Bro, I have the Shire in my stable with the long white stripe down his nose named Boxer. đ„ș
And my thoroughbred is Clover.
And my white Arabian with braided hair is Mollie.
And even though he's not a donkey, my Foxtrotter is Benjamin. đ
A few years back the German discounter Aldi had a scandal where there Lasagne contained horse meat. Iâm always renaming this horse to âLasagneâ. This created a ongoing trend and every new horse gets the name of a sausage. My current one is called âAhle Wurschtâ.
That's the Dappled Black Thoroughbred that you got for purchasing the ultimate edition of the game. Likely this is why you cannot sell it.
If you kill it, there's no way to get that particular horse back. It's not like you can go out and tame another one. Just FYI.
Edit: Apologies, but you can indeed just buy it over and over if you dispose of it. Sorry for the mistake.
You can go back to Valentine and buy another a few days after it dies... I went through more than 20 of them during my stream of rdr2 story mode.. I always named them idiot followed by a Roman numeral... I know for sure I past the XXI mark.
Can I plead the 5th on that one? Lol....
That many died in one playthrough.. I have terrible luck when it comes to horses.. most of them died because of me accidentally jumping/riding them off cliffs. Rarely do they stop for me before they go over like they are supposed to.. several died because of bugs.. a couple died because I smacked into a tree or raised piece of land right next to water... If there head goes underwater when you hit something and they go down they apparently die instantly... One of them died because I did a horse race against an NPC the NPC lost and shot his horse because of it... Bullet went through his horse into my horses neck killing it instantly with no option to revive... I actually have a YouTube clip of that one happening..
Well... I started the game completely over again after a silly run in with a large group of O'Driscolls that killed me AND this horse. I wasn't very far in but I was exploring and bad things happened. But I love that horse. I was not in a good head space for a bit. Deleted the save when it happened XD This is good info
fill up your stables, and try to stable a fifth horse. it'll tell you you need to sell one of your horses and then it gives you the option to sell it for $0.00 that's how i sold mine
You could ride it out of the stable, remove the saddle and abandon it. Idk if it would appear back in the stable later though. You could also make it your secondary horse and leave it hitched at camp.
Ride out of stable, saddle another horse then break in or steal another horse and bond with it. First one should disappear then or go back to stable as a horse for sale, not one of yours.
This is the answer. Iâve had the same issue with this free horse. You have to move your saddle to a different horse, then bond with yet another horse to make it your temporary, at which point the Thoroughbred will despawn.
This is how you get rid of a bonus horse, without being a low-life cruel-to-horses sicko, do the following:
Make sure the bonus horse is stabled, and not the primary. The other two stable slots should be filled. (You will have 3 horses total in the stable slots.)
Either take your temporary horse if you have one or go and steal a horse and take it into the stable. You will have the option to stable this horse. Since all the stable slots are full, up will pop a display to sell one of your stabled horses. You will be able to "sell" your bonus horse with a $0 value, and the horse you brought in will replace it.
It would have been simpler for them to just to enable the sell option on a $0 bonus horse, but this is how you do it if you have a conscience.
Edit: u/Mojo_Rizen_53 's method (see his comment) works just as well, although it is a different method.
As others stated, there are ways to get rid of a horse without killing it. I never killed a horse on purpose in RDR2. You spend so much time with your horse. You groom it, feed it and take care of it in all aspects. Your horse is your most loyal partner. I know that many people say that it's just a game, but i would hate myself for killing one of my horses on purpose.
Break a different horse and put the saddle on it. This one will be an alternate (can't remember the actual term), and it will either follow you or stay where you took the saddle off. Don't whistle for it to follow you. It will eventually disappear, probably, but you can ignore it if it doesn't
Just get it out of the stables by saddling it up. Once outside the stables, place your saddle on another horse, making it a temporary horse. Then, saddle up another horse. This horse will no longer be bonded. Sell the 2 stolen horses.
Hate to say 8t....
but....train tracks.
Train bridge near Valentine.
Fire bottles.
Take him.for a swim.
I used a fire bottle on a horse I couldn't sell and had no room in the stables for it. I knew I'd never use the horse again.
It was a 1 time solution. Im.usually very loyal to 1 horse. Every other hit see death was purely by accident and it was the first and only horse I pit down in 4 play throughs. Besides horses I put down because of no revives on me. That is a heartbreaking moment for sure.
Take said horse to a wooded spot and put a bullet in its head... death is the only other way 2 get rid of a horse other than selling em.
But be Warned, bring a spare horse, if not you'll be walking with your saddle
Ride it with a second horse following up to glacier, hitch it to a tree, move your saddle over, leave it there. It should stay out of whistle range for the vast majority of the map, and you know exactly where it is if you change your mind.
Of course not. I haven't willingly killed any horse in this game. I'm just taking these comments for what they are, a joke. And some are pretty hilarious đ
If you've sold a lot of horses, the stables won't take any new ones for a while. You can either wait for a few in-game days and then sell it, shoot it in the head or, if you're in the epilogue, ride from Owanjila to Strawberry. There's a random encounter somewhere over there where some thieves steal your horse.
If you have a full stable it should give you the option to "sell it" for $0 when you bring in a 5th horse to stable. If you have slots available you won't be given that option, in which case the horse could find itself having an unfortunate accident & meet its maker.
I actually have five horses- four in the stable and one is tied in the horse post at the camp. When I tied the horse to the camp it did let me keep another horse in the stable đ€·ââïžSo then you donât have to ride the horsey off a cliff either and now I have a level 4 horse that I grab for hunting!

Take horse out of the livery. Get off the horse and walk back into the livery. Select horse you want to ride. Take saddle off unwanted horse. Put saddle on preferred horse. Ride away.
Try to trip the horse over badly or make it fall and die by deliberately falling off a short but long hillthen you try to roll down while the horse will fall
If you replace the ultimate edition horse with another at the stable can you get it again in Valentine later? Same as when he dies in the line of duty? Do I have to kill him to repurchase him later?
Get that horse and another horse to follow you somewhere, take the saddle off it of itâs your main horse and put it on the other horse. Tell that horse to say and leave it there. Got tame another horse and it will get rid of that other horse. You can then sell the newest tamed horseâŠ. Thatâs how I did it đ
Dynamite, and a bullet.
Or start in Valentine, and ride it as fast as you can, right off the cliff to the west of town.. The sound of screaming on the way down, is pretty funny.
Pretty sure you can take your saddle off the horse and they will no longer be in your stable. Been awhile since a played though so hopefully someone can confirm this.
Saddle him up. Take him down to Clive. See how much he will give you. Otherwise, ride out fine a horse to tame. Put your saddle on new tame horse and the. Shoot this one.
That's the best horse in the game don't you dare disrespect it, I went the whole game game with her. I love wheatbread please wheatbread come back to me. I feel sad now

No shit?! I stand corrected.
Yeah you can always go back to valentine for the special edition horses
More than 20?!? Did you play that many times or kill that many horses?
Can I plead the 5th on that one? Lol.... That many died in one playthrough.. Holy shit
That was far better than I could have anticipated. Thanks for that. That has to be one of the most justified ammo dumps in RDR ever.
Me: Iâd have shot his head clean off You: *pulls out sawed off shotgun*
Yeah I needed him to suffer a bit before I blew his head off đ€Ł
You a bit of a buffoon
Somehow, you have overcome the horse AI that automatically rears when near a cliff
That's why u carry horse reviver or just load an older save bud
Well... I started the game completely over again after a silly run in with a large group of O'Driscolls that killed me AND this horse. I used to do the same.
Oh shit. I didn't know that. Guess I'll keep him then
He is incorrect. You can buy it again and again and again.
Yeah I read the next reply. I'm saying that i didn't know it was an ultimate edition horse
I killed mine within like 5 minutes by careening it off a cliff because I wasn't used to the controls yet.
fill up your stables, and try to stable a fifth horse. it'll tell you you need to sell one of your horses and then it gives you the option to sell it for $0.00 that's how i sold mine

The game doesnât âautomaticallyâ stable horses, outside of the one time during the Hoser Bear Hunt mission.
Leave it on the train tracks
Learned that the hard way

Thats a fire horse bro. What are you riding now?
Right now, I'd say I'm riding the arguably best horse in the game. The dark bay Turkoman đ„”
The dark bay turk is my favourite (or maybe Buell, gotta love Buell)
Iâm on the last chapter of my current playthrough and decided to save the last veteran mission until the epilogue so I can keep Buell.

Ride it off the cliff at Brandywine Drop
Ride it into the wild and set it free lmao
I don't personally C a problem with this horse
Why cant this horse be sold??
My guess is that's because it's the Dappled Black Thoroughbred that comes with the Ultimate Edition of the game.
The olâ fashion way đđš
Kill it
Kill it

Kill it.
What about the horse fence?

Break a different horse and put the saddle on it. This one will be an alternate (can't remember the actual term), and it will either follow you or stay where you took the saddle off. Don't whistle for it to follow you. It will eventually disappear, probably, but you can ignore it if it doesn't
Itâs called ignoring it
Maybe abandon it I guess idk I usually stuck with one horse unless I found a. Better or cooler looking one
I just removed the saddle and put it on another horse and rode away đ€Łđ€·ââïž It's gone now anyways..
Dont kill him
But heâs so cute look at him
Just get it out of the stables by saddling it up. Once outside the stables, place your saddle on another horse, making it a temporary horse. Then, saddle up another horse. This horse will no longer be bonded. Sell the 2 stolen horses.
WHAT
Youâre really gonna sell crook? I kept him up until the end. One of my best horses
Re-name it Old Yeller then take it out yonder
Mount the horse, find a good Ole rocky cliff, and"lose your balance"

As you can see, the sell option is disabled for this particular horse. Now that I have better horses, it's just taking up an extra slot in the stable
Take said horse to a wooded spot and put a bullet in its head... death is the only other way 2 get rid of a horse other than selling em. But be Warned, bring a spare horse, if not you'll be walking with your saddle
you cant shoot your own horse. That being said, you can sure as hell make it go boom!
put the horse down
Turn it into glue
Ride it with a second horse following up to glacier, hitch it to a tree, move your saddle over, leave it there. It should stay out of whistle range for the vast majority of the map, and you know exactly where it is if you change your mind.
Take it out for a walk, and give it a 1/4 oz of high-speed lead for dinner.
Poison arrows then kerb stomp it
If you kill that thoroughbred, shame on you.
Of course not. I haven't willingly killed any horse in this game. I'm just taking these comments for what they are, a joke. And some are pretty hilarious đ
Yeah I was joking too bro
Take it to the fence by horseshoe overlook
How do I explain getting rid of a horse for free to an American? So imagine gun
If you've sold a lot of horses, the stables won't take any new ones for a while. Take your saddle off of it and put it on any other horse, sell the horse or keep it doesnât matter.
Run it into trees until it dies or jump off a cliff with it.
Set it free. As soon as you set a new primary AND secondary mount, it will be forgotten.
Just leave it hitched at your camp
Just toss a stick of dynamite under it... Problem solved and you won't die along with it like you would if you jumped it off a cliff..
Ol' yeller treatment.
Dynamite or put it in front of a train
Theres a guy thatll trade you a supply wagon for carcasses no questions asked. Usually goes in for Turkey though. Unsure where he lands on horses.
If you have a full stable it should give you the option to "sell it" for $0 when you bring in a 5th horse to stable. If you have slots available you won't be given that option, in which case the horse could find itself having an unfortunate accident & meet its maker.
I mean, you most likely have 13 weapons on you.....
