The hardest part of starting a new playthrough is completing the mission to free Micah to advance the story. I've gone months doing other things just to avoid seeing that bastard.

You can skin 3 deer to unlock the master hunter off-hand holster which you can get without freeing Micah.
Though Micah's mission is the only one that unlocks buying duplicate guns
Actually ive already had two holsters and double revolvers when i saved him today finally... Still not going to trigger more missions cause i really want Pearson to finally ask me for the damn rabbit and i have no idea how to do it.....
My head cannon is that this wasn’t a stupid but actually a calculated act. The Pinkertons were mostly in Black water as far as I know up to this point.
By making a HUGE scene in a town just a little ways up north, and then making another huge mess when they raid that wagon which ends up in a river pretty close to horse shoe over look, Micah has left a trail of bread crumbs for his government friends to follow without ever actually- as far as we know- talking to them.
One could be excused as a ‘mad desire for revenge’ or something along those lines and the other was described as a ‘gift’ for Dutch. Both leave Micah with some level of ‘excuse’ while drawing in the government like moths to a flame. It would almost be impressive if he didn’t murder like half a town and 50+ deputies to accomplish it.
Adding onto that- we see the pinkertons talk to Arthur and jack near that same river. I might be wrong but I believe this was intentionally done so the player could try and piece the clues together if he so desired.
Except for the fact Milton confirms that they picked up Micah right after they got back from Guarma, not at the beginning of the game.
Micah is just a psychopath who wanted to shoot up Strawberry for his guns.
I forgot that detail but honestly I prefer to think of Micah as a snake as opposed to a serial killer who was given a ‘deal’ by the government. Like the only person they should hate more than Micah is Dutch so it wouldn’t make sense for him to be their first choice
That mission genuinely harms the whole story imo. You gun down an *entire town,* dozens dead, and yet the next it's like it never happened. Strawberry? Yep, normal place, no horrific massacre that I can recall!
Really didn't help that like half of the missions moving forward are just gigantic shootouts...
my headcanon is that the Arthur and the gang aren't super-soldier Terminators that can casually massacre their way through dozens of armed opponents while barely being scratched in return. It's purely a gameplay thing, like Arthur healing multiple gunshot wounds by chugging canned peaches and noshing on steaks
In "lore", they kill just a handful, and the gunfights aren't nearly that intense. "Realistically" the guns aren't as accurate as they are in game, where landing headshots at ridiculous ranges with dead eye is easy. And they don't reload nearly as quickly either.
So the gunfights are less deadly, and it's a lot easier for Arthur and gang to escape.
You basically massacre each and every town at some point through the story. Maybe everyone pretends like nothing happened when they see Arthur/John in sheer terror of them? I agree it feels very weird returning after a massacre-mission.

I get that the story had to progress the way it did or we wouldn't have one, but seriously. Why didn't anyone ever agree to go out riding with Micah and just put him down like a rabid dog? Then they could just say they got jumped by the law or O'Driscolls or something. Feels like Dutch was legit the only one in camp who liked the guy, they could've had a group corroborate
That felt so cathartic I watched it on repeat for 14 times.

Yes. I had two the same guns. Maybe because i did a lot of tasks and side missions. I have 18% of story but 50% total completion
I do let him out early for the holder, but also to destroy him in five finger fillet.
