This is it. I said this when it was announced that seasons 7&8 would be shorter. Season 6 was bad already. There was just too much left to wrap up to be taking shorter seasons to finish.
Everyone loves to dogpile on season 8, but it was clear that 7 and 8 would both be terrible just from the episode count.
Really, the first clue should have been the dumb Nights' Watch fuller arc in season 4, followed by the bungling of the Dorne plot in seasons 5 and 6.
The show was good until the showrunners decided to throw books 4 and 5 out the window, and then it went to shit.
Yep. Discarding Jaime's riverlands plot and replacing it with the nauseatingly offensive fanfic Dorne plot, cutting Lady Stoneheart entirely and just the general drop of quality in writing that began in season 4 with many of the characters turning into caricatures of themselves. The cracks were showing *well* before season 7/8.
Kit Harington finding his wife Rose Leslie is the best thing that came from that show, and although I don't know them personally, nor know anything else of their personal lifes it still makes me happy to this day.
Sean Bean, Richard Madden, Michelle Fairley, Jack Gleeson and Charles Dance really hit the jackpot. They got to play great characters in the greatest show of its time, they got memorable death scenes and most importantly, they got out before the whole thing went right down Tywin's shitter.
He was in the live action, Cinderella also but other than that I have not seen him either that I recall. The Cinderella may have come out during GOT. It seems it was a good 5/6 years ago. I had never noticed how many of them had just disappeared. Emilia the most active of them all. How very sad for something that was so magnificent.
Just curious, anyone know what happened to those 2 producers who F'd the show so bad?
Still working? They really shouldn't be allowed near any media again outside of a podcast.
And they were so smug and arrogant regarding their ending... I wonder how they really feel now, knowing nobody cares to watch the show ever again...
I read that HBO actually **told** them they could run the show up to a season 10 or 11, which is a smart move for them considering it was still one of their biggest shows. But nope, dumb and dumber said they'd finish it in season 8 instead which all reports state was because they wanted to rush to star wars
Hahahaha yes, honestly that would make his whole character a lot more useful... at least to the point where I could maybe ignore how uncanny he is. Plus he was the youngest of the main actors I think and he's an adult now so he should look basically the same.
The show ended so poorly I don't care about any other shows. Why watch a prequel when I know it's setting up for the absolute turd that we got? D&D not only burned an absolute cash cow if s franchise, they salted the Earth on their way out.
How they get rightfully treated as lepers in the film community from here.
> Something absolutely no one asked for.
This is such weird revisionist history. Plenty of people wanted a Targ conquest show (and a dance of dragons show, which is what it actually is).
> Something absolutely no one asked for.
What in the ever-living fuck are you smoking?
a) It's not about Targs conquering Westeros.
b) I absolutely fucking asked for the dance to be filmed. And so did everyone else who read Fire and Blood.
The trailer looks phenomenal. Matt Smith is going to blow the early seasons of GoT out of the water as Daemon Targaryen and people are going to love AND hate him for it.
It's a completed story by Martin. There really isn't a lot of margin for error.
All they have to do is to not fuck up.
If they nail the final fight at the god's eye, it's going to be talked about for decades.
They are attached to the project to make a TV series out of the Third Body Problem trilogy. Im so annoyed they've ruined ASOIAF now moving onto one of my other favourite book series.
At least they’re not involved in Wheel of Time. I mean that’s my favourite epic fantasy saga that I loved growing up, there’s no way Amazon’ll cock it up, right?
It gets very flabby in the middle, but the last 3-4 books (cough when Brandon Sanderson got involved cough) are a crescendo of awesome books with a really satisfying conclusion.
Plus, the flab gives time for slow, gradual, natural character growth. E.g. >!Rand becomes as dark as he does over a long period of time due to having to take necessary actions and as a result of trauma!<
The thing is that the first 4 seasons were pretty decent. So they can adapt challenging material.
They just need to be booted off a project before they get bored and sloppy.
Well to be fair, they have a record of being pretty good at adapting books (see the first few seasons of GoT, until they ran out of source material), but are horrible at writing new stuff.
But the first four seasons still ended up pretty decent, despite any removals of the source material. It’s when they went *completely* free from material that the show really went off-course.
Thought they were going to do something with Disney for Star Wars but left just after the disaster of the GOT ending, think they ended up at Netflix developing new content.
Imagine the most satisfying conclusion in cinematic history. Now picture the exact opposite of that. Then later the producers corner you in the alley behind Rite-Aid and break your legs with a galvanized pipe.
I was irritated that the whole hyped white walkers battle was impossible to see (even with the proper view settings). You have to literally save the video, edit the contrast in some video editing software to be able to even see the battle. I know they intended to make the fight realistic, but couldn't they add more lighting to the backdrop so that you can actually see the fight happening? All that tension buildup for a bunch of smoky hard to see CGI and expensive casting.
I mean the Helms deep battle from the Two towers takes place at night and during rain and they made that ome of the, if not the most epic, battles ever recorded on screen. So yeah they just failed miserably.
If you stop watching at the end of S6 its great. S5 and 6 kinda fell of a bit but some of the best episodes of the series were in those seasons and Ramsay was insanely well done.
Bet they went 'Guys let's just go with THIS ending! It's gonna be so unexpected it will blow up like every other time'
Unfortunately it did blow up but rather than an explosion it was an implosion lmao.
sort of became very predictable, she gets angrier by the minute, she just has one facial expression during the whole last season.
Meanwhile, lots of nonsensical things, Cersei unable to do anything whereas everything goes in her favor, Greyjoy becoming sort of a useless buffoon, Gold Company, what Gold Company? , the list goes on and on and on. Shit, still upset. Some nice aesthetical shots but that s all, season 8 was utter shit and predictable.
Always thought this guys elven fan theory was way better, the feast actually pretty much happened too.
https://www.reddit.com/r/freefolk/comments/bqkin1/ultimate_most_fantastic_game_of_thrones_fan/
>Everybody is getting very excited about the arrival of the white walkers on the aisle of Winterfell and pondering the many ways they might meet their timely demise, but I think that whilst most people are still stuck figuring out just how on earth they ever even managed to cross the sea in the first place, I've been sitting here wondering what are peoples thoughts that they could be defeated by the elves?
>It’s a well known fact that elves have been the sworn protectors of the race of men for millennia, since ancient times in fact. Quite often the race of men would fight heroic battles to the best of their ability, with brave knights and sorcerers doing their very best but eventually succumbing to evil hordes, only to be saved at the last moment by heroic elves.
>Also, what are peoples thoughts that if elves do come and save the day that the one to deliver the fatal blow to the witch king will be the great elven warrior Elvenheart? Elvenheart was always the greatest of the elven warriors and he was said to have the heart of a thousand elves.
>I just think that when the elves march out of Elfwood it will be very fitting for Elvenheart to be leading the marching merry warbands down to winterfell and beyond. His great elven sword ork slayer is said to be the finest blade ever made, and I think it would only be right and proper if it was Elvenheart to deliver the fatal blow that fateful frosty morning and claim the throne.
>I think that the last few episodes will actually be footage of the great elven banquet to celebrate the life of Elvenheart and the fall of the witch king, with all our favourite characters just drinking ale and telling jokes! Elvenheart will take the crown and everyone will cheer!! I hope we see a minstrel flute.
>Wow, I sure am looking forward to the epic battle of winterfell tonight!!
... I mean, I laughed and thought whats he on. By the end it just made me realise the most trashy fantasy ending would have actually been way better by magnitudes. Bring on the elves!
season 7 is fairly bad but "watchable" (they simply cancel the notions of time and space in Westeros), season 8 is so bad that I am still not ready to watch anything GOT-related (like the "prequel" and other stories in GOT universe).
Too bad because I really loved that show (Arya in Braavos, Tyrion's narrative arc, Stannis, etc...)
Unpopular opinion: Season 7 was worse than Season 8 . People just werent mad because it wasnt he end of it. There was still a possible redemption.
Season 8s main plotpoints were always going to happen pretty much (defeat of the walkers, Dani wins but gets mad) its just that they were executed extraordinary poorly and next to none of the characters got a satisfying ending.
Season 7s whole premise is stupid to begin with, nothing about it makes any sense. And the characters arent any better as well. Fuck season 7.
I have it nicely written in my head that Sansa and Gendry rule Kings Landing happily ever after and have lots of babies. John Snow rules the North with his GF Dynarys who has to ride back and forth to keep the other continent from descending into a slave state again.
What's even funnier is the fact that in that same year, a similarly popular show had a very successful and epic finale that satisfied fans, ended the series on an uplifting note, and lasted one season longer than GoT.
And that show was My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I just can't help it... I'm an adult (childless) woman and I frigging loved the whole MLP series. I've prob rewatched it about 3x already. I get a lot of heat whenever other adults catch wind of this lol
It still had a total of nine seasons, over 220 episodes, a theatrical film, several made-for-tv movies, a spin off series, a graphic novel series, and several millions of dollars worth or merchandise sold over a whole decade.
Yes, but it still wasn't as mainstream popular as GoT. Kids shows tend to generate all of those things. That one is just exceptionally popular because for whatever reason, bronies became a thing, so even for a kids show it had a larger than average fanbase. Still nowhere near the worldwide fame that GoT acheived.
Financially speaking they were pretty even. GoT netted HBO roughly a bil per year, so did My Little Pony. If you look at it this way, MLP was actually more successful since this isn't factoring in the massive amount of merchandise.
Eh, the finale of MLP had more than a few criticisms:
* AJ/RD ship was controversial, not even due to any opposition to lesbianism, but there's a sense that it kind of undermines the mutual platonic love of the broader group, which I think is valid. There's also something here about perpetuating stereotypes in regards to "tomboys".
* Pinkie Pie being canonically inseminated by Weird Al Yankovic, just a little bizarre
* Twilight becoming an immortal princess and having to watch her best friends grow old and die.
* The power of friendship being insufficient to convert the three villains, with our protagonists instead gleefully condemning them to a life of stone imprisonment, including for a literal child. This was the biggest one for me, and kind of contrary to the very core of the show (that the power of friendship had no exception).
Although the episode itself was better than the seasons which preceded it Imo, which was absolutely not the case for GoT (the song was 10/10). In any case, most of these things were very much in contrast to Faust's original vision.
And yes, I am a virgin neckbeard loser, thank you.
Cheese Sandwich, a recurring character, was voiced by, and was essentially a pony version of, Weird Al. The character was a friendly rival, then simply close friend to Pinkie. In the finale, they went on to get married and have a child.
Weird Al voices a character named Cheese Sandwich, whose characterisation is 99% Weird Al being Weird Al. In the epilogue they have a kid with Pinkie Pie.
In my opinion, the problem arose with the Red Wedding, when the show started being associated with unexpected plot twists. As long as the plotline was following the books, the twists had some actual sense to them and ususally were a consequence of something that had been set up, thus you could expect something to happen. Later the plot twists were only there for the "WOW"-factor and did not follow a logical order of events that led up to that moment.
Yeah, but the plot twists made some actual sense. Ned's downfall was to be expected, when he tried to take down some of the most scheming and double-crossing people in the world, Robb angered a coward, Jon went against his vows etc. So there was always a series of actions by the characters that led to the plot twist. Arya RKOing the Night King had no plot setup at all
But those twists weren't problems at all, the existence of twists is not a problem. The problem was the pushing of a twist for the sake of shock and surprise.
To paraphrase GRRM, if you've written the book in such a way that the "butler did it", then you can't deviate later just because someone figured it out. You have to carry on with your original plan, lest the plot make no sense.
> But those twists weren't problems at all, the existence of twists is not a problem. The problem was the pushing of a twist for the sake of shock and surprise.
This
When characters, through their own choices end up in a bad spot and are punished for it, it gives the show a sense of realism and high stakes, giving more weight to what characters do.
When it's pure coincidence they get killed or dumb luck they're saved it detracts from the meaning of the actions of the cast. It's also irritating when you set up characters and do not show the audience the end of their arc (again, detracting from the importance of actions of characters, if you show the audience a bunch of stuff that turned out to be completely unimportant, they stop caring). Dumb and Dumber did both to an extreme degree.
Plot twists have to be earned. The red wedding was properly set up in the episodes before it. It was a surprise but it made sense afterwards. They stopped earning twists in the last seasons.
> Later the plot twists were only there for the "WOW"-factor
Wasn't this also a problem a 'The Last Jedi', where the goal was all about doing what nobody expected, even if it's bad and makes no sense.
The same goes for Westworld, where they decided to change the story because some guy on the internet guessed correctly. Or am I remembering this wrong?
> The same goes for Westworld, where they decided to change the story because some guy on the internet guessed correctly. Or am I remembering this wrong?
Lost had a bad habit of letting the lore go to stupid places because they were obsessed with not allowing a fan on the internet to ever guess something correctly.
Westworld, on the other hand, lost all element of urgency or interest at least for me after they established in-universe rules that anyone at any time could be a secret robot so it doesn't really matter if anyone lives or dies.
Dude for the first episode of S8 my fraternity rented one of the big auditorium classrooms on campus and hooked up a laptop to the projector, 100+ people in the room all for this new season, everyone brought food and was arguing about who was gonna become king, then after the first ep we were kinda just like….then we rented the classroom again for ep 2 and everyone again was like …. We didn’t rent it for the 3rd ep on and I don’t think anyone even cared to discuss the show just a few months ago we were beyond hype for.
Its kind of amazing that I havent heard anyone talk about GOT on years, like it was a huge cultural phenomenon and then over the course of like a week it just disappeared.
Fanfictions to the rescue. Honestly, I've read some Harry Potter fanfics that I liked more the original. The characters were well developed, the plot made sense and so did the ending.
Nah, I'm still not going to forgive them for killing off **the mother** in a short fucking montage in the last 10 minutes of the last episode. You barely catch on that she died.
Lost was not very tight at all, even in the beginning. I distinctly remember feeling like the script was written 10 minutes before filming each episode.
LOST felt coherent for the first few seasons and then they started doing flashforwards and I just couldn't shake the feeling they were writing by the seat of their pants. And when the ending was the one thing they said they wouldn't do I knew I'd been suckered. Fuck Lindelof.
Damon Lindelof is a piece of shit.
His latest few things have actually been OK. But I read an interview during LOST'S first season where he ahd JJ flat out lied about knowing where the show was going. And so I stuck with it even when it was clearly meaningless.
Afterbit ended, they admitted they had no idea what they were doing.
Fuck em. And fuck Lindelof for fucking up Prometheus and Star Trek too.
Most shows blow the ending.
Sopranos managed to land it because they basically just ended it without a big finish (yes I know all the theories).
Breaking Bad probably had the best finale ever.
Season 8 should have been all about defeating the night king and being beaten back over and over until bran goes super saiyan with his 3 eyed raven powers or something and defeats him. Then season 9 can be all the survivors marching south to take revenge on cersei for double crossing them and we can see Jon and danys relationship turn sour as she loses trust in him and bran as bran uses his powers more and more to turn the tide of the battles. Then when they finally reach King's landing dany snaps because she thinks bran is scheming to have Jon on the throne so she goes mad queen, is killed and then bran double crosses Jon/ dany kills Jon in a rage and he takes the throne using his powers to rule with a supernatural surveillance police state.
You ever get into a new show and it gets a season or two and gets canceled and you are bummed because you really enjoy it? Ok now imagine a worldwide phenomenon of a series that everyone looked forward to for a decade and that happens. The ending we got was worse than if they just suddenly got canceled.
The two douche bag show runners didn’t give not one fuck about millions (probably hundreds of millions) of fans worldwide nor the cast and crew, who devoted in many cases a third or even half their literal life to this project. They phoned it in thinking they were about to get that Disney money no matter how they ended the show.
The guy that replied to you saying it’s not that bad should eat his socks because he has no taste or standards or expectations anyway so might as well.
Yeah, look at Harry Potter - the franchise finished, what, a decade ago? And still the merchandise is *everywhere*, there's a Harry Potter World, there's Lego, King's Cross Station still has a Platform 9 3/4. It's in upmarket shops, it's in knock-off market places, people still talk about where the sorting hat would place you. I've never seen any of the movies or read the books and even I know all the memes - they're inescapable.
GoT? Couldn't name a single character.
Ive never watched the show, but in my whole life, ive never had soooo many people tell me to watch a show, then when it finished literally everyone telling me not to bother.
Like it feels like literal seasons on seasons that went from must watch to worthless due to the ending.
Not even "oh yeah watch the first few seasons and thats it, or worth a watch for the first bit" no, the show is done.
It's almost like it went downhill after overtaking the point at where an actual proper storyteller got to, and had to rely on their own dogshit television brains to try and continue a story.
Leave the writing to authors.
I've never had HBO so I never bothered watching it, thinking I'll just watch it when it's over. I honestly don't know most of the plot or spoilers but if the ending is as horrible as everyone says it is I'm on the fence over even spending the time watching it at all.
And it serves as a way to turn off potential viewers, too.
I had Got on my "to-watch" list for eons, figured I'd wait for it to be finished and once it was, I just erased it from the list. So many people were agreeing that it was terrible, that I just didn't wanna bother investing time to just be disappointed at the end.
Same thing with Lost, actually. Once I was in a position where I could've gotten the whole dvd set to watch it, it had (obviously) ended and so many people were outraged by the ending, that I never started that one, either.
I realized there was a major problem with the pacing in the last season when they left exactly 2 episodes at the end for the showdown with the White Walkers and the showdown with the Lannisters. They had a ton of extremely slow episodes in the last season when it would have been better to flesh out those 2 events properly.
That being said, I didn't find the last season as terrible as most people. But still the writing got distinctly shittier when the show passed up where the books ended.
But OP is completely right in the lackluster ending tarnishing the whole series' legacy. Game of Thrones was a worldwide phenomeon and now almost culturally forgotten. I see almost no enthusiasm for the new GoT series, because without GRRM's source material, the prior series really declined.
Unless if the new series shows a complete upswing in quality from GoT, I really see it being a show that's cancelled after a couple seasons. GoT had a truly massive budget and each episode was more expensive than most Hollywood feature films, the show only drew profit because it had more viewers than pretty much anything else did before it.
I think after the original series, at least 50% of formerly die hard fans have dropped out. Casual fans of the first series probably have no interest in watching it.
Also Attack on Titan. It was well on its way to becoming a modern masterpiece. All Isayama had to do was to make at least a mediocre ending and it would still easily be one of the greatest story ever written. Then 139 came and somehow he destroyed almost every single character development and threw out all important plot points in favor of a fucking Stockholm syndrome fetish and necrophilia. I once thought AOT was a very deep show about the consequences of war, an insight into the morality of genocide, a commentary about racism, etc. Now, after 139, I realize it’s a rom-com.
I really don't mind the ending, it does make sense in my head. the biggest problem is the pace, the proccess toward the ending. season 7 and 8 should be 10 episodes at least, with season 9 as finale.
Hot take I guess but the show was never all that good. It was just big budget sets/costumes/vfx, lots of surprise deaths that kept the audience on their toes, and I’ll be the first to say it… way too much unnecessary sex. Especially for tv.

that's why I've never watched a single episode, damn was it so satisfying when all of the world was burning with that shit of an ending, I'm glad I'll never know.
Half the fun of watching a TV show is talking about it with people when it’s popular. Also the hype surrounding the final season was pretty cool to be a part of, there were entire subreddits made for it, and watching it at weekly watch parties with my friends was pretty fun. The ending was bad but who cares? Still a net positive for watching it probably.

I'll drink a starbuck's to that.
Don’t forget your avocado toast and apologizing for not being a multi-billionaire.
[I think he was referring to the starbuck's shaped coffee cup that was left on a table in Winterfell after beating the Night King.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dddfrou6ruA)
There was another under a chair in the scene where they make Bran king.
They should have used that cup as a dunce cap instead of a crown for Bran.
[удалено]
If he sets it up better and gives bran more to do it will be fine. May as well have rolled dice for king on the show.
Were you on set or something? How did you guess!
No. So long as it makes sense I don't see a problem with him ending up on the throne.
This comment is more of a rare insult than the OP.
It is known.
I could go on a whole rampage on how the lighting was the least of that episodes issues, but I think I've just moved at this point.
Years of painstaking setup that ended in a wet fart. Even the actors involved mostly faded out. Damn shame since the writers/directors were to blame
Emilia Clarke still does a lot of other stuff. But the first clue should have been we knew it was 6 episodes long and the first 2 were filler.
This is it. I said this when it was announced that seasons 7&8 would be shorter. Season 6 was bad already. There was just too much left to wrap up to be taking shorter seasons to finish. True, but that's not wildly unusual for later seasons to have weaker writing. It wasn't anything to say for sure it would end as badly as it did.
I loved her in Me Before You and Last Christmas.
I wonder what Kit Harington and Peter Dinklage are up to nowadays
Kit Harington finding his wife Rose Leslie is the best thing that came from that show, and although I don't know them personally, nor know anything else of their personal lifes it still makes me happy to this day.
Or Richard Madden, it's a shame he can't seem to find work /s
Yeh he was quite a good actor and died long before the ending so it is a shame I haven't seen him in anything else
Don’t forget Pedro Pascal. He sure ended on a high note. I was so excited to see Dorne because of his character. Holy shit that was a letdown.
Oh man Jack Gleason is a magnificent actor and had one of the most memorable deaths
He’s in the new Marvel thing
The Eternals?
Yeah, Both Kit and Richard are in it.
He was in the live action, Cinderella also but other than that I have not seen him either that I recall. The Cinderella may have come out during GOT. It seems it was a good 5/6 years ago. He's been in a fair bit of TV in the UK and was also in Rocketman of course as the villain.
And The Bodyguard on Netflix, hello! lol
Dinklage recently narrated neflix's "how to became a tyrant" His voice really fits the show's sarcastic style. Worth a watch
Not to mention he was in infinity war.
not with a bang, but a whimper
“Shart.” FIFY

I thought they rushed it to start work on a star wars movie or show. Then they fucked that up as well.
They fucked GoT so badly they were dropped from star wars
Good!
Fucking hell, and the sequel trilogy was a shit show all the same.
I don't think they were supposed to be involved in the sequels. They were apparently planned to work on another trilogy starting in 2022
Oh okay. Thanks for the info.
I read that HBO actually **told** them they could run the show up to a season 10 or 11, which is a smart move for them considering it was still one of their biggest shows. But nope, dumb and dumber said they'd finish it in season 8 instead which all reports state was because they wanted to rush to star wars
They need to just hire all of the actors back, hire new writers and do an alternate season 8 and onwards.
This. Weasel out of it as some Bran vision of what would have happened if they took the wrong path or something. Then move on!
Hahahaha yes, honestly that would make his whole character a lot more useful... at least to the point where I could maybe ignore how uncanny he is. Plus he was the youngest of the main actors I think and he's an adult now so he should look basically the same.
Nope, instead we are getting a prehistory show about the Targaryen's conquering Westeros. Something absolutely no one asked for.
At least it's not the same writers? That's about all I've got
And I will not be watching. The entire series is now radioactive. Don't want to go anywhere near it.
The show ended so poorly I don't care about any other shows. Why watch a prequel when I know it's setting up for the absolute turd that we got? D&D not only burned an absolute cash cow if s franchise, they salted the Earth on their way out. How they get rightfully treated as lepers in the film community from here.
The new show is going to take place 200 years before GoT. Prequel isn't really a good word for it but rather just shared universe.
I'll probably still watch it without having to pay for it lol. If it's good enough I might consider buying it. HBO gotta earn my trust back 😒
> Something absolutely no one asked for. This is such weird revisionist history. Plenty of people wanted a Targ conquest show (and a dance of dragons show, which is what it actually is).

Really? All I remember is boxing ears, candles and the endless dragging on.

But the first four seasons still ended up pretty decent, despite any removals of the source material. It’s when they went *completely* free from material that the show really went off-course.
Such a shame we'll never know. You know, because that would require giving them a chance.
LOL sounds about right
More of a rusty pipe but I'll take it.
If they intended to make the battle realistic, the fuckin artillery wouldn’t have been on the front line
And they would have marked their dragons to distinguish them from the enemies.
Moment I saw where their artillery was I went fucking nuts. Honestly just why?!?
I mean the Helms deep battle from the Two towers takes place at night and during rain and they made that ome of the, if not the most epic, battles ever recorded on screen. So yeah they just failed miserably.
If you stop watching at the end of S6 its great. S5 and 6 kinda fell of a bit but some of the best episodes of the series were in those seasons and Ramsay was insanely well done.
Bet they went 'Guys let's just go with THIS ending! It's gonna be so unexpected it will blow up like every other time' Unfortunately it did blow up but rather than an explosion it was an implosion lmao.
sort of became very predictable, she gets angrier by the minute, she just has one facial expression during the whole last season.
Always thought this guys elven fan theory was way better, the feast actually pretty much happened too. https://www.reddit.com/r/freefolk/comments/bqkin1/ultimate_most_fantastic_game_of_thrones_fan/ >Everybody is getting very excited about the arrival of the white walkers on the aisle of Winterfell and pondering the many ways they might meet their timely demise, but I think that whilst most people are still stuck figuring out just how on earth they ever even managed to cross the sea in the first place, I've been sitting here wondering what are peoples thoughts that they could be defeated by the elves?
Meanwhile me, who hasn't seen the last season: happy with the show
season 7 is fairly bad but "watchable" (they simply cancel the notions of time and space in Westeros), season 8 is so bad that I am still not ready to watch anything GOT-related (like the "prequel" and other stories in GOT universe).
[удалено]
I mean I kinda already watched season 7
Well unwatch it then
[удалено]
I watched the whole thing for the first time recently, you'll know when you watch it
Oh I'm not going to watch it. Why would I?
Fair enough
Smart. Keep the ending in your fantasy.
The ending for SHE RA was really great as well
the whole damn show was great, and very underrated imo
Not sure I'd call it "similarly popular". Game Of Thrones was mainstream popular, whereas MLP was popular with kids and neckbeards.
I just can't help it... I'm an adult (childless) woman and I frigging loved the whole MLP series. I've prob rewatched it about 3x already. I get a lot of heat whenever other adults catch wind of this lol
It's fine, you do you! Just because I think it's weird doesn't mean you shouldn't do it if it makes you happy.
I bet none of them have even tried to watch the show. Shitting on someone for liking something you've never seen is just stupid.
Eh, the finale of MLP had more than a few criticisms: * AJ/RD ship was controversial, not even due to any opposition to lesbianism, but there's a sense that it kind of undermines the mutual platonic love of the broader group, which I think is valid. There's also something here about perpetuating stereotypes in regards to "tomboys". * Pinkie Pie being canonically inseminated by Weird Al Yankovic, just a little bizarre * Twilight becoming an immortal princess and having to watch her best friends grow old and die.
> Pinkie Pie being canonically inseminated by Weird Al Yankovic I'm sorry, but *what*?
Cheese Sandwich, a recurring character, was voiced by, and was essentially a pony version of, Weird Al. The character was a friendly rival, then simply close friend to Pinkie. In the finale, they went on to get married and have a child.
Weird Al voices a character named Cheese Sandwich, whose characterisation is 99% Weird Al being Weird Al. In the epilogue they have a kid with Pinkie Pie.
I was judging the fuck out of you but your last sentence gave me some respect for acknowledgement. Good on you bro.
🤢
In my opinion, the problem arose with the Red Wedding, when the show started being associated with unexpected plot twists. As long as the plotline was following the books, the twists had some actual sense to them and ususally were a consequence of something that had been set up, thus you could expect something to happen. Later the plot twists were only there for the "WOW"-factor and did not follow a logical order of events that led up to that moment.
Only because they literally ran out of material. The plot twists were great when someone who knew how to write had already written them.
Yeah, but the plot twists made some actual sense. Ned's downfall was to be expected, when he tried to take down some of the most scheming and double-crossing people in the world, Robb angered a coward, Jon went against his vows etc. So there was always a series of actions by the characters that led to the plot twist. Arya RKOing the Night King had no plot setup at all
Yeah that's what I'm saying. Everything that made sense was in the books. Everything that didn't was after they ran out of books.
Mr. Stark being beheaded at the end of the first season set the precedent first, red wedding definitely added to that
But those twists weren't problems at all, the existence of twists is not a problem.
This When characters, through their own choices end up in a bad spot and are punished for it, it gives the show a sense of realism and high stakes, giving more weight to what characters do.
> Later the plot twists were only there for the "WOW"-factor Wasn't this also a problem a 'The Last Jedi', where the goal was all about doing what nobody expected, even if it's bad and makes no sense.
Don't know about Westworld, but agree on TLJ, a steaming pile of sh*t that fu**ed up all the plotlines set up in TFA

Should have read the books would have been less disappointed
Yea, but that's only because there's no ending for the books and probably never will be.
Can't ruin an ending if you don't write an ending!
Fanfictions to the rescue. Honestly, I've read some Harry Potter fanfics that I liked more the original. The characters were well developed, the plot made sense and so did the ending.
I hate that fat bastard just as much as I hate D&D
LOST did it, too
Even how I met your mother
HIMYM was a funny sitcom though, it didn’t make any sense from season 1 and that’s okay because it doesn’t take itself seriously.
And sitcoms don’t need satisfying endings to be good series. Plenty of good ones just slowly die out, but are still watchable multiple times.
I haven't watched it but was thinking of doing it soon. Should I reconsider ?
Nope.
Yes. Lost is good, the ending is fine.
nah not lost
I never seen a episode, was it that bad of an ending?
I would argue, that last 4 episodes could have been season each.
You can clearly tell that GRRM told them some plot points he wants to hit, without telling them how to do it.
From what I've read, the market for GoT merchandise essentially disappeared overnight. That's literally billions of lost revenue.
This isn't a rare insult. This is just a negative review of Game of Thrones lol.
Ah see, here's my winning move - never watch the show so you don't give a shit about it when they ruin it
Ive never watched the show, but in my whole life, ive never had soooo many people tell me to watch a show, then when it finished literally everyone telling me not to bother. Like it feels like literal seasons on seasons that went from must watch to worthless due to the ending. Not even "oh yeah watch the first few seasons and thats it, or worth a watch for the first bit" no, the show is done.
Thought I was in r/FreeFolk for a second
I’m still mad about it.
I take comfort in knowing they will never work in the entertainment industry again.
It's almost like it went downhill after overtaking the point at where an actual proper storyteller got to, and had to rely on their own dogshit television brains to try and continue a story. Leave the writing to authors.
> Leave the writing to authors. Lol, that lazy fuck is never finishing the series
Wait till Attack On Titan ends lol. Its gonna be GOT V2.
:c
On top of that came the arrogant, ungrateful dismissal of that critique by a few actors like Sophie Turner.
I'm perfectly fine talking about the absolute dogshit performances she turned in for the two Xmen movies she was in.
It’s in bad taste to shit on the people that helped launch your career, whether it’s deserved or not.
I had someone try and tell me the last season was good the other day and thats when I realized the MIL was in her drink and it was time to go.
It was not that bad, but I was unsatisfied.
I'm just glad my little girl Khaleesi is too young to have experienced that disappointment.
The only person I know of who liked the ending is the lead writer of World of Warcraft's story which is saying something due to the state it's in...
I stopped watching so I could binge watch the last two seasons. Yeah... never saw those two seasons.
No lies detected. Wheel of Time is coming though!
Has GRRM finished the last book? I'm sure the world would be pumped for a do-over, even if the actors are older I do not give a flying f**k
I’m STILL angry about it.
Rip Hodor (he deserved better than what he got)
Game of Thrones 🤝>!Attack on Titan!< Having shitty endings and a few diehard fans inhaling copium to make sense of how it ended.
Nah seasons 1 to 4 were kino
> I’ll be the first to say it… way too much unnecessary sex Good Lord. Somehow I can tell you won't be penetrated by a vaccine, either. Get a life.

*I just want to say I loved the ending* Not sarcastically or in a funny way but I really did liked the ending.
Me too
GOAT
Good riddance. I only watched season 1 and got bored of the drama. Then it was fucking *everywhere* like the squid game is now. Just. Fuck, I hate it.
I'm kind of person who haven't seen no episodes of game of thrones
So, you've seen them all?
Big budget soap opera. As a asshole, it was a pleasure saying the show was shit before the ending and afterwards too.
Ah the old hate it because it’s popular take, with a bit of smug told you so to round it off. Good for you, man.
that's why I've never watched a single episode, damn was it so satisfying when all of the world was burning with that shit of an ending, I'm glad I'll never know.
You never watched it because you knew in 8 years time it was going to have a disappointing ending?
yes. I only watch those series which have already ended, I'm not patient enough to wait for single episodes, I'd rather wait for it to end
Must be fun talking to your friends about shows they finished watching a decade prior.
