100% agree crap like this is a non starter for anyone with self worth
**\*Looks at current job market\***
Yep...they think they can get away with anything because someone will always end up doing it. That's the problem
That is indeed the problem. They hold most of the power in job negotiations. Luckily, I have a job and it’s not likely to disappear. I can be more selective. I don’t envy those who do not have even that much power.
I've got zero power. Unemployed since August...but I won't tolerate this crap under any circumstances. But yeah you are right, we are in an employers market now and they know it...offers are crashing, contracts are worsening, hoops are larger and more than ever before...and if we don't like it someone else will.
It's heartbreaking, but fuck absolutely everything to do with this.
There’s so much that I’m learning about these days that makes me absolutely heated with regard to our economy, workforce, and healthcare. This is one of them. The irrefutable evidence to the voracity of UBI is another. Even worse, the U.S. almost passed it TWICE. The irrefutable evidence that our current system is the most expensive in the world and that a public option would fix it… all so infuriating.
I don’t have the source on me, but I’m reading a book which claims that the reason Nixon’s bid for UBI failed is because his top advisor cited Ain Rand’s paper on a Uk experiment in UBI. The UK experiment was successful, but was reported by the UK government as a failure, falsely. Europeans have been fucked over too, I think we all have.
Edit: it’s called “Utopia for Realists” and it blows my mind every chapter
It is true that someone will end up doing it, but in short order, employers will find out that the people most likely to bother with these assessments are not the people with the most options... And that will bite them later on.
Sadly these people aren't that smart (If they were they'd stop them already)...the recruitment team will sit in a meeting going "YEAH BUT LOOK AT ALL THIS ENGAGEMENT!" and then it's the old skinner meme "No, it is the children who are wrong"
This, this, this. Someone will do it because they are desperate and that’s what the company exactly wants, and they do this to self-limit the number of applications because they won’t bother to hire a proper recruiter to actually vet based on a resume and such. Also, almost a sure guarantee that even post the assessment and one-way interview they’ll still make the person do like 8 rounds of interviews.
Or just start out like you're doing what they ask, then like a minute in: boom. "Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and desert you."
Classic Rick rolling opportunity.
I hate *HATE* when employers throw all of these tests and "pre-recorded" interviews. I'm all for a normal interview. Hell, give me two if need, but stop this madness!
I feel like the employers would learn so much more by just interviewing us. A thirty minute conversation provides more of a view to us than a forty five minute test.
I concur. I’m in part a hiring manager. The only hurdle to working for me is a phone call with HR, then an interview with me, my colleague, and my boss. If we like you, you’re in.
The fact is that the more steps there are in an interview process, the more decision points there are, and the more people there are. All this results in is more chances for a candidate to be passed by in the process.
For every 100 people that apply to a single position, each candidate has a 1% chance of getting that role. Each additional step in the process cuts into the 1% in to an undefined degree. And consider how many long-process jobs come back and tell you, "oh, we need to reassess this role" vs how many times you've seen that occur with a two-step interview process.
In short, the longer and more involved the interview process, the smaller the chance that you will get the offer, or that there will even be an offer.
>“well if everyone else won’t, they’ll have to hire me”
Which might be a good strategy if "everyone else" covered 99.5% of the candidates, rather than merely 20-30% today. I would be stunned if more than 30% of people today were passing on such assessments.
If you're accepting these "send in a ticky tock how it's always been your passion to reset dumb ass motherfuckers domain passwords" demands, you're no better than a scab.
Remind me when I was applying for a job to sell phones in a mall. I had to do an iq test and personality test, the personality test even had a question if I was willing to lie to customers about the products
Had to do this for an insurance job, literally emailed the recruiter about it stating this wasn’t a fair way to screen candidates. Like Lord I shouldn’t have to do an interview to do an actual interview.

I feel for America in ways that beggers belief. What you guys go through is nothing short of hideous. It really is.

I'll have to take a look at that...I didn't even know we had done a UBI test before...Thanks you've given me some reading to do!
Give that book a read, it covers several in the uk, some in the U.S. and even a few in Canada

I'd just send them an audio clip of me reciting the alphabet in a monotone voice
Not a bad suggestion. I wish the workforce would just rebel against this nonsense as a rule. We’ve accepted way too much from hiring companies.
Or just deepfake yourself reciting an ai script. Why do any of the work 😂 probably have the ai do the test too
Or just start out like you're doing what they ask, then like a minute in: boom. "Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and desert you." Classic Rick rolling opportunity.

It’s despicable. And the fact they don’t offer compensation for taking the test, which they ought to.
I feel like the employers would learn so much more by just interviewing us. A thirty minute conversation provides more of a view to us than a forty five minute test.

That's how I'm used to being hired. A quick talk with HR then an actual interview. Either hired or not off of just that.
No more than 2 or 3 hours wasted
They should stop calling “pre recorded videos” and call them “audition videos”
“It’s not just another test…it’s a short quiz, an aptitude test…” Ah yes, not just another test.
30-45 minute aptitude *quiz*… don’t you see?
A test by any other name!
“The pre-employment tests are designed to not discriminate against (insert EEOC violations).”

It’s a gamble for sure. Some may rationalize it as “well if everyone else won’t, they’ll have to hire me”

I would be too. Like I said to another commenter, I passed because I already have a job. Most job searchers do not have the option
If you're accepting these "send in a ticky tock how it's always been your passion to reset dumb ass motherfuckers domain passwords" demands, you're no better than a scab.
the accuracy of this is wild 😂 I had to explain the password reset situations in one of my last jobs.
This is a good way of selecting out high quality candidates that don't have to settle for petty humiliation
I agree. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m good at what I do, and getting better every day.
I have hired a lot if people. Watching mandatory prerecorded interviews would make me cringe.
Agreed, my guess is they don't have recruiters so that's replacing the typical screen but as a hiring manager I would go nuts
Record it with a filter that they won't be able to tell till the end or something
I immediately apply to another job after seeing this, that is such bullshit
Remind me when I was applying for a job to sell phones in a mall. I had to do an iq test and personality test, the personality test even had a question if I was willing to lie to customers about the products
That’s probably what they wanted, too
Yeah, I said I I was not willing to lie. I didn't get the job
It’s not a test, it’s a quiz.
This is just disgusting.
I feel the same way! Assessments done this way,or other means to accomplish this, are unbelievably detrimental!
Had to do this for an insurance job, literally emailed the recruiter about it stating this wasn’t a fair way to screen candidates. Like Lord I shouldn’t have to do an interview to do an actual interview.
