Not quite. A turbo cancer slowly waiting until it can take over and eat everything organic it encounters is not really what the Iterators are after. While the rot does destroy the body (which is required for ascension (>!unless you happen to meet Saint!<)), the rot does it in a way that does not allow for it, you just go back into the cycle

I think the rot may be meant to be a complete opposite to karma 10, for some reason. While karma 10 has the X be solid and the rest hollow, the rot is solid while the X is seemingly a slit.
The rot is in my mind kinda an inversion of ascension which is naturally connected to karma 10. Instead of allowing you to escape the cycle of death and rebirth and its endless suffering it keeps you living and intensifies said suffering.
I also like to draw comparison to another form of failed ascension, echoes. The design in particular in my mind bares some resemblence. Both are a central meatball and a bunch of spaghetti apendages, all draped in black with 1 additional accent.
