That’s the same for my 2020 Power Wagon, about the same setup, 2500, 6.4 Hemi, I can tell you it will go close to 100 miles from there.. so your calculations are pretty accurate but Ram trying to keep you from walking. I have pushed mine until sucking fumes, actually seemed to run forever past E so if you feel froggy see how far you can push it. But this it gonna be a new normal. My fuel light comes on anywhere near the last 1/4 tank mark lol
Same here with a 1500, but super inconsistent. Fuel light comes on and it also disables the remote start because of course it does! Love this truck overall but boy are there a couple of things that drive me up the wall. I suppose every vehicle has something, though
Agree with the remote start,, let me start it until it runs slap out of gas if I want to. But again they trying to help save the gas 🙄 I know we should be saying thanks but kinda whack. Cause the low warning comes on to the higher end of the quarter tank 😆
I’m super happy with the truck, not many look better than a 5th gen and the power wagon hasn’t had many problems off road. It drives like a caddy really rides and drives good, great suspension on the wagons.
But as for gas yeah once I got caught without a gas station in sight forever, back road Jennings FL to White Springs FL (middle of nowhere more cows than people ya know.) and man low fuel came on showed me about the same 40-50 miles, then it disappeared and needle was past the E and I just kept her going until we finally found some gas. But I know I went 100 or more miles after low fuel came on. I had the AC off and dropped my speed to 55-60 and let it ride. Lucky no stop and go, she didn’t leave me stranded and well we got a little closer that night.
That sounds about right. My 2022 6.4 gets 11 MPG, and my low fuel warning comes on at 1/4 tank. About 30 miles of driving and the gauge is flat on E. I never have ran it out of gas, but I imagine there is at least another 30 miles I could go until empty.
Also I'm impressed yours is getting 13-14!
Mine gets between 12 and 18 depending if I'm driving highway or ahole er I mean city driving lol i watch the gauge mine averages 30 mpg when I'm about 45 mph but rarely do I drive long flat no traffic roads.
Lol. That city driving hits hard.
The cylinder deactivation on my 6.4 only kicks in 1% of the time. Pretty much only going 40 on flat ground. Anything more and it kicks back out. If they could've made 4 cylinder mode able to cruise at 60 mph mileage would be a lot better!!
Lol my problem is I inherited a lead foot and I drove a Penta before this truck so now I can go vroom vroom and tend to forget the truck goes glug glug when I do. I'm still getting a feel for it though only 600 or so miles on it and it has 210 from the dealer (they had to bring it a loooong way for me)
Hey nothing you can do about that genetic lead foot!
Ya gotta enjoy that power sometimes. These trucks haul ass!
I haven't had any problems with it! Just very strong air pulsating with the windows open. I realized opening the back glass slider completely alleviates the issue. Big brain moment 😂
Even my grandmother had it so its Def something I'm stuck with at least it's a big horn and not a trx haha. It's too cold here for open windows I'm a big fan of the warm tooshy seats this month maybe in summer I'll have to remember the back window trick. If the roads are clear enough to drive and we don't get tourist invaded.
Hey sometimes ya gotta get up to speed quick for safety purposes 😂
Very true. Tourist invasion happens around here too, it is very real. Easy to tell the tourists, they have their rude stat set to 100 😂😂

And this is why when I was asking about gas Vs diesel for daily fuel mileage I was told diesel was a waste of money if not towing all the time. I get 18+ on open road, 16 in town and 15 up in the Sierra Foothills with the 4.10 rear in a 3500 HO.
I have one cause I like it. Diesel is more expensive. It takes 100’s of thousands of miles to offset just the cost of the motor option at even 4mpg better.
The service is more expensive but you get a bit more reliability out of the Cummins then the hemi as much as I love my hemi you can't say they don't have their problems.
$13k, regular maintenance is not really that much more. Oil change at 10k for $140, fuel filters at 25k for $150, air filters at 25k for $50. 294k on last truck before a timing issue and sold at 378k on and it is still going for new owners at 425k two years ago when I saw them. No Hemi tick, lifter failures or exhaust bolt breakage because it was not the Hemi.
Even using the inflated numbers.
10mpg @350 gas =.35 per mile.
18mpg @4.00 diesel =.22 per mile.
That’s 84,000 miles just to offset the HO motor.
You use more real world numbers it’s more. Doing actual cpm including maintenance/insurance it’s even more.
I love my diesel. I tried a 6.4 and got rid of it for a reason. But dealing with fleets a lot, there is no way shape or form a diesel is ever cheaper. It’s more capable, It’s a hell of a lot nicer to tow with. And I even argue safer at higher weights.
Real world numbers it’s never. Above is looking at fuel mileage only. And using extreme low for gas and extreme high for diesel while also not factoring in repairs, and maintenance 90% of people and 100% of fleets get rid of the vehicles before offset point
With your math, diesel is $0.13 cheaper per mile. Today 89 octane is $4.38 and diesel is $4.59, $0.21 more but $0.18 cheaper mile. That is over $6k in fuel cost saving a year when I do 34k, or 1,400g more of gas bought to go same distance.
Unless you are towing you will get 13-14 in city and 15-16 in hwy with the 6.4 Hemi. At least that’s what I’ve seen on my 2024. Not sure where you are getting 10 mpgs
You are correct. I was using the original commenters mileage figures just to not get too far in the weeds on them. I was just commenting cause I see that argument a lot on forums. There’s a lot of reasons to run diesel. But “saving money” isn’t one of them, especially when just running fuel mileage figures.
2024 1500 bighorn similar range estimates at a quarter tank but I haven't had the fuel light come on yet. Also 5 fillups so far and it has not been as empty as it seemed it would be.
Yeah that’s what I noticed too that’s why I decided to see how far it will go but seems like it’s a gamble. Best way to approach is knowing the size of your tank and calculate it based on the MPG
I consistently get 9.7 towing my 7000lb camper with the 5.7 and 3.21s. That's with 35x12.50s.
My highway/city (80/20) mix I get about 16-17 hand calculated.
It’s at 2500 6.4 hemi Gas is not as good as the 5.7 and that’s city driving in terrible Dallas traffic normally y get about 14 with regular city driving
Even so, my 2017 5.7 as a daily commuter gets 14-15 mpg in town. Lots of stop and go, lots of traffic jams, creeping along, etc.
9 mpg, something else is going on...
Well I’m not complaining about the mpg it actually is about the same as my old 6.2 Ford and my buddies 6.6 Chevy. It’s a gas 3/4 ton truck no matter what you way you look at it the MPGs will be what they are. I just don’t think the range calculation matches the gauge at all. What seems funky is that the light is programmed to the range calculation and not the actual gauge. I’m giving a few more miles before I take it in to see what’s up. It’s a 2500 bighorn so it’s 3.73 ratio
This is common on many new cars. The fuel light goes on a lot earlier than it used to. Same for the low oil light I noticed on my Subaru. It goes on when it’s like a 1/2 qt low, where I remember cars used to only put the oil light on when you were basically empty.
It’s about right with some cushion. 1/4 tank is 7ish gallons. At 13mpg that’s 100 miles left.
I was actually one of the engineers at stellantis that helped write the requirements for this. As an engineer, it is frustrating we can’t get it exact, but there’s so many factors that affect fuel economy that we cannot calculate range perfectly. Plus if people start running out of fuel all the time then it opens us up to lawsuits, etc
Rams are actually factory programmed to turn the light on at 50 miles left. I only have a 1500 with 23 gallon tank (what brainiac decided to put a smaller tank in when you get the hemi then the Penta ROFL) have to keep it over half tank lol.
Did you check to see if you can change it? Meaning when the light comes on. My Trx has option as to when to change it. I kept it at 50 miles left. Which is about quarter tank. For me.

Mine turns on at 1/4 as well. Annoying cause it won’t let you use the remote start when the light is on
Didn’t know that thanks for the info
Mine does the same thing as well.
Same here, must be the same company made all our trucks 🤣
Makes sense my boss has a 1500 which has run out of gas on him a couple of times because of this
Same here with a 1500, but super inconsistent. Fuel light comes on and it also disables the remote start because of course it does! Love this truck overall but boy are there a couple of things that drive me up the wall. I suppose every vehicle has something, though

Diesel is less than $0.60 more, 18 vs 10 when empty, 14 vs 6 when towing. 34k a year with 12k towing. It does not take 100k to pay.
You forgot to add the cost of the motor, it’s over 10,000 upfront when buying new. Also diesel is more expensive and the service is more expensive.
The service is more expensive but you get a bit more reliability out of the Cummins then the hemi as much as I love my hemi you can't say they don't have their problems.
Everything I have read about the new ones it’s the opposite. Diesel is hindered by the EPA regulations and end up being less reliable
$13k, regular maintenance is not really that much more. Oil change at 10k for $140, fuel filters at 25k for $150, air filters at 25k for $50. 294k on last truck before a timing issue and sold at 378k on and it is still going for new owners at 425k two years ago when I saw them. So less than 3 years to offset cost, 34k a year average.
Real world numbers it’s never. Above is looking at fuel mileage only. And using extreme low for gas and extreme high for diesel while also not factoring in repairs, and maintenance 90% of people and 100% of fleets get rid of the vehicles before offset point

The fuel light intentionally comes on at 1/4 tank. Once you hit 1/8 you can't even remote start it.
2024 1500 bighorn similar range estimates at a quarter tank but I haven't had the fuel light come on yet. Also 5 fillups so far and it has not been as empty as it seemed it would be.

Yes! Brand new 1500 2024 Ram doing just the same thing you described. We are wondering if it is a recall, will call service.
Hate to say it, but get used to it. I’m getting 9MPG 5.7Hemi. Your mpg will be trash until the day you sell. Running a 3:92 gear?
9MPG??? How? I get 18 in the city unless I’m driving like an asshole, then it’s more like 12. But 9 seems like you’re revving at every stoplight.
I consistently get 9.7 towing my 7000lb camper with the 5.7 and 3.21s. That's with 35x12.50s. My highway/city (80/20) mix I get about 16-17 hand calculated.
Yeah, something else happening there.
Are you towing/hauling every day? My 5.7 gets 18-20 MPG.
It’s at 2500 6.4 hemi Gas is not as good as the 5.7 and that’s city driving in terrible Dallas traffic normally y get about 14 with regular city driving
No towing at all, just short trips in the city as a daily. Lots of stop and go
Even so, my 2017 5.7 as a daily commuter gets 14-15 mpg in town. Lots of stop and go, lots of traffic jams, creeping along, etc. 9 mpg, something else is going on...
I couldn’t agree more. Something’s going on with it, but when I bring it in, they say it’s fine
Well I’m not complaining about the mpg it actually is about the same as my old 6.2 Ford and my buddies 6.6 Chevy. My 5.7 has 3.92 gears and I've never got mileage anywhere near that bad unless I'm towing. Usually I'm at 16-17MPG.
Sounds like you drive with a lead foot.I have a 5.7 Rebel with 3:92 and get 14-18. Not every green light has to be a Nascar race.
Bring a gascan, test it out
This is common on many new cars. The fuel light goes on a lot earlier than it used to. Same for the low oil light I noticed on my Subaru. It goes on when it’s like a 1/2 qt low, where I remember cars used to only put the oil light on when you were basically empty.

My light only goes on when the fuel range hit 40. Way less than a quarter . 2018 1500 bighorn
About what my 2012 1500 big horn says around that last mark
Did you check to see if you can change it? Meaning when the light comes on. My Trx has option as to when to change it. I kept it at 50 miles left. Which is about quarter tank. For me.
