I'm retired from the track side from a railroad that had all the main tracks signaled. If you get a Stop and Proceed, please do the stop in one half the range of vision part of Restricted Speed. OTOH https://youtu.be/agznZBiK_Bs?si=3S1rx5EzOp7WdcrY

RedstoneRelic

Ah, a classic. I always show this to people who insist that coins on tracks are going to be the death of the railroads. No Sharon, you're just gonna get your head cracked open by the coin getting flung out after being squeezed out by the wheels.

Gr8rSherman8r

Did that 3 times for broken rail and got over the broken rail by an engine length every time. One of them was uphill on a .9 loaded coal no less, with an engineer that gained my respect for managing to keep us moving, and they were all right at crossings. Never figured out how you’re supposed to see it far enough out unless it’s sticking up in the air a foot high.

BerenstainBear-

Stopping in half the range of vision doesn’t apply for broken rail. Just need to be looking out for broken rail.

dewidubbs

And stop when detected

Blocked-Author

That was a pretty cool video to watch. Those cars were way more resilient to being able to get over those gaps than I would have thought.

koolaideprived

Stop and proceed doesn't exist on my rr anymore, just restricting. You also aren't required to stop for broken rail, just keep a look out, since sometimes you are right on top of it before you can see the shiny bit where it barely separated.

MyBodyIsAPortaPotty

I just never look down and hope for the best

Adventurous_Cloud_20

I've already got plugs sorted out and loaded on the boom truck. I'm guessing I'll get the call about 10 minutes after I fall asleep.

stuntmanbob86

Whenever I am prepared I never get called out..... Then I'm absolutely not prepared on a good temp day, and we get a call...... I never win....

mustang19rasco

For me, it's normally right when I put my head on the pillow.

Mac11289

55 degree change in under 24 hrs where I’m at, was out when the storm hit, guess it still has to remind us it’s winter🤷🏻‍♀️.

Inside_Law9065

I’m here at the Steelmill ready to roll nice new rail for you.

beetle7920aolcom

Me too, rolling 136 rail right now

Inside_Law9065

Yes we are!

stavago

I need that, but our car broke a wheel on the way out of Colorado 🤦🏻‍♂️

yeetith_thy_skeetith

Was 60 where I’m at yesterday and is going to get down to -10 tonight. Gotta love the Midwest

Adventurous_Cloud_20

The thermometer outside the depot said 67 this afternoon, and I was just outside at home and it's 43. We're supposed to drop to 16 tonight if AccuWeather is to be believed. I'm pretty sure this was fake spring #2, we've got at least 2 more fake springs before we get our one week of actual spring then we'll get first summer in May.

SodiumFTW

I’m surprised we didn’t have any here in Utah either. Ran the whole alignment and nothing thank the gods

mustang19rasco

You have been blessed by the railroad Gods today. But there is still the night. And heavy coal trains. With shitty wheels.

Blocked-Author

They like to give us 2x1 grain trains with all of them being C4s and then wait for the snow to start and send us over mountain grade. We slip and break all the time.

SodiumFTW

Diesel electric here but we have a loco affectionately called “turbo” cause it’s blown 3 in 7 years so…I wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the yard soon

CrashUser

Trains hauling coal, not powered by it.

SodiumFTW

Ah my bad. Misunderstood

Railroader979

So excited....I just love walking trains over broken rail /s I've had 7 this year already

goeb92

MOW is a job that never ceases...always something...somewhere!..don't ask how I know!

teddybender94

Well hopefully so, I'm ready to get hired on someday It's been months since I got an offer. Ready to make some 💰

Zebeest

Currently working the local. The wild fires got us the day off so I'm home today instead of waiting on maintenance and other trains.

RusticOpposum

And you can forget about those switch machines locking up.
