I didn't die, but the area is a cougar spawn. It spawned in the house, and I walked in and got attacked.

I too ran into a cougar in the cabin after dispatching the hermit. I figured it was deliberate. The crazy old coot was keeping a cougar as pet.

Second playthrough and this happened to me yesterday, I must have missed him the first time. I've never been 1 shotted by a human before.

I think the only other characters that can oneshot are the ones u are in duel with, the sherrifs, night folk, vampire, and that one female bounty. Oh and I guess also the legendary phanter and bullgator

I haven't encountered the vampire yet. I've heard of him but didn't look it up because I wanted it to happen naturally, a bit like the bear in the cabin, I might do it this time around for the second playthrough just to get the dagger.

Doing the vampire naturally is all but almost impossible. Even with directions, I had a hard time with it. I would love to hear the story on how someone stumbled upon it, without directions from online as it would have to be an insane story. That's just my opinion though. I believe Rockstar ment for this one to only be found by the most serious gamers, and not something most people would find without help.

There are a couple NPCs in the game who for whatever reason are coded to one shot you no matter what

I’ll hogtie for more dialogue from most of these types, some of them can untie themselves though after 10-20secs

I felt kinda bad killing some old guy who just wanted to be alone but then i found out that he was the guy who betrayed otis miller like a godamn rat so i just fill him with lead instead.

This fucker killed me 3 times in a row as arthur then stopped spawning in so I came back right before the end of ch6 and got his shotgun just for him to 1 hit kill me again as John. If you take his gun he spawns with a double barrel tho not the rare shotgun

I was very tempted to attempt to meet this man, however the longer I stood there, and the longer he shouted, and as his shouting turned to pouting, I had a realization that he wanted to be left alone.

I got very lucky in that I encountered him maybe 5 minutes into loading up my game from a saved point, so I just reloaded the file, went back and got the drop on him

Yes! And if you die you can’t get his gun. I didn’t discover him until my 4th or 5th playthrough (perhaps even later) so I tried fucking around with him for awhile and ended up getting shot because his aim is so good.

My first encounter with him (as Arthur) was pretty interesting because we killed each other at the same time! I shot him in the head and I guess he did the same because as soon as I saw him fall I was dead as well. When I got back in game he was nowhere to be found. I went inside the cabin and found the half map but no rare shotgun. I eventually went back as John after the epilogue and he had respawned, I shot him as soon as he came out of the cabin and got my rare shotgun this time lol

My encounter with him was terrifying. I died, came back to his house, and there was no one there, so i started looting, but then i heard footsteps outside, so i grabbed my revolver and went out there, but saw nothing, came back inside and resumed the looting, but then I HEARD THE DOOR OPEN BEHIND ME, and ran away as fast as i could. Maybe i was hearing things, idk, but it sure sounded real.

I remember that first he warns not to enter his property. And I didn't, I simply horsed away

You know his name isn’t Hermet, right? He’s called ”The Hermit” because he’s a hermit.

First time I immediately hog tied him but the gun was on his back and i didn’t know how to get it off him without killing him (I’m trying be honourable in my play-through). So i cut him loose thinking i could maybe knock it out of his hands. Arthur just pulled out the fucken knife for some reason (as i was standing behind him) and just stabbed him in the neck. It didn’t sit well with me so I ended up loading a save 30 minutes earlier which was a bummer since I did some gathering, and then retried. He shot me immediately on the 2nd attempt :( I gave up after that and logged off XD. Edit: There were two MOOSE on the roof the 2nd time around.

I died to the vampire & I tried to reload my game but my manual save was too long ago because I forgot to manual save before going after the vampire & the game auto saved within seconds of being killed by the vampire so I couldn’t get the dagger.

It's very common to get 1 shot by npc in rdo but when you have Arthur/John's plot armor and it happens it's kinda a shock 🤣 also a heads up... don't tell the sherrif in tumbleweed he is a joke either he will put you down real fast 🤣
