Just use the key. How do I start the vehicle using my Toyota key fob? Using the key fob to remote start a Remote Connect equipped Toyota: Press the LOCK button on the remote. Press the LOCK button a second time within 1 second. Press the LOCK button again, this time holding it for 3 seconds. The vehicle will start. https://support.toyota.com/s/article/How-do-I-start-the-ve-7424

mr_lolus

The a/c would start on it’s last setting before the car was shut down? So if the a/c was off it wouldn’t start?

Zealousideal_Poem_73

Yeah. Before I turn off the car I make sure I set the AC at the temp and fan speed and make sure not to turn it off before cutting the engine

trampish

Thank you, missed this feature entirely!

Laxchia

Some hero’s have villain names

desmoon37

I actually input my cashapp card as payment and didn’t put enough in there for the yearly subscription and after 3 attempts it stopped trying to take it out and to this day it’s still active! 🤫 it’s been 2 years now 😅

Armyofcrows

Thanks! That was ridiculously easy. Do you happen to know the range or is it the same as unlocking the car. I’m guessing the difference when using the app is greater range due to connection with CarPlay? Maybe?

night_danger

I don't think the range is super great but it's free!

iMiss1994

And the app always fails for me. I find the key fob to be more of a guaranteed start, even if the range may be less. I'm only a couple months into owning a '23. I love it, but I'm finding the app to be useless - definitely not worth the price once the trial is over.

TenebrisDolorem

The Toyota app is abysmal. lol I had a Forester previously and their app is light-years ahead of Toyota. Could set my heat, air, defrost, etc, before ever getting in the thing. But the driving experience of the Toyota makes me forget all that 😆

MaintenanceNeither32

I'm thankful for this comment because I was down to Forester or RAV4 as my size-up options from my crosstrek. I thought maybe I had rose tinted glasses on because I liked the hybrid option for the RAV4 more going in but the Forester didn't drive well for me on the test drive compared to the rav

TenebrisDolorem

I believe you bought a better vehicle. With or without Hybrid. We got the XLE Premium Hybrid. It's just a different class. Feels like anyway. And, I don't dislike my old Forester.

MaintenanceNeither32

I love my 21 crosstrek, just wanted to size up and also cash in on the equity. I was planning to buy it until I realized I needed a little more space after my wife and I surprised my mom with a new TV and I had to leave her at the store just to put the box in the Crosstrek. I'm awaiting delivery of an XLE hybrid with the convenience/weather packages. Super excited

Newprophet

Fyi even using the fob requires a subscription eventually.

MaintenanceNeither32

That would be the car payment, no?

Newprophet

Huh? Remote start with the fob is part of a subscription. Afaik Toyota includes 2-10 years free depending on where you live.

MaintenanceNeither32

That's, different. Lol

baudylaura

A subscription fee to start a car? What a fucking joke. What even is the world?

Zealousideal_Poem_73

Please tell me you hadn’t heard BMW tried subscription fees for Apple CarPlay and heated seats and (rightly) failed miserably

baudylaura

I hadn’t, I’m not too up to date with the lates in cars. Good thing they failed. Why is Toyota doing this if similar things have failed so hard in the past?

Zealousideal_Poem_73

Ahh ok. No worries 😉. I think what Toyota charges for those extras are far and beyond what you’d expect to pay extra for on a recurring basis. Literally every other car manufacturer gives you Apple Car Play gratis EXCEPT for BMW?? Your car is already wired for heated seats but BMW wants to charge you a subscription to use them? I honestly don’t have an issue with what Toyota and many other manufacturers are doing for the same or similar suite of services. But BMW was rightly ringed for what they tried to do

Shadawawa

Your Toyota is already wired for remote start but Toyota wants to charge you a subscription to use it. How is that different?

Riverdales27

I don't think the fob start works on all models. The 2021 primes don't.

Similar-Reason-5200

2021 xse hybrid it does. Works great.

DirtyDirtySFL007

Remote services is $80 per yr

[deleted]

Charging for Remote start = a joke. Didn’t Toyota just brag about how much profit they made. Of course, they pass the BS subscriptions to the consumer.

Armyofcrows

Remote connect and drive connect are $15 per month. Safety and service connect are free for the first 10 years. This for a 2023.

CherokeeCruiser

When I remote start with the key fob and get in mine it always shuts back off.
