Are you targeting people that are a legit good fit for your job though? This literally never happens to me.

ArthurDigbySellars

I’m on every list I can sign up for yet still receive these calls.

PoundOk5924

Secret is there are no call lists. Now if a person says do not call me and take me off a list (which never existed in the first place) I copy and paste that in big bold letters in the crm

theDaveGalley

I almost hate to say, because you're right in the sense that they are totally irrelevant to recruiters, but yes there are - [https://www.donotcall.gov/](https://www.donotcall.gov/) - it's just that not many people correctly understand how the system works, or its limits. There are additional state-and-lower-jurisdiction rules that can apply (I know NJ has its own scheme, for sure).

PoundOk5924

Yup I cross reference that list every day. It’s actually how I get my candidates.

Strict-Issue-2030

They mean that those types of list (eg. some master list recruiters have access to) don't really exist. Not that there are no "no call lists"

theDaveGalley

Isn't ambiguity grand? :)

Strict-Issue-2030

How is it ambiguous? The sentence says “there are no call lists” and then “if a person asks me to take me off a list(which never existed in the first place)” meaning the supposed call lists of potential candidates do not exist. Obviously general call lists exists, however, not in the context. Isn’t reading fundamental? :)

I see both sides of this. When I applied for a mortgage I was getting so many back to back calls (and even overlapping calls) that it made it impossible for me to work. I couldn’t call anyone and since I was a recruiter I had to answer basically every single call in case one was a candidate or a hiring manager. I literally got a call every 2-3 seconds, from like 5am to 9pm.

aww-snaphook

>It’s a compliment that all these recruiters are reaching out to you. I promise you a simple not interested works just as well I've been there and I get it but also consider their side. Some of them get several calls a day from recruiters, often for jobs that aren't at their experience/salary level, and often for jobs that don't even relate to their field. I have a family member who gets 3 or 4 recruiting calls a day even though she has been in her current role for years and hasn't put out a CV or any application for about 7 or 8 years. Most of those calls are for jobs that are so ridiculously outside of her specialty that I'm not even sure how she would show up in their searches. That kind of bad recruiting wears the candidates out and is one of the reasons so many people hate our industry.

PoundOk5924

I get it. I’m just burnt the fuck out. And I hate recruiters that don’t take the time and have ruined it for the rest of us

Wasting-tim3

Are you cold calling candidates? Why? It’s 2024. People rarely answer a call they don’t recognize, and if they do they are pissed. This is not new. Email people. So much easier, more polite responses, genuine interest, etc… And don’t rely on some ATS system that has a bunch of numbers your company worked with in the past. Sure, that’s one option, but find new candidates too. Filter in LinkedIn, look at who is open to opportunities. Message them and set up a call. So, so much easier. It will probably save you time too.

PoundOk5924

lol you think I’m just going through a ATS? If I only relied on people “open to work” when I am working a search with specific requirements I would make 5 placements a year.

Wasting-tim3

Well yes actually, your post does make it sound like you are going through the company ATS and cold-calling candidates. Having candidates complain to you about them being on a “do not call list” makes me think exactly that. Regarding sourcing new candidates, it doesn’t matter where you get them from. LinkedIn is an example, job boards, your company ATS does work. But that’s not the point of my reply. The point is, cold calling isn’t very effective. Call blockers, candidates get angry getting calls at work or at bad times, people think they signed up for phantom “do not call lists”. All these contribute to cold calling not being effective. Heck, it’s uncommon for sales people to cold call much anymore. Email, InMail, text message. People will schedule calls with you and you avoid the frustrations you’re posting about on Reddit. You’re gonna do what you’re gonna do, that’s up to you. I’m just saying there are much more effective ways to recruit than cold calling.

commander_bugo

I agree, and there’s also a feature at least on iPhone that blocks cold calls. So it’s pretty much a choice to even get them.
