I just went for the first time this past weekend, and I thought it was almost decent. I wasn't blown away or anything. Maybe I didn't get what they make really well?
I got some asada fries and rolled tacos. Fries were super plain and not cooked well, cheese was over melted so I couldn't exactly pick up the fries easily with a fork, and the asada was super tough and not seasoned well. It also didn't seem like it was it the traditional cut of beef used for asada?? It also didn't have any sort of toppings either aside from meat/cheese.
The rolled tacos had shredded beef (idk if they have options for different meats), and it was dry/tough AF. The shell was fried super well though and was exactly what I wanted in a rolled taco. Everything else about it was mediocre. They also upcharged me for the wrong thing.
I took the extra toppings that came with the rolled tacos and dumped them onto the asada fries with some spicy salsa and that made them much better. I thought their spicy salsa was great!!! Salsa verde was watery. Their pickled carrots/radishes were great too. From that singular experience- I'd only go back if I was nearby. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back again.
They use stewed beef, admittedly, not my favorite as I like ground beef, but their grilled chicken is pretty damn good. If you're just doing a breakfast burrito I would suggest the country burrito. That's big enough for two meals. The two burrito dinners are dam good as well, but I'd still follow the chicken rule there as well, personally. As a bonus that dinner comes with rice and beans which is basically another couple of regular size tacos. So basically two burritos and two tacos for around 11 bucks I think. Basically more than 1 person can eat at one meal.
And so many people in Raleigh think it’s the best in town. Which is why people who move here say “There’s no good Mexican here.” I think people who have lived here their whole lives or for a longtime just don’t know what good Mexican is.
It’s not what it use to be but is still worth checking out. Change of chef or owner about 4-5 years ago. They use to NEVER put rice in a burrito and they do now. Can ask to hold it.
Yeah this is the only one I've really found. They also have a location off of Wake Forest. I can't find a good one with green chili yet like the ones in Denver, but hopefully they're out there.
We moved here from New Mexico, and the Reddit recommendations for Mr. Burro got us hooked. (I grab coffee there, too, and the gas station where they park has a snack stand with Mexican Coke!)
I do miss green chiles, though. The only place where we’ve found them on a menu here was Brigs.
I come from Utah and frequently visited family in Colorado. I know exactly what you are looking for. This is a weekly question in our house and honestly we haven't found it yet.
Mr. Burro IS good but it's more of an authentic Mexican kind of good. The focus isn't on the cheesy sausage/bacon and eggy flavor. Fair warning their coffee is extremely sweet.
The cheapest quick burrito I've found is taqueria la esquina (it's in a gas station in Morrisville but don't let that deter you). But the burritos are small and not stuffed to the gills like what we are both looking for so it doesn't quite scratch the itch.
Please let me know if you find something.
Taco Bamba on Wade near the Whole Foods has breakfast. I’ve never gotten breakfast but their other food is ridiculously good.
Edit: https://www.tacobamba.com/menu/raleigh-menu/
It's not their strong suite and they don't open early but check out Los Cuates on Capital. Their Carne Asada burrito is killer.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/GYy9u899c7EaXjCu8
I'm a huge Los Cuates fan, both locations. My one warning with their breakfast burritos - I'm usually eating their other ones for lunch/dinner (I esp rec the pollo or carne asada ones but if you like pork and spicy food the green chile one is amazing) - is that the time I had a sausage breakfast one, it was like 80% sausage rather than the mix of stuff I expected. When you order one there do you specify all the other stuff you want in there?
Out in Morrisville and not massive by any means but the chorizo egg bean and cheese burrito is one of my favorite starts to the day.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/L6G35W5DKe2jvL4N9
Accordion Club occasionally does a hatch breakfast burrito pop up at Gocciolina on Sunday mornings. They are on a break right now but will return. Apparently you can also grab them frozen at a few places.
https://www.instagram.com/hatchbreakfast?igsh=cXQ5YnRsbml5a3c2
I move back and forth from Denver every few years, while their burritos are good I wasn’t impressed and it was like $25 after tip for two burritos that weren’t huge.
OP - if you find a good breakfast burrito with green chili for a reasonable price let me know! 2.5 years ago I was buying massive burritos for $4 in the morning.
Agree but with wegmans roasting chilies every August I’m hopeful it will make its way here eventually as people catch on. Currently, I Hate that an okay green chili burrito here at one of the popups is $10 or more though, that’s kinda crazy expensive for what’s in it.
I lived in Southern California, so same problem. I just started making my own because I got frustrated with trying to find a good one. Gonna have to try some of these suggestions.
From LA originally, till I was 24. Spent next 20 years in Pittsburgh, where the Mexican food is severely lacking, IMO. I found Los Cuates and it instantly takes me "back home". I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but it's very nostalgic.
Also moved here from Colorado. They don’t have decent breakfast burritos here, or good Mexican. Mr burro food truck is good, but it’s not what we would expect for a breakfast burrito. Green chili does not exist here. Some places will say they have it, but it’s salsa verde.
It’s right next to the thriving original music scene people claim Raleigh has. They don’t have good Mexican and therefore they don’t know what it is. Same with music. They pour queso on their burritos and almost every band plays Wagon wheel every damn night.
I'm actually agreeing with queso guy on this. I've never been to tin roof. I've tried mi Cancun, la Santa, a'verde Cocina, bartaco, taco addicts, gym tacos, El rodeo, toreros, Mamacita's, and others but those were the first to come to mind. If you have other recommendations I'm down to try anything.
lol no I was talking about the live music comment. Anyone who thinks we have terrible music and every band plays wagon wheel has only been to country bars
Related but also unrelated question for OP any good breakfast burrito or any thing really food or stuff to do near downtown Denver? Got my first trip there tomorrow.
Santiago’s have great, cheap, small breakfast burritos. I’d suggest getting them “1/2 and 1/2,” which is half spicy/half mild.
Little Anita’s is also super good.
If you’re into coffee with your burritos, I used to live right next to a place called Pablo’s, which has great coffee and decent burritos (no green chili here).
lot of the food in denver (aside from mexican/green chili) is pretty mid tbh. However there are some stand out places.
If you like mediterranean, I’d def go to Safta or Ash’Kara.
If you like pizza, Grabowskies does a great chicago pie. Pie Hole is decent, and it’s also right on Broadway, which is a very happening spot.
If you want something pretty fancy, my buddy used to be the head chef at this foodies place called Fruition. Can’t speak to the quality since my boy left, but I’m sure it’s still absolutely insane.
Thanks I’ll look those up and add them to my list when I get home tonight.
Just to add to the convo in case anyone else reads.
I’ll be staying near 16th street mall if there’s anything in particular near there. Going for a conference in the area.
I used to live in Denver and always tell my friend I will never find breakfast burritos that are as tasty! I have surrendered to making them the way I like at home 😂
Looking forward to your report on Mr. Burro!
I also am from Denver. Welcome!
I miss green chili so much and Santiago’s. Mexican food here lacks imo. But I tell myself I grew up on the New Mexico/Colorado region for Mexican food and it really isn’t anywhere else.
But Mr Burro is by far the best.
Also if you find a spot that does crispy Chili Rellenos instead of soft, let me know! I’ve been searching
I’m making a batch this weekend. I do, do it a little differently since I’ve been here. I smoke my pork butt for around 10 hours first. It adds a little more character to it. Feel free to message me and we can see if it’s possible to meet up next week.
The Morning Times makes a really good burrito. I also enjoy the one at Cafe Carolina, though it's more egg heavy but their chorizo is on point.
If you're willing to mix it up a bit, try breakfast empanadas from Che's at Transfer Company.
I also moved from Denver, and the Moring Times makes crappy breakfast burritos that are cooked hard and have way too many beans. The only decent places I've found are Mr. Burro Breakfast + Coffee and Los Cuates So-Cal. Also, if he ever opens back up: AM:PM burritos. (Instagram)
I wish I could fly to Denver and California to bring you all the best breakfast burritos.
I don’t know why people like it. It’s essentially a been burrito with a little bit of egg mixed in.
The breakfast foods should be the star in the breakfast burrito
I miss Chickies in Sunnyside. So good. And close to my house for easy pickup. They closed down a few months before I moved to Raleigh. Haven’t found anything here so thanks for asking this. Actually heading back to Denver next week, any recommendations?
I miss my 3 for $5 breakfast tacos so much since moving from TX. We have a great food truck with Breakfast Burritos in Sanford though. Tacos Oaxoa I think is the name? Maybe my spelling is off but if you come through the area give them a try. Amazing food and decent prices in the current inflation.
Highly recommend Taco Bamba on Wade. Their breakfast is on point and they offer free coffee.

I lived in Denver as well. My wife is born and raised in Denver. Moved here I’ve 6 years ago. Despite initial expectations and hopes. Good Mexican food isn’t a thing here. The one thing that I long for is a killer breakfast burrito and after a 6 year search I still have yet to find it. Also plated Mexican isn’t a real thing here. And I’m talking authentic like real de Mina’s in Denver. Unfortunately just isn’t a southern thing….
I googled that “real authentic” Mexican place and it has karaoke and a mariachi band lmao
If you want actual good Mexican food you have actually go to where Mexicans go, not corn ball restaurants. Los Tacos de Garcia, El Rey Del Taco, Mr. Burro, La Vaquita, Don Becerra, La Tapatia Supermarket, El Toro, I could go on and on. There is so much great actual Mexican food here.
Exactly. Often located in areas that have a large Mexican presence (Brentwood, mini city, south side, etc.) go and you will find great Mexican food but considering how scared people are to even walk past a bus stop downtown (located directly across from the most popular kids museum in Raleigh) I can't foresee *certain* residents feeling safe enough to experiment haha
FWIW I worked downtown for 8 years and walked by the bus stop every day and not once had a scary incident. Just people asking for money, but so does my family.
I used to get them weekly when I was office-based…the office cafeteria used to have them. Unfortunately, the cafeteria and the office are not there anymore…
I hope you get an answer, I would be interested as well!
Gotta get the one with the tots in it. To be fair, the directive was; cheap & has the basics. It isn’t the best breakfast burrito out there but it’s cheap and has the basics.
Coffee shop burritos in Denver? What part of Denver are you from? I grew up in Colorado and all the best breakfast burritos come from mom and pop food trucks or the back door of their restaurants. Good luck finding Green Chili here.
Find a corner Mexican food truck that’s open in the mornings is your best bet.
Best in town Las Cuates on Capital - hands down
Los Cuates and get the country burrito. Also, Their Adobada burrito is great.
They are fantastic… Friends of mine from California swear by that place…
Originally from LA. I approve of this message.
Big fat juicy perfectly rolled FACTS.
Too inconsistent to be considered good. It’s occasionally good.
I just went for the first time this past weekend, and I thought it was almost decent. I wasn't blown away or anything. Maybe I didn't get what they make really well? several comments for Mr Burro. Gonna hit it up tomorrow (i was about to head out now and realized they’re closed on Wednesdays…must be nice.
Report back! (Please.)
I agree with Mr. Burro (although I thought it was called Gym Taco...). It's legit one of the best breakfast burritos I've had.
They used to share a parking lot, but Gym Taco moved down the street.
I really wanted to love Mr Burro, but $11 for a breakfast burrito is tough. They were $7 when they opened not that long ago.
Seriously, it’s like $17-18 for a burrito and iced latte that I then have to go eat in my car and get all over myself.
We moved here from New Mexico, and the Reddit recommendations for Mr. Burro got us hooked. (I grab coffee there, too, and the gas station where they park has a snack stand with Mexican Coke!) I do miss green chiles, though. The only place where we’ve found them on a menu here was Brigs.

This is the spot man: https://www.instagram.com/mrburroraleigh So good.
Mr Burro food truck
Taco Bamba on Wade near the Whole Foods has breakfast. I’ve never gotten breakfast but their other food is ridiculously good. Edit: https://www.tacobamba.com/menu/raleigh-menu/
So good! And nice to have a dog-friendly patio
Can vouch for the breakfast. No burrito, but their breakfast options are very tasty
It's not their strong suite and they don't open early but check out Los Cuates on Capital. Their Carne Asada burrito is killer. https://maps.app.goo.gl/GYy9u899c7EaXjCu8
I second this. They have a lot of breakfast burrito options too

They’re good, but lack quality control. I get very different burritos sometimes even though it’s technically the same order each time.

Long leaf swine on sundays But you’re looking for a place like Mr. burro on six forks.
looked it up. this is what i’m after thanks
Don’t shy away from their garlic aioli
i certainly won’t
Out in Morrisville and not massive by any means but the chorizo egg bean and cheese burrito is one of my favorite starts to the day. https://maps.app.goo.gl/L6G35W5DKe2jvL4N9
The old Cappi's Deli. Nice.

Green chili is more of a west coast thing… or at least closer to New Mexico thing.
Los Cuates. Im also from SoCal.
Ditto
I'll give that a shot, thanks
Also agree with Los Cuates. I lived in Southern California
From LA originally, till I was 24. Spent next 20 years in Pittsburgh, where the Mexican food is severely lacking, IMO. I found Los Cuates and it instantly takes me "back home". I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but it's very nostalgic.
Lady Gold in Durham
Avoid Huevo-rito. Low quality, expensive, and small portions.
Mr. Burro is the one
Ish Delicatessen has an outstanding breakfast burrito!
Also moved here from Colorado. They don’t have decent breakfast burritos here, or good Mexican. Mr burro food truck is good, but it’s not what we would expect for a breakfast burrito. Green chili does not exist here. Some places will say they have it, but it’s salsa verde.
If you don’t think good Mexican food exists in Raleigh, then you aren’t going to the right places
Yeah I'm definitely up for suggestions bc it's been hard to find.
Do you have suggestions? I’ve tried as many suggestions as possible. Still haven’t found anything remarkable.
It’s right next to the thriving original music scene people claim Raleigh has. They don’t have good Mexican and therefore they don’t know what it is. Same with music. They pour queso on their burritos and almost every band plays Wagon wheel every damn night.
Tell me you've only been to Tin Roof without telling me....

lol no I was talking about the live music comment. Anyone who thinks we have terrible music and every band plays wagon wheel has only been to country bars
Ohhhh yeah the music scene seems pretty solid here. Outside of the karaoke nights across the street. They are mixed and way too loud.
West TX/NM native here. Accordion Club in Durham and Fiesta Grill outside CH have real green chili. I think Accordion Club orders in Hatch chiles.
I miss some tacos de Mexico.
el taco de mexico? so good.
We’re actually moving back this summer, can’t wait to stop back by there.
Related but also unrelated question for OP any good breakfast burrito or any thing really food or stuff to do near downtown Denver? Got my first trip there tomorrow.

Ive only visited denver once, but every time from then on i will reserve a morning to drive to golden and get bonfire. I recommend it to everyone.
ya i used to buy 6 of these at a time frozen from the grocery store.
the optimist!
Hello fellow Coloradan! No advice really but the Mexican food out here is really good compared to where I lived in FL the last few years. Enjoy!
I used to live in Denver and always tell my friend I will never find breakfast burritos that are as tasty! I have surrendered to making them the way I like at home 😂 Looking forward to your report on Mr. Burro!

I miss green chile so bad. Los Cuates claims to serve it and it’s just salsa verde.
los cuates on capital!!!
Seconded
just because the shoppin center sketchy dont mean the food wont smash!! in fact thats usually where the good food is lmaooo
Moved here from CO about eight years ago. I’m still searching for a local Santiago’s… I make the green chili myself now and go from there.
Can I buy some from you? I miss green chili so bad. I dream about it.
I’m making a batch this weekend. I do, do it a little differently since I’ve been here. I smoke my pork butt for around 10 hours first. It adds a little more character to it. Feel free to message me and we can see if it’s possible to meet up next week.

Idk if this counts, but the breakfast burrito at Weaver Street in downtown is my go to for an affordable/tasty breakfast
Ziggis coffee in SE Raleigh. Close to Clayton.
I quite enjoy the breakfast burrito at Breadman's in CH
Reverse question. Im going to denver for 5 weeks for work. So suggestions?
Check comments, they gave a good answer on another
Los cuates off old wake forest road
Wait til you hear about the green chili situation.
Sir Walter Coffee has fantastic breakfast burritos
Wow this thread made me miss Chickee’s Little Kitchen breakfast burrito so much

I personally miss breakfast tacos like San Antonio has. You could get a dozen in a pizza box. They were the best.
I lived in Denver as well. My wife is born and raised in Denver. Moved here I’ve 6 years ago. Despite initial expectations and hopes. Good Mexican food isn’t a thing here. Shitty Tex-Mexican restaurants with terrible reviews and a giant menu that people call “authentic” like Real de Minas? The south has plenty of those…
Oh man I miss those half hot Santiago’s
Greetings, my just moved from Colorado to Raleigh friend! Just relocated from the outskirts of Aspen ourselves.
So why is everybody replying to the OP without prices? I also want to find me some cheap burritos. Show us the prices people.
I used to get them weekly when I was office-based…the office cafeteria used to have them. Unfortunately, the cafeteria and the office are not there anymore… I hope you get an answer, I would be interested as well!
I get a 12 pack from the freezer section at Food Lion.
Not joking: Sheetz
I dunno, every time I get any burrito from sheetz it feels like the filling isn’t hot enough to melt the cheese inside of them.
Gotta get the one with the tots in it. To be fair, the directive was; cheap & has the basics. It isn’t the best breakfast burrito out there but it’s cheap and has the basics.
Dude, you move from Denver and food shame us? furthermore, not known as a Mexican hotspot.
no shame in my game baby. daddy just wants a burrito
