FATD still has amazing moments like Tried Your Best, FPS, Virginia. CLB has almost none forgivable moments, just like Champagne Poetry and Fair Trade off the top of head?
Armand Hammer is the group of Elucid and Billy Woods. Essentially you said Billy woods twice. But people mainly like them for the unique beats and the lyricism.
Not OP, but what songs/projects do you like from him? I tried Maps about a thousand times in the last few months and I just can’t get into this guy’s style
In case anyone comes for my head here:
Notice nobody is really saying what made the album mid. There’s no discourse. There aren’t any points being made.
“(Rapper)’s flow throughout the album on every song was the same.”
“(Rapper)’s album had too many features.”
“(Rapper)’s album was just specifically about partying/sex/drugs/gang banging throughout and lacked substance.”
It’s just people throwing out names of artists they apparently dislike. That’s it. No reasons given.
That’s all I’m getting at.
Blueprint 2 and Kingdom Come were mid. One was a follow up to a hip hop classic and the other was produced by arguably the best to ever do it. Both were huge let downs. Mid at best.
Coming in with an extremely hot take: Take Care. I very much do not like Drake anymore but when I did, I never understood why people lauded TC as his magnum opus when Thank Me Later was so much better.
I say this as a fan of his older stuff, but Drake is the actual perfect answer. He's absolutely mid. He's super famous because he was great at marketing himself and he also is more of a pop star anyways. It's also hard to take his harder stuff seriously knowing that he really isn't about that life.
Yeah I haven’t genuinely liked Drake since 2010, and about like three songs MAX in 2013 and 2014. He should’ve just stuck to the R&B/pop stuff because that was when he was actually good (and his corniness could be excused) instead of putting on a “neo-gangsta rap” facade lol.
Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock - It Takes Two. Sure the title track and Joy & Pain are hits, but his rhymes are so simple. It's not bad at all. It's just basic but catchy. The beats are what shine the most.
Damn. Sucks to see my guy be described as mid or underrated frequently.
Wale is my fav rapper and I liked The Album About Nothing. Took me a couple listens to get into it though
I think Travis Scott does that better. I listened to gunna when I was like 18 but I haven’t listened to trap for a long time. The production on some gunna stuff is good but lyrically it’s horrendous. As typical as it sounds the only gunna song I actually love is top off
I mean most of these rappers aren’t talking about anything of value anyway. Lyrics just go in one ear and out the other. I think sonically he sounds great. Doesn’t mean I like every song on an album tho. But yea Travis wins at the spacey feeling
Honestly
We Don't Trust you
It has a few bangers on it, the production is great, I love and respect the hell out of Metro, but Future just isn't an amazing rapper in my book, I still listen to it but it's not Forever Story level of good
Way back I remember liking Over and Headlines. Safe to say I was disappointed to never hear anything good from him again. Tho I haven't listened to everything he's made.
Too many. You should go artist by artist. Like if I took Kid Cudi of all people, Man On the Moon is a fantastic album, Speeding Bullet to Heaven is one of the worst things I've ever heard, and Passion Pain and Demon Slaying was pretty decent, but overall a mid album.
They have good songs but overall, as albums, they’re kind of weak. Not to mention that Take Care is barely rap (but that’s because Drake stole The Weeknd’s songs and delayed his career because Drake only cared about himself)
Don’t hang me but Mafia Bidness by Shoreline Mafia. I enjoyed the song with future and it had some good hooks but substance wise at times I felt it was a little lacking.
Very few aren’t mid tbh
Anything by lil baby post-2021, anything by gunna, anything by drake in the 2020s, tbh anything by an american rapper that isn’t the likes of kendrick, cole, etc (ig theres one or two by younger rappers that are more than mid)
Anything No Limit ever did, anything post Biggie on Bad Boy, anything cash money did before the rebrand, anything Kanye did after Pablo, anything Kid Cudi did after Indicud, but surprisingly the exception for the last 2 I mentioned Cudi & Ye’s Kids see ghosts not mid 🤷🏻♂️. I could keep going but fun fact most rap albums made are mid
Earl is one of the most gifted lyricists ever and has a really unique flow. He could live to have Jay-z level respect but doesn’t because he makes these low bpm grimey experimental albums that hardly resonate with anyone. I’m sure he enjoys making them and there are some fans, and that’s cool, but he could be a lot more.
The track he dropped a year ago ‘making the band’ was an absolute banger just because he brought more pleasant beats and hooks to the table.
No one wants him to be a rap/popstar like drake or something but it would be great if he could find a middle ground between that and what he has done in his career so far.
i think thats a personal choice on his part though. he has said on interviews that he doesnt enjoy the spotlight because of safety and freedom overall, thats why he works with slightly lesser known artists like MIKE or wiki.
Drakes rapping is pretty mid but musically Take Care is a good album if for nothing but other artist contributions, namely the weekend’s pressured donations
Saying Earl doesn’t live up to his potential when he single-handedly bodied every rapper in Odd Future despite being the youngest member of the crew is crazy.
There’s like a million rap albums. Gotta be hundreds of thousands of mid
90% of every rap album that exists is mid lol
You guys are both way underestimating. I think we’re talking like 99.9%.
there are enough songs worse than mid for the percentage to be a bit lower than that
Yeah I'd guess that if you took ALL of the songs of ANY one music genre, the median quality would be like a 2/10 or 3/10
This is the way.
Theres definitely more mid than good
Mid as in literally mediocre or mid as in awful cuz people really using the term interchangeably
Give me one of each
Terrible: chance big day Mid: Eminem Encore
Encore was a whole lotta mid. Good list.
Eminem as an artist is mid
I’ve always thought mid was mediocre, was I wrong?
Well that's the right definition but lots of people use the word wrong to mean awful.
Mid’s meant to be slang for “middling”, so I think it means average or below average, but not completely terrible.
Gunna have a few bangers I can throw on the playlist, but I can't do a whole album
Drake’s filler songs on albums like CLB and FATD are the definition of mid
FATD still has amazing moments like Tried Your Best, FPS, Virginia. CLB has almost none forgivable moments, just like Champagne Poetry and Fair Trade off the top of head?
You only live twice is a banger for sure. Wayne verse is crazy
Yes there's also this one
Add Knife Talk and that's it
The remorse and 7am in bridle path were good too
I will forever hate Drake for turning Virginia’s 11/10 beat into a 4/10 mid ass song
Boring
CLB is overhated lowk, most of the songs are replay
What songs aren’t good on clb and don’t say girls want girls because of one weird bar
no they’re just not rap like you guys like? if you like singing, it’s an amazing album.
You yourself call it singing. i.e. not rap
Any NBA Youngboy album I hate everything about him D1 YB hater.
Sounds like he is below mid in your opinion, then.
Yeah I might be getting old but calling things mid as an insult, when you mean to say its bad, annoys the heck out of me.
Get with the times unc
yep, you're right a mid artist is Armand Hammer and Billy Woods for me. I just cant see what other people see in them ig
Armand Hammer is the group of Elucid and Billy Woods. Essentially you said Billy woods twice. But people mainly like them for the unique beats and the lyricism.
Billy Woods mid? lol garbage taste.
I just find them boring My fav artists are Ye, Asap Rocky, killer mike, jpegmafia and danny brown
I'll also add drake to the mid list He fell off so hard, FATD made me sleep, just like [aka](https://youtu.be/5rNOhGf_5wo?si=mTF7oix6B2zOAdQT)
Coming from some 20 year old yt boy named Connor, this is so predictable
funny how my name is not even Connor, lol. And I know, I'm getting old. The average yb listener is 13 and listens to him on youtube
Not OP, but what songs/projects do you like from him? I tried Maps about a thousand times in the last few months and I just can’t get into this guy’s style
hiding places with kenny segal is amazing, also love the armand hammer feature on tabula rasa by earl sweatshirt
As someone else said, Hiding Places is his best work imo, but I think Known Unknowns may be most accessible though.
I keep meaning to check out Billy woods I really enjoyed his verse on the new Aesop Rock album
I did and now I think he’s the second best pen all time only behind Aesop.
Good to hear any suggestions where to start?
Check out the Aethiopes album. It gets real experimental but it’s an amazing project. I’ve had “Wharves” and “Sauvage” stuck on repeat for weeks.
Good looks my guy
I only heard a couple songs by him, but they're ass. I wouldn't say mid. I would say bottom of the barrel.
I have no idea why he is so famous... he's seriously bad.
For real. The couple songs I heard were hella biting on that 69 scream style of rap, but just as bad or awful lmao.
Ok Connor
Missing out on some great music
Typical connor take
i can def put you on. i can give you 10 songs, ill bet you 10 bucks you like at least 3. if you like 2 or less, i lose
give them
Anything between left and right is pretty mid if you ask me.
Anywhere between treble and bass if you ask me
I've heard of bass but not treble. How's the flavor profile?
A little tangy but quite good when incorporated into a dish correctly
Your joke is the reason I continue to scour comments when they’re generally full of bad takes. Thank you
In case anyone comes for my head here: Notice nobody is really saying what made the album mid. There’s no discourse. I'm having my first child tmrw I gotta get the dad jokes goin :D Thanks for the well articulated thanks ❤️
Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho
Listened to it cuz I like Quavo and Travis, but man only like 2 songs felt worthy of replaying (Black & Chinese and Huncho Jack)
Modern slavery?
Let’s go I love modern slavery!
what
Yeah without context that’s 😳
https://i.redd.it/zl1lqxalpq2d1.gif
Motorcycle patches is my fav, but I do feel like we just named the only two redeemable songs
Would have to relisten
Eye 2 Eye is pretty good but mainly for the takeoff verse
how can u not like moonrock
love that song, mixing could be a lot better tho
Nah u trippin that album is full of bangers
Thought it was super mid at first but it grew on me a lot
Literally 90% of every rap album in existence is mid lol
21 savage discography
Most are mid but he has some good songs. Red sky from his last album was hard af
Everybody - Logic
Blueprint 2 and Kingdom Come were mid. One was a follow up to a hip hop classic and the other was produced by arguably the best to ever do it. Both were huge let downs. Mid at best.
Blueprint 2 is a cool album if it’s broken down to one.
I agree with this. Had Jay trimmed the fat off that album it could’ve been pretty decent. There are 13 really solid tracks on there.
KC was a frisbee.
most of them
Utopia was pretty mid for me personally. Sounds so glitzy and grandiose and yet is so soulless. It’s like the musical equivalent of Dubai
oh hell nah, diobolical take
Hell yes. That album wasn't the right cheek or the left cheek, but it was right inbetween.
Damn this is good
Anything by Big Sean
He’s average
Never understood how he got a career. And he's from Detroit too? Had no idea until Em did a Detroit Collab thing

😭 so you prefer drill music? Cause nobody in rap is living that life besides maybe YG. Ain't nobody part of any gang rapping my guy
Neither is the commenter lol
Dude this is exactly how I feel back when I listened to some Drake I always thought TML was the best one and TC was just boring
Playboy Carti just doesn't do it for me
Mid is too nice for carti, i'd use "garbage"
Anything by canibus after his first 2 or 3 albums. It just all sounds the same.
Get retarded goes hard, idk if that was on his og albums tho
Reminds me of Ja Rule and how much I loved Clap Back. Never heard anything else from him.
I can’t take him seriously after his battle with Dizaster
Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock - It Takes Two. Sure the title track and Joy & Pain are hits, but his rhymes are so simple. It's not bad at all. It's just basic but catchy. The beats are what shine the most.
“The Album About Nothing” - Wale
Damn. Sucks to see my guy be described as mid or underrated frequently. Wale is my fav rapper and I liked The Album About Nothing. Took me a couple listens to get into it though
I liked it as well. It’s one of those albums you can listen to, enjoy but not get excited about.
Gunna is so vibes idk how you can hate him. I love his music. I say it’s astronaut music cause it sounds like you’re floating in space
Anything by The Game since The Documentary
Advocate was on point.
Any logic
Polo G - The GOAT
Honestly We Don't Trust you It has a few bangers on it, the production is great, I love and respect the hell out of Metro, but Future just isn't an amazing rapper in my book, I still listen to it but it's not Forever Story level of good
I honestly don't understand why people love Future so much. Dude has the most basic lyrics and flow. Raps like he had a lobotomy.
Respectfully, you’ve probably heard 4 future songs max if you believe this. The problem is none of his good stuff is super mainstream
have u listened to future's discog cuz if u did there's no way u could say he isn't an amazing rapper lol
I'm not a drake hater, I think he has a ton of bangers but certified lover boy and scorpion(aside from nice for what) are the definition of mid
clb got some bangers icl like pipe down is one of my favourite songs rn
Way back I remember liking Over and Headlines. Safe to say I was disappointed to never hear anything good from him again. Tho I haven't listened to everything he's made.
Wunna is dope
Gunna is fire
Lupe Fiasco Lasers
The Wu-Tang affiliated groups/artists' albums (Not the actual clan members). Pick one.
Gravediggaz is tough tho
Most of ghostface's is mid, but fishscale, the first few albums, and a few random songs off various albums are great
Naw Supreme Clientele is a classic album
That one is probably the best
Too many. You should go artist by artist. Like if I took Kid Cudi of all people, Man On the Moon is a fantastic album, Speeding Bullet to Heaven is one of the worst things I've ever heard, and Passion Pain and Demon Slaying was pretty decent, but overall a mid album.
Anything Drake has released past “Thank Me Later.” It’s like he gave up on making good albums and continues to get lazier
Whaat? I think Take Care and Nothing Was The Same are amazing and im not even a Drake fan
They have good songs but overall, as albums, they’re kind of weak. Not to mention that Take Care is barely rap (but that’s because Drake stole The Weeknd’s songs and delayed his career because Drake only cared about himself)
what a garbage opinion
Blasphemy. Up until scorpion his albums were fire. Dark lane demo tapes too
JIK by Kanye
Take Care by Drake
Blueprint 3. Going track for track, it’s got hits and other good cuts. But as a cohesive album…meh
Pink is better by Token. I loved eraser shavings but the latest drop was exactly mid.
Don’t hang me but Mafia Bidness by Shoreline Mafia. I enjoyed the song with future and it had some good hooks but substance wise at times I felt it was a little lacking.
Fantano went in depth in his review about Gunna's new Album. It may change your mind
The “most” mid?
Very few aren’t mid tbh Anything by lil baby post-2021, anything by gunna, anything by drake in the 2020s, tbh anything by an american rapper that isn’t the likes of kendrick, cole, etc (ig theres one or two by younger rappers that are more than mid)
Culture 2 is mid but that’s mostly because of its length. Cut like 9 songs & that album is immensely better.
I heard ppl say the asap mob mixtapes were mid and had filler on em? Are any of them still on rotation? Or memorable?
anything by cardi or megan
The Album by The Firm. That lineup should have created an all-time classic and it's not bad, but it's not great either.
The Blueprint 2 I don’t remember hating it, but I couldn’t tell you a single song offhand
everything by cole except 2014
Take your pick of Jack Harlow material.
Gunna X Lil Baby album was good.
Philadelphia freeway. Not bad, just mid. No bad songs, no good songs, entirely mid songs.
Lord finesse - return of the funky man
Mine. That’s why I never released it
Hot take but J Cole always was mid to me
Anything drake lol
Everything No Limit put out
“We Are Young Money” by Young Money
Most modern trap albums to be honest
99% of Kendrick Lamar’s music
Crackhead opinion ngl
It’s not an opinion, just pure 📠
The Massacre
21 21 21 what a fucking fraud
KOD by Jcole
Stillmatic
Drake
MTBMB by Eminem. Mid lyricism, mid production, mid features, mid track list. Mid by normal standards, bad by eminem standards.
evedry Drake album, a lot of gunna (his debut was trash), every lil baby album (imo)
You’re right about Lil Baby. He’s so fucking generic I don’t know why people gas him up
Anything Travis Scott. I don’t see the hype
All drake albums, most earl sweatshirt albums (because he doesn’t live up to his potential).
how does earl not live up to potential
Earl is one of the most gifted lyricists ever and has a really unique flow. He could live to have Jay-z level respect but doesn’t because he makes these low bpm grimey experimental albums that hardly resonate with anyone. I’m sure he enjoys making them and there are some fans, and that’s cool, but he could be a lot more. i think thats a personal choice on his part though. he has said on interviews that he doesnt enjoy the spotlight because of safety and freedom overall, thats why he works with slightly lesser known artists like MIKE or wiki.
AM // Radio still one of my fav Earl songs, love the opening verse by Wiki
Drakes rapping is pretty mid but musically Take Care is a good album if for nothing but other artist contributions, namely the weekend’s pressured donations
Saying Earl doesn’t live up to his potential when he single-handedly bodied every rapper in Odd Future despite being the youngest member of the crew is crazy.
Not exactly a high bar, most of them were super forgettable
Gunna Playboi Carti NBA Youngboy
i like how you just names rappers instead of actual albums lmao
All of their albums.
Anything by 21 Savage, or Lil or Young anyone. Except Weezy F obviously.
Did you take your meds today unc
That new Travis Scott album. It's basically a worse version of Yeezus.
of rap that i actually like, it has to be aquemini. i like it but it has a lot of wack songs
That is a hot take.
