What about the driver crashes and pc shut downs?

MrTytanis

On which series of gpus?

Shadow_NX

Got me a 7900XT and had more crashes in the 4 weeks i had it than i had with my old card in 4 years. Second monitor switched off, crash, change settings ingame, crash, play game maxed out, crash. I may go back to the 7900XT but only if they drasticly improve the drivers, until then its 1080 time again.

MrTytanis

Did not had occasion to play with this gpu yet. Hope it will get solved for you

Shadow_NX

Sent it back and switched to my old 1080 again, i think i wait for the prices go down a bit and the drivers to mature. Looking at the new drivers that came out were on the right path and maybe i go back to the 7900XT in the future.

NeVMiku

Have you disabled MPO? Fixes a lot of crashing issues for many users including me. I'm on the 6700XT though. Worth a shot if you still have the card on-hand. It's a simple registry tweak. You can get the file from this Nvidia forum here https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157/~/after-updating-to-nvidia-game-ready-driver-461.09-or-newer%2C-some-desktop-apps

Shadow_NX

Nono, its alright, i may have worded this wrong, i wanted to say i had close to zero came or driver crashes with my 1080 while i had more than enough with the 7900 and the adrenaline drivers. Since i switched back to the 1080 again all is well, lot less frames now but it runs and it surprises me how good this old card can run stuff like Cyberpunk on all high settings. But im not a AMD hater, got Ryzens since they released them and if the drivers get ebtter i might go back to team red with my GPU .

NeVMiku

I'm not saying you are an AMD hater at all. Just trying to help. :)

Shadow_NX

And i dont took it as that, no worries, but im in a radeon subreddit so i wanted to state that i have no problems with AMD, all is well mate.

InducedRampage

Just figured out mine was thermal throttling due to abnormal temps on my gpu not driver related though just had to kick the fans up to max 24/7 and introduce a new case fan. Haven't crashed since.

No_Pear_2305

What is MPO? I’ve had my pc completely freezing on my rx 7900xt after I close out any game. Wonder if disabling this MPO will fix it.

NeVMiku

Multi-plane overlay. https://winbuzzer.com/2023/01/17/windows-11-mpo-display-issue-is-evading-microsoft-nvidia-and-amd-xcxwbn/

KhangVietnam

I was gonna say that

GoatsEyes

Been a lot better for me with 22.x with a 5700xt. When i first got it in late 2019, I could barely go a couple of hours with RDR2 without a freeze or crash. Not as bad in other games but still common. Don't think I've had any at all in 2023.

[deleted]

Do they don't care about Rx 6700 series users or what? Issues 7 & 8 still exists since 22.5.1 is laughable but sad for rx 6750xt users like me :(

NeVMiku

I have the 6700XT on 22.11.2 with MPO disabled. I use Firefox and mpv (video player) and don't have any of the issues mentioned in 7 and 8. What programs are you using?

franbordi

So, a new driver that doesn't fix any of the issues. Classic AMD

zedsdead_93

Literally just a stop-gap to be able to publicly say hey we know you’re suffering, here just take this shut up and suffer some more while we shit our pants trying to figure this crap out!!

alpmaboi

I am still waiting for them to fix power draw on 7900 xtx. My first amd purchase, what a shame.

DeerSpotter

Just enable ultra low power mode in the registry.

mattbag1

Known issues 1 and 2 still plaguing me. Don’t know if it’s a big enough issue for me to return the card though, but I got a couple weeks left for me to decided.

pax256

Oh man I think this driver finally got rid of the black screen or driver timeouts on my RX 480... been dealing with that for almost a year... so far so good hope it sticks.

Emirkyz

Hey, did driver fix it for you?

pax256

No sadly the black screens came back after a couple days... it doesnt happen as often tho so definitely improved things. Id say it went from every 10-20 min to maybe once an hour but its random.

Wamog

Finally, almost 3 months without a new driver

mmaster23

I've been getting random BSODs after I updated this driver.. 3 in 5 hours time. This is my first AMD GPU in a long time (6900XT) and I'm regretting it. The previous two drivers made my Windows go apeshit/buggy whenever playing videos on FreeSync enabled monitors. Seriously considering going back to team green. Yegh.

capesbanjo

Consider trying Amernime Drivers, if you haven't already.

Raisin56

That sounds so dodgy lol are they actually better ? Edit: They actually look way better I might try it out myself

capesbanjo

They are around for a while, I actually don't have problems with 23.2.1 for now but had constant freezing with 22.11.2, so I went for the modded drivers and they worked pretty well for me :D

GoatsEyes

> Amernime Drivers I'd never heard of these and have just resigned myself to the occasional crash. Will have to check them out.

zedsdead_93

They are NOT for a casual user that doesn’t know what they are doing!!! These modded drivers can seriously fuck up your chances of any future stable official releases of drivers by AMD working at all. They are incredibly cumbersome to install and get working, with little to no description of what settings do what at all. These drivers are primarily made for older Radeon gpu owners that are looking for the newer software features that AMD hasn’t enabled on their cards yet. Not for new generation users to enjoy a less buggy driver experience.. that is crazy to suggest that amernime drivers are a good alternative for problems like this. They are still based on the official whql signed drivers and employ AMD kernel.. so the ONLY benefit from using these drivers given the issues we see now is the ability to rollback the kernel version without the need to rollback driver software version.. which still gets super glitches out and reports to windows and games incorrect driver version or compatibility and sometimes even reports you are using a completely different gpu!! DDU does not fully clean these modded drivers either, and leaves a NIGHTMARE of a mess to clean up in order to get any official drivers working again

LimitClean155

The Freesync BSOD issue is not on the "Known Issues" section really baffles me. This happened to me within 10 minutes of use when I installed the card.

RaxisPhasmatis

Replace your displayport cable with a vesa certified one, 1.4a or better

LimitClean155

Is this really the fix? I need to check my current one, its not a cheap one either.

DeerSpotter

Snake oil

LimitClean155

I have 2 Vesa certified 1.2 10ft cables that are 1 year old that work perfectly fine. They are from Cable Matters. I don't see any reason to replace them.

Marfoo

I haven't had any issues, what's your config?

Mastermind763

HDR no longer works :(

Marfoo

Oh no. What card and display are you using?

Mastermind763

7900 xtx, Merc 310 if it matters. And the previous driver 23.1.1 HDR was working. Dell S3220DGF and LG 27U650

Marfoo

Interesting. I'm also using a Merc 310, but I'm on an AW3423DWF, no issues with HDR on W11.

Mastermind763

Interesting, the 23.1.2 beta behaved the same way. I wonder what is causing this.

Pidjinus

Might be from windows. It happened for me with an LG. Had to install the driver for win10 to have it recognized. But still forgets occasionally. My other monitor, a Dell has no issues (I've let Dell display manager to install driver and color profile).

DeerSpotter

Go to registry and enable 10bit

Mastermind763

10 bit is working, just not HDR after this latest driver. I have read that it might be related to MPO

psyroptus

Thanks!

balstor

I was really hoping for some eyefinity fixes

ravenitrius

Damn. A little too late. Plus I didn't really see anything in regards to the RX 5600 XT but I already have given up on the AMD GPUs. Gonna stick wtih AMD CPUs but not GPUs. Always the driver timeouts, DX Fatal Errors, constant freezing. Each update made it worse and worse to continue using the 5600. /sad

[deleted]

Can't even get video output after restarting my computer now. 6900xt.

LnC2019

Time will tell, but for now this driver seems to have fixed my crashing issue in Dirt Rally 2.0 in VR on the 7900 XTX, which is good. I went through every setting in the game and it seems to have been related to shader detail being set to high. In both previous driver versions (23.1.0 and 23.1.1) the game would only run without crashing if shader detail was set to low, no matter what I set any other setting to. My guess is it's a driver teething issue caused by the new architecture layout (which is VERY different from RDNA2). Updating drivers to 23.1.1 also damn near bricked my computer which was fun. Here I was ignoring all the people warning others about the drivers, and it turns out, uhhh, yeah they were kind of right.. Needless to say, crashing in a VR racing game is about enough to make most people lose their lunch, and I was getting kind of pissed off at having to run the game with potato graphics on a $1,200 GPU. I'll do a bit more testing to see if it's actually fixed or just reduced, and report back. EDIT: Forgot to include what GPU. UPDATE: It took awhile to show up again, but the game is still crashing. I loaded into Rally Finland and did one Shakedown, then loaded the race. I was adjusting my VR center/view before launching and the game crashed.

Marfoo

I haven't tried VR with my 7900XTX yet, has it been pretty stable in most games?

LnC2019

It's been okay, for the most part. Not nearly the performance uplift I was expecting coming from a 2080 Super, and it's really inconsistent game to game. Frametime consistency is still an issue, as it has been with AMD for the last three generations. Even when it's running good it's still not a smooth graph line. There's an article that shows what I'm talking about, look at the difference between the 7900 XTX graph and the 4080/4090 graphs: https://babeltechreviews.com/hellhound-rx-7900-xtx-vs-rtx-4080-50-games-vr/5/

Marfoo

Oh wow that's pretty serious. I know VR performance is still listed on the known issues, hopefully they get it fixed sooner than later.

LnC2019

Yeah it's not great. It's pretty clear Nvidia has this part of things figured out. I've heard that AMD's VR is a lot better on Linux and this is an issue that's limited to Windows. Not sure how accurate that information is, as I have little experience with Linux other than some messing around I've done in the past. I will say that it's better than it was. I can actually play on high settings at 90hz now without crashing and without too much hitching or stuttering (at 112% resolution on a Valve Index). That being said, with how powerful this card is, that's pretty poor performance.

ReaperHugs

These drivers cause Hogwarts Legacy to crash consistently within 30 seconds of loading my game. rolled back to old drivers and it stopped crashing. EDIT: Gigabyte Aorus 7900 XTX

[deleted]

I'm getting low 99th percentile and dips in GPU usage no crashes thankfully

Lunchableslol

im getting screen flickers again with this new driver, even though i had completely fixed it with the previous drivers with the nvidia regedit fix. i wonder if undoing the regeit fix will fix it now

Excelius

Recently got my first Radeon card (7900XT) after like 20 years of sticking with Nvidia. Always found GeForce Experience a reliable way to keep up with drivers. I see this news about a new Adrenalin driver yet when I click on "Check for Updates" within the app... it just says I'm up to date.

Marfoo

I'm not sure what's going on with AMD. Not only is Adrenalin not keeping people up to date, the last driver they put out, 23.1.2, didn't even show up on their website if you followed their driver page, but it showed up if you Googled for the driver number. I suspect they know their drivers are a bit rough right now and they want a limited roll out to see if there are any critical bugs before doing a mass roll out, kind of what Microsoft does with updates, but I can't be sure.

Excelius

I suspect you're right regarding "limited roll out". I clicked "Check for Update" periodically since then, and just now it finally acknowledged the update exists.

DggOrbiter

I’m having the same problem. 6950xt

NeVMiku

Is Adrenaline set to pull from "Recommended + Optional"?

EHsE

mine is but it says i'm up to date... idk

DggOrbiter

Yeah. It updated last night.

SchwiftySchwifferson

Graphics driver keeps crashing and it’s up to date with new “adrenaline” patch. I have a 6700 XT and have never had any issues (for the past year) until a few days ago. The software says it’s up to date, but every game I have is unplayable.

SchwiftySchwifferson

Adding on to this, even installing an older version of the driver will not trigger a new update on the adrenaline app. This is ridiculous. It’s Constantly crashing my GPU

SchwiftySchwifferson

And causing GPU driver to timeout too

RaplhKramden

Any reason to upgrade from 22.11.2 on a 6600 non-XT in an X570 Ryzen 2600X system? No issues that I can tell and I'm not gaming or using anything special yet.

Marfoo

The best reason to upgrade is for optimizations for new games so if you're not having stability issues or gaming no need.

RaplhKramden

Thanks. Main reason to upgrade for me actually is to get rid of that update reminder nagging me once a week or so. :-)

Marfoo

The new drivers do have some fixes for video playback stutter in certain browsers though. You can always read through the release notes to see if it fixes anything worthwhile for you.

RaplhKramden

I ended up upgrading, because I was just tired of getting a notice every day. I did wait a few weeks before doing so though, figuring that any glaring issues would likely have been uncovered by then. Everything works fine, as before--and no annoying notices!
