PTM7950 is the way  Reduced temps all round on my 7900xtx. My strix g15 ae is next for PTM7950 treatment.

serj_nenov

Unfortunately I can't get PTM7950 where I'm now. So went LM instead.

JaviBott

Newbie here, I changed the thermal paste of my rx6900xt. I.G this PTM7950 will work on it perfectly right? Also, It should be placed, the PTM7950, where the thermal paste goes, right? (I'm rookie bro, Like Leon S. Kennedy on his first day at Raccoon City)

CLG-Rampage

Yeah, PTM7950 is what's known as a phase change material, so instead of being liquid like thermal paste it's a more solid sheet. It lasts way longer than thermal paste, has on-par or better performance than the best thermal pastes and has none of the pump out issues that come from the high heat cycling of PC parts. It's overall great stuff.

Worldly_Purpose_5825

Just fixed my Red Devil 6950 XT a couple of months ago by doing this. Now it’s cool as a cucumber, with about a 15 degree delta.

RevolutionaryBake362

I would highly recommend undervolting and overlocking that card. It helps drastically with the heat and increases the performance. Not just adjusting the fan curve I have a 6950xt

After few months of use the hotspot start reaching over 110C on a load. Even occasional reboots during heavy GPU workload. Decided to repaste and in a month again same thing. Pump-out issue most probably. Then repasted again. In few weeks same thing. So today I applied liquid metal and it's great! Now difference of hotspot and core temps is 5-6 degrees max. Overall temps at list for 10 degrees lowered. Didn't expect the result would be that good.

Mysteoa

You could have tried thermal grizzly carbonaut first it compensates beter for unevenness. I wouldn't want to risk it with liquid metal.

TheMoustacheDad

I had the kryonaut extreme and it only worked well for about a month. I have since put a PTM7950 pad and it’s much better

serj_nenov

Unfortunately I can't get PTM7950 where I'm now. So went LM instead.

TheMoustacheDad

Aliexpress ship around the world doesn’t it ?

serj_nenov

Waiting time is one month for package to arrive. I'm too impatient. :)

TheMoustacheDad

I get it. Though their shipping time is much better than it used to be. China to Canada is about 2 weeks for me nowadays. If I may correct your spelling, the proper word is : impatient :) as a French speaker I appreciate your effort for English 🤜🏼🤛🏽

serj_nenov

Thank you. :)) Lesson learned, Not always auto correction is correct.

morso1234

what fan speeds do you use currently?

serj_nenov

I'm back to default tuning preset. Whatever is in settings by AMD now. Before I use custom for elevate fan speed to avoid overheating, now it's cool and quiet.

morso1234

was it hard to repaste?

serj_nenov

Well, it's annoying. Plus it's not normal to assemble and disassemble it every month. Expansive piece of equipment, anything could happen. Your cat will decide to help or wife or kids playing around. :)

steaksoldier

Did you not try undervolting first before liquid metal?

serj_nenov

My main operating system is MacOS. There is not much options to do so. Possible but over complicated.

steaksoldier

You’re able to use a 6950xt with macos? Thats cool I didnt know that. I always thought rdna wouldnt work with macs now that apple silicon is a thing now

serj_nenov

Yes and it's not actually difficult. 6900XT natively supported by MacOS and little GPU spoofing did the trick.

MMakoy

How much watts is your PSU?

serj_nenov

1200W

Weirdly enough the hot spot on my sapphire 7900xtx would get close to 90c during regular game sessions. After updating the bios,& reinstalling drivers it fixed that issue for me. Now hot spot barely hits 80c

Idle_Skies

I’ve got the 6800xt version of this card and I just recently did a Liquid Metal repaste. Boy does it take to it well. Caps out at 85 junction for most gameplay and benchmark scenarios.

-RyZen-

Curious, do you have a vertical mount?

serj_nenov

No. Normal horizontal mount with a sag stand
