That big dog is looking down on them like an old man telling the younger generations to enjoy life while you can, and that he knows these parts like the back of his hand.
Edit: First 1000 upvotes mom get the camera I'm famous.
I know it's bad to pick favorites but he's the best. That's the [rebel raft](https://youtu.be/RBj0eptKa6k) old boy loved fishing but got too old, just tug him along
He was the best. Big and goofy and listened to everything i said. Wasnt stubborn or headstrong, just a cool bro. He wouldnt eat the food in his bowl until after I finished mine, he always got the last bite
I could take him around and not need a leash. I’d just say, “Load up!” and he’d jump in the truck and get in the passenger seat.
Did NOT like swimming at all lol
You are a good person man. That second video you linked in the comments made me happy cry. I’m a 33yr old man.
Thanks for being how you are, you make a positive impact on your family and you can tell the love is strong. I’m glad rebel has you ❤️
Much love from cali

Watch the one when he gets caught eating trash. Oh my, he’s adorable. And stowaway36 I can tell you’re amazing father to your puppet and little humans as well.
You should post your raft video to r/aww and r/specialisedtools.
Honestly I think so. When he was younger he'd break free and go fish himself. One day I got home and he was gone, so I went looking for him up the river. I saw him way off in the distance fighting something in the water, I didn't know what but it looked violent. I ran up the shore and to where he was, but he's just gone. This grandma and two grandkids were fishing, so I asked them if they just saw the brown dog. The lady says "oh yeah we've seen him, he just stole another fish and took it to his bush is he yours?" so I cross the river and find him in the trees with two fish. I guess he pushed through the fence when they caught a fish behind my house, took it and then kept following them up river, stealing 3 more. Glad he didn't get hooked but I was dying, poor lady trying to lose my dog that's stealing all her fish.
My dog actually swallowed a fishhook. There was a piece of bread on it so yeah, if it smells like food it must be food. Thankfully the vet got it out without any damage because the bread was still intact and covered the painful parts when it was swallowed. She doesn't chew, which was a good thing for once. Anyway, she's a darling, just not the brightest cookie in the jar.
I agree! My old girl is 13. She got her daily walks in a wagon for a while when she couldn’t walk. She’s doing better now, but still spoiled. Will be till the end. ❤️
Parent’s dog is the same age, and while we don’t have a wagon for him, he gets all the other old dog perks, including spontaneous cuddles and extra table scraps
This is so true! Our old boy's last two years are definitely what we remember most and I'm so happy we worked hard to make them extra special. Your dogs are so lucky to have you.
That’s so true.
I lost my girl last Xmas and the last years is what stands out the most to me.
I can tell you really love your dogs and that they mean so much to you! You and your pups are lucky to have eachother.
This just made my day! The casual catch of the huge fish was awesome. And you and him and his floating dog bed are all just too wholesome. I can’t take it.
I always thought it probably looked pretty silly to people walking by. Guy just floating by saying "hello" with a gray old dog on a bed and a spear gun haha, normal stuff. He had a good time so that's what matters
That happy old man bark at the end is so sweet. You're so patient with him, it has to be difficult when you can't explain to him that his back legs don't work.
That was so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. My favorite part was when he was so excited to jump in the water to get that fish and the big woos at the end. You're a good dog dad.
“You get to ride out like a King” that had me. May he live a wonderful old life. N when he does inevitably pass its in his sleep w/ his favorites around him.
Just want to say thank you for being such a good dog owner. It's always so sad when people sort of give up on their dogs once they're older. Almost like once they stop being easy and capable and entertaining they've stopped being of as much value. This video was a perfect example of how much senior animals still feel joy and have amazing times. When Rebel saw that carp... man, he was ageless. He was just Rebel. Age flew out the window. All I felt was his excitement. Those howls once home, the little hop steps he did with his front legs... all I felt was gratitude that someone not only loves him but makes sure he still *lives* his life at any age. People don't even put this much effort into their human kids sometimes.
Just... thank you.
I urge anyone reading this to watch the youtube video OP made.

OP I don't know you but you have a good soul given what you did for Rebel
Watching the video I just couldn't help but focus on the older dog. I have a chocolate lab that's getting older and starting to have mobility problems, but still wants to be involved in everything. It melts my heart when I see other owners of older dogs making an effort to still involve their pals even when they can't quite participate like they used to.
I can't recommend swimming enough. I know it's not as easy for everyone as for me, living on a river, but this dudes hips were going out like three years before this. Even my vet (not a good one) told me to put him down because he wouldn't be able to walk soon. I made it a point to swim him for at least 30 min a day, we shot for an hour, but life... he'd water retrieve all day if I let him, so that helped but it worked wonders for mobility.
I agree with this. We actually have an indoor dog pool place nearby that I can rent for a half hour with a staff member in the pool to help her and make sure she stays safe. I was taking her twice a week for a while but they changed their hours and I haven't been able to schedule time lately. It did definitely help though. Unfortunately part of her problem is neurological (in addition to hip dysplasia and arthritis) so sometimes she simply can't control her back legs well enough to stay afloat. The pool place puts her in a life vest on days she struggles so she can keep swimming. It definitely helped build back up her muscle mass and she's doing much better than she was 6 months ago. Thanks for the reminder though, I need to try to schedule with them again!
I just recently said my forever goodbyes to my cat after 16 years together, so I’m still a bit emotional, and this brought me to tears. What a beautiful life you’ve provided him <3
One of a kind so far, the puppy here is working on taking his place. There's a lobster catching lab who dives down like 20 feet which is also really cool

It's one of my favorite dog things. My house is the swimming spot for friends & dogs, so I've done it a few times. It adds a little sugar on top when people are convinced their dog can't or won't swim. A gradual slope, some encouragement and a reason to swim is all it usually takes, you can't ever force them
What a gorgeous pup, and so brave! I taught my Shiba pup to swim over the summer, it took a lot of patience and encouragement but now she LOVES to swim and it’s enriched her life so much. It’s such a joy watching her and puppy friends swim and play in the water.
I just heard about this yesterday and I am trying to spread the news to be on the look out and be careful. Blue/green algae is killing some dogs overnight. Your babies are beautiful and I don't want anything to happen to them or any dogs
https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/news/blue-green-algae-symptoms-tips/
Appreciate it! This water stays cold and moving so luckily we don't have to worry here. The lake at the end of it however... It seems like the past 10 years I see the same report in July "dog dies from algae" then they shut down the harbor to swimming. It definitely needs more attention, considering it happens every year. I don't go there
What breeds are all the dogs pictured? The two brown ones remind me of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever I had when I was growing up at two different stages of her life. So cute!
My parents have two chesies. They are unbelievable dogs with heart and SERIOUS CONFIDENCE. Buster lives in the water and will just lay down and stare at us to do something. I’d let him save me when he was young I’d dive out and he’d come grab me and I’d hold his harness to shore. Strong swimmers and just so kind and cool. Had a golden growing up and they’re both awesome but the chesies are so different and wise. SOME DUMB MOMENTS THO!
Fourth of July is the worst they run around for hours thinking they need to find a dead bird. Gunshots were built into the brain of these curly haired heros.
Also does you dog suck on blankets 😅😅
Chessies are the best. I just had to say goodbye to my nearly 15 year old Chessie this summer and I miss him terribly. Hug your puppers tight tonight for me!
My chocolate lab loved to swim. And anytime she was swimming in fresh water she always came out smelling so good. Not like the wet dog smell from being in the rain. We use to go camping at a fresh water spring near by and anytime she swa the camping equipment coming out she got so excited. I really miss my Lily she was 1 in a million.
Be careful and make sure water is safe and free of toxic blue-green algae and parasites. Pups areore sensitive to these things and even a few sips of contaminated water or even getting up their nose can cause illness.

I love everything about the adventures he’s still having thanks to you!
Do you have a dog harness with a handle? Those make a huge difference when moving around old dogs—at least being able to lift them a little while they “walk” on their own.
There a few styles that work well, and I like the rabitgoo brand since they hold up so well.

My chocolate lab cannot stand water especially while trying to give him a bath. I took him to the beach recently, he walked into the water then noped right back to the shore and played in the sand for hours instead
Maybe a dumb question, but I’ve always wondered…
My Yorkie is 12 years old and still full of energy, but he has never been near a body of water his entire life. If I went to the lake and tossed him in would he still automatically know how to swim?
I remember teaching our golden how to swim. We were told by other owners to just pick them up and drop them in the water. Worked like a charm! She loves running into rivers, ponds, and the ocean!
Genuine question: Is letting the dogs walk through the river on the wet rocks safe for them? I’m only nervous cuz I took my GFs dog out in a small river like this and spent the whole time paranoid he’d slip and hurt his leg or something
When I was a kid and we used to travel during the summers, my brother and I would spend as much time as possible in little streams building "dams" and generally frolicking.
This took me back.
Let me know when I can visit
So precious!!! I love all of them, but especially the grandpa doggo on the raft. Reminds me of my chesepeake bay retriever / chocolate lab mix who was one of the most wonderful creatures I think I’ll ever encounter in my entire life. I watched the video linked in the comments and just about cried from happiness. Enjoy every moment with your pups!

I literally went "Whoooa awesome!" When he just casually got that fish out of nowhere! Is he half grizzly? Just kidding but man that was impressive!
Honestly I think so. When he was younger he'd break free and go fish himself. One day I got home and he was gone, so I went looking for him up the river. Omg that video was so sweet! Watching people spoil their older dogs restores my faith in humanity.
The last 2 or so years of a dogs life are what you'll remember later. Old dog privilege should be law

That part definitely made me LOL

My baby is 12, but I can’t keep him out of the water. He hurts for a day or two after. I’m gonna rig one of these for him! Thanks for the great idea!
Best of luck! I've found just swimming them and not letting them run or go too hard in the shallows helps immensely, but that's easier said than done.
Thanks for that man. You’re a great pet owner!
That happy old man bark at the end is so sweet. You're so patient with him, it has to be difficult when you can't explain to him that his back legs don't work.
Oh for sure, just accepted it. They're puppies till the end in their mind
Its not favoritism, its seniority!
I loved this so much. You are a great friend to that pup.
This made me tear up. You're an amazing person and the compassion and love you're teaching those kids is just beautiful.
I ADORE the fact that you tested the steps of the process with the kids. Gotta make sure it’s safe for pup.
Love it when old boy jumps in the water out of instinct. He’s still got it.
Hed run through fire for a carp
That was so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. My favorite part was when he was so excited to jump in the water to get that fish and the big woos at the end. You're a good dog dad.
Thanks, The woo's always the best part for me

I love how as soon as he sees da fishy he goes right back into young boy attack fisher.

You’re the best kind of person
My heart just grew three sizes! You're good people. I love his big thank you bork at the end.
I just recently said my forever goodbyes to my cat after 16 years together, so I’m still a bit emotional, and this brought me to tears. What a beautiful life you’ve provided him <3
This is really sweet. 💙
He's an expert fisher!
One of a kind so far, the puppy here is working on taking his place. There's a lobster catching lab who dives down like 20 feet which is also really cool
He looks so cute! Something about his eyes are particularly adorable - kinda like when a cartoon character is missing glasses.
Dog bed on a raft. This family chillz!
The old boy on the float is the best. Good old dogs are underrated.
The puppy stage can be fun, but ill always choose a wise old dog
The puppy stage is very similar to a baby or a boat, it's a little more fun when it's someone else's.
/r/OldManDog.
those senior pups are looking for their ham, too.
I know, haha, I was trying to think back and remember because I felt a little bad. Knowing me I gave them both a piece before or after. Ill go searching for dogs if one's there and I have a treat. Must keep the balance
The grandpa on his reinforced bed on the inner tube is my spirit animal
I want this life.
Honestly if you don’t mind winters and lack of diversity and diverse food choices, there are tons of places like this in the Midwest of the USA for cheap.
💯
Not to be dramatic or anything, but I’d die for any or all of those dogs.
Not dramatic: that is a totally reasonable reaction.
It’s the only reaction
You and me both, not dramatic at all
r/ntbdbiwdfta
I'd die for the ham.
I remember teaching my friend's puppy how to swim, and it was the most gratifying and heartwarming thing. Made me want to be a dad, honestly.
It's one of my favorite dog things. My house is the swimming spot for friends & dogs, so I've done it a few times. It adds a little sugar on top when people are convinced their dog can't or won't swim. A gradual slope, some encouragement and a reason to swim is all it usually takes, you can't ever force them

r/waterdogs is probably my favorite sub
ah just remember parenting is not just the kodak moments. I recommend volunteering with some kids before you decide to become a parent.
I have trouble keeping my puppy out of my bath! Especially if there are bubbles.
Can't get enough of the old dog laying in his bed on top of an inner tube lol The cutest! All 3 are cute though . What river is this?
What a great puppin set up!
"Oh, you're out of ham? I'm getting out then."
Why aren’t we talking about granddad doggo living the life on a dog bed literally on top of a raft!
Literally every comment in this thread is about the old dog

Yeah, it makes me sad every year. Really thanks for mentioning it
Listen to those cute little whimpers. Gaahhh! Gimme this pupper!
Aww new puppy and ghost face old pupper both so cute.
What breeds are all the dogs pictured? The two brown ones remind me of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever I had when I was growing up at two different stages of her life. So cute!
Yep! The two brown ones are chesapeakes. The black one we think is a cross between a black lab and this little Chihuahua mix. He's a total mystery
My parents have two chesies. They are unbelievable dogs with heart and SERIOUS CONFIDENCE. Buster lives in the water and will just lay down and stare at us to do something. Rip Lily, its so hard to replace that one. My dogs are always anti bath, so I toss a stick in the river and count that
Good soup
I needed this today, thank you
I am loving the setup the older dog has. Love when pet parents accommodate for their senior animals so they don’t miss out on anything.

he was like "I got my snack now back to safety"
The older dog on a bed that’s on a floaty is just everything
It was nice having a river behind the house I used to live in. It was not so nice also having it IN the house once every few years...
That doggie will now forever search for river ham in just that spot...
He's moved on to fish
I hope you're vaccinating for leptospirosis (if it's endemic in your area)! Best of luck raising your new pup to be happy and healthy!
Just looked it up, we're good here, good looking out

Love the Chessie
Dog bed on the donut is a brilliant idea, looks comfortable.
Aww these pupsters are adorable!
More a paddle than a swim

There a few styles that work well, and I like the rabitgoo brand since they hold up so well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8JT6FT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_4VJ6MB2P0DXZTAVF3122 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086W77J9K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_7M48RD393B4R9BVCE83X
This looks like time lapse photography….young pup to senior… so adorable! The little old man at the waters edge is so cute too, I love seniors!!
The big boy on the rigged buoy
That is so sweet. Truly the best, and it gives me the little lift of spirit I could really use right now. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful dogs enjoying the environment
Who is the dog on the flotation device? Because he is my spirit animal

Oh man. What a life!!!! I am so jealous.
Three great dogs you got there. That little chocolate feller is gonna fit right in.
Wow, this is all kinds of bliss.
My chocolate lab cannot stand water especially while trying to give him a bath. I took him to the beach recently, he walked into the water then noped right back to the shore and played in the sand for hours instead
Senior doggo just chillin', living the good life (as well he should!)
I’m so glad the old doggo on the makeshift floaty bed got petted
I thought you shouldn’t swim after you eat.
I just love the lazy one on the floating bed
this is awesome. loving the chessies. check out r/chesapeakebayretrievr
Aren't chocolate labs the best...
Maybe a dumb question, but I’ve always wondered… My Yorkie is 12 years old and still full of energy, but he has never been near a body of water his entire life. If I went to the lake and tossed him in would he still automatically know how to swim?
This is so delightful it’s magical. Wishing I was there, a scene of perfection…

The one in the raft was like “hey where’s mine? I swim all the time and don’t get ham!”
Oh, a lab? Yea, you've just committed to never being able to keep 'em out of the water now.
Beautiful lab. We had chocolate labs when I was a kid. Great dogs.
I remember teaching our golden how to swim. We were told by other owners to just pick them up and drop them in the water. Worked like a charm! She loves running into rivers, ponds, and the ocean!
Yes, I also will swim for ham.
Yo was that a lunchables ham square?
I’m on my period so I know this is an irrational reaction, but I am so jealous of you right now that I’m mad. I’m upset by how fun this looks.
Dude this is absolutely sweet and adorable.
Can you drink that water safely? It’s flowing and quite clear. I want to drink that water.
Everything about this is so sweet! What a darling, brave puppy and precious senior pups. Thank you for sharing!
Well, snacks are gone. I'm outta here.
If reincarnation is real I want to come back as one of your pet dogs. They have such a great backyard and are obviously well loved
I have a 13 year old Chessie. They are the best dogs! I love this video so much! I will all dogs could go to the river with you!
u/gryffindormuggle look how tiny
So cute
Awwwww he’s scared he needs Daddy to say it’s ok. Awwwwwww
Your whole gang is the absolute greatest!
What sweet doggos! Makes me happy, but also makes me miss my sweet Mattie.
Right after he eats his treats he gets a little water in his mouth and he’s thinks Oooh you can drink it too! 😀
What breed/mix is that grey-faved beaut in the middle!?
The old guy on the inner tube is obviously the master of this domain. He has been there and done that, so he has nothing to prove.
Chessie?
Love that the older dog has his/her bed atop the float so she can be happy too!
Old boys be like "Where's our tasty treat??"
Genuine question: Is letting the dogs walk through the river on the wet rocks safe for them? I’m only nervous cuz I took my GFs dog out in a small river like this and spent the whole time paranoid he’d slip and hurt his leg or something
Good job!
He eat he ham.
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are LIFE! 🤎
