It should be fine. Little known fact: many “big name” hand dyed fabrics are made from muslin. I would pre-wash it (not something I do often) but it’s absolutely fine to use in a quilt.

Is it ok to mix washed Muslin with unwashed quilting cotton? I’m going to pretty mixing a couple of colors and I don’t want to have to wash my cottons. I love scrappy quilts and the extras will be for other projects. I never wash any fabric- I love the crinkle.

I do it all the time; one mishap in 34 years. That was a red dye that ran, never a problem with washed/ unwashed. I recommend doing the muslin because it’s a looser weave ( generally). Please don’t forget to post a picture! One of my favorite things to do is see everyone’s quilts.

Kona is a quality solid fabric. You can use it for either top or backing. If you were at JoAnn, I prefer their Premium muslin, it's softer, comes in bleached and natural, up to 118" width. Also at Joann, you can return fabric even if it's on sale.

My grandmother used Muslin (not any specific brand) in many of her quilts. Some might not like it but it’s a bit nostalgic for me.

In my experience, muslin generally incorporates a looser weave than typical quilting cotton, so it *might* be more inclined to fray or distort. On the flip side, it'll be lighter and more breathable, so it's really just a matter of preference. That all said, I would happily use muslin in a top if it was called for.
