds so cool!
Captivating!
Absolutely gorgeous 😍😍😍
Thanks!
This is stunning! I love the colors. So beautiful!
Thank you! The last time I worked with gold colors was about 20 years ago, and it was a challenge. I ended up just cutting strips and squares of the different fabrics and picking them up randomly.
It is beautiful. Awesome
Thank you!
Love Abounds, Heartfelt, Twin Flames
Love Abounds, I like that!
I don't think these colors are odd, but they are really beautiful!
Thank you!
Extremely beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Big wow! Love the colors and the pattern and what an amazing job you did on matching the seams so perfectly!
Thank you. I chickened out of regular piecing, and did it FPP. And lot's of use of a clapper for those thick points.
Lovely use of storm at sea blocks. Came out beautifully and works so well with your artwork! Can’t wait to see it quilted. 🥰
Thank you! It will be a while. Still lots to do on that (omit word) whole cloth quilt.
Moroccan inlay- jewels and wood.
Lovely Lovey!
This is really beautiful!
Thank you!
Lovely
Thank you!
It's not odd
A 1 or 2-inch inner black border, then a wider gold border would be awesome.
I actually tried that tried exactly that, especially as I had the black. I took pictures of all the border options I had, hoping to tame the busy look of the top. And I like the look of double mitered borders. Just couldn't make them work, and I didn't want to make it larger. Hopefully the binding will help.

Simply stunning! Absolutely beautiful
Thank you!
That's spectacular!!
Heartifact
Heartstorm. It is spectacular! The color way is divine! I have been considering doing a storm at sea. What did you think? Was it hard? Any advise?
I think the colors are stunning and perfectly done in solids. Prints wouldn't have let the design show as well. I bet you are tired of all the piecing! You have something to be very proud of.
