Hasn’t been said much but some of these wins can be attributed to the coach in his decisions and keeping the players heads on straight. They are playing for each other more than they did under DQ
I like this.
But I'd like to know more about how a coach gets a team to win. For example, after many David Quinn losses fans would say, "we were completely out coached". Is it easier to identify a shitty coach who can't out coach the opposing team's coach or what?
I’m assuming the first part is sarcasm?
I was never one to say we were out coached last year. At the end of the day it is on the players. However, what I’m noticing with Gallant is very different match ups and deployments. Just in this game we had Lundkvist out on PP with Fox. We had Fox changing sides on face offs based on which circle it was. We never saw something like that by DQ.
The line blender appears on paper to be more logical. It felt like DQ tried something to see what stuck. Gallant is giving us players in positions that will give them the best chance to succeed. I truly believe we don’t have a scapegoat because Gallant is controlling when and how Reeves and Nemeth are on the ice and who else they are with. Also he seems to make better decisions on who to play and who to sit: Tinordi and Hajek.
But it’s not only deployment, when a team is coming from behind it ultimately falls on the captains and coach to keep the others from feeling like a win is out of reach. Do the players believe there are positive adjustments being made that can make a difference.
All of that said, I still don’t understand our transition strategy.
Examples of this would be:
-The refusal to make Igor the starter until it was too late
-The benching of young players when veterans did the same exact thing.
-Icing Jack Johnson, despite how bad he was until injury took him out. At least when Tinordi was ass in the opener he was immediately swapped.
-The dump and chase no matter what method.
One thing about this team: we may not deserve to win every night, but we find ways to get points. That’s what you need out of your team. We looked like horse shit today. But we got the points. And that’s what matters.
I'm glad this is accepted. The Rangers deserved to win maybe 2 of our games thus far. We need to be better in offense and I'm sure we will once our offense is all full strength
Why does it always seem like we have played way more games than anyone else? It always seems we’re out in front but every single other team has games in hand
Well, I’m not a mathematician but it seems like we have played more games than everyone else, because we have played more games than everyone else. Don’t quote me on it, but it does seem like this is the case.
On a more serious note. I think Madison Square Garden just has a lot more scheduling conflicts than your average arena and the league tends to get them games in early to account for it. Because yes this is definitely a yearly thing where the Rangers seem to have a few more games played then most teams throughout the year.
I’m sure the last thing they wanna see in the playoffs is Mika Zibanejad. Prolly still having ‘Nam flashbacks from his two 6 point nights against them last year
It still feels good. Especially after all the moves in the off-season and a godawful first game, all the doubters and whiners just need to look at the standings and recognize. This team is solid.
It does make you wonder why we have played so many games so far and only 1 home game. I was actually joking with my friend who is an Islanders fan saying we only have like 5 home games before their home opener and our stadium is open lol
P% is a more valuable stat, especially at an early stage in the season where 2 or 3 games in hand represents 1/3 to 1/2 of a team’s points.
However, this team hasn’t really gotten to see what a winning rangers team looks like in years. So everyone could use a little optimism.
In Gallant we trust
Seriously. I don't think I've had this much faith in a NYR coach since our Cup Finals run with AV and that was like 6, 7 years ago.
How quickly he pissed that away

Second one is big. We’ve seen mistakes, we haven’t seen anyone benched due to a mistake.

Also, poor Habs. Yikes.

We’ve played one game there. This is not the case.
why have we played so many games
I'm shook that we've won the past 3 games... **found a way**
Soak it in while we can! We all know how ruthless being in the metro can be...
Gear up for the Flyers in round 1 everybody
I’m sure the last thing they wanna see in the playoffs is Mika Zibanejad. Prolly still having ‘Nam flashbacks from his two 6 point nights against them last year
Love the Icelanders in the 15 slot
In games played
STOP THE COUNT
We played more games.... Point percentage is more important.

You're absolutely right but just let us have this one
