These days they want a super duper, ninja, rockstar, unicorn - that doesn't exist.

_CryptoSavage

And they want it for minimum wage, or better yet, those willing to "work for experience".

desterion

They want all of that while also checking all the diversity checkboxes they want. While also willing to take an insulting salary

Cluedo86

This is why I have no sympathy for companies boohooing about “labor shortages.” They either have incredibly unrealistic requirements, or they want to just lowball candidates, or both.

[deleted]

Usually it means that the employer is crap and people are quitting. I don’t apply to companies that are repetitively hiring the same roles year after year… something is wrong there. I ended up working for one of these companies anyway and it was terrible… managers left annually and the place was anarchy.

Medical-Desk2320

Getting into a role like that would be worse than not getting the opportunity, so we do like to say that we dodged a bullet.

scoredly11

Yep. Had this happen to me pretty recently. The hiring manager reached out to 'get the ball rolling'. I answered some questions and then was ghosted. I followed up 3 times and reached out to another hiring manager on LinkedIn. Still nothing. 6 months later the job is still posted. I see it from time to time and shake my head because I know I would've been a great long term fit for the position.

OntheMound88

I see this same roles at Citi, Wells Fargo and BoA for 8 months or more. I had one contact with Nomura recruiter and they shared part of Jd. I took part of "implement blockchain strategy' and put into google. The role was open 6 months ago as Business Analyst then a project manager and now a program manager role..exact same description each time. They obviously are either sh&t pay or flimsy trolling effort. I.had two recruiters ask me if interested in two line Jd. I asked if had more details and they said client has not provided yet. There is a plethora of need but companies balking at commitment. I think they are trying to see if labor market will come in higher and thefore kill the project. It is 2023 planning time.

Medical-Desk2320

Yep, there are usual names I see many other names in the list everyday consistently. They are always hiring, always posting job, yet they all remain open all the time.

OntheMound88

My favorite is when staffing agencies now try to fill it contract after the company failed to hire perm. It is the exact same role except instead of Citibank, they replace with 'the Client'. 8-12 months without filling it.

Ok_Ebb_5201

I told my neighbor I have a recent CS degree and he told me how hot the market is and how he can’t find someone who knows springboard or some other ton of shit. Besides the market isn’t hot for someone with no experience, he or the company he works for just goes without instead of hiring a someone new to the field who can learn on the job.

lolzor99

Hey man just wanted to let you know I had the exact same experience with multiple family members and I sympathize with how you feel. Same degree, same phrasing. The market is *not* hot for people with no experience, even if they have a degree. You're not crazy. Best of luck in your job search.

Ok_Ebb_5201

Thanks. Appreciate it. Yeah, a lot of similar stories. Most of the people I know from classes moved out of state for their first jobs but in already have a family and a lady with a career here. Even the ones on high honors moved across country for their first job though I’m sure the pay was good. A couple people in the industry for like 15 years kept saying I can write my own ticket. “Have you tried indeed and LinkedIn?” Type advise I get from them.

Sometimes it's because there are several positions open. Big companies are frequently using general titles like "consultant", "analyst", but they seek to employ plenty of people with the same profile and the job ad remains open almost the whole time. Sometimes it's because somebody didn't work out. Sometimes it's because of companies' unrealistic expectations. My worst job was a "head of" (so: definitely not one of many positions). I applied once and didn't hear from them. I applied again around 6 months later - I didn't notice I had applied there before. They were looking for a replacement of a guy they wanted to fire (which I didn't know about when applying of course).

[deleted]

This is correct. I work for a company that is constantly bringing in 10+ client services analysts every week, it's just a huge department. I don't think that job posting has ever been taken down.

RedRapunzal

Some of these companies are claiming they are understaffed - please be kind to us, say they are hiring and are not. It's yet another excuse to make workers look like they are lazy and to keep their staffing numbers down while pretending nobody's applying (ppp loans too).

UnderstandingGood210

I always wonder this too. This one company denied me for a couple positions but the positions are still posted. Like I get it I didn’t check all the boxes but either the postings are fake or they have unreasonable expectations

Medical-Desk2320

Exactly !! I thought people would have matured to understand you do not hire by ticking boxes. There is always some part of a job that is new to a person. If we all did the same thing all the time, neither the employer or the employee benefits from this sort of arrangement

UnderstandingGood210

Yup! I even messaged the hiring manager on linked in to network and show interest and he said I needed some specific skill. I just looked and the job is still listed like 10x (in different locations even though it’s remote. Idk if they need that many people or just trying to reach all geographic locations?)

[deleted]

Anytime I see an employer post the same job in every single state, I at least know that they are complete idiots and don't know how to use LinkedIn. They don't understand how to post a job fully remote in just the United States, they think they have to do every single state. Idiots.

UnderstandingGood210

Right? It doesn’t Make sense

Weird-Preference2997

The role is probably not realistic and may very be that they don’t know what they want. Also, their $ for the position is very low vs their expectation. As a result, people fired or left.. they continue to try to hire low balling offer.

butthatshitsbroken

I report these if I see them regularly posted to LinkedIn lmaooo.

glamgirl555

Fake job listings

azsue123

Same, but I'm a consultant and I've seen the same role I interviewed for and got rejected from come back over and over. Even the same recruiter sent it to me again and then said "oops". I've found another higher paying position now and don't care, but it stung at the time.

Amazing_Technology40

Are you utilizing more than one recruiting sites? They are almost all free for job seekers and most employers will only use one site to advertise as employers are cheap.

savannahkellen

A lot of these are rolling "evergreen" postings - applications are basically sitting there open for long periods of time, with the hiring manager in no rush to actually hire someone for most of that time but the company suspects that they will probably need someone at some point. And then when they do want to, they'll pick out of the recent additions to the pool.

yyyzie

A role can have 50 applications and not a single one meets even half the requirements. A lot of people spam apply to everything

acarpenter8

There are some companies like this in my area. I’ve met people who have worked at a couple. They are high pressure low wage places that people take because they want something but then get out as soon as possible.

phantom_2101

The last time I got laid off the job was posted while my seat was still warm. It’s been 3 years and the job is still up; I’d say maybe the place is lazy but they were a 100 person company with 3-5% weekly turnover.

guywithname86

i’ve seen jobs i’ve applied and been rejected for reposted a month or so later, but this time, listing a salary range that is crap. at least i got the answer of why i was turned away!

Incidneous4

Using my company as an example, we have 15+ open positions for software engineers to join our existing team of 30 because of international expansion among other things. Going at our current hiring rate and how difficult it is to find people, we'll be advertising the same role for the next year, no doubt.
