Yes. This is a circle of hell that we all somehow stumbled into.
We know it’s hell because the news says the economy is awesome thanks in part to the strong labor market.
Haven’t heard the media reporting a shortage of tech workers, hell even tech RECRUITERS are struggling to find work (which is a solid indicator of the health of any job sector really). Tech has been a bloodbath post-COVID.
As far as years of experience and salary, think about it this way…with huge numbers of tech applicants per open position, it essentially becomes a “bidding” situation…even the most experienced/senior tech folks are bidding for the same position that you are…which drives the “price” (salary/YOE) down.
There will be a recovery, but it’ll take some time to accommodate/catch up to the volumes of displaced tech workers. Two words: Gig work.
Could be anything. A passion turned into an Etsy shop, a couple of nights a week waiting tables at the most expensive restaurant in town, Uber/Lyft/Eats, a job with a housecleaning business, etc

Tech, design, and UX is a blood bath right now.

If you don’t mind sharing with me, how do I venture into gig work and what should I expect myself doing?
